The Quest for the Grail
Well, it would seem censorship is at hand, although we did stretch out of the 'realm of rules' a bit in search of the grail at the whirlpool. What pilgrim did we offend, I wonder? Are we barred forever from participating in our search for the grail at other places?? Let's hope not! Regardless, the whirlpool respite was some fun!; and, wonderful memories and chuckles shared by we who saw the humour of it!!! Friends are welcome here. Let freedom of speech abound!!!

«Oldest ‹Older 401 – 600 of 1072 Newer› Newest»Oh btw, I see there is a new art programme starting soon on BBC 2 with Simon Schama and they are featuring Guernica by Picasso - what a coincidence!! Not sure exactly when it's on but "coming soon" to a TV screen near you...:D
What's your favourite film? That's for Melanie and PJ as well... There are a few I really like but lately one of my faves has been 'Master & Commander' with Russel Crowe - I really like that film!
Russell Crowe eh!
I take it Gladiator is right uo there too, how about some early episodes of Neighbours Anna?
Master and Commander is a good film and like you I tend to favour the historical epic sort of thing. However, like choosing my favourite book, I can't decide on my favourite filim!
Spartacus, Ben Hur, Gladiator, BRAVEHEART, El CID....nope can't decide. Also I quite like films such as Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf - Richard Burton and Liz Taylor - a 60's master piece. It's too difficult Anna.
I'll think about that later. I think you've done your fair share of travelling, just through your upbringing - you would obviously take it in your stride, like all Service kids.
Did your hubby like RAF Leuchars? Peculiar place, the locals eat their young!!:D
You don't really like Braveheart - surely... too predictable :D Actually, I did quite enjoy that but I've gone off Mel Gibson a bit, now. The Passion of the Christ was a bit too much for me. We watched Life of Brian last night - it is funny ..... perhaps Gibson should watch that and lighten up a bit.
Yes, there are a lot of films I like, including Gladiator! I forgot Russel Crowe was in Neighbours - I was wondering why you mentioned that...:D
Anna
How travelled you have are, it must have been difficult to know where to call home. I however, have been twice to US, once to France and several trips to Ireland, I feel it's fairly continental when I have to go to London or Birmingham and how cosmopolitan it is crossing the border at Berwick to the tune of 'keep right on to the end of the road';D
Like yourself, I have several favourite films of which are oft considered vapid and trashy. All time fav would be The Shawshank Redemption followed by such classics as Field of Dreams, LoTR, Pay It Back and Fried Green Tomatoes.
ah comedy film:- Young Frankenstein, The Producers, Life of Brian, Austin Powers, St Trinians....etc
The Passion of Christ was a powerful film - I had to stop my wife leaving the cinema(absolutely true). She was glad she stayed to the end, but it sure was a gore fest. The Jews came out looking particularly bad, although Herod seemed to be a good laugh!!
Hi all,
That's what happens Peajay when you have a Dad in the RAF and then join it yourself and then marry a guy in the RAF!! I'm a bit of a gypsy, really, altho' hopefully, a bit more settled now. I'd like my son to be able to attend the same primary and secondary schools throughout his school life. I went to 8 different primary schools but only 3 secondary schools! Still, there you go - my parents had the chance to send us to boarding school but decided they wanted us to stay together as a family and I can understand that and I'm glad they did. I couldn't send my son away to school either:)
I loved Fried Green Tomatoes - brilliant film - my sister in law liked it so much that she called one of her daughters, Imogen, and shes gets Idgy! She is a little Idgy as well :D
I'm not surprised your wife wanted to walk out on Passion of the Christ, AJ, it was really gruesome - I watched it on DVD - I couldn't cope with it at the cinema!! Personally, it didn't make me want to rush out and become a Christian - I just found it a total turn off! Too OTT.....
How's the packing going - are you taking one little bag and your wife is taking a couple of suitcases? Men just don't get how much stuff women need - well mine doesn't anyway. There's all the 'just in case' stuff as well. Altho' he did manage to cut me down when we went to London last time ..... but I bought a couple of things to compensate for the lack of clothes!! Any excuse...:D
Busy weekend Melanie?
Hi Anna,
Will pack my stuff tonight after Uni!! Should have done it last night, but could't raise the required energy!
You certainly had a varied schooling Anna. Do you think you were held back anyway, or did the equilibreum of the family unit compensate for the upheaval? This is something that is discussed a lot with Servicemen and women and there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer. I suppose it depends on individual family circumstances.
Sorry to be so inquisitive on a Monday morning, I don't know what's come over me!
Hi, yes Anna, busy, had to work Sunday as well as today...then I'm down to LA until Thurs to finish the seminar...poor kiddies have to slug it out at gran's.
AJ, I don't let the kids read the posts...sorry for the discomfort there! :) My lil one just happened to come in the office!
Have a great time in Germany! Can't wait to hear the report!!
Passion of Christ was a powerful film...the gruesomeness just reminded me of man's inhumanity to man. Have some other fav films...but will have to wait...going to try to get to work a bit early...it doesn't look too favorable of a day...some pretty hard cases/patients.
Will hopefully have access to a laptop this week to say a quick hello! :) bye for now!
Melanie,
Enjoy your LA sojourn.
I know this is a long shot, but have you treated any famous people, given that you're not to far from Tinsel Town?
I would imagine, if you worked in an assylum, you would have dealt with many. Are you a Big Bird?:D
I'll report back later in the week with my Pomeranian account!
I don't know if we were held back or not, AJ ...... emotionally definitely no but educationally possibly, yes! But, I'm glad they made the choice to keep us at home - I think family life is important and the more stability and love you get there - then the more rounded and happy you become as an adult.
Btw...... I saw your post about looking for a pub to watch the footie in Berlin on Wed. I'll be supporting Ukraine - nothing to do with 'anyone but Scotland'!! But we always support England first and Ukraine second because of other half's father who was Ukrainian. If they'd been playing anyone else I'd have been supporting Scotland :) Mind you, the other half who knows more about these things than me thinks Scotland has a good chance because Ukraine's best player is injured - so good luck!! :)
Hello Melanie - hope to catch up with you later in the week.....
Anna,
You have a kind heart.
Did you read the book on Ukrainian immigrants published earlier this year, it was a top seller - the name escapes me - A History of Ukrainian Tractors, I think.
Very funny.
hi! just a quick hello!
Any interesting posting this week Anna?
Talk with ya'll soon... :)
Hi, Melanie
The only interesting thing I've found all week was a thing about squirrels, yesterday!!
Today's seems a bit boring! How's LA?
Hi Anna, It's fun to be down by the sea, I was able to go out on the pier again to watch a sunset over the water.
AJ, did some reading, and my first choice for you was a Scorpio, then I saw that your blog info confirmed :)
..thought you were 44? ...well, I'm still younger than you! ;)
I'll be home tomorrow, and will catch up; other half is "demanding" his laptop at the moment! :) bye for now!!!
Hi Anna, I see what you mean by poor pickins for posting!
LA is kind of a crazy...to me it is all one big crowded place, where you don't want to get off on the wrong exit for fear of being in the wrong neighborhood...Where my brother lives, in Santa Monica, it's nice; and, of course, Hollywood is an "interesting" place with a lot of eclectic people.
Hubby said where my class was, East LA, is a rough area, keep the car doors locked, and keep 'a heads up'...at least my dark hair and that I speak some spanish help a little, I was also there with a friend who is of Mexican descent...it was mostly a hispanic population where I was.
Do you have any favorite cities??
Some favorites: San Francisco, Manhattan, Edinburgh, Innsbruck, Budapest.
Well, have lots to do...I'm back down to LA again tomorrow, but this time to fly out to Indiana for hubby's family reunion...from sun and warm to snow and cold!!!! (perhaps they'll be some snowman making with the kiddies!)
