Warm days, cool nights, fragrant wildflowers of incredible colour!! This photo is of an area just northwest of here.

g'nite AJ and sweet dreams!!
Well, the Bulgarian vino was a bit potent....fairly loosens the tongue!!:)
G'morning everyone - sunny day in Escosse and the tempreature is already upto 6C!!!!
Joanna and AJ made the paper edition of the Scotsman with our comments on HRH Harry - joanna's "he could have been back by now" and AJ's press frenzy comment!!!:D
Some of my other comments would have been better!!:(
Oh mi Gawd.... fame at last... AJ ... I'm so excited!!! :D
Yippee.. wait till I tell Mr A .... that I'm in print ... even tho' I won't see it :(
Wonder if any of the rellys take the Scotsman!!!
I've had two letters printed in the Times before, but that was a while ago!! :D
What a team!! :D
As you say tho' I think I've written better posts than that one!! Still ... from little acorns etc, etc
Am I going OTT here? :D :D
Did they want a biography or byline of us btw? I can supply one ... !!! :D
From that reaction, I sense you're a screamer in the bedroom dept!!!;D
Good Morning!
I've heard Bulgarian wine is good, AJ...and it obviously has carried over to the morning's comments!!! ;)
Congrats on making the paper, you two!!
Have to go to work and suffer no blogging today!! :((
Hi Melanie,
Have a great day!! I think Anna's having one...she's probably away to the newsagent on the off chance!!:)))
bye!!! have a great day all!!!
AJ.. it did cross my mind to pop up to the papershop...... I don't know whether they'd have it..... altho' my mum has the Sunday Post from them... so..... maybe..?
Mr A thinks its hilarious.... :D
Hi Melanie...... isn't this fun?
Who'd have thought it.... when we started out all those months ago .... that 2 of us would become famous!! :D
I'll make sure I give you and Peajay a mention. :D
You can have a bit of the limelight as well!! :D
Anna,
I could fax a copy of the page ...if you like!!!
If I had a fax number you could....I don't know what Mr A's one at work is ... ?
I'll check....
Is this your way of finding out my real identity for your over 60 insurgents group? Sneaky.... ? :D
That main board... is high already ... over 800 posts!!
Exciting stuff!!
How many people did they poll? I couldn't see the number in that report.
The good thing is that it said that more people are voting so at least people are getting out there and having a say. :)
I think Labour are going to get stiffed in the English council elections..... which is probably a forecast of what will happen in the General Election. At least thats what happened before the '97 election when the Tories got the boot.
At the last election I never really made my mind up till I was in the booth and that was the first time I saw the names of the Lab candidate and the Lib/Dem one.. so I thought you couldn't be bothered to get out there and canvass so I'm not wasting my time voting for you.
Mind you, Malcolm Moss has held this seat for ages... so he'd take a bit of shifting. Especially as one of the first things you see when you come into town is the Conservative Club.
I'm not a member tho' before you ask!! :D
Anna,
Am I correct in thinking you live in the Tory heartland? I think you should spoil your paper!!:D
It's fairly whipping up now, although RAF Teuchtars probably isn't aware there's an election taking place!!:D
I'm kicking ass on the Black Watch story....
I think most of the seats round here are Tory.. now...
RAF Leuchars is full of 'the English' tho' isn't it?
Aye, 'the English' canny be arsed with the Scottish stuff - most of them have postal votes for down south, so it's perfectly understandable!!:))
I've got a copy of the paper, I could send it to your local butcher shop or something like that!! Maybe the Vicar's wife!!:D
I know you stay in Whittlesea on the Sand (sumthin like that!), So is it a plan!!??
Thanks for the support against the New Zealander...... AJ:)
I think the Black Watch are one of the finest of the regiments and I think its a hell of a shame what has been done, but .... I think the RAF has been treated like sh*t as well.
Hi Anna,
Tartan tinted glasses are a problem....guilty myself sometimes....but not on those subjects!!!
You handled yourself very well, I could sense a lot of emotion in what you were writing:)
Anyway, I'm here to serve:))
What happened with the deleted post....did you have a wee pop at me about my previous post???
No,..... I was just waffling (not unusual I know) but, decided to delete it :D
If I'd been having a pop at you ... I'd have let it stand :) I normally do :D
I probably do let my emotions run away with me over WW1... but ever since I got my Great-Grandads service papers and so how the poor soul was treated.... and also my imagination fills in a lot of the rest... I get defensive about him.
He never won any big medals like most of them but what he and they did was beyond bravery.
I may be unfair for blaming Haig ... he acted according to his time.... but if ever there was a high tide of the class system it was then and he was the epitome of the British upper class of the time.
I wonder if he felt regret or ever blamed his tactics. Two of his Generals committed suicide after the 1st day of the Somme .... but he carried on using the same tactics throughout WW1...
Cast your vote... yet AJ.... let me guess.. judging by your stance so far...... I'd say you voted Labour!!:D :D :D :D:D :D :D
As you would say...
Aye, right!! :D
Hi Anna,
Secret fax sent to Syd.....the strawberries are warm in the winter!!
Jist like playin' spies!!:D
Not voted yet...we will head up at tea time...do a couple of interviews, photoshoots and get the champers on chill!!!!
Have you voted, honey? A celebration with the Vicar's wife later....tea and scones of course, and finish up with a game of croquet on the lawn. Maybe a rendition of 'Jerusalem' at the piano before dinner and bible reading in the parlour after the cheese and biscuits!!:D
Back to auld Haig....it's a tough one....he did have lots of remorse and he is credited with bringing the war to a swift end, once the counter offensive created the breakthrough!! However, for me, his name will always be tarnished with the events of 1916!!!!If it wasn't him, it would've been someone else tho'!!:(
Yes he got the front sheet ..... but only the top bit of the Scotsman :(
Don't think it came out very well...
Still, thanks for sending it!!
Actually, the number was the post I deleted it.... just in case anyone else saw it (not Melanie or Peajay.. but some stranger), and innundated them with strange faxes....!! :D
They're not voting here today... no council elections in this area ...
Haig, well I think there are polar opposites in opinion about him. Some historians say he helped to form the modern British Army and that Lloyd George is to blame for interfering too much with the battle plans.
