Adventures in a Ghost Town

...some of the photos of Bodie. The interior shot is of a saloon. There's a 'post office box' in between the table and old stove. I've included a link for some more photos Photo album) http://www.bodie.com/. There's definitely a lot of 'wild west' history in this town. Mark Twain was in the area at some time, as well.

So its Viscount Linley then.... :))

Peajay wins the prize for the right answer :))

Still someone could always start a rumour that it was Charlie and Linley.... now that would be a worth a few quid to a blackmailer :D :D :D

He's a bit of a dark horse then - the Linley guy... he used to go out with Susannah Wotsit from the Trinny and Susannah - annoying posh women clothes advice team. Maybe that's why she dumped him!! :D

Anyway pardner... good work... fancy a sassperilla? (that's probably spelt wrong - but you get my drift?)

A father passing by his son's bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made, and everything was picked up.

Then, he saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow. It
was addressed, 'Dad'.

With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the
letter, with trembling hands.

Dear Dad,
It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you.
I had to elope with my new girlfriend, because I wanted to avoid a Scene with Mom and you.
I've been finding real passion with Stacy, and she is so nice, but I knew you would not approve of her because of all her piercings, tattoos, her tight Motorcycle clothes, and because she is so much older than I am.
But it's not only the passion, Dad.

She's pregnant.

Stacy said that we will be very happy.

She owns a trailer in the woods, and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter.

We share a dream of having many more children.
Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn't, really
hurt anyone.

We'll be growing it for ourselves, and trading it with the other
people in the commune, for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want.

In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS,so Stacy can get better.
She sure deserves it!!

Don't worry Dad, I'm 15, and I know how to take care of myself.

Someday, I'm sure we'll be back to visit, so you can get to know
your many grand children.

Love, your son, John.

P.S. Dad, none of the above is true.

I'm over at Tommy's house.

I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life
than the school report that's on my desk.

I love you!

Call when it is safe for me to come home

AJ Fife said...

That's brilliant Anna!!:DDD If only I could've thought of that 28 years ago or so!:D

A Charlie and Linley story!!!:)) They pulled the comments a couple of hours ago- that's where I got the link! There were some really funny posts without using the name! Everybody was referring to biscuits, until someone typed his full title!:D

Anonymous said...

Howdy all!

biscuits...that's funny!

Anna, liked the 'letter'!

whatcha all up to??!!

AJ Fife said...

Hi Mel,

What's this about a 'letter'???

Are you all taking to corresponding in a traditional manner.......bugger that for a game of sodjers!:D

Anonymous said...

I liked the 'teen's letter'...

AJ, what's this about soldiers?!

AJ Fife said...

Oh right, 'the letter'!!! Thick AJ!!!:D

Anonymous said...

well, I wasn't going to comment on thickness!! ;D

AJ Fife said...

Hiya Mel,

"Bugger that for a game of soldiers" is a saying, used frequently, but I have nae idea of the true meaning!!:)

Anna's of a vintage that might be able to shed some light!!!;)

AJ Fife said...

Hoi young Melanie!

That comment was a bit near the 'bone'...

Anonymous said...

AJ, whatever were you thinking??!! my comment was quite innocent!!! ;))

I'm sure Anna has no idea what the meaning of the phrase is!!! :)

AJ Fife said...

Oops, ever so sorry, how crude of me to think a Southern Belle would sink to my level!:D

Anonymous said...

It's nearing the witching hour....is anyone going to be on later so we can stir up some trouble??!!?? :DDDDDD

What are you all dressing up as tonite??!!! The teens are going to a party, and I'm taking Dr D and her friend out trick 'r treating....she's a gypsy, and I may dress up as a pirate! :)

Anonymous said...

AJ, of course, I could never do that!! ;DDD but I understand where you're coming from, you're a red-blooded male after all!!! :DDD

AJ Fife said...

Of course you do Mel!;)

As for Halloween, the Mish has been at a party already today and I'm about to pick her up a have another party at home!! it's gonna be really scary - i'm there for a start and the mother-in-law is coming too!!:D

Anonymous said...

anna said...

Hi all,

Had to disappear for a while as we've been having trouble with our internet connection (again!):((

KK went to a Halloween party dressed as Dracula :)).... I just went as myself, flew in on my broomstick and scared the living daylights out of everyone :D :D :D

Thought I'd get that in before AJ did!! :D :D

Shame I didn't manage to see the Linley comments before my internet went down.... ;)

Ooh sorry bit of a pun there... couldn't help myself :D

Anonymous said...

Well, the kiddies have returned unscathed and sugared up!!! Meanwhile, having delegated Halloween duties, I was free to sip on a glass or two of Zin and watch History Intl, while the SgtMjr finally returning from his work duties, fell asleep on the sofa!! (of course, the children had to pay admittance fees which included a sampling of their mother's favorite chocolates!!)