AJ, no celebrity patients for me, but my coworker helped care for Julia Roberts' twin babies.
Hi I'm back again...hubby is down in LA still, he had training thru to Fri, kiddies were happy to see me, for about 10 minutes, then it was off to their X-box games!!!! :) ah well!!! (and I should be packing for Indiana)
Movies: Master and Commander, Gladiator. Kingdom of Heaven...I'll admit to liking The Haunting with Liam Neeson....creepy but fun at the same time.
And, yes, Braveheart...Spartacus, Ben Hur, El Cid, all those historical, honor, freedom, fight against the odds type of movies.
Anna and Peajay, I liked Fried Green Tomatoes,...and the Ya-Ya Sisterhood...reminded me of my mother and grandmother!!!!
funnies...Young Frankenstein, M.P.'s the Holy Grail, and the Court Jester with Danny Kaye
AJ,I think that's great about your wife's artist-grandfather! What a neat thing!!
Anna, you must have some Cancer to influence your Leo...for your getting on well enough with AJ! ;) My mom was big into astrology in the hippie era; she said that my Gemini is infuenced by the Venus sign of Cancer....so there you go! ...all compatible well enough, with enough difference to make it zesty!! :)
ok, hopefully not boring you with my blethering...just miss the banter! and will be away from the keyboard my late Fri thru till Tuesday!!
...are you exhausted, AJ?! :))
Hi all
Been a bit busy this week, myself, catching up on college work and other bits and pieces ... I think I've only blogged one or two things on the Scotsman site all week - the squirrel story and the footie.. There didn't seem very many interesting bits on there!
Fave cities ......... well, London is right at the top - I love the place:) I liked Paris and Rome, also Amsterdam was a bit of an eyeopener!! I also like Edinburgh a lot - even if it always seems cold there with a chill wind blowing!! York, Norwich and Cambridge are very nice as well!
I've heard that about LA, Melanie - can be very dodgy in places. I've always fancied visiting Charleston - it sounds nice - have you been there. Have a good time in Indiana - how long will it take you to get there?
Hi Anna, Well, I'm kinda glad the blogs were boring....less to have missed! :) Glad your'e catching up on your work...more time for writing later!
Was in Charleston as a kid, but don't really remember it...some of the southern cities have the feel of old world charm, to me..San Fran feels a little like that, too.
Hubby is bringing laptop as he has it with him from his training, he doesn't want to leave it in the car...so hopefully will find an internet access... :) will have to sneak away ;) !
AJ will have some reading here to catch up on!!!
bye for now!
Hello everyone,
It's good to be back and refreshed. Berlin was certainly an experience - all positive.
Despite elements of Berlin's past, the trip was a warming experience and I glimpsed a way of life that everyone should aspire to. I'm sure you guys already appreciate that.
Berlin is an amazing place - infrastructure that works, surprisingly friendly people, racial and religious tolerance, richness of history(good and bad), spectacular modern architecture and shopping that, I'm told, is second to none(bought a Stieff Bear for an obscene amount of money!!).
We both agreed we'd go back in an instance as we only scratched the surface of the place.
The hotel we stayed in was brand new and extremely luxurious, although the glass wall seperating the bathroom from the rest of the room, took a bit of getting used to!!
Right I'll have to catch up with what's been going on - I trust you are all well!
Melanie, you must get the Sgt Mjr to buy you a laptop!!:))
Glad you enjoyed Berlin, AJ, I'll put it on my 'to do' list!! I saw you on the 'Independence' blog - how original - an independence blog on the Scotsman site!! I've been a bit busy today - no time and not too much inclination to get involved in that one (yet again!!)......
Did you enjoy the German food? I love German food - people go on about French food but I think the Germans are pretty good on the grub front as well. Bratwurst und pommes frites mit mayonnaise was a staple of my teenage years in Germany ... yum, yum!!
Anna,
We really had a good time in Berlin, however, with my wife being vegetarian, the German fayre was out the question! I did have a German chicken salad in an Italian restuarant!!!
The deli's and cafes looked great and needed my attention, alas I was good - apart from Haggen Daz ice cream!!
The Scotsman novelty is starting to wear off, although I threw Salty McPitten into the mix on the seal pup story! Hopefully something will spark my interest soon - the squirrel story looked a good laugh last week!
It's a wee bit quiet without Melanie!
Hi AJ - I'll check out the Salty McPitten story see if you've had any takers yet?
I haven't really had time to look yet - but I'll get round to it!
Thought I'd have a look at the English don't like Gordon Brown story - I expect I've ruffled a few feathers on there!!
AJ....I think your comment about the seal pup has been removed - and I never got to see it!! What was it? Very rude....
Anna, Salty just mentioned the threat to his sea-faring livelyhood that seal pups presented. He also suggested the extermination of these "vermin" of the sea, plus the fact that the hides make nice shoes. So nothing rude - just a wee bit sick!!
I'll check oot the GB story!
Feathers ruffled, good and proper!
Ah yes I can see that a few of the eco warriors wouldn't have taken that in jest - looks as if Doreen has had a go at you!!
No sense of humour some people - anyway there's far too many seals - they need to be culled - before they nick all the fish!! Mind you, I wouldn't say that on the Scotsman blog because I'm scared of Doreen!!
I've introduced Edward I aka Hammer of the Scots onto the GB blog ........... Eve, the muppet, is taking me seriously. How old do you think she is.... she's a bit simple to say the least!! Anyway, I feel like a bit of a bully for picking on her - no challenge there so I'll retire Edward I and consign him back to history!!
Me again - I think that Slurach from Alba on the GB board is probably the same as Egon from the 'Gimmee Mince, Joanna' blog. There's something very similar in the writing....... plus he's agreeing with me again!! I think I've scored ..... :D
Slurach seems to have taken quite a shine to you, after Egon perhaps you should share some top tips from the Anna book of attraction ;D
Hi Peajay
I'm not sure about Slurach now, he seems to be siding with some bint called Jade - who had been having a little argument with me. So, I think old Slurach might be a bit fickle........ ah well, you can't win them all.
Jade's just not in your league, Slurach will soon return to you.
I did wonder what exactly you might want on your teatowel.
Hello, I'm back!!....and I'm a new auntie!!! My older brother and his wife of 2 1/2 yrs, just had his first, a little girl! We were able to swing by Santa Monica on the way back from LAX to see them!! :)
Kudos to your wife, AJ, for being a vegetarian. I tried but couldn't stick with it...my convictions weren't that strong...I still like the hummus, yogurt etc....but nothing beats a good steak or a chicken vindaloo!! :)
AJ, Berlin sounds like a neat place. I'm glad you had a good time!! You wonder if all what the people have been thru has created a more tolerant environment...
Anna, I had a chance to peruse that political blog...it seemed a bit of the same content from the usual perspectives; you were outstanding in your arguments, of course!! :)
Hi Peajay, my other half says hello! Indiana, first time there, a unique and wonderful experience ...I was time-warped to the 1950's!! ...small farming town, midwest americana...nobody a stranger...(of the 70 or so cousins/family, I only knew his two sisters, it felt awkward at first, but it worked out ok!!)
The internet service was down where we were staying, but I have to say, I was more missing the chat here than trying to get a post in elsewhere!! :)
well, let's see what's on for the day (Tues)...I should be around to hopefully do some interactive chat with ya'll; and in case there's any interesting topics, leave a note...with all of us joining in, it does make it all the more fun!! ;)
hope you've all had a good sleep!
Anna,
You're obviously back on form. I read the exchanges and the humour was excellent.:D I was at Uni last night and missed the fun :(
You may have sussed Eve out, she may well be 12!
Melanie, good to here from you, and I trust you are well - will catch up soon.