Others that Haig was an old fashioned soldier who put too much faith in the cavalry, an intractable, self opinionated man who refused to admit his tactics were wrong and listen to officers on the ground, even when the losses were proving catastrophic...he carried on with the same sort of 'battle plan' throughout the Somme, then at Arras and at 3rd Ypres (Passchendale).... I personally think he was wrong and did squander the lives of many of the soldiers.
Maybe, it was remorse in his old age... but at least he did a lot for the veterans through the formation of the British Legion and the remembrance.
Would there have been a need tho' for so many poppies if he had changed tactics..... ..The jury is still out.
Anna,
I sent it on more time, I lightened the copy. The trouble is, the item is shaded!!:(
Agree with you about Haig, the foundation he set up could have been avoided!! How many times do you need to try the same tactic!!!!
Ah well ... thanks for trying... AJ.. if it doesn't go thro' OK this time... you could try carrier pigeon!! :D
Champagne on ice.. you're confident... do you think the polls are right or will there be a last minute swing to Labour.... because people get cold feet ? :(
I bet the Lib Dems will get a few more votes as well...
Mind you I can't stand fence sitters!!
It's a bit tense today......you can never tell what the masses will do!! The forums don't represent public opinion and the opinion polls are dodgy too. If they did, I would be relaxed, but I'm not!!
I've said it before, if the SNP can't make serious inroads on Labour this time, it's time to seriously evaluate the party and it's make up!!
For me, even a narrow defeat would be aceptable, as it would still show progress!! I doubt if others would share that view!!:(
Did MrA get the second fax?
Don't know if he got the fax... I'll give him a tinkle later!!
I posted a few comments on the Salmond Divine Rule board yesterday... mainly against an English poster who was making an arse of herself ( and the rest of us!!)
Anyway, someone called me an English rose like his cousins :))
So, I replied that I had Scottish cousins but I wouldn't call them thistles altho' the can get a bit prickly when pushed. The Scotsman has moderated prickly to p****ly.... strange, I didn't think prickly in the context of a thistle (which they are) was rude!! Strange sort of censorship. Wonder what they'd make of pricking or cockerel for instance?
Second attempt didn't work .... never mind ...
He says its too dark.... thanks for trying.... I'll put Plan B into operation.... alert my mum who's in Scotland at present ... she'll get a copy of it.
I think one of the uncles reads it!! :))
That is strange censorship!!!!
Well if you can't get a copy, I've got the cutting here, I could send it to the butchers shop!!!
Maybe, they've got an automatic scan thing that picks up 'rude' words... and doesn't realise that its part of another word!!
Computer says NO!! :D
Anna,
I like this:
http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/news-headlines/queen-knocks-out-admirers-with-new-portrait-20070502110/
Very good AJ ........... very funny :)
I'll have to keep an eye on the Daily Mash!! :D
You posted anywhere on the Scotsman today?
Just the political boards Anna.
I was, however, a wee bit cheeky with Eve. She was telling me how "exicted" she was and what the day meant to her. I replied by saying "I couldn't have put it better myself"!!!:))
Luckily nobody picked up on it!!:D
Hi all how's it going?
I smiled at Eve's contribution.... the bit about being so outraged and indignant at being handed a Labour party leaflet at the polling station was funny.
Does she think that's illegal? The only thing they're not allowed to do is follow you into the booth and guide your hand.... and they would if they could!!!:D
She cracks me up..... :D
I've grown to really enjoy Eve's posts!!!:))
Hi Peajay,
The election is at fever pitch...at least on the Scotsman it is!!:)))
What have you been up to? Redecorating your blog?
Anyway, the 1000 is looming and there's a homosexual chappie trying to chat me up!!:D
You do get all the luck don't you AJ? :D
Yeah...lucky old me!!:D And....how come all poofs are called Duncan!!??
Why is Melanie's weather pixie wearing a fur coat, hat and boots..... in California?
Is it cold there Melanie?
Hi Peajay :)
AJ.... Have you noticed how gay men don't usually shorten their names:
Its Duncan not Dunc
Jeremy not Jerry
Stephen not Steve
Andrew not Andy
Philip not Phil
Robert not Bob, Rob
I wonder why that is.... or am I stereotyping a bit here... its just an observation tho' :)
Sebastian, Cecil and Timothy are just some of the favourites!!
The 1000 surpassed all before, how funny was that.....or is it jist me?!!!:D
I was going to go for the 1000 .. it was at 988 when I just flicked on to here for a sec.... when I went back it was at 1008!!! :D
Amazing
Its the most zoomiest (is that a word?) board I've seen for a while.... since the bird one in fact!! :D
Good morning! It's windy cold here at the moment!
Will have a look at what you've been up to...
other than the politics boards :)
posting anywhere??!!
Morning Melanie,
Sleep well? We have had fun on the 1000, but I'm not posting anywhere else at the mo!!!
Wotch a got lined up today? Wrestling a steer to the ground or just sitting on the porch yersel and knitting a quilt?
AJ, yer too funny!!
Well, as I've forgotten how to knit and it's too cold fer outside sittin and quiltin...maybe I'll work up a sweat and wrestle a Mastiff...ain't got a steer, but the Mastiff weighs more than me, so does that count?!! ;))
Hi Melanie..... AJ has been trying to bribe JG to vote SNP by tempting her with French guys!! :D
I said she should see the goods first!!
AJ... just been reading the board.... and someone on there is saying they don't think Alex S will win Gordon...
What happens if the SNP get in but he doesn't get a seat?
Is there an understudy waiting in the wings...
I thought his seat would have been a fore-gone conclusion !
Is this because he's never had a Hollyrood seat before?
I didn't realise that!! ... the things you learn.... I know tons more about politics now than I used to.
Hasn't a Mastiff got big teeth....!!:D
Where did Peajay go? Well I suppose someone has got to be productive!!:D
I just noticed the latest on AJ's blog...who's deleted post is that?
Am off to look at some comments....I can feel the tense-ness in the air!!!
Anna,
He's in a major Labour area, but he will or should get to Holyrood through the regional voting, which is proportional representation!! Quite a complicated affair!! You can also vote for as many councillors as you like, but you have to put them in order of preference!!
No wonder it takes so long to count!!:D
Melanie,
Anna was drunk and told me she loved me!!;)
hmmmm, I would have liked to seen the verbs and adjectives used!!!!
No wonder the voters get confused!! I thought the seat he was contesting had a Lib/Dem incumbent Nora... something or other!!