Anna, liked the pun! :) Sorry I missed you! Tonight I was watching a show on secret passage ways and Yorkshire smugglers (see, being slightly against the grain is in ma blood!! ;D)

Have to work all weekend (taking money off all those Cambridgeshire yummy mummies) so hope you all have a good one.

Hi all,

Quiet on here today.. :)

I had a marathon shopping day yesterday at Lakeside shopping place down in Essex. It was quite good but v tiring.

Problem is wherever you go all the shops are the same... the stuff I actually bought I could have got here :( Still, it was a day out :)

Got to tell you this story - we have got some hairy unwelcome visitors living (we think) under the garden shed :( So Mr A has appointed himself Chief Ratchatcher and so far has trapped and killed nine of the little beggars. He is enjoying himself so much that he has a computerised picture of loads of rats on the inside of the shed door and is crossing them off as he catches them :D :D

I'm expecting to see him walk past with a 'rat necklace' on soon :D :D

So, yesterday in Ikea I spotted a furry rat for £1.99 so I've bought him it for birthday joke - KK is going to put it in the rat trap for me... I'm not going anywhere near it :D :D

Btw: the best bait (we've found ) for rats is bread and peanut butter!! :D :D

Speak to you all soon I hope!

Anonymous said...

oohh, rats!!! ;)))

Hi Anna,
I love the birthday joke idea!!! :D

I'm enjoying a quiet Sunday...
the kiddies have friends here from a sleepover so they are quite engrossed in their games and not 'tugging on my apron'!! ;)) and the SgtMjr is away helping a friend build an outbuilding/garage...so he's not tugging, either!!! ;)))

...so what's a girl to do??!! It's sometimes nice to have time to yourself!!!! :DDD

Anna,
I found this blog, and thought of you! As far as I can tell, it is a blog that has reprinted the letters of a WW1 soldier that he sent home. They're being put on the blog in the order that they were sent, as if the reader is the family receiving the news...I haven't had a chance to really read, as yet, but I plan to check it out.

Hiya Mel,

You're right, I haven't been paying enough attention to ma cyber pals! I'll tell Mrs AJ to stop being so needy!!:DD OK...maybe not!:D

btw it's a momentous day today!

Anonymous said...

AJ,
at this point in time, if you told Mrs AJ to stop being so needy, you'd get something like a frying pan or hard-bound book thrown in your direction!!

Momentous Day??!!! hmmm, whit could that be??!! ;)

anna said...

Hi

Sorry I've been neglecting you all a bit as well :(

AJ... what's going on? Why is it a momentous day? How's Mrs AJ doing?

Melanie.... don't worry I'm not fed up with chatting... but even I run out of things to say sometimes !! :D :D

Actually, work and fam have been a bit pressing the last couple of days :))

We had a few fireworks in the garden last night for Guy Fawkes.... KK loved it but got a bit worried at a couple of the really big ones :) So did I!!

But, our hero, Mr A, was there with his bucket of water at the ready!! :D

I do lurve sparklers tho' ... takes me back doing childish things like trying to write my name with them :D

Hopefully, the fireworks frightened the last of the unwelcome intruders under the garden shed away!! :D :D

Anonymous said...

Hi Anna,

I know, it's hard to know what to say sometimes...no problemo!!!

The Scotsman has lost its flavour to a point....but I comment here and there....just left a comment on the robot experiment with kids.

I'll be round later AJ :))

How much vino do you want me to bring? :D :D

I'm just having an argument with some loser from Canada on the Queen's speech thread. I've met some pillocks on the web.. but he's the most idiotic so far. :D

Peajay said...

Hi all
That AJ is only a short distance from his pension then isn't he? :DDD
Happy Birthday AJ, hope you've had a grand one.

anna said...

Sore head AJ? Celebrating your birthday too enthusiastically? Fab party by the way - thanks for asking me, it was well worth the journey, just to see you dancing in your kilt on the kitchen table. Eat your heart out Kenny Logan!! :D :D :D

Lurve his sparkly kilt btw and the quick flash of thigh he treated us to on Sat night ;))

That's the kind of thing that endears the Scots to the English (well the female English anyway!! )

Speak to you all later :)

AJ Fife said...

I like Peajay's optimism about pensions!! Will there be any in the year whatever?? :)) By the time Broon is finished, there'll be nowt left!!:(

Thanks for all your good wishes and Anna's party tricks have to be seen to be believed!!:D Did you spend some time in Bangkok as a young woman? :)

Anonymous said...

Hi all!

have to work today, but I'll be around to play tomorrow!!
...liked the 'party review', esp the visual imagery of that thigh.... ;)))

anna said...

One night in Bangkok dur de dah dah dur de (or something like that!)

Sussed out my party piece then :D :D

It always raises a few eyebrows ;)
:D

Anything interesting happening on the Scotsman? There seems to be a lot of bleaters on there lately and not many funny people - altho' I've noticed you do your best AJ, to lighten the mood :D :D

I think you're flogging a dead horse tho' with some of them!

AJ Fife said...

