Where to begin… about five years ago my husband got a call from a friend to see if he could help some “Doctor lady” to help tie rebar for some cement work on a National Geographic Expedition. We are even more involved with the second documentary; my husband continuing with the ropework, building/carpentry, tractoring, and he has even been pulled in to help with the kite flying.

We went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art last year with Dr. Clemmons to do some recon work. Although there are other riggers and knot/rope people on the crew, my husband and I are the only Rockclimbers, …we came across this picture and commented to Maureen that it looks like a man wearing a rockclimber’s harness and belaying something with his ropes (as in, maybe a kite/ pulley system connected to move stones) The team is still studying this and they are trying to get another trip scheduled to go back to the Met as well as to the museum in London. Dr. Clemmons has been to Egypt once already, and would love to make a return trip, but it has been postponed at this time.

The Singing Butler was indeed inspired by Leven Beach and it's been filmed a few times!! Right in front of ma hoose too!!!:)
Vettriano was mesmorised by the dancing culture of the 50's and 60's, when people would get dressed up in their finery and off they would go!! Interestingly, it didn't matter if you were a miner or a doctor, people made the effort to look their best!!:)

Anna, poor wee KK!! I remember being forced to do country dancing at primary...hated it, but the problem was you had to do it!! Boys and girls were lined up opposite each other and it was a free for all choosing a partner!! If you weren't quick enough you might be left with the class's smelliest wee olassie!!!!:(
HOW OUTRAGEOUS WAS THAT!!!!!! Everytime, some poor wee laddie or lassie were humiliated at the end of it!!! When I think back, I can't believe the antics and stupidity of some of the teachers - we're talking 8,9 and 10 year olds being totally humiliated!!!

AJ... I know exactly what you mean about picking partners etc. I used to hate it when lazy teachers used to get kids to pick teams at games and sports. All the kids are really worried that they'll be picked last and the popular ones in the gang are always first. Then, the poor geeky kid, the smelly one, the fat one or the one with glasses is usually standing about at the end... and the 'team pickers' say reluctantly 'Oh, I suppose we'll have Fat Johnnie' or whatever.
I think teachers that do it are idle and into humiliating kids. Hopefully, it doesn't happen as often now :)

I've just got back from the Maypole dancing .. they had to have it in doors because it was raining. KK managed to look as glum as I've ever seen him.... they got the girls to do all the hard, skippy parts!! Didn't trust the boys not to mess about and mess it up.... :D :D

The Headteacher of KK's school won't allow the parents to take photos or use video cameras at events like this. Apparently, that is in line with Cambs education authority ruling.... they have been extremely twitchy since the Soham murders.. which isn't very far from here.
I find it annoying that we can't take photos, however, I think those are the times we live in, unfortunately.

Weather here is a bit more changeable today with some showers and some bright bits although it's a bit chilly. It was an awful weekend for craft fairs. Thankfully I had a weekend off but have heard that most were abysmal. The sneaky organisers set up the many of the shows knowing that they were flooding, then they opened for an hour or two before cancelling the show and didn't have to pay the stall holders any money back because they'd opened.
Yes, we all got dressed up yesterday for Afternoon Tea as it stated smart dress code and then found ourselves in the minority as most people were wearing jeans. Same with the Dorchester last year. I think it's the arrogance of those people who have sufficient money to stay in such places.