Melanie... I gave AJ ... Mr A's fax number to send me the Scotsman bit with 'us' being famous in it!! Then I deleted the fax number didn't want any passersby to see it ... and start sending him loony faxes...!!
Its worrying enough knowing that AJ's got it!! :D But I know where he works now!!! :D
Anna/Peajay, I thought perhaps you might have been in your cups and further proceeded on to discussing naughty subjects and then got cold feet!! ;)
Anna,
I think you're right, it's a Libdem seat!! He probably won't win it, but get in via the 'back door'!!! Good cliche that!!!:))
Melanie,
What's "cups"?
Got to go now see ya...am aff the morn, but will be in touch!!:D
cups and in cups of gin or other alcoholic beverage!!!
bye AJ!!! keep us posted of the goings on, or me, at least....we haven't had much coverage in the news of Scotland with this...
Well, its only a local election Melanie .... so you probably wouldn't :)
There's loads of English voters going to the polls as well to vote on the councils ...... looks like Labour will get a kicking then.
If the Tory's get more than 40% of the vote.... its an omen for the General Election according the Times.
Right AJ.. i've had a squint at the political page of the Times and a man on there says that if Alex fails in Gordon he could get 2nd thingy.... but not if SNP win Dundee and Aberdeen.... because then they get less points or something!!
Its confusing isn't it?
What I mean by that is that it is the same as say, California voting their state governor.... we probably wouldn't get any info about that .... except when its Arnie of course.
No idea who's in charge of the other states. :)
Load of people in England won't know anything about it the Scottish elections either... if its not happening under their nose they're not bothered.
I only know about it because of the Scotsman really
Thanks Anna, I was wondering about that! makes sense now. I'm still trying to sort out who's who as far as conserv/liber...trying to apply to the adjectives to our groups : Democrats/Republicans/Independents etc....although I admit to not trying too hard as I really can't stand wading into politics all that much
I would say that for the Unionist parties : Conservative is right of centre, Labour is left of centre and Liberal/Democrat is middle (fence sitters in my opinion!!).
SNP ... is considered to be left of centre with an evenual policy of asking the Scots if they want to leave Westminster government. We don't have the SNP in England... there is a party called the BNP (British National Party) but some of their policies are frankly ... fascist.
Alex Salmond has a seat in Banff/Buchan as a Westminster MP but is fighting for a seat as First Minister of Scotland at the devolved Scottish Parliament at Hollyrood.... which is a Member of Scottish Paliament (MSP) role.
I know its confusing ... but at the end of the day they're all politicians and out for what they get...... :(
oh, where have I heard That before!!! I think all politicians should have to hold down real jobs first, and not lawyering, or acting either!! :)
I'm currently reading the Black Watch article...
I was trying to be productive but it's been a bit knocked of late by bad back and new pc. Both of which are proving a mission.
Hi Peajay,
I've got such an affliction of 'lack of motivation' at the moment!! I was hoping for some fun blogging but if it's not political it's all rather negative!(on the scotsm)
I may have to resort to youtube surfing for funnies to share with you all, or at least look for another photo for our next 'chat' room!! :)
So, a new pc??!!!!
Well, it has been interesting watching and reading as this has all been unfolding!!! Can't wait to hear your comments!
AJ, what time did you head to bed? I think I saw you up around 0230??? Must be exciting! :)
so, now the flak for all the 'bad' ballots, and late due to weather ballots 'sagas' unfold!!! :))
Good results for the Tories... in England.... they've taken over 40% of the councils vote from Labour... so ... it could be a good omen for the General Election..
Not sure what's happening in Scotland apart from Salmond got his Gordon seat and there's been some skullduggery going on with the ballot papers....... over to you AJ fae Fife :DD
Anna, your up with the sun...did the rooster wake you???!!!
Well, if I was wearing what my weather pixie has on right now, I would be cold!!! She definitely does not account for the wind chill!!
nite all, see you in my morn!
Night Melanie.... :)
I see you've changed the weather pixie for the sexy one ;)
She doesn't believe in putting too much on!! :D
Good Morning!
I've posted on the chimps, bad lyrics and Irish teen. I saw you on one of the politics blogs, Anna.
Well, fun Friday for you all, I hope?!
Yes Melanie new pc. The previous one died a sad slow death which manifested itself in the gradual cessation of each drive one by one. First the dvd player disappeared completely, followed by the floppy drive which started to chew floppy's before spitting them out with venom. Last month sadly, the cd drive followed its friends and is now no more. So 4 weeks ago a new shiny one was purchased which sat on the floor until last week when I finally gathered enough time (aided by being signed off work by the gp) to set it up. These things are not as easy as they look and plug-n-play is an oxymoron! :)
Hi Peajay,
computers, are like men I think...they seem like they'd be easy to manage, but then it's oh no, what's the instruction manual say about that!!!...I wish it could be just 'plug in and play'!! ;D
...I think I'll add that to your blog, so the SgtMjr sees it as well!! :))
Hi all,
AJ is a very happy man!!!!
So, AJ, give me the low down...I haven't really been able to keep track of it all!! What's the scuttlebut with the ballots!!!
whatcha drinkin in celebration??!!!
The scuttlebut says the ballots were to complicated for your ordinary Scots person to fill in as there was three different votes and two different methods of voting required. For the first two it was an X marks your choice and for the third it was your first choice along with runners up.
Yes do post Melanie, I'm sure TB will appreciate the sentiment. :)
Peajay, I'm not sure if the average American would get it, either....look what happened in Florida!! :))
Why don't the election people just stick with the simple...
'X' marks the spot ;)
AJ, where'd ya go?! Is the party on??!!!
The ballot was too complicated for half blind old grannies and the new hi-tech counting machines were crap!!!The process was simple, but different from what lots of people were used to!!
Note: The organisation of the election is the responsiblity of the Labour Govt!!!
A wee Pinot Grigio is the order of the day Melanie!!!:DD
Melanie, got to spend quality fam time tonight!! But I'll be back during the weekend!! I was off today, as I was up until 7am!!!:))
no problemo, AJ...as I'm out the door for some errands soon. Enjoy your family time!!
up until 0700...wow!!! you must have that hang over feeling (ew, I remember that too well!)