Hiya Cyber pals,

Sorry I missed you Anna, what a great singer you are!:)

Nothing doing today, apart from from some shenanigans on the Glasgow Commonwealth games bid! nothing to do with the subject of course and all very juvenile :)

Anonymous said...

yes, but juvenile isn't always that bad!!! ;)

Hi all!!

AJ Fife said...

Hiya Pal,

Melanie said...

I'm currently sipping on some freshly ground Costa Rican medium blend coffee, made on the strong side!! yummy!!!

AJ, I should think that you like to be cyber-stalked by I pretty younger female!!!

AJ Fife said...

You should never be without one!;) It's a 21st century fashion accessory!:D

Melanie said...

ha, funny :/ ( :) )

saw you hashing it oot with Kimmy, and is Magic yer Pud frend??

AJ Fife said...

No, Magic is a local, but I don't know him, but we can relate to each other about localities and local customs!:D

Pud put in an appearance though!

Melanie said...

well, I only glanced over the conversation...too much reading at the mo, wanted to try to post something there, but I think I'll wait for 'the next one'!! ;D

AJ Fife said...

It's a bear pit Mel! Best to be avoided!:)

The story about pies is interesting - the guy in the picture is someone I played golf with 25 years ago! He owns a bakery and butchers business and weighs about 25 stone!:))

Melanie said...

will have a look...yummy meat pies!! ;))

AJ Fife said...

You won't be saying that after you read the comments!!!

Melanie said...

yeh, I'm feeling pretty green right now!!! (I commented)

(I'm sure the American version of the meat pies are better, in that they're less greasy...and made for the discerning American palate!!!! ;DDD)

AJ Fife said...

Pies aint ma thing!:(( Yuuuch!

Gotta go now, but hopefully I'll be on later, so see ya!:))

Melanie said...

yeh, can't believe it!!! oh, there's gonna be some fallout there!!!! ;)))))

anna said...

Hi all

Been trawling thro' the Glesga Games story..... whew Kimba is getting some stick on there. Mind you she asks for it :D

What's the story with her and Magic Hoops then AJ? Come on dish the dirt! :D

Had a look at the stripper story - when I read it in the Times I thought the teacher must have been a guy and that's why he didn't stop it sooner - was slobbering at the mouth (and elsewhere!) with all the lads... but it was a woman teacher... bit odd really - mind you if she was anything like a Games Teacher that we had in Wales - I can understand it.. she was more of a man than most men are :D :D :))

Her favourite part of the day was watching the girls in the showers
:( She'd have been reported nowadays!!

Anonymous said...

Hi Anna,
saw your comment on the stripper post and answered you back!!

Have to take Dr D down to the library, but should be back soon! :)

AJ Fife said...

Anna,

On a thread a few weeks ago kimba and magic swapped e-mails with a view to an intellectual fumble!! Kimba apparently sent a photo and sent magic running for his life!:DD

I think Kimba is probably a bloke!:0

Anonymous said...

Hi all!

that thread got really weird last nite! I answered Yankee G. then got the heck outta dodge! :/ :)

posting anywheres??

anna said...

Agreed, Melanie that thread was getting very strange indeedy! ;)

AJ what's an intellectual fumble? Is that just mental intercourse? :D :D Was it going to be cyber style or in real life?

I thought Kimba was a bloke before but everyone kept saying her and she, so I assumed I was wrong. Altho' I think Kimba, Lia, Mona, Maxi and all that lot are the same person.

Good news that Glasgow got the Games tho' ...excellent :))

Anonymous said...

Hi all!!

have to work the weekend, so will peek in as possible!! Have a good weekend!! :))

Anna/Peajay...what do you think....should we knit pink or blue receiving blankets!!!! ;)))

Peajay said...

I think we should knit blue for a wee Junior. :DD

anna said...

Blue is the colour ladies :))

Well that's what my money would be on anyway! :D

(But I could be wrong of course - she says hedging her bets!:D

Had an 'sleepover' last night at my sisters place. The 4 of us went out for a curry was v nice but v hot, also had a couple of gins and some wine so was feeling a bit merry and giggly!! :D

KK stayed at his Grannys... so I cannot be accused of neglecting my wean whilst under the influence :D :D :D

KK is in the W'sey Remembrance Parade and church service this pm with the Cubs .. so we are going along to watch. Looks like its going to be cold tho' :(

Speak to you all later :))

if your intersted, bbc Scotland has an intersting 30" programmed about WW2 and the Hebrides involvement (Hebridean War)

anna said...

Hi Melanie

I couldn't find the page about the WW1 letters - could you do a link please :)

The Remembrance Service here yesterday was good... I always get a lump in my throat ...it was very, very cold tho' ..

Once again, we had a the Peterborough Highland pipe band - all in full Highland regalia...and they played Scotland the Brave, A Scottish Soldier, and the lament Flowers of the Forest :) Everyone here enjoyed it.. and we have got a few old veterans in the Whittlesey British Legion who were members of the Scottish regiments during WW2 and wore their hats, tartan trews and kilts... and all their medals very proudly -bless them. :)

Mind you I heard a Scottish museam curator in Glasgow say on a TV programme the other day that they think the chanter on the pipes originated from London! So, maybe we can lay claim to them as well!! :)

Anonymous said...

