Winter Adventures!
Thought I'd add a bridge, as that's been a familiar topic of late...this one is in wonderful Manhattan, Central Park! Life is a Journey, and what can be said, than the best adventure is found, when accompanied by good friends! Earth Mother quote of the day: "People are disturbed not by things but by the view they take of them." Epictetus, c200AD

«Oldest ‹Older 801 – 1000 of 1024 Newer› Newest»That blog is now out of control and I reckon it will be closed down very soon!
It was going really well, then lots of weird posters started appearing! I like it when there's just 7 or 8 people having a laugh! Chances are that won't happen very often!:(
Sorry to hear about the Sgt Mjr, hope his back improves!:)
Hi AJ, you're right some weird posters...
His back hurts him a lot, then is better with moving, we just bought a better mattress etc so hopefully that will help...
It's hard to have 'fun' posting with him in the backround feeling "neglected"...I feel guilty...you know, not doing 'my job' well enough!!
sorry if too much, but par for the course with relationships, I suppose!!
AJ, any interesting adventures this weekend??
He's lucky to have his very own real nurse!!:)
Cheer up Melanie!!:)
I'm okay, saw him off to work, and am getting along with the day!!
thanks, I think I can be too hard on myself sometimes!! :))
Mrs AJ is working all weekend, so it's just me and the Mish Mash!!:)) Mrs AJ has been off the last two days with Mish Mash, so she's gonna be tired oot!! - nae chance of that!!:)))
You seem pretty well grounded and motivated to me, but sometimes your partner can test you!
I think I test Mrs AJ all the time!!:D
that age can run you ragged!!!
sorry no adventures!! ;)
I suppose it will be the same here...I'll be run ragged with the 12 hour shifts!! :( :))
looks like you'll be left to fend for yourself home and cyber!!!
oohh, wait, that didn't sound right??!!
I meant the age of MishMash, not the ogre!! ha!
no doubt it's mutual testing, AJ...we womin are no angels!!! Well, at least some of the time, we're not!! ;))
The Mish keeps me too busy to have a prolonged bout of cybering!!:)) However no doubt I'll grab a few minutes to see what's going on.
The important thing this weekend is to check out E-Bay - we've got a lot of junk to get rid of, might as well sell it!!:)) I've bought off e-bay before but never sold anything.
Oh Anna, HV Morton In Search of England - you will get it on e-bay for a couple of quid!
I didn't want to say that and get in trouble - Anna would give me a broadside!!:D
AJ, almost the end of your work week...whoo hoo!!
e-bay is a good way to get/getrid of stuff...I've done a bit of both
Yup I'm about to leave, I'll speak with you soon, but maybe not tonight. :))
Have a great day and take care Melanie:)
tend to your fam, AJ!!
will speak with ya soon!! :D
AJ ..... In Search of England in a first edition is worth literally £1000's. ;).... that's why I haven't managed to get it, yet!!
In Search of Scotland you can get in a charity shop for about 20p ... if your mum works there (which mine does!!), however, you get it for 10p.... staff discount :D
In Search of Ireland .... well its a pint of Guinness, a chaser of Jamesons and a nice plate of Colcannon and bacon! :))
I'm going to paste this on your blog as well..... wouldn't want you to miss it.... AJ :D
Hope you're OK .... Melanie.. you sounded a bit down in the dumps. I had a bit of a fall-out with Mr A today .... something and nothing .... we're back to normal now and friends again. :)
Maybe its the weather .... mind you, he does have a bit of a grumble, as well, now and again if I spend too much time on here... so I've given it a rest a bit this evening.
Take care - speak soon ...:))
This light-hearted video is a must-see!!! You can go to youtube, or this guy's site which includes excerpts from his travel journal
www.youtube.com
/watch?v=bNF_P281Uu4
wherethehellismatt.com
talk with ya later!!
Ps Anna, thanks, it worked out, and all is well!! :)
Very good Anna. Sometimes you're quite racist and I think Mr A should withdraw his sponsorship!!:D
AJ ... racist? I was joking, cherub, as you very well know! :DD
Actually, I got In Search of Scotland and Ireland in charity shops ..... and I'm in hope of finding the other one... I'm too tight to pay EBay prices for them!!
I pick up loads of books in charity shops .... including a few good first editions! Amazing what people sling out :))
Glad to hear things worked out Melanie!! :D
I thought the Scots were meant to be tight!!:D
I'll keep a look out for 'that book' for you!!:) I'm not a bad person, I would just rip the last page oot!!:D
Just looking over the posts about the strain on our relationships due to this caper - do you think being a cyber widow is grounds for divorce!!??:D
It would be an interesting reason in a divorce, right enough...