Hiya Peajay
Hi AJ, I'm going to let that quip about the English overlords go for now...... because I know you're on a wind-up. Have you got a tea towel?
Hi Melanie, welcome back (to your own blog!!) - Indiana sounds great - it reminds me of the way Bill Bryson writes about Iowa in one of his books - which slips my mind at the moment. Did you ever see the film 'Bridges of Madison County'? That was a real tear jerker!!
I don't think I could become a veggie - altho' I do eat more fish than meat - I could never give up a bacon sandwich!
I thought I'd throw in a Braveheart inspired comment. Berlin made me think about reparations, it would be good for someone else to pay for an upgrade in infrastructure!!;)
My wife doesn't eat any living thing, apart from the odd spider at night. Her sister is a vegan, which is a whole different ball game - life is hard enough without imposing that sort of belief on yourself.
I reckon she digs up the bodies of dead animal lab owners and releases thousands of farmed Mink into the wild - at least that's what I accuse her of and she disny like it:D
AJ - you've had a couple of replies to your English lords comments - including me!! I had to, because all you're doing is encouraging the likes of Shaw to think we've all got our own pet Scot that we beat regularly!! :D
Vegan - no thanks - I do quite like lentil soup and dahl but thats about it!!
Any other good blogs?
Anna, methinks, my comment was too ridiculous for drawing most of them in. I'll withdraw from that particular battle and look at the David Blunkett shooting of prisoners story!
You've got to admit, Blunkett is worth his weight in gold when it comes to ridiculous stories:D
The mocumemtary about his love life was the funniest thing on telly for ages. On a disturbing note, it was all fairly accurate!
I'm going to have a look at the Blunkett blog ..... he is a muppet!!
I saw you on the Madonna blog - we sponsor a child in Africa as well -a little girl in Kenya - she sends us some great drawings :)) I just hope the money that is raised gets to the people who need it..... !
Anna,
I've not been on the Madonna blog!?!
Ooh - its not you then..... there must be another AJ out there - oh No, not 2 of them!! Mind you, that one isn't AJ from Fife but I just assumed it was you. Mind you, it was quite a sensible comment so I should have realised that it wasn't you ;D
Yes Anna, the other AJ sounds too adult and serious to be me. He also leaves a space between A and J!
I am charitable as well - not so long ago, I abseiled down the side of the Glasgow Moat House Hotel(250 ft) in aid of Breast Cancer research! I don't expect a medal or a pat on the back, but there is good in these rickety auld bones!;)
There is a world of difference between A J's Madonna comment and AJ's Blunket jibe!
Yes, I know but I thought you had your serious head on today..... I should have known better ... by now!! I thought the Blunkett post was good - you stated the blindingly obvious a few times and guided the discussion nicely!!
I'm heavily into the GB blog still - but I'm going to have to cool it or the Scotsman mafia will kick me off again!!
Hello, will have to head straight to the posting as I see you two have been busy!!
AJ, I'm impressed with the abseiling adventure,!!
Hi, couldn't find the GB/English Lords...your'e winding down but it would be fun to read
No comments on the American tourist posts??!! ;)
Had a bit of a sleep in or I would have been with you on the earlier fun...we took the red eye (midnight ) flight from LAX to Ind. and I've been trying to catch up on sleep ever since! I hate to admit it, but I don't bounce back like I used to!!!
Didn't see the movie Anna...it seemed a quiet place, but almost too quiet...does that make sense?!Although after going about the LA area these past weeks, the quiet country and open roads seems a bit more preferable :)
Will you two be on later? I'm out the door for a walk before I start the household duties
Hi Melanie
yes, I meant to comment on the abseiling thing - very impressive, AJ - I couldn't do anything like that - I'd be too scared!! I'm not that keen on heights, either - I get a bit dizzy when the ground is too far away!!
I might be back on later, Melanie, I've got a meeting and a few other bits today tonight but I'll try and check back, sometime! Try the second page of the Politics blog with a picture of Gordon Brown and something about us not letting him be PM because he's Scottish - there's a fair few hits on there as you can imagine!!
thanks Anna, found it but the read will have to wait....lots of posts there to read...the american tourist postings are funny to read, have you seen them!
I'm trying to convince other half to do a highland walking tour with me, but he's not interested...I may have to conscript an older child!!! :) Although I'd hate to think I'd be seen as one of those silly tourists!
I took my oldest to the Santa Monica Pier the other day...she'd never been...she was having fun "people watching" esp the Japanese Tourists :) However, some of our "home grown" people are equally fun to watch in all their eccentricities!
ok, am really out the door now..will check back for hopefully some eve UK banter....sorry about this am but I'm better off for the sleep! :)
What's for dinner tonight??? :)
Haven't planned mine yet, other half is still in LA, so it's just me and the kids...I might do some "difficult cooking" as in 'order out' for Pizza! ;)
Ps. AJ, how do you balance out the meals as far as his/hers? Do you cook separate entrees, or add meat afterwards?....just curious. Sometimes the likes/dislikes here cause me to cook two entrees so to speak. Any favorite Veggie recipes...always looking for healthy alternatives that I can sneak in for the family...they're more like...oooohhh vegetables??!!
:)
Melanie - we had chicken and pasta for dinner tonight - nice and quick and guaranteed to be eaten by young and old(er) members of the family!!
Btw: Melanie and Peajay - I roasted the sweet potatoes alongside some ordinary potatoes and they were very nice. I also added some to vegetable soup and that was delicious - so I'm now a fan of sweet potatoes!!
Yes that's an interesting question, AJ, if its not too nosy - does your wife mind cooking meat or do you have to do that yourself? A friend of mine is a veggie and she can't bring herself to cook meat so her husband cooks his own... carnivore that he is!!
thanks for clarifying that Anna...I wasn't trying to be nosy, AJ! ;)
Dinner sounded good, Anna...yes, I love sw. pot! The Indiana family had a pie cook off...the only one missing was sw. pot :(
Anna, Melanie
We sometimes add meat to dishes - pasta in the main - so we eat sort of the same thing. With my wife's shifts I quite often cook my own. Also my wife has no problems cooking meat, but as it happens, I do 90% of the cooking!
I've been moderated twice today, for pretty innocuouse posts - well sort of!!
I saw your survival guide of Scotland, AJ, but not the one that was taken off - someone is very sensitive - perhaps the Scottish tourist board are monitoring the site.
Don't react to Clint from Virginia - its just me trying to see if I can get a bite from anyone - I bet Eve takes the bait!!
Anyone - I've got to go to this meeting - I bet its not as much fun as this!! I need to get out more! :))
Change anyone to anyway!!
Hi, liked the survival guide...will look for Clint
hope the meeting isn't too dull, Anna! :)
AJ, as most of the average populace would never to do such a long rappel...do you have some prior backround? military or otherwise? If not, as I said, I'm impressed!
my other half and I worked opposite shifts for the longest time...I have some empathy for ya there!
what a bit of banter continued on the tourist blog...
with my American dollar being so weak...I may have to resort to cous-cous and dried soup! :)
AJ, will you be around tonight?? Anna's gone off to the meet....if it's fam time tonite, then ok...it means I'll just get more of my "have-to's" done here! :)
sorry I missed the majority of the banter today, was looking forward to it :(
Hi Melanie
Good to have you back.
Dinner for me was skinny sausages in white wine on a bed of basmati rice.
Your difficult dinner sounds a good idea ;))
Hi Peajay, yes, but I was good and fed my children lunch...tacos
I really should be doing my domestic chores....with my being in and out with the training and Indiana, plus schooling with the kids, the house is a shambles!
I saw that you answered me AJ...are you not in the mood to talk here??!!
on the other hand, chatting is so much for fun!!!! housework can be done in a rush later before the Sgt Maj comes home!!
;)
Hi Melanie,
I'm doing a wee bit of studying as well, but I keep getting drawn back to the Tourist blog!