Peajay, I should be on again in about an hour or so, if yer up
Will speak to you guys later, otherwise!!! Enjoy the rest of yer Friday!!! :D
Good results in the English council elections the map is looking very blue now.... :)
Well done to the SNP... hopefully they will be able to form a coalition otherwise with such a thin majority they will have a weak government.... which will be dominated by unionist parties in oppostion... difficult to get anything through in those circumstances I'd have thought..
I think the ballot papers were ridiculous .... for anyone who is elderly or has learning difficulties it would have been very confusing.
It was less like a ballot paper and more like a market survey.
What was wrong with the old system?
"must admit I was slightly worried about voteing my self but the dual coulours helped me relaise that you put acroos in each collum (I'm so Thankfull I'm No coulor blind, which some people are unfoutuntely are.)"
Eve strikes again.. :D I had to read this a couple of time before I realised what 'acroos' was !! Bless her... I wonder if she spolit her paper by putting 'acroos' in the wrong place!!
Imagine how she'd feel if she'd voted Labour by mistake!! :D :D
Good day everyone this fine Saturday!!
Anna, that is funny...
well, Ah'm doon tae L.A. furr a ceilidh wi ma gal-pals.
Ah wil'nae be back til the morrow!!!
(don't ya like my Scots-Irish accent! ;))
Okay, nevermind, maybe I'll just stick to mah southern one!! ;)
we won't have any men around to tell us to behave! ;), and we have a designated driver...should be a fun, foot-stompin time!! My friend bought us tickets (in the nosebleed section-less money!) of the Greek Theater(first time there for me) to see Celtic women. I don't know much about the band, but my friend says they put on a really good show. Will give you a report, when I recover!! :D
take it easy!!...Tóg go bog é!!
see ya later!!...Hasta la vista!!
(That's my rendition of Celtic Californian lingo!!;))
hey, I did a quick google of some of their stuff....it looks a bit over the top, but if they stick to the traditional stuff like this one, then it won't be so bad!!! :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jdsf-Mi8iUM&mode=related&search=
I've only been to two other concerts...one was the Stones in L.A. which was good,
and the other was Jefferson Airplane in St. Louis (this one was really good!) here's a run down memory lane....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Quhj6PEboCU&mode=related&search=
such is the variance in my music tastes!!! ;DD
I saw the Violinist Máiréad Nesbitt play during Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance and the others are pretty well known. It sounds like a fab evening.
Hi everyone....
Popped in for a quick hello :)
Hope you enjoyed your concert Melanie.... :)
Hope you've managed to fathom out the new computer Peajay :)
Expect AJ is still celebrating ... :))
I've been out spending money on the garden... we've turned a neglected bit into a nice area.. but we need a few finishing touches!! So, we've done the very 'British' thing and joined the crowd at the local garden centre for the Bank Holiday outing!! :D
Speak to you all later!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=st9BqruzTvc&NR=1
Great song
Great voice
Great film
I love it!! :D
hi all!!
...had a good time, but will have to give a full report later...know that I behaved myself, tho!! ;))
I'm out of town for a bit. SgtMjr has some business in Bakersfield (2hrs north of here), so I'm going with him for a few days
Anna, you're making me feel guilty about the gardening!! I was hoping to get some raised beds, or at least some pots out with basil and tomatoes....it's on the list!! ;)
will have a look at the song, ta!
see yous later!!! :D
Busy Monday??!!
Well, hope it's not one of those manic mondays for everyone!!!
SgtMjr brought his laptop so I get to say howdy to ya'll!! :D
Speak with ya later!
Hi all
Fab song Anna thanks for the link.
Busy Monday Melanie in that everyone has the day off work. Typical Bank Holiday weather in that it started out with a torrent and has now improved to warm and damp.
Hope you're having a fab time with the capped crusader!! ;D
Hi Peajay,
I'm just out the door so I'm glad I caught you! Well, it is always an adventure with the SgtMjr, I must say! ;)
I'll be in a classroom all day, but at least it will be Sushi for dinner!! Bakersfield is a farming/ranching city but it's pretty built up. This is sort of a training for me as I'm hoping to do 'this' in the future as a career. 'this' is complicated to explain but involves cognitive psychology, and helping people think outside the box, if you will. Anyway....have to go...have a great Monday holiday!! ;)
Hi Guys,
Sorry for my inactivity, but I needed a rest from the laptop over the holiday weekend!!:) The end of the election plus uni work, left me kind of deflated, so I needed a break.....not even Scotsman chat!!!
Hope you're all keeping fine:))
See ya later!
Hi AJ
Hope you've recovered..... :) Saw you on the Queen & Pres board... looks like you're back on form!! :D
I've been busy gardening most of the weekend.... my nails are ruined!! :( Had to give them lots of TLC last night .
Also been catching up on my reading :) No college work for me .. but I'll have to do some this week :(
Hi Anna,
Speaking from the Queen's dominion of Scotland, I too had a spell in the garden. Managed to roll a tree stump that had been washed up on to the beach, over to my garden, as a bit of a novelty garden ornament!! Don't know if Mrs AJ was too impressed tho', might have to roll it back!!:)) Probably get done for fly-tipping!!!:D
Did you manage to get the Scotsman last week?
Speaking from the Queen's kingdom and ruling country of England.... come in little fiefdom of Scotland!! :)
Your piece of driftwood sounds great....very artistic..! If you went to one of those uber trendy, arty farty shops in Brighton .. they'd charge you a bomb for something like that!! :D
We've got an old stone garden roller as an ornament. We found it under a bush, which we cut down when we moved in and it looks really nice now as an alternative garden feature with plants growing round it!!
What do you make of the election AJ?
Salmond is going to find it tough with a minority government isn't he?
I can see a vote of no confidence coming... and another election!
I like the sound of your roller....very Percy Thrower!!:)
The Election......a great symbolic victory for the SNP and it is a real piece of history, however, the problems are just beginning. Salmond knew this of course, and he will use any conflict with the main parties to bolster his position and the SNP's popularity amongst the public.
It might be interesting if he decides to operate a minority govt, the other parties will take each piece of legislation a vote on its merits!! Party lines and all that will come into play!! Turbulent times ahead, but I expected that to be the case, so things will get pretty heated in the near future!!
I found it amazing that Labour were considering legal action regarding the election - it was the Labour controlled Scottish Office that organised the thing!!!
Interesting times Anna!!:))
How was the election reported down south?