I suppose Mr A and Sgt Mjr are cyber-widowers .....
So, is it an Indian curry, then tonight AJ.... .we're having one ... can't decide between Lamb Madras or Prawn Dansak .. its been a while since I had a Dansak... they're the ones with lentils in .. quite spicy!! :))
We've got a DVD of that film Stormbreaker to watch as well.... nice family film :))
I watched Stigmata on the BBC last night ..... it was quite strange .. did you see it?
Remind me never to buy any odd rosaries on market stalls in Brazil.. I don't want to end up like the girl in the film. Mind you, she did get off with Gabriel Byrne in the end so it wasn't all bad :))
A quick good morning!!
AJ, cyber widow?? well,it's better than cyber shopping, just think all the money you're saving Mrs AJ by bantering instead of purchasing "good deals" on e-bay and the likes!! ;)
sounds like a plausible argument??!! :// ;D
Anna, at the seconds store, all I've seen are romance novels and old Nat. Geog magazines!! I must live in a culturally deprived area??!! :)
Anna, whooo! (I've not seen that movie!)
Missed that movie, too busy arguing with Mrs AJ about the circumstances surrounding the Goody girl!!:D If you read my one and only comment on the BB story, you'll see I've kind of changed my opinion!!:))
Stormbreaker - one of the guys I listen to a lot, provided a song for the movie _ Colin MacIntyre aka Mull Historical Society!
You're right, I'll be tucking into a curry tonight - just me though, Mrs AJ is away out with her boss in Edinburgh to discuss policy!! Drink champagne and ogle blokes more like!!:DD I feel secure though:))
Sounds like you have sorted Mr A oot!:D
Hi Melanie
Good morning to ya! I'm away oot with The Mish and the dugs, but I'll be back soon!:))
I'm away as well, AJ...have to work, will speak to ya your Sunday!
enjoy your time out!
Hi Melanie..... hope work goes OK .... more triplets? Are they all IVF btw?
You seem to get a lot?
Do you take Mish out in her buggy AJ, when you go with the dogs? I was lucky with KK ... he used to like sitting in his buggy .... so I didn't have too many problems with him trying to make breaks for freedom :)
Mr A is a sweetie .... its quid pro quo ... in this house most of the time.... he watches boring footie, cricket rugby, snooker, darts (!) and all that twaddle on TV ... and so that lets me get on here quite a lot.
However, if he speaks to me and I don't answer - because I'm writing stuff on here or reading it - he gets a bit upset ..... which is what happened yesterday! But it was just a domestic storm in a teacup! :D
She's happy at the moment in the buggy!!:) She likes watching the dogs bound about, but by this summer she'll be bounding about with them!!:)) Canny wait!!
She's having her mid afternoon snack - cheese and water biscuits, and hopefully she'll have a nap!! She hasn't had a nap today!!:( :)
Is KK interested in sport yet?
Have a good day at work Melanie :))
Red wine or white wine? What compliments an extemely hot Madras curry? I suppose 6 cans of Miller will suffice!!
I do actually like lager with curry .... but I usually have a nice girly shandy.... I find it more 'refreshing' ...:)
KK is not that interested in sport.... he goes swimming and plays things at school but that's about it. He's not interested in footie, either..... he does quite like cricket tho' ... playing not watching! :)
Eve again :D
On the Gordon Brown football blog:
She is on about if you trace your family tree back far enough you're probably related to everyone.
Some one asks her if she knows Adam.
This is her reply:
"Bonnie Laddie: ADAM Who?
I know of an Adam or two but they've never met me."
She really is priceless... poor thing, I shouldn't take the mick out of her.... I never do on the blogs anymore, its just not fair! I'm all heart :))
Eve is priceless, I loved the Monicay one!:D
Time yet for KK to ally with Mr A and hog the telly completely!!:))
Bless them ... they're watching Sponge Bob Square Pants at the moment :).. mind you we've got a couple of tellys around the house so I do OK :)
Just found this little gem from Eve on the Brown blog:
"244. StuYoung: YOU WHAT!!!!!
People who want Scotland to be independent are most certainly not lonneys. (As there not members of the Lonny party for a start)"
Phew, AJ ......... its official ... you're not a lonny!! :))
She is so funny and she has no idea ... bless her!!
Anna,
You've got to say that was a laugh -the Broon blog!
Too many Miller beers!
You were great btw!
Hello!!