Sorry to respond in a slightly political way on the blog - must be how I'm feeling :)
As for vegetarian meals, my wife likes the meat substitute - Quorn - which comes in various forms ie mince, chicken-like pieces etc. That makes it easy to cook, and my wife can enjoy bolognese and fajitas, for instance. She also likes Falafels and Couscous, so it's all pretty easy.
Do you get Quorn in Ca?
When's Sgt Maj due back? Will he notice the house, maybe he'll go straight back to profound blogging.
is it a soy derivative?? We probably have a similiar substitute here at the specialty stores
I was wondering if you were in a bit of a mood?!
Hi Peajay, the poor guy has been down in LA for 3 weeks, interspersed with the Indiana mad dash and back...he's due back Fri and will prob sleep the whole weekend
I wouldn't have seen him except the planning of my training to coincide...made it cheaper for the hotel stay
It's been hard on the kids, except my oldest was with us for the last part of it/Indiana trip
AJ, perhaps you're having a let down after your fab trip??
do you mind me asking what your wife does?? She sounds like a neat person, I'm glad for you!!
Will get back to you on the tourist blog, perhaps Lanna will make an appearance!!
Peajay,
Sgt. Mjr just rolled his eyes at me when I said I'd meet you for some Guinness...deep down he knows I'm serious, though! Will have to start saving my pennies!! :)
The Guinness photo was taken in Dublin at the brewery. To meet for a pint would be mighty craic ;)
Hi all - back from my meeting - it was Ok - school PTA - I do secretary for them - so I get to scribble a lot!! Organising the Xmas fayre - it'll soon be here - it seems to come round quicker every year.
I'm just catching up on the tourist blog - I see Clint got a few nibbles - I knew Eve would go for me. Mind you, it started an interesting chat line about all the different towns called Scotland in the States.
Let me know when you're meeting up for the Guinness - I'll come along too - we could wear badges with our names on - so we know who we are - if you know what I mean!!
I see Rab took the bait - bless him - I wonder if he's Eve's boyfriend - they seem about the same age group. Actually, I must stop being so childish, myself, but I can't help it and its such fun :D
Sounds great Anna. Will def. let you know if/when I come over...it may be some time, we're a bit "poor" right now for that kind of travel, but I can see it happening...whether it's me and a kid, or me and the Sgt Maj. He's pretty burned out on travel right now.
I'm hoping to keep in touch with you guys, hopefully we trust enough now to know we're all not some crazies!!!! :)
...Lanna answered both Clint and AJ
Hi Anna
Christmas is here already, I have xmas fairs on most weekends until Dec 10th. Thankfully not a sign of a carol yet. Most are run by school PTA's some with more success than others ;0
No - I don't think we're crazies... but I guess there are some out there!!
Clint was going to reply to Lanna but I didn't want to push my luck tonight - and start getting moderated for being too off topic! I think Clint will walk off into the Virginian sunset never to be heard from again.......:)
I answered poor rab, Anna...I could just imagine the twisting in his gut over being upset about Clint! Ha! Please don't stop your antics!!!!!
Hi Peajay
Ours is just small school so there is only a certain amount we can raise but then, its all relative. Its just trying to think up new ideas every year to squeeze money out of people which gets a bit difficult!!
Anna, Eve took Lanna seriously when I said Scotland should have control over England for a change!
missing you AJ...hope your somber, studious mood is short lived....ok well, the somber part...I'm glad your studious! Makes you more interesting to talk with! :)
Melanie - Eve wouldn't know a joke if it jumped up and slapped her in the face ........ she's very odd and has a one track mind about Scottish nationalism. I wonder if she's got the Saltire tattooed on her body! :)
The worrying thing is that I'm starting to do what AJ does sometimes, arguing and answering my alter egos ....... I'll have to stop that its making me sound a bit crazy!! ;)
Some of the Cambridgeshire schools we have been to run Pamper Evenings, have you tried one of those? They seem quite popular.
We were discussing that tonight Peajay and are thinking of doing one in the New Year...
Pick a time when the Mum's are feeling a little bit stressed and frazzled and including a glass of wine in the admission price should help.
raising monies...always a problem! Good idea Peajay...too bad I'm not closer, or I'd bring the wine!!!
There's an angry bloke on the tourist blog...are you done with that for the nite, Anna?
I disappear for a couple of hours and you lot go mad!!:)
I had to watch Jules et Jim again, without falling asleep!!
I'll have to catch up tomorrow, cause I'm whacked.
Glad to note Anna has succombed to the madness!
hi your back!!!! Glad you caught me here, I's almost given up
how is that movie, it looked so sad in the plot read?
If you need to turn in for the night, I understand!
Melanie,
I'm just about to turn in. However, since it's you, the movie is very sad and a little bizarre.
I came to the conclusion tonight the woman is Bi-Polar/Manic Depressive. Her mood swings remind of people with that disorder. Her to suitors are a wee bit dim, but it's set in a time when that type of mental illness was hardly recognised. The conclusion of the film is built round her dramatic changes.
And that's going to be my take on things for my essay, but I need to spread it over 2000 words - nightmare!!! :D
Melanie, you asked about my wife's occupation - she works with kids caught in the criminal justice system or who are a risk domestically. It's a charity organisation who work in unison with regional councils. It's very hard - I couldn't do it - but she gets a lot out of it. It is a 24/7 job when she is working!
That's why I do the cooking etc
Help!! my children are torturing me with 'Weird Al Yankovic' music videos!!!! ;)
If I survive, I will be on tomorrow to catch up with ya'll!!! :)
AJ, still there?
Still here Mel
AJ, we also work with kids similiar to that in the form of a non-profit (charity) organisation. wow! talk about small world!!
we take them into the mountains...like an "Outward Bound" approach...we also incorporate parent/child trips....all designed to assist the family, keep kids out of drugs, gangs, jail etc
it's called EDGE, but the website isn't up at the time
it's hard to raise funds, so it's only part time and volunteer...(I'm only involved in a small way, it's mostly my hubby's venture)
I can understand why you have to pick up some of the work at home...it's a demanding field...physically, emotionally, mentally
That's very similar to INCLUDEM. They have a website, have a look. It is a small world!
I'll speak to you tomorrow, Gnite
good nite, sleep well!! :)
I will :)) Oh and you too, whenever that is - 6 hrs? Don't answer that.........gnite :)
Hi - kudos for the charity work with disadvantaged kids - I admire anyone who can take that sort of thing on .... I'd never have the patience or the right skills!!
I've just finished a really good book called 'A Very Long Engagement' by Sebastien Japrisot who is now dead but was a French author - the book is translated into English. Haven't read a book that I've enjoyed as much as that one for ages. Its been made into a film in the French language so I've ordered the version with English subtitles!! Its set in WW1 (always a fave with me) but its a thriller, mystery, war book and romance all rolled into one. I recommend it as a really good read!!
Any good blogs today?
Hi Anna,
There's another American inspired blog, however things are a bit slow and dull. It's on the International section.
I've already been moderated - I made an observation that Cherie is a Roman Catholic and Oor Tony would be in trouble for speaking against a Cardinal! That's all it was, apart from stating that Tony believed he is a higher being!!:)
Yesterday was one of the good days for comments!
Good morning!!
Interesting comments on the Polish 'new cousins' blog. I work with a nurse from Croatia, very nice, very hard working.
Do you live near/work with Polish people, AJ. You seem to speak/write like you have direct experience...
Anna, Sebastien Japrisot and the book sounds very familiar...I'll have to look it up...it sounds good!
still looking for something to comment on...
Which one have you been moderated on - AJ? is it the independence blog or the one where you're on about how the Scots invented everything including America? You've been reading that tea towel again haven't you?