Hi Peajay,

It is hard juggling things and have tos, yet wanting to get on here to chat...even harder to banter 'creatively' when yer tired!! :/ :)))
I find some of my household chores go astray when I'm on here, my excuse is that this a wonderful mental exercise.... :/

Hi Peajay and Mel,

Hi all,

Been having a few technical hitches with the internet connection lately..... but Mr A is on the case now so hopefully it'll get sorted!! :D

Also, he's been hogging the 'puter when it is working - emailing his (hopefully) new employers with various details and stuff that they want :)

He had an interview with British Aerospace (BAe) on Wed so fingers crossed - but it looks promising :))

Missed chatting with all my blog pals ... glad to see AJ's showed up again .. wondered where you'd skulked off to ! :D

I was watching a Food programme on the UK Food channell the other day.. and there was a chippie in Anstruther featured... Robert Smith, I think it was called.. it looked yummy - have you had a fish supper from there AJ? There wasn't a deep fried pizza in sight - just loads of yummy looking haddock! :D

Right Jane Austen heroine - i'll have a go at that one...

AJ.. you can be Darcy if you want ;) You'll need to swim in a manly and sexy way across a lake and get yourself some tight fitting trousers and riding boots - if you don't already have them of course!! ;))

Anonymous said...

ha, ha, good one Anna!! (sorry, AJ)

hmmm, a love a good fish and chips...had some where the batter was mixed with Guinness and Harp...excellent!! (but I don't eat that too often!!)

And remember MrA's ones!:))

Anonymous said...

do you mean the ones of Mr A in the batman costume??!! AJ, tsk tsk!!! :DDDDDDD

anna said...

Hi all,

Yes, commiserations for Saturday AJ - we watched some of it.. but had to abandon ship (much to Mr A's disgust!) when Strictly Come Dancing started.

Altho' it would be a lie to say that Mr A was supporting Scotland - he is as firmly in the AnyonebutScotland camp as most of the Scots are about the English - and also has to have something to banter a couple of his Scottish mates with! :DD He thought Scotland were playing well - in the 2nd half and you wuz robbed at the end!!

Still, never mind the Scotsman is milking it for all its worth and if its any consolation - England are playing cr*p and don't, IMHO, deserve to go through either! Just think, how Gr8 the TV schedules will be with no 'home team' football during Euro 08 - we can have wall to wall Strictly Come Dancing instead :D :D :D

Alright Melanie.... how are you hanging? :D

sorry for missing the morn, my computer was misbehaving, and the SgtMjr's was occupied by said man!! :DD

I'm hanging good, Anna!! ;DDD

...should be on later today if anyone's around!! :)

Anonymous said...

Howdy all!

Well, our Thanksgiving Day is approaching...although I'm working both Th and Fri. of which I don't mind...means two work days without office administrators walking around!!! ;) (touch wood, :/)

Sat we'll have the family dinner, which my mom cooks...it's kinda like... she insists, "don't worry, I'll do everything myself", then complains later why she's just so frazzled, and why isn't anyone helping. It's rather amusing, 'cause it happens every year.

hope yer all well, and stayin oot a trouble!!! :)

AJ Fife said...

Hi Mel,

So..is Thanksgiving a bigger deal than Christmas and is chocolate involved?

Anonymous said...

chocolate is always involved if I can help it!!!

nope, Thanksgiving seems the forgotten holiday anymore...often the ads go from Halloween, straight into Xmas.

AJ Fife said...

That's a shame, but it's what I expected.

Have you selected the turkey? All the turkeys in Britain are catching the bird flu!:|

Anonymous said...

bird flu? When the birds cough and sneeze, do the feathers go 'poof' everywhere??!! :/ :p

AJ Fife said...

The wee birdies certainly end up going 'poof' - like up in smoke! :(

Down near Anna's pad, the 'authorities' are closing down poultry farms and culling the birds!

Hopefully I'll still get ma Marks and Spencers oven ready burd for Xmas dindins!:D

Anonymous said...

it's sad, and you wonder how, why, etc I haven't been following too closely, tho I probaby should.

the hospital usually gives its employees a small turkey each year, but they're too short on money, and we won't be getting one. :(

AJ Fife said...

Mel,

Get the Sgt Mgr to go oot hunting - preferably near a farm - and bag something for the dinner!!:)

Anonymous said...

ha, ha, the only thing close around here is the neighbors pet canary!!! ;DDD
....canary canapes, hmmmmm

AJ Fife said...

Send him into the desert and tell him not to come back without a deer or a grizzly! I hear bear steaks are mighty yummy!? :)

His Girl Friday said...

hey, Ms HC payed a visit to my other blog...the post titled Enya-Boudicea! :)))

Anonymous said...

Me tell him what to do??!!! You must be joking!!!!!! :DDDDDD

fetch me a jackrabbit, I hear they're a bit stringy, but it'll stew up jest fine....