Anna, usuall IVF, we're the only NICU/SCBU within I think 100 miles (sorry too much Baileys to calculate kms!!) If we get something that needs surgery or certain bad respir. complic it usually gets sent to UCLA Med Center, via ambulance or helicoptor
AJ, lager for me with the curry...what have you been up to?...somehow I feel there is a grin or a smirk lingering here on this board!! ;))
I think there's an "I'm innnocent" smile from a certain Leo as well!!...will have to read/search for the 'Broon' postings later!
no doubt you've been creative tonite!! :))
I think Peajay's under the weather...so send get well 'karma' her way!!! :D
talk with ya later!!
It could be Anna's never gonna speak to me again!!:)
I was in a really immature posting mood last night! I think it was the curry!!:)
How was your shift Melanie?
Hi AJ, I think all will be forgiven!! :)
my shift was none too bad, only long (as always)...I miss the 8 hr shifts, seemed easier on the fam, and easier on me!! :)
have another one today, but then off for a bit (the good side of 12 hr shifts)
Will speak with you your Monday!!
AJ.... thanks for the back up ... last night... JG is a bit of a sweetie as well :))
Maxie thinks I live in Millbank ... where is that? Should I be offended?
Somebody else weighed into him later on I see..:))
I think he was dumped by an English woman and now has a vendetta against all of them either that or he's just a numpty!! :D
Hope you're OK Peajay... I've been missing your posts :))
Good Morning,
To all my pals in cyberland. The beginning of a new week , but one which is filled full of hope for the future!
That's very philisophical of you AJ ... or is there a reason for it?
Any news for us? :))
Och, I jist feel good about this week Anna.
How about you?
btw Andy Murray is one set up and 3-1 in the second!!
I feel pretty good myself... AJ...
Is it snowing up there yet? I read one report that said we were going to get it tomorrow in East Anglia... but then another one said that East Anglia wasn't going to get any snow.
We'll have to wait and see .... like we normally do with the weather forecast.
Look out of the window and see what its doing before they write or broadcast it :))
As you know Leuchars has it's own Met Ctr and they haven't a clue!!
A little snow last night, but only lay on the high ground! I was hopeful for at least 6 inches last night and a day off!:))
Murray's injured!:(
Oh no .... is the match going to be rescheduled?
I watched the performance of Swan Lake on the goggle box yesterday, It was really lovely....... I love the music for that..... sheer escapism..:))
Swan Lake isn't really my thing, but I wouldn't knock it! The Arsenal / Man Utd game had the same effect for me!:)
Murray 2 - Nadal 2
Into the 5th set - epic encounter
I'm watching it on the telly, now.
Murray's looking weaker but he could still rally and serve up a game, set and match! :D
Whatever happens, he's raised his stock, once again!
I just wish he was my son!
I tell you what Nadal's grunting, groaning and yelping is getting on my nerves..... he's worse than one of the women players.
I don't think they should be allowed to make so much noise, when the ball is in play, it could put the opponent off and its annoying for the viewer.
Murray needs to pull something out of the bag tho' ..... he had 3 break points there and lost them.
His tea is oot Anna!!
Sounds like a great match tho'.
I think the long term plan is going well for Andy. He's proving he can live with the best! If only his Mum had sorted oot his lucky sweatbands!!:D
He played really well, it looked as if Nadal was saying that to him when they shook hands over the net.
We've not seen the best of Murray yet.. I think he's still got a long way to go and hopefully, pick up a few Grand Slams along the way!! :))
He saves the Saltires for Wimbledon ... they don't have the same effect anywhere else :D
Nadal certainly never got an easy time of it today, Murray made him work for it...:)
Good morning!!
Hi Melanie,
How are you doin' and what's your plans today?
I've been listening to tennis coverage, blogging and being busy at work! Who says men canny multi-task?
AJ, I am thoroughly impressed!!
I'm just getting going, here...not sure what the 'plans' are, save definitely for kiddie school
Are you posting anywhere on the Scotsman??? I've been watching bits on YouTube
so how's the tennis game going?
any snow yet?
recovered from your beer and curry nite?
any hints for your intuition on the good outlook for the week?
...hmm, must be the coffee kicking in! ;))
Beer and curry night was good, although the next day was a wee bit difficult - sair heid!!!:D
Andy Murray was beaten in the 5th set, but a great performance none the less!:)
Nae snaw yet, by I live in hope!
My upbeat view of the week continues...... for no specific reason!!:)
Wotcha teaching the bairns today? Maybe setting bear traps?!!?:D
Just the tennis story, Melanie
Also the American Iraq death toll on Saturday:((
Plus the Darien story in the UK section! Darien being the ill fated attempt at a Scottish colony in Panama! 1696
Believe it or not....the kid's history class covered the Darien story.