Yeah, you might have heard of that book/film, Melanie, the book was first published in '91 and the film came out in 2003. Its got Audrey Tatou (think thats how you spell it!) in it ......... the French actress who was in Amelie and its directed by the same guy!
Anna, I answered AJ on the 'McConnell buys holiday cottage on home island' blog...this one could get interesting maybe
Hi Anna and Melanie,
I was moderated on the Blair v Cardinal blog.
Melanie, I've known quite a number of Polish people, especially 2nd and 3rd generation. They have blended in perfectly - most of the families settled here after WW2, because they couldn't go back to Poland. Many Poles worked in the mines in Fife and were well respected.
Also the area I live had many Polish soldiers billeted in and around the town during the last war - there is a memorial only two hundred yards from my house commemorating their involvement at Arnhem or Operation Market Garden.
These are the reasons I have absolutely no problem with the integration of most immigrants, unlike many of my ill-informed and uneducated countrymen.
Another clue for Inspector Anna!!:D
AJ, INCLUDEM sounds like a really good program. Our program would be like a satellite program that this group would refer out to. We interact with several community-based organisations...that send their kids and mentors (sometimes parents, too) to us.
Up in the mountains/wilderness/nature, people can be encouraged easier (usually) to lower their 'walls' and talk, work things out. There's a lot of neat dynamics that take place (facilitated). Then the mentors, once back in civilisation, carry on with hopefully some of the "breakthroughs" that the kids experienced.
As I said, it's part-time and a lot of the mountain work, we can't participate in any more due to career/family obligations.
Anna, let me know any of your sleuthing breakthroughs!!!! This AJ is a tricky one! ;)
girlpower!!!!
Melanie,
That sounds like valuable work you've been involved in.
Do you feel the root cause is poor parenting or just a natural change in the power of peer groups and certain social cicumstances.
If we start discussing these issues we'll be here all day - especially with Anna the Boot Camp Commandant. Only kidding Herr Anna.....oops :D
Agree with you about the Poles -AJ - we owe them a debt - even if a lot of people in this country are too uneducated to know or care about it. The Polish airmen in the Battle of Britain gave their lives for this country ..
Anyway, as I've said before my husband altho' not Polish is half Ukranian which makes him a second generation immigrant in some people's eyes! Plus, his late Dad, who I was extremely fond of, suffered a lot of discrimination and prejudice when he first came here during WW2. He was just a young guy of 16 at the time and he'd lost all his family (as far as he knew) when the Red Army took control of his village, he managed to escape with a couple of other guys and they joined the Wehrmacht and fought against the Red Army at Stalingrad. He was eventually taken prisoner of war by the British - which was fortunate for him because it meant he got brought over here and not sent back to Russia (and probable execution) after the Yalta agreement. Whenever, I hear about nasty things said about 'immigrants' nowadays I try and remember how hard life was for him when he first came here and what a great guy he was. :D
Not sure if my sleuthing abilities are up to AJ's clues but I'm working on it.
I think the main root is the parenting, or lack of!! but, I also think the outside cultural/social influences also apply to a point, as well as positive/negative role models. Your right, this is really in depth
Leven?
Anna, I understand a bit about the discrimination...my older (step) bro's mom was German, came here in 1942, and could only speak German. her family was escaping the trouble, but they were not treated well at all.
out for a walk in the cool air, be back in an hour! will be pondering on our blethering! :)
actually, will be thinking on more sleuthing questions!! ;)
Melanie PI,
You've nailed it, well done :D
The way this is going - I'll be dishing out my credit card details to you in no time:D
don't worry, I'm not a high-maintanence accessory-minded female! Your credit cards are safe!! ;)
I am quite high maintenance AJ (well, you are when you get to my age!!) - so don't pass your credit card details on to me!! Gimmee, gimmee, gimmee!!
so Anna, does that mean I have something to look forward to....!!! ;)
I suppose I'm high mainentance in the form of liking to travel...but I suppose that can be seen as a shared activity!!! so not too bad of a habit!
I would have guessed that would be the case - Melanie is just happy to enjoy nature and life in general, while Anna has a more high powered career minded ruthless approach type thing going on!!
Earth Mother v Mrs Thatcher
:D
well, I have to admit, I'm not very career minded,
oops that thought will have to wait...I promised the kiddies a "cooked breakfast" and they're nipping at my heels!!
....earth mother on a mission to nourish her wee bairns!
;)
Anna, don't pass yourself as being that much older...you're being tricky, too!!! :)
Oh, AJ ....... thanks for the Mrs T. comment - not!! I'm not really that high maintenance altho' I'm not sure that my beloved would agree with that statement!! I do have a wardrobe stuffed to bursting with clothes (not designer but not cheap tat either!)and I will confess to liking girlie stuff like jewellery and make-up. I always have done - I also like to get my hair done recoloured and styled etc on a regular basis - but my sister is a hairdresser so I get family rates!! I know I sound a bit materialistic but I don't think I'm too bad and I don't wear loads of make up - just a little eye make up and lip gloss. I do, however, spend a fair bit on good quality skin care! I'm really not as vain as I sound but I do like to look presentable. I'm in my mid-forties btw, Melanie so I'm not too ancient, yet (I hope). :D
"If we start discussing these issues we'll be here all day - especially with Anna the Boot Camp Commandant. Only kidding Herr Anna.....oops :D"
Yes, AJ, bring back National Service, immediately for all the little 'wotsits'!! You can be the first to "fall in you 'orrible little man"!!
I've been busy on the Madonna blog - I'm actually agreeing with Iron Drawers Martha!! Amazing! I'll have to go and have a look at the ones you 2 were talking about. It took me ages to wade thro' the independence (again) blog. What are we all going to do if Scotland gets independence there'll be nothing left to argue about!
look at you, Anna, ain't we on a roll!!!!!!
right about the upkeep...must look good for our menfolk!!!
I was only on the wee Jack and his Arran cottage blog...let me know where you end up, but I'll be sporadic in comments...have to focus on kiddie schoolwork as I work the next two days...
AJ/Anna, what are your weekend plans...I'll be around to blog...no traveling anywhere
I'm on a girlie shopping trip on Saturday, Melanie!! Off to Birmingham for the day ..... bit of shopping, lunch, chatting - you know the sort of thing!! The place where one of my friends work is organising it as a coach trip so - it should be interesting. I would have preferred London but heyho, you can't be too fussy! Having said that I've never actually been to Birmingham - except to change trains many years ago on the way to somewhere else - so I might really like it! Have you ever been there AJ?
I'll catch up with you on Sunday tho' - let you know how I got on!
sounds like it will be a great day!!
saw you on the Madonna blog and agree with you, of course! :)
crazy world we live in!!!
Anna/AJ other half and I got on the subject of retirement ...which is still a bit away, but as we don't want to stay in Calif. we started thinking about plans for relocating (and where)
do you two plan to stay where you're at? My friends mum went to Spain. We have other friends who went to Texas...
anyway...just a random thought! :)
I like where we live, Melanie, I don't want our small town to get any bigger - bit of a NIMBY (not in my backyard!!).. it probably will but as I said we like it very much at present. My mum just got back, today, from visiting friends in Spain who have retired there. She says their villa is very nice but they have a lot of problems with security and crime and some resentment from the locals.... so the grass isn't always greener on the other side even if the weather is warmer.
Much as I like France - I don't think I'd want to live there, either. I have to say that, despite our moans and whinges with the government - I like this country and I don't mean just England I mean all of the UK - even Scotland, AJ!! :D
Leven - nice place - I've just been having a look at a website. Nice beach - is that where you walk your dogs, AJ?
sorry, didn't realize how late it was your way...no doubt you're tucked into beddy by??!!
we're thinking Washington State or Colorado, but we're weighing in on Indiana...I think he likes the idea of being back 'to his roots', plus cost of living is really good comparatively..."jest call me the old farmer's wife!!!!" ;)
lots of homework tonite, AJ?....2000word essay, ugh!! :)
but I think you had a good idea with the mental state of the woman!