Anonymous said...

bye AJ!!

anna said...

Hi peeps... sorry for absence - had to go to college and into work this pm and tomorrow - few extra pennies for Crimbo!

England are in the middle of their big Euro qualifier as I type.... and they are particularly c*ap tonight... so it looks like I will get my wish and we'll have Strictly Come Dancing and other nice programmes instead of Euro 08. Hurray! :D

Its 2 - 0 to Croatia and Mr A is laughing his head off at how badly they're playing :))

What do they care tho'? They'll pick up their £120,000 weekly wage and take their WAG out to buy some more shoes. Its obscene the amount of money they get paid! :(

Anyway, it'll give them something to get their teeth (& claws) into on the Scotsman tomorrow :D

anna said...

Btw: I've ordered my Christmas meat from Scotland this year. :)) QVC were doing an offer on the Duke of Buccleuch food - so I ordered some of that!

I've had meat from there before and it is very nice :)) Hopefully, their turkeys aren't suffering from the 'flu.

Mind you I'm not getting a whole bird - we're not that keen on it - so its just a breast joint :))

Happy Thanksgiving Day Melanie - is that what you say?

anna said...

Gr8 ... no boring buildup for endless days to Euro 08!

Think I might support Germany - Mr A is going to support Italy and KK thinks Croatia are good :)) Well they're better than England anyway! :D

Peajay said...

May I add my voice to the joyous cheers for England's loss. No tedious coverage here either. They really are overpaid wasters.

AJ Fife said...

I agree with all you say........but what entertainment!!:DDDDDDDD

I know I know....I'm pathetic - guilty as charged!:)

Anonymous said...

ha, confession...I was rooting for Austria over England!!! ;)))
(but didn't get to see the end of the game :( )

sorry I'm late for the chat...had to try to beat the mad rush for the last minute shoppers, not that I was one of them!!! :)

Anna, it's usually just, 'happy Thanksgiving' :)

AJ Fife said...

Hiya Pal,

Don't go mad but I'm off to ma scratcher soon!:(

The Scotsman will be lively tomorrow and yours truely will be stirring like mad!!:D

AJ Fife said...

The hapless English team were playing Croatia!!:)

Anonymous said...

not mad at all, in fact I probably missed ya already! :/ :))

and here I have to work tomorrow...enjoy for me!!! :)

anna said...

Hi all,

Melanie... England were playing Croatia last night not Austria :D :D

Mind you, whoever it was they were pretty poor.

I'm off to have a look at the Scotsman board... bet there's a lot of crowing on there...

What we should have is less football and more rugby.... much more enjoyable.

KK has started playing hockey ...so I expect we'll be getting dragged off to hockey matches soon. :))

I hated hockey at school, too rough, ..but he really likes it :)

anna said...

Just out of curiousity Melanie.... do you not support England because you don't like England or because you want to be like some (but not all) Scottish people in the AnyonebutEngland camp?

It always strikes me on the Scotsman board, in particular, that the Americans get slagged off more than the English do a lot of the time. It certainly surprised me when I first started going on there :)

Anonymous said...

Hi All,

Anna, the games here are delayed by a day at least...so when I last watched, it was Austria. I was for Austria 'cause I guess, I really liked the scenery of the country, Tirol/Alps esp...plus the guys were cute in their Lederhausen...see purely scientific!!! ;DDDDDD

I was wondering about the animosity towards the Americans esp, over Candadians, English and down under?! That's why it took me almost a year to start posting!:/ :)
Hmm, I wonder the psychology behind it....AJ, any elaborations??!!

Well, I'm goin....maybe I'll get a free lunch today at work today?! :/ :P ;)))

anna said...

Oh right the Austria game was on Friday here... but I think England won that one. :))

If its any consolation I like Americans - well the ones I've met have always been really nice - especially the one from California online - whose blog I use a lot - just to give you a clue!! :D:D:D

AJ likes you loads as well... as if you need to be told that ;))

To be honest I think there's a core of people on the Scotsman and the internet in general who just like to moan about anyone and anything.

In day to day life, here, I never, ever hear people moaning about Americans ....... or moaning about the Scots either come to that.

Everyone I know who has ever been on hols to the US (mainly Florida!) always say how friendly everyone is :)

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna and Melanie,

Hope you're both well.

Luckily I'm not like that Anna eh?

There's fun to be had on the world cup draw story!

Anna,

You've reminded me about Xmas - still got to sort oot some stuff for Mrs AJ! What can you get the woman who has everything?? ;)

AJ Fife said...

And don't say a divorce! :D

anna said...

I know you're not like that AJ... :))

But, you've got to confess some of the posters sound like they have serious personality and mental issues! :D

Right pressie for Mrs AJ... well don't forget she's already got the best pressies:

The fruit of your loins (Mish) and a new little fruit on the way :))

Mr A is buying me a new coat... :)) I have to drop loads of hints, take him by the hand, show him the one I want, and the size and he gets his wallet out, while I look the other way! :D

Mind you, I can't complain about him being mean or anything..... he's very generous :)) So, hopefully a couple of other things that I've dropped heavy hints about will be under the tree for me as well :))

Right is Mrs AJ into jewellery, perfume, music, candles .. any of that stuff?