I've only peeked at some of the stories, I've been tidying up files, saving things, etc
it's the end of the mid-term, so we're having to finish up things, and prepare for any exams...thankfully the school and licensed teachers do all the work organising everything, or I would be lost!! :))
That IS amazing Melanie! I didn't find out about it until way after leaving school, and that was because of my own reading. Since 1996 there has been a lot more written about the events in Panama. It was one of the things that really helped accelerate my thirst for more knowledge of Scottish history.
We didn't get taught any Scottish history at school as it was deemed detrimental to the Union by the education authorities decades before!
That's why I like this program...they are very broad in the coverage, classical based...morally based (no religious doctrine/aka not preachy), open-minded (as in encouragaing the student to see from different perspectives, and form educated opinions)
that's sad about not being taught your own history; I hope that will/is changing!!
Very little history is taught at school nowadays.... it is way down on the curriculum ... which I think is very bad.
There are some huge gaps in history teaching and knowledge throughout the UK.....
Teenagers don't know what Trafalgar was or who Marie Antionette was, never mind about the Darien Scheme.
It has changed now Melanie, but there are generations that know very little. My father for instance, had no idea of Scottish history, apart from the usual events. Btw, Darien was a big deal, a very big deal, but obviously it was convenient to sweep the whole thing under the carpet.
John Prebble wrote a very good account of the events, and it was reprinted in the 90's.
Your kid's curriculum sounds very interesting and innovative. I like the sound of it!:))
I'm saying it has changed, but Anna is correct, history has lost its position within the curriculum in both England and Scotland! It's really sad and detrimental for society in the future!! At least, Scottish history is there if the kids want to study it!
Hopefully speak to you guys later, see ya for now!:))
bye AJ, sorry I missed you, kids were getting their assignments from the computer...talk with ya later
Hi all,
Seem to have missed you all for the last couple of days. Thankfully cold departing but cough hanging around. :/ Been having a few customer issues and our left-hand garden fence flew past last Thursday, so we've been having Murphy difficulties too. :(
Hi Peajay,
Fences and gates eh!,who'd av em!!:)
My fence is holding up since the last repair!!
You haven't missed much, just the odd cyber fight and killing!:))
My work has been encroaching on my postings. I can only manage about 40 comments per day at the moment!!:D
Hi all,
Got any snow yet? Its cold here but no sign of the white stuff yet.
I've blogged on the salvage story - liked your comment AJ... have you been reading Lorna Doone again? I can just see you on Leven beach with Mish in her buggy and the dugs next to you flashing your torch!!
Hope you don't get yourself arrested!!
Glad you're feeling better Peajay :)) KK is back at school this week... still a bit of a cough but much better than last week. :))
I saw you both on the salvage, as well as the wedding dress one, AJ. I posted last nite on the soap opera TV one...
Glad to hear the coughs and colds are on the mend!
I've also commented on the Canadian pig farmer serial killer story..... That is really gross - it was in the Times the other day and it said that he might have fed the bodies to the pigs and then the pigs entered the human food chain. I wouldn't like to be on the jury for that one :((
It's very cold and I think the snow is on the way!! Yippeeee!!
The pig farmer was certainly into recycling! He's certainly a top drawer serial killer - a bit like the guy who ate his neighbours in America and that Russian bloke!!
I work beside a girl who buys books by the dozen on that sort of stuff. I stay clear, she might want to put me on a kebab!!:))
Hi Melanie,
Nothing too outrageous today, but you may see a bit of verbal fisticuffs on the tennis blog between me and Pud from NY. That's my pal - he e-mailed me to say we have got to become enemies on the Scotsman boards!!:D So we'll see what that brings - so don't be alarmed when it kicks off!
btw his character is going to be an exremely bigotted Rangers supporter - he is the opposite in real life. Feel free to join in with his verbal execution!!
This might be an interesting little aside - as long as I don't get banned!!:D
Anna, I've stayed away from that one on purpose!! :(
I've commented back to you on the dress blog...AJ, Anna is baiting you!! watcha gonna do??!! ;)
AJ, your friend Pud is funny, you boys are naughty winding things up!
I'm off for a look at the Pud story....
Is that Sylvia Ann from Oz one of you lot? Who does she want a reply from?
Does she think its a dating agency.... mind you, I can understand why she might with AJ and Lanna billing and cooing at each other :D
You need to get Pud on an independence blog AJ...
Duncan (Its Time etc) will go ballistic at him... could be very entertaining!! :D
My pal William Wallace (the pretendy one) won't like him either but I'll calm him down with a few make up tips for his blue face.
That would be fun Anna, but I'll have to just 'sit' and watch on that one.