We went to Hanbury Manor Hotel, Anna. The Ritz has to be booked so far in advance and I didn't fancy negotiating London on a Bank Holiday. Fortnum & Mason would be lovely, I bought their Christmas Crackers the year before last, at £40 for 6 it was very swish but not to be pulled frivolously. Jokes were still rubbish though. :D
£40 for 6 crackers... Peajay... very extravagant :D
Harrods have some very, expensive ones ... into the £1000s plus... but they do contain diamond necklaces and things like that .. For those who have everything I suppose!!
A friend of mine tried to book afternoon tea at the Ritz but the waiting list was too long, so they booked somewhere else .. one of the ones near Buck House and then had cocktails later on at the Ritz. I think it all cost a bomb .. but they had a good time and really enjoyed themselves. It was their 50th wedding anniversary, so had to be a bit special :))
AJ.. I hope you're not revealing too many details about us to Canky ... we'd want a bit of quid pro quo from her if you are :))

Well, the Doctor Who thing was good... the kids enjoyed themselves and there was minimal squabbling and no tears!!! From mothers or kids!! :D
No sign of Cap'n Jack or David Tennant :( Still, KK did get the chance to pop inside the Tardis and pretend to be Doctor Who with his faithful Rose Tyler (no way was she going to be Martha!!! ) They also got dressed up as Cybermen and had their pics taken with a couple of Daleks!
Free tickets from the Hive? No Mr A hasn't mentioned anything like that... he pops in there occasionally on a Friday for coffee and homemade cakes ....but no tickets so far!! :D

KK thought it was great too... and asked lots of questions about WW1 ... so if that was the intention of the producers to get kids interested in our history.... then it worked on mine :))
Its been really warm today.. so we've been chilling out in the garden ... drinking Pimms!! (really) and some nice cold white wine.. been a lovely day. :)
KK has been having fun on his water slide ... and making a mess of the grass into the bargain..but a couple of days rest will sort the grass out and he's had a whale of a time :))

She'll be great probably.... little girls tend to have a 'maternal' steak even at that age :)) My sister was only 18 months older than me ... but she used to 'mother' me when I was a baby.... (so, I'm told anyway!!). It was later on that we used to fight .... mainly as teenagers, especially when we 'borrowed' one another's clothes and on one memorable occasion a boyfriend!!! That was a heck of a punch-up!! But, still we get on fine now! :D
Just think of all the late night/early morning blogging you'll be able to do when Baby AJ keeps you awake at 2am etc etc!! ...

The only things I craved were fresh orange juice and ice lollies. I used to buy a couple of packs of 24 ice lollies from Tescos and just munch my way thro' the lot!! :D It was a hot summer that year tho'!!! :))

20-30 years ago, these thoughts would hardly enter a parent's head....but maybe they should have!!!:( I'm not sure what to make of it all....is it just that everything now gets reported or is society just reaching new lows every year?
We have taken every precaution we can to make Mish mash's home enviroment a safe as possible - 6ft high fencing with all the gates bolted at the back of the house, security lights, police recommended front and back doors, all windows lockable and prominent and expensive alarm system!! And I still can't relax when she's in the back garden!!:(
I know its really hard... when I think of how we used to play out when we were kids ... I mean there were perverts around then.. but are things worse now?
The media does highlight and exploit the situation tho' and pander to parent's fears. The McCann story is a big example of that. I feel sorry for them and its awful what might have happened to that little girl ... but I feel they were also negligent and irresponsible for leaving those 3 toddlers on their own. I think the media has deliberately scared a lot of people by lurid headlines about 'Sleeping Child taken from Bed' ... which is probably true...but when the case is looked at closely ...she would never have been taken if the parents hadn't made it so easy for the abductor.
Mind you, I don't understand how they can go round Europe and leave the other 2 kids behind after losing one ... strange people.
So, we all start mollycoddling our own kids more.. because we fall into the 'what if' trap.

As you know, I agree wholeheartedly with you! The McCanns are lucky with the support they've been given from the media. Although last week, a reporter in Berlin asked them outright, if they had anything to do with the abduction!!!:( You feel they're going to start recieving serious criticism before long!

That reporter did ask what quite a lot of people have been thinking. Their story doesn't seem to quite add up... but its probably because we've not been told the whole story.
Their behaviour does seem odd tho' ... I mean that comment about taking time out now to grieve!! Must lead very compartmentalised lives.
I think there is probably a lot more to come out yet.