It was reported quite a lot in the broadsheets... no idea about the Sun and stuff because I don't read it .... the 'orrible rag that it is .
The Times thinks that Salmond is in for a rough ride with a minority government and that if the election was mirrored in a referendum tomorrow then Scotland has voted for the union!! Being as most of the seats went to union parties.
Anyway .... I think they're waiting to see how it pans out!
There's been a lot of stuff about the little girl who's gone missing! Hope they get her back unharmed..... but, the longer time goes on the less likely it becomes. Why on earth, tho' did the leave such young children on their own.... I think that was irresponsible.
When we go on holiday ... KK comes everywhere with us. I think people get lulled into a false sense of security on holiday and think that awful things only happen at home. But, unless you read the papers or watch the TV off a foreign country you don't know what their problems are. I think there are perverts everywhere... sadly.
Don't want to imagine what they must be going through tho' it must be hell.
Anna,
Absolutely agree with you about the Portugal abduction. There is noway on this earth I would leave Mish Mash on her own anywhere. Last year, when we were in Portugal, our first consideration was security - so we hired a villa for a week, so everthing we needed was close at hand and it was easuly secured. When we did go out, Mish Mash was always with us, as we wouldn't want it any other way!!
Don't you think the press have been very lenient with the couple? If it was a ned and a chav that lost their child, they would've been torn apart!!
However, the parents will be suffering terribly, which one can only imagine, and they will be haunted for the rest of their lives if the wee girl isn't found alive. Hopefully they will find the wee girl, but the reports are now saying that's unlikely!:(
I agree with you about the ned, chav or single mother thing... the press would have ripped them to pieces in that case.
I was in the post office up town this morning and I overheard 3 seperate conversations (3 different age groups as well)and they all were the saying the same sort of things as us. Why did they leave such young children on their own... it said in today's paper that the twins were only 18 months!! It also said in one report that they had left the French Windows unlocked.... if that is true then the child could have got up herself and wandered off.
A guy that used to work in the same office as me in the RAF lost his child when she wandered off from a BBQ they were at in Saudi and drowned in a swimming pool. I don't think she was out of sight for long. There was a goldfish pond in our garden when we first moved here and KK was 2 ..... but that was the first thing that Mr A did ... within days of us moving in the pond was filled in and prior to that we had a safety cover over it.
There are so many dangers but you have to shorten the odds a bit.... not leaving them on their own when they're little is one of them.
Common sense Anna, is all that's required to prevent a lot of disasters from happening. It's not always easy to do a 'risk assessment' everytime you change enviroments, but it should be the first thing you think about!! Some things can't always be prevented, but there are obvious do's and don'ts!!:)
These incidents do tend to heighten one's awareness though. There was another tragedy reported the other day where a 3 year old hung herself whilst playing on a climbing frame. I immediately put in hooks on all the windows in the house to tie up the cord for the blinds!! It was a wee job I always should have got around to, but it's only very recently the Mish Mash has decided they were of interest!!
I do feel really bad for any parent who loses a child, no matter who's at fault!!!
I've been having a look at the Daily Telegraph's comments about the subject of the missing girl. I'd say about 90% say the same thing as us.
Also a couple of people have commented that the newspapers would have been demonising the parents if they had not been middle class doctors.
The more I think about it the harder I find it to believe that they left them where they did.
We stayed in a small aparthotel in Minorca when KK was about 18 months and our apartment was very close to the main hotel area and outside bar. But, we never left him on his own, we'd take him for an early dinner, then go for a drink till about 8.00 to 8.30pm, then we'd all go back to the apartment. Occasionally, Mr A stayed at the bar chatting to some people that we'd met and he'd bring me gin & tonics over!! :D
I could never have left KK .... even tho' it was a much, much smaller and more closed in hotel than the one in this case seems to be. As it was I was paranoid about him falling into the swimming pool, falling off the balcony, or falling out of the cot and hitting his head on the marble floor!!
When we go to Malaysia I'm taking a Carbon Monoxide alarm with us .. just in case and KK has been told he's not allowed to plug his Nintendo DS in himself .. since a child got electrocuted in Thailand. :(
Anna,
Drunk in charge of a KK!!!:)
I'm sure these parents will suffer for the rest of their lives if the wee girl isn't found. Not much more we can say, apart from hoping the wee girl is safe somewhere!!
I forgot about your spawny trip to Malaysia.....when is it again? :) I bet KK can't wait!:)) You look like you might burn easily and what about freckles???;))
Yes.. AJ.. all my freckles join up when I go in the sun!! :D
I do have to use a high factor sun cream .. because I burn easily.. unlike Mr A .. who goes brown in about a second :)
Nice outfit on your pixie today, Melanie ... haven't seen that one on mine yet.. but she always seems to have her jimmie-jammies on. Obviously can't be bothered to get out of bed!! :D Wonder which one of the male weather pixies she's spending time with ;)
Howdy, have to go to work today, so will have to catch up later....have a good day, all!!
Another little gem from Eve:
"I think Blair and Thatcher both spent far to long in the job at the top. And power crups."
Yes, power crups and absolute power crups absolutely!! :D
Hope everyone is well? Bit quiet on here lately!! :D
Good morning all!!
I'm out for my walk early to beat the heat...in case anyone is on later, I'll check. Looks like a busy day for everyone! :)
Hi Anna,
Yes it's been quiet....just a wee lull I think......the honeymoon period is over....we need a bit of spicing up!!;))
I've been active today and yesterday with particularly disturbing blogs about fashion on entertainment and Papal Brazilian stuff on international!!:)))
How's you Anna?
Hi Melanie,
Hopefully we'll catch up later on!!
I'm fine thanks, AJ.... didn't realise we were still on our honeymoon ;))
I'll have a look to see what you've been up to!! :D
Its nearly a year since I started this lark now.. well, it will be in June anyway!!
It was mine and Mr A's 20th wedding anniversary yesterday ... so we are out for a meal at a slightly pricy restaurant on Friday for a treat!! :D KK is going round to Granny's for the night .. so its dinner et deux!! ;)
Cogratulations Anna...20 years phew!!
What's good is that you recovered, like me, from the first sojourn, and became became a fantastic wife and mother(not like me, as I'm a husband and father!:D)!!