Just whatever you do don't buy her a set of saucepans or a vacuum cleaner ... that will kill a marriage stone dead!! :D Mr A always pretends he's got me some new gadget for the kitchen... but he knows, fine well, that there be no Xmas dinner on the table if he ever dared to do that :D :D

anna said...

Wonder if they'll get Jose as the new England manager... must admit in looks, at least, he's a big improvement on McClaren. ;)

AJ Fife said...

Anna,

Saw you stirring on the fitba story!:D

Everybody knows the best managers are all Scottish, so perhaps they need to bite the bullet and employ me!:D

McClaren is reported to be getting a £2m payoff! they gave him a 4yr contract - no wonder he wouldn't resign!:O

Mrs AJ is already sorted oot with her main presents - kinda like your coat scenario :D

She likes all the stuff you mention and in particular quirky antique jewllery! I'll have a rake about in some thrift shops on the 24th of December!:DDD

You'll be invited to ma funeral on the 27th of Dec!:DDD

anna said...

Hmm... Mrs AJ sounds like a girl after my own heart :))

I love antique jewellery as well... and costume jewellery too... some of the stuff at antique fairs etc, is very nice.... maybe not thrift shops unless they're in a posh bit of Edinburgh or London :))

Thought I'd try and get a bite on the World Cup story... the guy from Northants was irriating me... go back to Scotland if you dislike England so much... I mean for crying out loud he's lived here for 15 years ... what a balloon!! :D

anna said...

£2 million ... tho' and there was me feeling a bit sorry for him, I mean the players were rubbish weren't they? If you haven't got the materials you can't produce the product.

But with his payoff he doesn't need to work again ... jammy git! I think I'll be manager... they're all getting a pay-cut for a start.. and will be paid on goals scored and wins only :D :D

AJ Fife said...

I've replied to you on the story!:D

Hopefully what I've written might provoke a reaction!!:DD

Me...childish....never!! :D

Gotta go now

See ya Pal

AJ Fife said...

He might treat himself to a new brolly!:D

anna said...

I've answered you back..... I was hoping for a reaction to my pompous bit about Burns !! :D :D :D

Speak to you later cherie .... don't work too hard :))

Anonymous said...

howdy, :) I survived a nice day, and back for some more tomorrow,

I like antique jewelry as well, plus all the mentioned candles, music, perfume...see AJ we're not hard to shop for at all!!! ;)))

Anonymous said...

Friday, yeah! Is the Xmas season in the air? I know the Xmas silly shopping season is the send off today....the day after Thanksgiving is the big sale day of the year...people line up at the stores starting at o-dark thirty, there's one store advertising it opens its doors at 0400!! it's a total stampede. I think we went on one Friday one year....the SgtMjr waited in line for four hours for one (very well priced formerly expensive item)...but he said never again....either that or we'll save up, plan a sortie...one stands in line as soon as we enter the store, the others branch out on recon!!! ;))

have a great day, I'm off to work soon!! :D

anna said...

Hi all,

I've updated my blog a bit.... its been ages... the weather girly is now wearing winter woolies on there! :D

Thought I'd make AJ feel at home with a few 'hairyplanes' :))

Hope you're all OK?

His Girl Friday said...

Thanksgiving dinner all done, and I survived(the maternal parental influence)...my brother and hubby in good form, my sis-in-laws in good spirits...they're Latina...so one wants them in good moods!!! ;))))))) Just kiddin, they're wonderful...and I'm even learning some Portugese from my younger bro's wife!! :)
so, here I am, dreading the heid ache in the morn...but hey, it was fun!!! ;DDDDDDD
no, I'm not going to get mushy, but I do so love the craic that goes on here, ma friends!!! :Dx

His Girl Friday said...

Ps be warned of the SgtMjr...he likes to tell tall tales....he mentioned to my (know it all, drama king, yet naive) 11yr old nephew that he should be well warned off of the O.M.G. virus, the Ominus Mutatus Gene...that one can only catch from feline saliva so...(don't play rough with the cat, or he'll bite you!) I suppose you had to be there...but the nephew really believed that you could catch this mutation gene if you were bit by the cat....so "nice kitty".... ;DDDDDDD

anna said...

Hi Melanie :)), AJ & Peajay :))

KK would believe that about a cat as well.... he doesn't like cats and has inherited my wariness of them ... which I'm a bit sorry about really.

Altho, I don't blame myself entirely, he was at a pal's house one day and saw their cat scratch his pal's little bro' ...so since then he's been even more uneasy about them.

No-one in our family has a cat either - so I think it's a genetic thing :D :D

Altho' Mr A is threatening to 'borrow' one to make sure of the rodent problem :))

anna said...