Too bad, Pud had to go??
AJ too, well, I suppose work does get in the way!!
Sylvia is nothing to do with me Anna.
She seems desperate for a chat - I volunteer Anna, although, how are you with those dreadful Australians!:D
Got to go soon, see you later folks!!:D
bye, AJ
Were you guys blogging elsewhere, and I missed it??
oh, I feel like poor SylviaAnn :(
:)
I thought you were billing and cooing. :))
Peajay, AJ was getting too riled up, so I had to cool the burners, and switch back to normal Calif American. :)
Anyway, his Pud friend hopefully will not sink the ship with any loose lips, about AJ's cyber gal pal...Mrs AJ may send a torpedo my way!! ;)
Of course, one could read here and interpret that AJ has a harem!!! ;D Whatcha have to say about that Anna!! ;)
So where else were you blogging, guys, I'm house bound with a cold Diesel engine for a few more hours yet...it's so much fun to read your banter, and oh , yes, the informative stuff! :D
ok AJ, you had to cut and run, and left me all worked up....no fair!!!;)) I'll have to sort you out later!
Well, must settle into the have to's for the day...Anna/Peajay will you be on later??
I'll be checking, as I should just have kid-school today
yesterday was a trip to the veterinarian to see to a goat vs dog incident. Our mastiff put the goat 'in his place' a little too forcefully...nothing major but he needed antibiotics and a salve for the wound, farm life??!! :/
did you see Sylvia's response on the Murray blog, kinda strange
Anna, the SgtMjr was called in on his day off :((
....I had bantering energy that needed to be used, and AJ, poor lad, was my target..
AJ, I'll have you know that Angus Mor is jealous of you ;)
Sylvia is very odd indeed...... does she think we're all ganging up on her or something?
All that British stuff as well... and liking Cliff Richard... its embarassing..... unless you're doing it for a laugh!
She'd better stay in Oz ... she doesn't seem to like Scots or Americans and she'd probably only call me a whinging Pom. Ah well, I've been called worse! :))
You've definitely got an admirer in Angus .. Melanie.... ah well, if AJ starts getting too pushy you've always got one in reserve!:D
I quite like William Wallace (the pretendy one) myself.... he makes me laugh!! :D
AJ ... You off out wreaking tonight? Or are you just getting wreaked? :D
Have to pop out shortly but will be back later. Sylvia cannot be serious about Cliff.
Goat v mastiff, wow life's exciting over there. Murphy's latest trick is to approach little, runty dogs and pee on them!! It's an alpha dog thing apparently, but incredibly embarrassing.
just in from my walk, my I had energy to burn....3hrs of blogging, left me spinning!
I laughed out loud with Angus' response to my telling him AJ knew what I looked like!! :)
but, I had to nip the other comment in the bud...banter can only go so far! I'll blame Angus and Dave's manners on their 'heighland' upbringing!! ;))
Anna, that Wm Wallace does have a thing for you! :)
Talk with ya later, Peajay!
Anna, AJ is as good as done, I've my cyber-sights set on him, and no other! :)
good one with the poem...I'll be posting less on the Scotsman for today/your tonite...have to set an example...if mom is blogging, kiddies will say, why can't we play!!! :D
Anna/Peajay, I made a quick comment of the dress and Murray blogs...AJ's friend was back and had one at Peajay..it was funny, 'cause I knew he was joshing!! :)
AJ, your friend is funny, did you tip him off, we knew??
Peajay, yes, beware the antics of the alpha male in all shapes and sizes!!! :))
There speaks a voice of experience. :)
Unfortunately Murphy is definitely that way inclined both in and out of the house. Although he has improved, he has a way to go yet.
Off to ma beid now, hope all ok with you, thanks for cute email.
G'nite Cousin Mel.
Peajay, I have gotten very little done today due to the absence of the SgtMjr reigning me in from blogging...while the cat's away...!! :)) The poor kiddies have had a bad example today!!
I suppose I was just 'venting' a bit...blogging is such a wonderful stress release!! ;)
Was hoping AJ would be back, then the 4 of us would 'have at it' here and on the blogs, oh well!! :))
g'nite Peajay! your welcome!
Sorry I couldn't make it back last night, I had a procession of stuff to sort out at home. It's true Mrs AJ works late on a Tuesday and I can normally post more - very observant of you, Melanie!!:))
Pud doesn't know about you guys - however I'm waiting for an e-mail, now Melanie has spilled the beans!!:D
btw, how is the Sgt Mjr's back?
Good morning!
AJ, I didn't spill the beans, but I did refer to you in my taunts towards Pud.