I started this malarky in late June, although I had pottered away once or twice before I got hooked!!:) Look at us now....a right bunch of saddoes.....chores get left....essays get neglected...kids get ignored and life's never been better!!:D
Cogratulations!!!! Another new word!!
Yes it seems like ancient history now.... the other sojourn as you put it!! Mind you, it was the early '80s so it was ages ago!! :D
Do you ever see anything of your ex? Or did you just decide to go your seperate ways?
I haven't seen mine since '85 just before the divorce went thro' and I've no idea where he is now or even if he's still alive. No intentions of trying to find out either :)
It is good fun this blogging tho' isn't it? Can get a bit additictive tho' :)
additictive
Another new word .... I'm getting as bad as Eve... she must have crupped me!!!:D
Thankfully, I've not seen her for three or four years. I believe she's still in the area, as I've got a nosy sister-in-law who keeps an eye out!!
Anna,
Did you spot the Sassoon story on Entertainment?
I've just commented on the Sassoon story..
A good book about Sassoon, Owen .. Craiglockhart is 'The Regeneration Trilogy' by Pat Barker. 3 books (obviously!!), Regeneration, The Eye in the Door and The Ghost Road (Booker prize winner). They are all very good..... and very gritty ... not for the squeamish.. the description of some of the injuries of the wounded (all factual) are brilliantly written but very graphic.
I take a note of that. Sounds like a good read!
I added my tuppence worth on the Question of the week! Go on...see if you can get published again!!:D
I replied to your Queen comment!!!
I'll start hiding......now!!!
wow...fantastiful writing has appeared on my blog....
have to take the truck over for a tune up etc...and since I don't want to walk the 5miles/?kms back, I need to hitch a ride with the SgtMjr
will be on later tonite...
AJ, whit trouble are ye in noo, lad???
Hi Melanie,
I was only pointing out a flaw in Anna's Royalist tendancies!!:)) See for yourself on the Queen Bush story UK section!!!
AJ.... Charles II was a hunk of a man and he liked the ladies and they liked him!! :D
As for that Rufus Wotsit that played him in the Pride and the Passion..... well, yes OK I admit it I fancy him too!! ;)
Must be the wigs!! ;)
Hi Melanie :))
Hi Anna!
I'll have to really catch up on some reading now, with all the banter, sounds like some fun.
I'd heard Chas2 was scrumptious ;))
be back later...AJ, will you be allright on yer own here??!! ;))
Anna, be kind to the poor lad...he's off the honeymoon and it's messin with his heid!!! ;D
kisses!! :D
I await the welly boot!!!!
I'll speak to you guys later!!!:D
hey fella, you threw down the gauntlet when you said that to Anna on the Queens blog
....I don't think I can even save you, there!
in fact,...I might have to stick with girl power...Anna, would you care to borrow my muck boots??!! ;D
Hi Melanie.... thanks for the support :))
AJ... maybe you should try one of the periwigs.... ;)
Now about Rufus Sewell ... have a look at this Melanie what do you think?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/drama/faces/rufus_sewell.shtml
What's not to like? ;))
Anna, I remember him from The Illusionist and the Tristram (sp) movies. Not bad! :)
how is everyone this fine evening....finished your dinners, now watching telly or working on uni papers??!!!
I'm having withdrawals from blogging blethering and other such nonsense!! ;))
Anna, happy anniversary!!
wonderful resourcefulness on the garden novelties!! right about arty farty shops...better to find fun (and free) treasures!! :)
Hi all, hope all is well. Totally agree about Rufus Anna.
Aw no, more frothing women!!!!
Poor wee Rufus, he probably just wants tae be excepted for what he is....a talented actor.....but no....the girls are frothing!!!;))
Hi Peajay, glad to 'see' ya!!! :))
AJ, does that mean you want us girls to behave....well, sugah, how does it feel to want!!??!! ;)))
Hi Peajay,
Hope you're well!:)
Melanie,
Do I detect a slight rebellion in the ranks!!! As a previously loyal ally in the war against the feisty Anna, I sense a desertion!!;)
Is it my fraternisation with Canky? :))
Well, my jealous streak is not all that deep or wide, but still, it is there, sir! ;)
...Perhaps you can consider it a compliment! :)
I certainly do young Melanie! I feared I had lost you forever.
With you at my side, Anna and Peajay can be defeated, and once more it will be you and I, my dearest one!!
btw, the wine tonight is a full bodied Tempranillo from La Mancha - Castillo de Calatrava!!
Lovely stuff!!:D
why am I not surprised you are in your wine tonite, my lovely Scottish laddie!! And my how I can easily be swept away by such a smooth talking Fifer!!! ;D
I haven't heard of that wine, will have to try it. For me tonite, is a nice Lindeman's reserve Shiraz...so heaven help me if there are any articles on washing cars!!!!!
Peajay, please try not to choke too much, I apologise for my lack of resolve!! ;)
Alas the bottle is almost ersed and AJ will once again be dry, apart from Columbian coffee(instant) and a handful of digestive biscuits(McVities of course).
Late start at the work tomorrow, so mid-week bevy is good and proper!!
never tried those biscuits...saw them at the import store...will have to get some to try. I'll pass on the instant coffee, tho!!
Peajay, did we lose you??!
Melanie.... what can I say? A few honeyed words from oor Fifer and you're caving in quicker that you can say "Make mine a plain chocolate McVities digestive!!"...:) Tsk, Tsk!! No resolve:))
AJ... I've just discovered that the lovely Tunnock's caramel wafers now come in plain choc (blue packet).... so yummy, yummy!! Nearly as yummy as Rufus Sewell covered in plain chocolate !! :D Oooh........ behave!;)
I've commented on the Eastenders story so far this am... your French piece of stuff - now Ms HC - is on there too!!
Melanie... he's a fickle fella.... he's got cyber flirtations going on all over the place.... and we still don't know what he gets up to on the secret OAP blog that he's now a member of!!
Bit like that bloke in Little Britan ... AJ... who fancies the old dear!! Bit of a sick sketch that one!! :(
Anna,
You've got a high opinion of me!!!:))
I've only got one serious cyber thing going on(Mel), everything else is unimportant. However, a man has tae blaw aff steam noo and again!!!