Hi folks,
You're correct Melanie - homework!
Anna, that will be the beach I walk the dogs on, our house overlooks it. Leven isn't what it used to be, it's a tired auld toon. It's good if you like golf!
Melanie, we have often thought about Australia, mainly because we've been there and have friends which would help make the transition. Maybe one day!:)
still there?
Holy crap! I have had to read over 500 post just to come to realize that this post has nothing to do with the Holy Grail. I guess I was hoping and waiting for something a bit more earth shaking. How can 4 people post so much and say so little? I am besides myself.
Then again, maybe your on to something. I realize that after reading 500+ post looking for some answer to life's questions that I feel the same as when I walk out of a long church service with a long winded preacher. I have to ask myself, "why the hell did I set through to whole mess?"
Who is numb now? Just a passer by on the internet who googled Holy Grail and got us? Never, mind numb now - at least you got some good recipes, book reviews, travel news and film recommendations from 4 fab people who just like to talk!! :D
Not really a golf player - AJ - altho' the other half has talked about him taking it up - but he hasn't got round to doing anything about it!! Just as well really, my friend's husband plays and she complains about being left at home all the time with the children, so I'm quite glad that mine is so half hearted about it!! Selfish I know, but family life is important as well :)
Mornin' Anna,
Well said, it's a bit strange somebody else happening upon this site! I tend to think we are the sole users, but of course we're not!
I wonder if he is a Mid-West bible bashing type?
Melanie, I've just had a look at your wine link - is the lady with the short dark hair on the changing photo display you? Wearing a white top and holding a glass of wine? If it is, then you look extremly high maintenance to me - look at those gorgeous nails and that complexion!! :)
Anna,
I used to play golf - many moons ago - and you're friend is correct, it's unhealthy for family life. It also can engender a pretty selfish attitude on individuals, because of the very nature of the sport.
Of course it's a huge sport in Fife, with St Andrews and all the other ancient links. Leven has two golf courses!
If you play for purely social reasons ie 7:30 tee off on a Sunday morning with your mates, it can be good fun and worthwhile. It's when you become competitive that the obsession can potentially start!
I speak from experience!
You could be right - AJ - definitely not UK - unless he's on the night shift!!
Thing is if you google Holy Grail you will chance upon this site among the thousands of others - it picks up every reference to it, which is why the internet is great but kind of scary as well! :) Any good blogs, yet....
Mind you for all Numb now knows we could be talking in Da Vinci code speak couldn't we? Hey, numb now you need to crack the code!!
(Numb now - I can't help it but I keep wanting to call you numb nuts - sorry its a slang British thing!!- no offence intended):)
Anna, is that a new photo I've missed. Melanie does look a well turned oot lass!
Please forgive my Mrs T jibe, I'm glad you look after yourself - you do sound high maintenance though! I'm now getting that Joely Richardson image again with the character of Jennifer Saunders thrown in!!
;)
Yes, AJ, I must say I much prefer Joely Richardson to Mrs T...... I never could stand her taste in handbags... and that voice - groan - the very worst kind of snobby, high faluting English tone! But I had a laugh at it anyway and I tell you what if that is Melanie then she is one 'spiffing looking gal'!! :)
Is it the photo on the top right hand side of the site? I can't find the link, darn it.
Haven't come a cross any decent stories yet.:(
Try http://www.adwineadventures.com/d.cgi/mc1024/home.html
Have you had a look at the Picasso blog - I'd have thought that would have been right up your alley - seeing as you like him! You probably won't agree with my comment tho':)
http://www.adwineadventures.com/d.cgi/mc1024/
home.html
Anna,
Ha, very good, tthat is certainly an attractive lass in the advert with the wine glass, but it's my understanding that Melanie is the lass in the photo below with the woolie jumper!!
Maybe not as glamourous as the professional model, but definately more beautiful and homely! As I've said before...an Earth Goddess :D
Anna,
Thanks for the Picasso tip, I'm enjoying a semi-intellectual converation on that topic. I better quit before they find me out :D
It really does look like a todger - but I bet that was Picasso's intention!!
My intellectual converation has ended, when I mentioned the subject was "displaying bingo wing"......sorry!:D
Hi AJ - had to go and do some work for a bit - not fair is it? It is a winky (as my son calls them!!) I think that was Picasso's intention on that pic - she was his mistress after all - it probably has some surreal explanation!! I dread to think what it is - best not to go there
I still can't get the pic of Melanie in the wooly jumper for some reason - maybe I haven't got the media chip (or whatever) that will pick it up - or it could be my firewall blocking it. Ah well, I'll keep checking it out - I'm sure she's much more gorgeous than that model, as well! :)
I won't be posting any pics of me on here tho' - I like the Joely Richardson image far too much to want to disillusion anyone!! :D
good morning...will have to take a quick look at the Picasso blog...you two are chatty
funny about Numb, and what you said about the name, Anna! :)
thankyou, AJ :)
Hi Melanie,
Hope you are well this morning/afternoon. It's been chucking it down all day here, so it's pretty miserable in Sconnie Botland!
Do you think Numb Nuts will be back? What have you got planned for today?
The Picasso blog isn't too bad and I've added comments to the Iraq pull-out and animal police stories. I do expect to be kicked off the Iraq site!:)
I have to work ;( alas...why does is seem the funny blogs are on those days!!!
Camilla was just about to make an appearance on the Picasso blog
sorry about the rain...I love the rain, but I suppose what all you have to deal with it, I can see your wanting to be in Australia, instead!!! :)
I'd probably be the same!! :)
Hi - it was raining here this morning but is now a lovely afternoon .... in Cambs
AJ, Camilla had to include JG to refer to his comment, was I too much there??!!
ugh, if I don't watch it, I'm going to be late...what will I say then as my excuse??!!
Hi Anna!
Melanie,
Your comment was fine, although my response might not be!!:)
You could say you're suffering from food poisoning caused by following a dodgy recipe from a Scottish eejit:D
Uh oh, AJ, naughty comment to Camilla ......... same subject again!!
have to run out the door,ah! I'm late!!
I answered you 'quickly' AJ!! ;)
talk with ya'll tomorrow!!!!
have a great day!!! :)
Anna, Same subject?
It not as bad as the Tony blair pull-out comment, which is still on!!
Wasn't it that old cad - Corbett Hunckers, the last time?
I must say, Camilla is very flighty!!
AJ - I meant the reference to oral sex was the same .......!! Funny tho'... any other blogs - what is the Tony Blair one?
Anna, I know you meant O.S.
The Tony Blair story is in the Political section - dealing with the forces pull out.
Anna,
That was an AJ rant - Blair's legacy, I liked that.
It's funny how we now support one another. When we first started, it was pistols at dawn :D
Mary fi Methilhill has been a powerful force :D
Yes - you should never underestimate the power of the Blessed Mary fae Metilhilhill .... lord love her!! :) At least I don't cast aspersions on whether or not you are light in your loafers or catching the other bus!! I love all those little phrases - they're so naff!! I know there are some very rude ones as well!! Uphill gardeners is a favourite of my other half along with botty bandits!! Melanie will start moderating me soon for not being PC enough on her blog!! Sorry Melanie .......... AJ is leading me astray again ... :D
Ahem.....I seem to remember being accused of being in the "closet" in the pre-Joanna days!!;)
Like you I like the expressions for men of dubious sexual intent. I remember "Drain Pipe Engineers" as a particular favourite:D
Yes thats what I meant to say - AJ - at least I don't insult you by calling you a wooly woofter anymore do I? They are getting worse - I'll be getting a knock on the door soon, from the PC brigade!