How are you? Saw you on the Lab post, I left an late night/early morning comment on that one
Good morning Melanie,
You mentioned that I knew what you looked like to Angus!!!!:)) That spooked him I reckon!!:))
It'll be interesting when Pud(Neil- really) gets back to me!
What was the Lab story Melanie?
btw, Anna was getting really cosy with Wallace!!!!:D
AJ, I was going to tease Anna, because sweet William coos to her (refers to her)even when she's not there!! ;D
I'm sure it left Angus spinning a bit, but it also allowed for you to have the upper hand here!!!
I had to say something, somebody said that I could be a fat truck driver that liked wee laddies (in reference to the article on theUS internet related shooting) :/ :)
The lab article with your wee scruffy black dogs....I mentioned how a brown lab we had, popped a hole in our water bed digging for her toy! 'twas not a pretty site!!! :((
Quite right Melanie, I didn't want people to think I was "getting it on" with a big fat, bearded American trucker - nae good fur ma image!!:D
I was being thick about the lab story!!!:D The water bed incident!!!:D
I mentioned wearing the white wedding dress, in trying to be funny about their comment.... I should have added, I have "Mother" tattooed on my forearm, and chew tobaccy!
but, I couldn't...way too much imagery there! I must uphold? my image!!
did you look at my tauntings to Pud on the Murray blog?? He'll probably think me crazy...oh, yeah, well...I do live in Calif ;))) just kiddin!
I read the reference to Tartan day, that'kll make him suspicious, maybe!
Haven't from him today - on e-mail, however he posted on the story about the new Scotland football manager, and is getting shot doon in flames. That is his objective though!!:D
I thought it might, but I also made references to two Irish pub/restaurants, so he also might assume I'm familiar with the goings on there.
seems posters are closing up shop early, is it the mid-week blues, or the hustle bustle of the get it done by closin time? ;)
Nothing contentious today Melanie! It won't be long before everyone is at each others throats!!:D
Hi all,
Late to posting today.. been out and about.
It snowed here this morning but its all gone now ... KK was thrilled and straight out in the garden once his clothes were on.
I've had a look at the lab blog ... and the English id one. Might try and comment later, but I've getting my hair done tonight so... bit busy :))
Rumour control ..... about me and William Wallace eh? Well, he did tell me, once, that he was over 6ft and a Wow with the lassies
so....... :D
He's probably a little fat man with delusions of grandeur!! Anyway, he's off to New York soon!
Anna, too funny! I do wonder sometimes what these people look like!!
The SgtMjr's work aquaintance from Stirling said the women get worse looking the farther north in Scotland you go!
So, where does that leave Barra and Stornoway, AJ?? Poor Dave and Angus!! ;))
PS. the comment about the women stemmed from my reading the Scotsm. article on the TV matchmaking reality show filmed in Stornoway.
(lest you think me catty!! ;))
AJ, you definitely need to get in on this one...is 2300 my time and it's already at post 13...it looks to be a fun one!!! just don't get banned!! ;)))
"Women come to the Fore! at the R&A"
Anna/Peajay, not ignoring you...it's just the story is from AJ's 'neck of the woods'
also check out: "school for space cadets" :D
nite! see ya in my a.m.
I'll check it out Melanie, but happy Burns Day to you all!!!
Happy Burns Night ..... AJ
Are you celebrating? What's for tea haggis, neeps, tatties and a wee dram or 2?
Got any snow? I see the country just about ground to a halt with the sprinkling we got yesterday. It makes you laugh .... ohmigod - its snowing ..in January .. how unexpected!! :D
I think Mrs AJ wants Fahitas tonight. So that's it decided!
Nae snaw unfortunately, but a heavy frost last night - had to scrape my car!!!:)) I suppose that in itself would be enough to stop you Southern softies from going to work!!?:)))
Any excuse for a day off down here!! :))
I saw you posting on the golf story .... I've put something on the RC gay story.... but I can't find anything else very interesting today.
Is your pal Pud winding anyone up on the boards?
Good morning!!
Hi Everyone,
Work is busy as hell and I'm having an IT nightmare at the mo. Can't get to the Scotsman at all this afternoon!!!:((
Haven't heard from Pud, but I've been unable to look!
How's ma wee Southern Belle this morning?
I'm mighty fine AJ!
Happy Burns Day to you, too! Do you enjoy the traditional festivities of it?? The American/Scottish groups go to town over this nite...I have yet to go to one
I answered the both of you on the golf blog
is Pud, Neil 9% growth party?
I thought that, but he denies being Neil 9%growth.
We do nothing Melanie - not even munching on a freshly caught haggis.