Ever since wee wullie wallace turned out to be a dead end, you've been anti-male!!!:) get yersel a new cyber boyfriend...maybe Dave fae Barra!!!:D
AJ.... methinks you doth protest too much!! :D
You're a cyber love-rat- cheat ......and you can deny it till you're blue in the face but I dinnae believe you!! :))
As for me wanting a wee flirtation on the Scotsman board...... what utter tosh!!! OK .... wee Wullie W's attentions were quite flattering .... but proved to be a cyber-folly!!
I'm too busy heckling folk to be interested in any of those cyber shenanigans!! :D
Where you posting so I can hassle you? ;)
Anyway, I saw you trying to butter up Ms 'orrible Cankerrrrsss' on the Eastenders board..... :D
Don't mention "buttering up" to Ms Cankers, she immediately refer to the scene from 'Last Tango in Paris'!!!
Anna, I'm not a cyber love rat, the only cyber sensations I get are with Melanie!!;) Cankers is only a passing fad and I've not been active with the OAP's yet. They seem too hi-brow for my coarse ramblings!!:)
Face it AJ.... you feel safe with Melanie.... and you're a wee bit scared of Canky!!! :D
(Mind you, I can understand that ... anyone would be a quivering jelly in 5 mins with her) :D
Anyway.... if you want to gladden the heart of the ladies check out the new RAF fashions...... Mr A thinks they're hilarious... but they're also a bit pricey!!
Have a look at the ladies' swimwear bet you can't guess where they've placed the pastel coloured RAF roundels!! :D :D :D :D
http://www.rafcollection.com/index.php
" I've not been active with the OAP's yet. " said AJ fae Fife
I'm pleased to hear that because Age Concern might have something to say (not to mention an outraged Mrs AJ) if you had!!! :D :D
You'd have probably had a whole article all to yourself in the Scotsman as well.... and we could have all made comments like ... I never thought he was like that and he seemed like an OK bloke... just shows you can never tell what folk are really thinking !! :D :D
Very good Anna!!:D Too cheeky by half!!! Whatever that means!!!
I'm currently in a prolonged discourse with Canky on the Ronnie Corbett v Gordon Ramsay story!! Somebody is objecting to our style!!:D
good morning all!!!
Where are ya posting!!!
Anna, you're right, I have no resolve when it comes to oor Fifer!!! His sweet words just melt away any resistance!! ;))
Anna, perhaps you can play Condi and flirt with Finnking??!! :))
Hi Peajay!! I hope you can join us today!!
AJ, HC does seem to have a penchant for things extreme!! I think you like the challenge! ;)
See Anna, despite aw yer interfering, Melanie still comes back!!;)))
Melanie.... I know fine well that its the biscuits that have tempted you!! ;)
AJ..... she's just thinking the best of you...... :D
Anyway did you check out the RAF fashions that I posted!?
Have to go and have a look at you and Canky lowering the tone of the place....:D
I notice she's slightly changed her login name... must have been moderated... I can't think why? :D
AJ, what's with you getting moderated on the chef blog?
and, yes I'm back....I'm loyal to a fault! And I like my biscuits!!! ;))
Anna, where are you posting?
Well the ladies swimwear was interesting, but the rest of it look pretty naff!!!
Does Mr A own a pair of chinos and a blazer? Everybody I know seems to wear that get up in the RAF!!! It's so 1993!!!:D
AJ, I think that guy on the chef blog was English or maybe Canadian
Anna, what's with the RAF clothes??
Melanie... the RAF have launched a 'fashion' range.... and Mr A and I have been having a chuckle at them.... I thought AJ would find them funny as well :))
AJ.... Of course Mr A wears a blazer and chinos.... they match his handlebar moustache and squadron badges!! :D :D
I wear them as well... to match my handlebar moustache!! :D
Where is the chef blog ... I can't find it.
"See Anna, despite aw yer interfering, Melanie still comes back!!;))) "
He makes you sound like a boomerang .... Melanie :D
Anna, it's in entertainment
http://news.scotsman.com/
entertainment.cfm?id=730852007
Anna,
that's funny...a boomerang...well, it could be that I'm practical as well as dangerous when handled well!!! ;))
I've tried to be the indignant female, but the SgtMjr has broken me of any sort of female shenanigans in that department....he doesn't tolerate any form of high maintenence!! :D
I have not posted anywhere...looks like all the fun was while I was sleeping....maybe it will spice up again tonite, for the friday niters, stayin in???!!!
hi all!! hope yer having a nice Friday eve...will be back in an hour or so if anyone is around for a chat!
Hi all, I seem to have missed you all again, just one of those weeks. Have to work all weekend as well so hope you all have a good one. :)
AJ,
what was the you tube video from HC that left you not wanting chocolate?....or do I not want to know??!!
That devine person is something else...one of those DVD's turned up at one of our holiday party exchange games....try explaining that subject to an inquisitive child who was curious at the fat lady's pink flamingo costume!!! :/ :))
currently listening to....
http://youtube.com/watch?v=6kID5W9k-Zw
Hi Peajay!!! just peek in when you can....for some comedy relief!!!!! :D
another good song.....
http://youtube.com/watch?v=fsNcc2soDyY
Hi Guys,
The Divine clip should not be watched by the squeamish!!!!
Melanie, I've seen a few news reports about the drought in CA!! The fire on the island looked severe!:(
Are ye aboot?
Hi AJ,
there was a big fire in Griffith Park, just after I had been there Sat for a concert!! :/
It is very dry here....and it's not even summer yet....there saying temps in the 120F/35C
I'll be melting before long :((
disclaimer....I will be whining/whinging (sp?) about the heat so, you'll have to be patient with me!!! ;)
Catalina island is a quaint place...I used to go scuba diving there...they used to have a buffalo herd....maybe they'll be BBQ steaks now!!?? :(
talk with ya later!!
Well, the bus stop banter article looks like it could be interesting...I like the comment referring to females and their propositions...'i've never had a Scotsman before'!!! If what that guy says is true, that is!!! :D
AJ, you have a comment back from a female Yank, sounds like she likes you!! ;) on the roman legion article.... and that blue-belly (Yankee) best be careful, I may have to get out ma six-shooter!!! ;))
long day at work, given that I was out a bit late and had a toast or two of Bushmills with some friends, in addition to the Fosters!! :/ :))
Have a great Sunday all, and will hopefully speak with ya soon!! :)
couldn't resist...I answered the Yank!!! ;D
Hi Anna,
I see you're active today!! The veggie board could turn into a right battlefield!!! lets drop a few grenades in and see what happens!!!:)))
Hi AJ
I've only managed a quick post on that veggie board.... been a bit busy this am :(
You posted anywhere else?