Btw: Haven't seen old Corbett around for ages - is he still on his travels? It was Odessa last time wasn't it? I have this vision of an old buffer going Harumph a lot, bit of a dirty old man, wearing a white suit, quaffing gin and stuck in a 'British Empire' sort of timewarp. Would that be a fair description of old Corby?
Anna, that's exactly the image, with a bit of Leslie Phillips thrown in.
I'm off home now, see ya:)
See ya AJ ....... off to the real work? :) I'm starting to like that Picasso picture now - the more you look at it the more you see in it. Its quite rude really!
my, what interesting subjects you two were going on about today...especially as this is such a spiritually meditative place!... ;)
PC????...hmmmm?
Potatoes and Cabbage??? ;)
Yes, AJ, 'flying' out the door is more like it, I lost track of the time!! Have to work again Fri, but will say hello in my am.
Anna is going on a wonderful shopping excursion Sat. What are your plans?? Just wondering if I should plan part of my day around chatting with my internet friend?! :)
How's the essay coming along??! Actually, Sat, I will be at my desk a bit...have some homework stuff, as well, to do...
PS...AJ, I thought your comment was interesting...
"With the advent of photography providing"true images", Picasso offered a different viewpoint, which is open to interpretation on a number of different stylistic and artistic levels."
...were you sincere with this? I thought it a good argument.
Although, I have to agree with Anna on "the more you look...quite rude" part!!! :)
travel warning...when in Indiana, drive carefully...racoon and possum bodies were everywhere on the roads....which lent me to think, what in the heck was in cousin Betty's country stew!!! ;)
good nite!!
Melanie,
I was being sincere, and it is a view I've formulated, although It's certainly not unique to me. Sometimes my brain works!!:D
Cousin Betty's obviously an imaginative cook then!?! Does she have a Racoon hat, rocking chair on the porch, tobacco that you chew and one tooth. Not forgetting an apron with the entrails of slaughtered animals smeared over it;)
Anna is away shopping in Birmingham! Funnily enough, for some reason my wife and her pal wanted to go there for a shopping spree. It wouldn't be me, although I've never spent any real time in Birmingham, I can't imagine it's better than London. It does have a very good airport and infrastructure however, which was maybe the attraction! Who knows how female logic works;D
Have you ever been to Birmingham, Alabama? Surely it's a place that'll live in American Folklore for the next two thousand years!
This weekend Melanie, I'll be finishing my essay(which hasn't started yet!)and also, I'll be laying 1.5 ton of granite chips in the back garden!!:(
AJ, I commiserate with the yard work!!! I'm always be conscripted for various 'chores'!! :)
female logic...yes, an equally challenging task for my half, sometimes, as well...I'll admit! :)
(but you menfolk love us, anyway!!!) ;)
Well, it sounds have if Sat will be busy for you...wouldn't mind hearin key points from the essay, though...and, I've been told, I'm an excellent proofreader!! :)
If I'm out Sat, it will hopefully be to ride my equine, and football with my boy in my am. Otherwise, I'll be home with my varing domestic tasks! :)
Melanie,
You've posted at 05:11!!! Is that your normal time. The Sgt Mjr works you hard!!
Once I concoct the essay, I'll tell you the main points, though it's going to be mainly on the technical side of the productions. Which will be interesting, since I haven't got a clue!!!:(
You sound like you have a pretty full day/weekend...........enjoy!!:)
AJ, I'm only now really learning to appreciate art. We were in Barcelona but didn't make it to any museums there.
I still think it neat about your 'gran-dad-inlaw' artist...do you have any of his things on display?
posting anywhere...I'll watch my time better today!!:)
No, to both Birminghams
I'm up usually closer to 0600, but this typing is so addicting, I woke up before my alarm. Dare I say, tho I have a busy weekend, I would make time to post...here
did you see the Australian drought piece, how sad
Melanie,
I've posted on the Borat story and Salty McPitten managed to get a messageboard closed down!! It was only a comment about fish!!
I'll check out the Aussie story.
which blog was Salty on, or has it been erased all ready...do I even want to know??!!
as you might know, we nurses, when let loose, can have a 'warped' sense of humour!!! ;)
motto of the day: "I'd rather ask forgiveness, than to ask permission!" ; D
Melanie, Nurses!!!! white uniforms......nothing underneath, is that true?
Salty was just talking about sea monsters that lived off the Fife coast - a giant Cod called Colin!!
It was just daft!!:D
Ask permission!....forgiveness!........yer a wicked wee lassie Melanie!!!:D
you made me blush then, Shrek! now I know a bit what a Scotsman feels when questioned about his kilt...but know doubt, like Picasso, the Scotsman would be rather proud of his best part!!! ; D ...what's that song...'gar all her ribbons reel'...or did I misinterpret the Scots ;)
Don't know that one Melanie, have you been putting whisky in the cornflakes again?:D
folk song, Old Blind Dogs,...something about a Trooper and the Maid... (jest tryin to be a wee bit humorous) :) Actually, Baileys...makes for a nice Smooth day! ; D
Will have to be leavin soon... I don't envy your back tomorrow at the end of the day!!! But, I bet when your done, it will look nice!
I think I saw Anna's photo mention of the Leven beach you walk on...it has flowers in the lower left corner, with the sand and water to the upper right...a very nice beach! :)
Melanie, I knew you were being humerous, otherwise I'd think you'd lost it completely;)
That sounds like Leven beach, I stay in one of the Victorian houses overlooking the bay. If you check for Leven postcards on e-bay you can sometimes see ma hoose!!
This isn't fair, I know what you look like Melanie, sort of have an idea of your surroundings, but Anna is still a mystery!!
She's obviously not as daft as us!!;)
Yes AJ & Melanie - a woman of mystery - that's me!!
Any good blogs today, haven't had time to look properly, apart from posting something on the house price blog....
Try this website to give you a very loaded clue of what we get up to in the cold fenlands of Cambridgeshire in January!! http://www.strawbear.org.uk/
Not unlike the wicker man is it? I think they let the man out of the bear before they burn it ... but .... you never know!! :D
Anna,
Do you need to be rescued?
The pagans might decide you're next! Look what's happened to Ursula:D
I'll study the pictures later!!
No - don't worry AJ .... the beer and the laughs brighten up our little pagan festival!!
Anna, what a wild time!!! And here I've been led to believe the English were so proper!!! ;)
I'll have a better look at the rest of the site, tomorrow...I'm pretty tired...busy day at work, not to mention I was up very early chatting with Shrek! ;)
Have a great day shopping!! :)
AJ, I wonder if a photo of Anna is hidden anywhere on that site! Clues Anna?!
ok,AJ, knowing that my curiosity will get the better of me, you will now have me perusing e-bay sites in search of your abode! :D
Well, ma head is heavy so I'm off to bed!! ...have a great morn/day and will catch up with ya'll later...will have to e-mail Peajay and see what she's been up to...I wonder if she's been to your festival, Anna! :)
Hi Melanie
No festivals, only work, work & more work. Starting to lose which day of the week it is.
That AJ's a bit of a risque laddie isn't he with his wee wicked suggestions to poor, innocent Camilla? As for the woollie woofters etc, PC = Politically Correct as opposed to various forms of veg. Nice thought tho as it is an overused phrase.
Hi Peajay...I see you beat me to the e-mail! ;)
Yes, AJ can be rather.....creative! :) Although, Camilla has the capacity to be 'politely warped' in her own right...(I'm used to other half and his friends' humour, so AJ is pretty safe from me taking offence!!) :)
(other half would laugh that you said "poor, innocent"...) ;D
PC really is overused...I was just being silly with the veggies! Though I have to be careful at work, etc because, tho usually always polite, I'm not always PC...I suppose it falls into the category of ask forgiveness rather than permission! :)
Well, you're working, Anna's no doubt exhausted from shopping, AJ was toiling away in his yard and is now probably saying a few choice words as he's thinking about what to write for his essay!!!! ....so with all of you busy, and my day's work done, I'm off to a friend's house with the fam for a BBQ
will talk later!!