I do love Burns though! It was another thing that wasn't taught at school!!!:((
I've got to go soon, you have a nice day!:))
See you AJ...I have a feeling the Mish Mash will grow up knowing about Burns, though, and what a great country she lives in...daddies make great teachers!! :))

I like Burns as well..... but then I like a lot of poets.
We did Dylan Thomas in English lit - "Under Milk Wood" - which I didn't like that much. So, I never used to think that much of him... but then I read his "Rage, against the Dying of the Light" poem .... and I think that is brilliant.
Mind you.... I've 'discovered' far more poets since leaving school than the narrow confines of Lit taught us about.
For instance, some of the greatest authors weren't even touched upon. We never looked at Dickens, Austen or Hardy. But, we did Cider with Rose by Laurie Lee instead which I detested and of course, Shakespeare some of which I like very much now and a lot of George Orwell.... which was good.
I suppose there isn't the time for it all ......... :) there is so much of it!
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the links Melanie, I'll have to look at them this weekend as my 'work' computer won't run them!!:(
You're right about Mish Mash, I'll try and teach her about her surroundings and where she comes from!! She may run away or get social services involved because of extreme bouts of boredom, brought on by her Daddy!!:D
Anna,
Don't you start now!!!!:D
Poetry was something I really tried to avoid at school, until Wilfrd Owen etc. That changed the way I approached poetry - I'm sure that would be the same for lots of kids of our generation!(note how I included you in my generation!!:D).
Whotcha all upto this weekend? I've got an all day seminar at Uni about the Union - TC Smout and Ted Cowan amongst the speakers! My course starts soon and I was invited to attend, although it costs £25. Should be interesting though!!
Good morning! I have to work today...then Sat. I'm down the a friend's house near LA with Dr D to work on a science project thing. Sunday is hopefully free!!
Enjoy your class AJ!
Anna/AJ, I'm only now 'embracing' poetry as well! AJ, my kids roll their eyes at me when I try to 'pass on' culturally classic etc info....but since I'm not forcing feeding, I think in the end they appreciate it. My teen has actually told me this!
Just wanted to wish you all a good weekend!
Anna, you impress me with your reading repetoire, I must say!!
AJ, your seminar sounds very interesting, and worth the money!
Peajay, will talk with you soon!
Well, I'm 'tuckered' from a busy day at work...look forward to chatting with you all later! nite!
I love reading, Melanie, ..... Mr A calls me a word addict.... I get twitchy if I haven't got at least one (preferably two) books on the go!! :))
I also love poetry and find it a very relaxing thing to read. I've tried writing a bit of it and a few stories as well, ... but when I read the great poets and authors I realise mine are only rhymes and my storywriting has a long way to go! :(
Still, maybe one day my muse will come!!
I'm going to the cinema this afternoon with my mum and 2 sisters to see Miss Potter the film about Beatrix Potter with Renee Zellweiger... :)
Speak to you soon.
Hope the uni day out is good AJ... you'll be all fired up when you come out of that!! ;))
Hi guys, is this bad or what...I'm at my friend's house, she has the girls working on the science project and I run over to the internet to blog on the Scotsman (Scots women and increased alcohol use), as well as to say hello to you all here!!!
Hope your day/eve is/has gone well, can't wait to hear the good tidbits of the goings ons!!
talk with you soon!! :)
btb, it's my 'Egypt/Kite experiment' friend, so she is totally cool with letting me 'play' on the computer; I ain't bein rude! ;)
Hi Melanie,
How naughty is that!! It's a good job she knows you well ;).
My apologies for my subdued, morose frame of mind in the last couple of weeks, been having a real struggle with my worst ever customer and stuff in general. I pray she has now departed never to darken my door again (although she never paid me!!) :((
Thank you for your kind words.
Hi guys,
Sorry for my enforced absence.
My day was very interesting indeed - listening to the most emminent historians in Scotland, along with mixing with academics, who probably wondered why the bin man was hanging about the lecture theatre!!!:D
I don't know if you've come across the following Professors of History - T C Smout, Tom Devine, Edward Cowan and Christopher Whatley. More info can be found on http://www.dundee.ac.uk/history/UnionConference/
It was very enlightening and thought provoking. A lot of the conference dealt with educational issues in Scotland in the last 50 years, but the main speakers Cowan, Devine and Whatley dealt with the Union and how it's percieved here and abroad.
I have books written by all the above mentioned and it was a rare opportunity to see them in the same place at the same time. One of my lecturers said it was probably the most distinguished programme of speakers....ever!