I see Canky is doing her bit for veggies!! :)
Do you dare to upset her tho'?:)
There's a lot of upsetting going on - check out the last witch in Britain story and the Eurovision story!!:))
Did you vote for the Ukrainian entry Anna!!!???:)))DDD
Actually... AJ... me and KK were rooting for the Ukranians against the Serbians :))
Mr A was ignoring the whole thing ... he thinks its c**p and he's right.... but I enjoy it in a wierd sort of way!! :D
Anyway I think Terry Wogan's funny!! :D
Mind you I'm not mad enough or extravagant enough to vote for any of them!! :D
Anna,
i hate the music, but I still never miss it!!!:D
I'll say this quietly....it's the only time I support anything remotely under the British banner!! ssssshhhhhhhhhhhh!!!:) I was, however hoping they would score 0 after the first few rounds of voting!!
Did you ever read that book "History of Ukrainian Tractor Manufacturing"?
Good Morning!!!
whew, I need some strong coffee to jump in with ya'll this morning!!
I'll try to find yer postings....
Hi Melanie,
Grate your beans!!!
grate my....what??
Hi AJ ;)
where's the eurovision story??
whatcha doin this morn??
how do you come up with some of those posts....yer repetoire is incredilbe!!!??!!
so many questions...so little time!!! ;)))
Grate your coffee beans Melanie.....nothing beats the aroma of freshly ground coffee!!! What did you think I meant?;)
I'm only engaged in 3 stories!!
You'll get the Eurovision story in the UK section!!:)
AJ where is the witch story? I can't find it!!
I haven't read the book about Ukranian tractor drivers.... but I might if I see it in the library. :)
Funnily enough after the first few votes I was hoping we'd get null point too!! :D Are we a bit sick do you think?
But those pesky Irish and Maltesers voted for us. What are they after? :D
ha! I love the differences in the saying of things....
here we grate cheese and grind coffee!!!!!
had I 'bean' more awake I would've caught that!!!!! It seems the Guinness has left my head a bit heavy!!! :))
Hi Anna, busy day??
I've posted on the green eco-therapy and the calcium, dairy, dementia articles
have been laughing with the reads of your three, AJ
Hi Peajay, in case yer readin later!!!!
I'm out for my walk be back in an hour
.....stay out of trouble!!! ;))
Anna,
It's the Ian Fleming story - he framed the last witch in Britain apparently!!! I would have thought the broomstick and pointy hat would've been enough!
It's in the Scotland section page 2!
Right thanks AJ.... I'll go and see what you've been up to!! :D
Hi Melanie.. speak to you later - hopefully :)
HiAnna,
do you really watch those singing shows??? Those and the dancing one are all the rage at my work??!! I don't have the patience to sit and watch...I think the last straw was a tango danced to some kind of pop music....sacrilege!!! ;)
Melanie .... the Eurovision contest is a bit of a national ritual in the UK.
Everyone in the UK sneers at it ... but nearly everyone seems to watch it!! Its one of the things you just don't admit to!!
If it hadn't been for Eurovision .... Abba would never have sung their Waterloo .... that's something else that nobody admits to liking.... Abba!! :D
But it is questionable that the BBC should devote an entire Saturday night viewing to what is in effect absolute shoite.(excuse my language):)
Peajay
But that's the whole point of it... its always been absolute shoite..... but its shoite that exerts a strange fasicination over the viewing public!!! :D
Btw: did you see Joseph? Who do fancy for the man now...? Still Keith .... I think Lee is the only one for me now!! I though he was brill on Saturday night ...
Peajay,
It's quality shoite though!! I've got to admit, I look forward to it!!! It must be the Scots embracing all things european!!:))
It's better than all that Lloyd-Webber shoite - televised auditioning....what a con!!!:)
eurovision is up for the 100...any takers???
The Scots embracing all things European?
Especially the uber-trendy Euro boys and girls!! ;)
On that note...I'm off....but I'll be back this evening!!! Lanna is up for grabs tonight!!!;)
See Ya
bye AJ!! Lanna is to be grabbed tonite??!! ;))
I'm around for a bit yet, Anna/Peajay.... :D
I'm not sure I should participate in any grabbing excursions.
Anna, little wee Keith is still my favourite to win Joseph, providing he starts shaving before the finals. Poor boy he looks so young.
Currently listening to:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUvzdUe3dXQ
Well, a cyber-grab would be a unique and Newtonian law-defying experience!!! ;))
oh, speaking of law-defying....the SgtMjr had the audacity to call me a bag!!!!
His flight to Chicago was 'fer shoite' (pardon) as he had to delay, reroute, and switch planes (due to a plane being 'broken', and weather)...he was afraid his two pieces of luggage would not arrive with him....needless to say....he told me that he had his two bags with him, but not his third one...I said what?...he said 'yer at home'
he may not have felt the cyber-kick, but he will, when he gets home!!! ;))
Peajay, I likes the tunes!! :D
I'll get Dr D to dance me a jig!!!! :DD
Ha Ha Ha! He has a wicked wit that one. :DD
oh thanks for the support cousin!!!!!
And don't you be encouraging him, either!!!!!!!!! ;)
Melanie... I've got a husband who thinks he's a bit of a wit as well.
On Friday night ... I got myself 'dolled up' to go out for our anniversary dinner date. I thought I looked nice. Dear witty Mr A ... said "Are you going like that....we're not just going to the caff for bacon and eggs you know!!"
Cheeky git... was my reply!! He was a bit politer 20 years ago... a little retraining is needed I think! :D :D :D
It sounds like there will be much retraining going on very soon. :DD
hey, odd thought....okay, I'm prone to them now and again!! ;)
you all spell 'silly' with a c, cilly....right?! I almost started typing it....
I've been typing and reading so much on the Scotsman, and with you all that I'm starting to interchange the spellings even more so!!!
(excluding medical terminology...I refuse to add/learn the extra vowels!!!! ;))
That Burnes person on the Mars Bar... advert is a fruitcake.... and is deluding herself if she thinks at 58 she can pass for 21 just 'cos she's a veggie....
Aye right!!
Melanie.. its silly in English English.... :)