I've told him we should get another dog instead... nice little terrier (terrorist!!) should take care of it :))

Anonymous said...

Hi all!!

Anna, my kids and I were trying so hard not to laugh!!! :) When my bro found out he just said, 'oh, gee, thanks' :)

A terrier probably would take care of things better!!

Slow morning for me, have a bit of a sinus headache...but should hopefully be dealt with here soon!

Anonymous said...

Hi All,

Well, as I wasted most of yesterday due to feeling 'blah'...sinus headaches can be a killer :(
Today is the marathon kiddie appt day...dentist, doctor, and physical therapist...ah, domestic life!! ;D

hope everyone is doin good!! :DDD

Anonymous said...

Hi all!!

AJ Fife said...

See ya Mel, have a good one!:)

Did I say, it's only 3 weeks until B day or D day? It could even happen next week!!:O

Peajay said...

Fingers are crossed for you AJ and Mrs AJ. Is the bag packed by the front door?

Anonymous said...

Hi all!!

I know, Peajay.....I love it...I'm on pins and needles!!! :DDDDDDD

and, not to detract from the impending event...but it being St Andrews Day tomorrow....it's the opening day for haggis hunting!!! ;))))

AJ Fife said...

Gonna bag yersel a Haggis Mel?

Thanks Peajay:) We have a bag ready, but hopefully we aint using it - it's gonna be a home birth!:))
That way the whole family can enjoy the fun!:D

Anonymous said...

darn tootin, I am!!!...one of them golden ones...I want tae win a calendar!!! ;DDDD

anna said...

Afternoon :))

I was just thinking about you while I was stood in the playground at KK's school waiting for him ..... wondering if Our Blog Baby AJ had arrived yet :DD

I'm on tenterhooks as well :)))

Home birth ... that sounds ideal... are you on boiling water and towel duty, AJ?

My sis-in-law had her 2nd baby at home but it wasn't planned that way. She got sent home by the hospital and told she wasn't ready... she gave birth to Imogen an hour later on the bathroom floor at home!! Hubby was directing operations while talking to an ambulance crew on the 'phone!!

Still it all worked out fine in the end :))

Hope everyone is OK?

AJ Fife said...

Do you use a blunderbus or a sub-machine gun?

AJ Fife said...

Yababadabadoo! It's Anna...how you doin' pal?....I see Mr A got his job.....how's KK?.....still dying your barnet?.....

:-D

Anonymous said...

ha,ha, ha....AJ, I thought you were replying to Anna!!! ;DDDD

Apparenly you use some kind of club, but you can't get wet so you have to mind the raindrops!! ;DD

anna said...

Just had it dyed today actually darlin' .... so I'm well blonde at the moment!! :D

Btw... has anyone seen that stuff on the Scotsman about boycotting it tomorrow ?

I'm going to have to make sure I post on there tomorrow... I hate being told what to do!! :D

Anonymous said...

I love it, Anna!! Yes, let's all post!! :DDDD

I was thinking of dying my hair red for Christmas...does that count as being ginger, though!! ;)))

AJ Fife said...

Anna,

That's the umpteenth story I've heard about mums getting sent home and giving birth outwith the hospital! There was a spectacular example a month or so ago in Kirkcaldy - girl sent home and she had the baby on the bus!! True story!

Melanie,

Does your hospital do that sort of thing? Makes for a bit of excitement and guarantees a mug shot in the local rag!:D

anna said...

Depends on the red Melanie... my sis has red put thro' hers...(she's brunette) and it looks really nice :))

Mind you hers is much longer and thicker than mine..... bit like yours actually :D :D

AJ Fife said...

You guys post quicker than me!

The boycott is in response to the Scotsman's bias! I was on a thread yesterday and today chatting to the on-line editor - he's been spurred into action!!! I'll get the address>>>>>>>>>>

anna said...

AJ... where do you stand on the boycotting issue?

Conform or rebel?

Anonymous said...

Actually, I do have red highlights, naturally, so I have them added when I add the colour...but I was joking, and thinking about going Maureen OHara red!!! :)

I've heard a few stories, and a few have happened where mom's labouring, then asks to use the WC, whoops, there's the kid taking a swim....

AJ Fife said...

Here the link :-

I'm off in a min, but it's been a joy speakin' to y'all!:)

AJ Fife said...

Rebel - but my addiction may get the better of me!:))

See Ya! X

Anonymous said...

would that be 'cause we have more nimble fingers, AJ??!! ;DDD

will have a look!!

bye, AJ...speak with ya later!!

Anonymous said...

we could conspire just to chat with each other...that way we're rebelling, but in our own way!!??

worst case scenario to everyone boycotting...the Scotsman suspends commenting??!! It only hurts them if they lose money...online is mostly free...so...?

His Girl Friday said...

in preparation for the wee sweet Shrekling arriving soon...I dedicate the giggles to be heard on my 'public' blog... :DDDDDD
(see the post, 'I dare you to laugh')

anna said...