Good Morning Anna, Melanie and Peajay,
Just a quick hello, as I'm immersed in my essay, which is proving pretty difficult. However, I'll get there.
Hope all is well and I'll speak to you all soon.
PS I relly think Anna needs rescued!!
Hi all
Well, I survived shopping in Birmingham (Brum!) - it was very, very busy and its only October - dread to think what it will be like nearer Christmas. I was pleasantly surprised tho' at how nice it was. I've always thought of Brum as being a bit industrialised and scruffy - but it has had a huge facelift and was quite attractive in a modern, urban way. Anyway, we had a good laugh and chat, bought a few things but managed not to break the bank .......... much to the relief of other half! ;) So a good day out but very sore feet and exhausted last night. Brum is also very multi cultural - a few women in full burkhas about and lots of colour and vibrancy and an excellent indoor market which had loads of Afro Caribbean and Asian influence..... and some very strange looking veggies!! So, a good day out .... but quite tiring. Never mind, I managed a bit of a lie in this morning so not all bad!
Ah yes, the Straw Bear festival, here is a bit different isn't it? Its good fun tho' and adds to the character and friendliness of this little town. I'm not in any of those pics but we do 'follow the bear'...... the crowds get bigger every year and there are visitors and dancers from other parts of the world and lots from all over this country. There are morris, molly, sword, clog and others and there are some amazing costumes and some very enthusiastic and 'mad' people about!! Lock up your daughters!! :D The police close the roads for the day and the dancers dance in the market square and on the street - mainly outside one of the pubs on the Bear route!! They raise loads of money for local charities as well...
Glad you enjoyed the trip to Brum. I've flown into Birmingham, but only for convenience on a visit to Shawbury.
I'll have to get back to work, see ya!
PS Did you have a curry?
No - we didn't have a curry - just a nice lunch and a very fattening, calorie laden cream tea - which was yummy. Have to diet all week now to work that one off!! ;)
Still laying your gravel? I've had a look at two blogs on the Scotsman - the one about calling people pet or hen and the one about medical intervention in pregnancy - that might interest you Melanie!!
Hi Anna, I agreed with you on the pregnancy blog. Only took a quick peek on the other. Looks like the Potato and Cabbage police are at it again....what do you think of all that? I've only had a few times when I wanted to tell a guy off for being condescending...for the most part, I take it as a compliment! (I have no feminist chip on my shoulder! )
AJ, was your wife on that blog? #86 Darlin from Fife?? I liked her style!!! How's your paper progressing, and more importantly, how's yer back feelin??!!
I couldn't help myself...Jake from Texas made an appearance on the PC word blog :P
I have a pal who's a deputy sheriff (sounds similiar to Darlin from Fife), and it's tough for a female in a man's world, esp that world, but her professionalism garners respect among her male peers, and for the most part she is not hassled. (there are always some clods, but she just ignores them)
hope yer all havin a good day... :D
Naughty Melanie - I would never have guessed that Jake from Texas was you? You've certainly set the 'hens' clucking on there!! I nearly replied to 'Jake' myself but decided to let it go ... I'm glad I didn't now that I know it was just you having a chuckle!! :D
What we need is old Corbett Hunckers on there to really stir things up a bit!!
Morag on the pregnancy blog sounds a bit of a yoghurt knitter to me ...... I bet she's still breastfeeding all her older kids and half the neighbourhood as well!! Miaow!
It sounds as if all her births are a big community event... Wonder if her hubby/partner films them and sends out DVDs as Christmas presents! Sorry, my bitchy streak is showing ..... but women who get so competitive and show-offy about childbirth annoy me!
Aisla has answered Jake on the names blog - well actually I think she's ticking him off.... she's not a happy bunny that one!
ah.....I've finished......bit of editing tomorrow........hand the essay in.........hope for the best!!
Backyard done and dusted, walked dogs with the wee one, cooked dinner and currently having a nice red Rioja:))
You guys sound on good form, Melanie is a wee minx!!:)
Sorry Anna. Corbie is on his holidays, but will be back with his particular brand of lecherous misgivings!!!;)
If you're still up Melanie, give me a whatever. The Sqn Ldr will be tucked up with cloves of garlic around her neck and the doors and windows boarded up securely!!:D
AJ, you sound busier than me!!!! ;)
sorry I missed you, was watching a film with the fam. You must feel relieved to have the paper out of the way! Do you carry the wee one in one of those adventure backpacks or just push in a stroller on the Promenade?! :)
Anna, sorry I disappeared, I got a call from a friend to go riding, and with the Sgt Mjr's ok, I got the horse loaded up and off I went!:) The weather has been too wonderful not be out! It's finally cooled off a bit!
Those women on that preg. blog, wow...they take the women's empowerment thing way too seriously...same on the pc word blog. Yikes! I may answer back on the preg blog...
Yes, I was trying to portray Jake as a swaggering but charming Texan with a hint of caveman! :) I was on as myself, later, but it was sort of an agree/disagree with you and that Jennifer? I agree about the need for the rules to keep the clods in line, but I don't want the 'pc thought patrol' people empowered any more than they already are...does that make sense??!!
...same as with the smoking ban, I don't like the extra 'rules' but it's good not to have to sit next to an inconsiderate smoker or in an over-smoky pub. Although smokers don't really bother me... I'll admit to joining him inside for a cigar on occasion ...petite one for me!! :) Most smokers I know are considerate! (I just don't like the extra rules!)...must be the Rebel coming out!! ;))
will talk with ya'll tomorra, I should be around in my a.m. :))
can ya'll handle another entry from your verbal friend?!
AJ, your glass of wine sounded so inviting, I scrounged up a bottle of Merlot, and am now enjoying a glass with a bit of chocolate at hand....aaahhh....paradise!! ;)
Peajay, what do you think of Anna's pagan 'galavanting'? I have to agree with AJ, she needs to be rescued!!! ;)
Anna, agree with you on the "yoghurt knitters"...I had to reply to them; there was one that was a bit hostile towards me!!
well, music is playing, I'm finishing up my glass of wine....until tomorrow!!! g'nite!
Hi Melanie
Sorry I missed you, had an evening off with a DVD, The DaVinci Code, not very Spuds & Cabbage for a good Catholic!! And not a patch on the book but enjoyable anyway.
I perused the Strawbear, it's the business of living on the Fens that does it!! :-P
And I thought Whittlesey was just a suburb of Peterborough!!!
Good morning peeps
I've had a comments fest - Duke of Edinburgh, whales, energy issue and kidnapped oil workers. I've gone mad, but although some of the comments are maybe too stupid, it might just be that some eejits will take them seriously!!:)
Better do some work:(
Before I go, please explain yoghurt knitters, I feel I should know but I don't.
Hi AJ,
Good to hear you hold the Royals in such high regard, anyone would think you have a soft spot for old Phil ;-)
Which batteries are best shop-own-brand or Duracell? ;-D
Hi Peajay,
Old Phil is a funny one, although I have no time for the Royal Family, I think the Duke has been worth his weight in gold. His consistant out-bursts have been priceless. My favourite has to be the opening of the Nissan factory in Newcastle: during his official walk round he came upon a junction box that was unfinished, with wires hanging out everywhere. Old Phil stated "it looks like the work of an Indian".
Great stuff
The battery idea came from my old mum!!!
My mother used to tell me these pearls of wisdom when I was a nipper and at that age you believe your parents implicitly. However, what is disturbing is that my mother was being serious!!!
ah, the 600th post.... ;)