I'm not boycotting the Scotsman tomorrow ... I think the people moaning are being a bit daft really - sorry AJ :)) It is one of the few newspaper sites (except the Mirror) which allows relatively free comment.... :))

So, I'll post - nobody will care anyway ... they'll expect an English person to be different !!! :D :D

My lovely godparents (aunt & uncle) are down from Scotland this week and staying at my mum's .... so it should be a good natter and family get-together on Sat night :D :D

anna said...

Hmm.....looks like you've burnt your boats there a bit AJ.... you've firmly nailed your colours to the mast of the boycott!

Dare you change horses in mid-stream now???

Whatcha think of all the cliches btw???? :D :D:D

Don't forget .... a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush and a rolling stone gathers no moss!

PS.... I love Gin!! :D :D

AJ Fife said...

Darn it! I've missed a chance to frolic with an intoxicated Anna!:(

What am a gonna do? Can't post on the Scotsman today!) Or can I?

The boycott is a show of solidarity within the nationalist posters against the tyranny of the Scotsman editorship, although I'm not looking forward to the march to Derby!!:D

anna said...

AJ.... why are you letting them tell you what to do?

Total control.... isn't that what Hitler did? :)

I know you're a nat but .... you don't have to be subservient... or are your frightened that they might 'get' you?

Well, I've been posting on the St Andrew's day blog...... there's loads of posters on there!

I bet some of them are nats who have changed their monikers for the day, so they can bypass the boycott!! :D

Give in AJ... you know you want to!

anna said...

Btw: My niece is at Derby uni... so if you're going to march down there - I'll pop up to her digs for the day and meet you for a cuppa..... or better still a gin!! :D :D :D

Has Charlie Boycott raised his standard yet? :))

AJ Fife said...

Of course I'll leave ma claymore and battleaxe at her front door! Wouldn't want to scare the poor lass.....I'll make sure ma kilt behaves as well!:D

The boycott has been a resounding success....very few of the regular nationalists are posting and even AM2 has stopped posting! Did you notice the Scotsman only put on one political story today? The others came later, from the Evening News!

It's a war I tell you!! :DD

PS You probably didn't notice.....and who can blame you!! I'm the only nutter here, although Mel has her moments!:D

AJ Fife said...

btw,

Anna, I'll have you know, it's only Mrs AJ who gets to tell me what to do!:D

and the Mish Mash of course!

Canky says I should name 'bairn Mk2'- Mash Mish!

anna said...

Maybe there was only one political story anyway !! :D

I noticed a BJ on the board today... was that you incognito??? :D

If you call Baby AJ Mash Mish you're going to get your Mishes and Mashes mixed up .... it'll end up like a Mosh Pit! :D

Do you notice how 'with it' I am? :D

That's thanks to another one of the nieces - not the Derby one - this is the Goth one... she keeps me in tune with things like mosh pits and the happening scene!! :D :D

I don't know what she's talking about half the time ! :D

anna said...

There's over 500 posts on that one about illegal funding and AM 2 is pitching on there as well.

Also, hate to say this but some of the posters seem a bit nationalist as well... :))

I think they're the same folk using different names....

Thank you Miss Marple .. case solved :D

Pass me the gin!

anna said...

People are also commenting that the literacy standard of the board's has improved without the boycotters ........ and some people are saying quite nasty things about the absent boycotterererers. Someone even said they hope they don't come back!

I don't think they're taking it very seriously :D :D :D :D :D :D

Anonymous said...

Hi all,

What pigeons? Do even the pigeons have political leanings in Scotland now? :D :D

If they're anything like the ones in London .. they're just rats with wings ! :D

And there's this.......

"After all the mayhem of the teacher calling a teddy bear 'Mohammed' in Sudan. Sooty has cancelled his tour of Jamaica"

AJ fae Fife said...

A yes...pigeons without a 'd'!:)

Hi Anna,

The teddy bear story was something else eh? An international incident caused by a primary school teacher, a teddy bear and several thousand psychopathic Sudanese members of the public with machetes!!

All the poor woman wanted to do was to teach in a godforsaken part of the world and try and make a difference!!:(

It's a crazy crazy world! :|

How's you and have you looked at your blog recently? :DD

Anonymous said...

Hi all!!

AJ fae Fife said...

Hi Mel,

Jist ersin' aboot on the internet as per usual!

How 'bout chu?

so you gonna put any pictures on that dark new blog ' yourn?!

anna said...

Sorry AJ... had to bale out there for a mo' .... I've been working extra hours lately .. and my college work is suffering so I had to put in a few more chapters while I had the time.

Altho' I'd much rather be debating the teddy bear story and the price of fish with you !! :D

Hiya Melanie how's it going?

The teddy bear thing was something else tho'... I mean who are the real losers here - the kids - they've lost a good teacher and probably a few more as well. Lets face it will anyone want to go out there and work now?

Couldn't someone have just had a little word in her ear and said - could you call the bear Fred or something or even Jesus and you won't be at risk of being publicly flogged!

What a country, it looks backward and so does the religion.