Sorry to bore you.......leave the gun Melanie!!;))
On the downside - the lunch provided was shocking - watery soup and stale bread!! This was probably deliberate, to give the feel of early 18th century Scotland!!:DD
I hope you are all having a great weekend.
Peajay - cheer up, you'll soon be ripping the p*sh out of me on the Scotsman, which will be very therapeutic for you!!:))
Peajay, she never payed you??? Is that tacky or what!! I suppose there's really no recourse unless withholding the merchandise, but then it's best just to be rid of her!!
Anna, keep up with the writing, you never know when the muse might descend!! How was the movie?
AJ, I had a laugh at your description of lunch and the historical portrayal!
What was the overall opinion with the argument to continue or not to continue the Union? Surely the split would have to be amicable...with mutual support and respect to make it work.
AJ, you're not boring at all...in fact I was reading/commenting on the Dundee Space School article (the space cadets one). I think Education (as well as parental involvement) is the one of the major keys to helping 'todays youth become tomorrow's leaders' etc.
The historical component is a must because again, sorry another boring philosophical notation...'embracing and understanding our heritage/past, knowing where we've been...will help us to embrace the now, and plan/head towards the future more confidently'
Unfortunately, I've not heard those names...I will check out the site
AJ, the only gun aimed in your direction is a water pistol, which I Will squirt at you if you label yourself as the bin man, again! ;))
For all they knew, you could've been some low key rich dude hanging out for some intellectual stimulation. It's been known to happen! :))
talk with ya'll later!! :D
Another late nite, free time, no TV...kids broke the connector thingy to the satellite (connecting and unhooking their video games)...guess who's saving up their money for a new TV?? :/
Meanwhile.... ;)
americans vs. the irish..a must see! :) ya gotta luv the humour!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52HFvnn79cE
Sounded a very interesting seminar AJ...... get you...... our intellectual cyber pal... :))
The film was very good .. I enjoyed it which surprised me a bit because I don't really like Rennee Zellweger very much ... but she was good. Ewen McGregor was in it as well ... which was was nice :), but he died ... so that was sad :(
Then we went and got some fish and chips and went back to my Mum's for a natter :D It is nice to have a get together sans hubbies and children every so often :)
Melanie, you're as bad as me with the techno thing ... "the thingy is broken" ... I'm the same ... "oh just wait for Dad to get back, he'll have a look at it!!".
It was quite a challenge sometimes, when Mr A was away on detachment and one of the thingies went wrong! TWice the lawn mower thingy blew up on me ... . it even started to smoke once!! I put it back in the shed and borrowed my sisters.... until Mr A got back from wherever :)
Peajay, sounds like you had a horrible time... can't you get the money out of her or do you just want to wash your hands of the whole thing?
I have taken it as a learning experience and waved goodbye to the money and hopefully the woman. Unfortunately she is a friend of a friend which makes things a little strained. My friends wedding is due in a month, I can see it will be a difficult day.
What about that AJ eh! Mixing with the elite, they probably thought he was Bob Gelfof's smarter Scottish relative!! :D
I think you are all quite lucky to have someone who could be able to identify that broken 'thingy' and possibly fix it. In our house the males have been next to useless and any power tools are manipulated by the womenfolk. The same applies to decorating. :/
Peajay,
Sounds like it could be one of those weddings you read about! Actually in many parts of the UK, a punch up at a wedding is par for the course!!!:D
AJ ..... see you're having a run-in with an Aussie on that SNP blog!
Liked the way he mentioned the cricket .... thought you would have pointed out that the Scots always support the Aussies when they're playing England tho' :))
How are you anyway? Did you have a good weekend?
Hi Anna,
I'm fine and just easing myself into the working week ;))!
How about you?
I don't know why these Aussie's are taking this stance - maybe they're on a wind up mission!! I'm not really the person to complain if they are!!:D
How's KK and Mr A, did you have a good weekend?
We're all fine and the weekend was good :))
KK went to a fancy-dress party on Sat ... as a pirate ..he had a great time. :D
I've got to go to work in a minute .. so will catch up on your PR chat with the Aussies later :)..
The 'Shelia' Lisa has replied to you btw :))
The Sheila, has no sense of humour. She accusing me of being racist and sexist!!! She may well have a point:D
Another pirate!!:D
I'll speak with you soon :)
Looks like you managed to charm the 'Shelia' Lisa in the end...
You have a winning way with the female posters that's for sure!!
Funnily enough when she put Perth I assumed she meant Scotland.. did you think she meant W.Oz?
Did you ever get to W. Oz when you were there? I always think it looks really nice in the adverts!!
Good morning!!
I have a bit of a lie in and I find AJ's busy charming a 'Shiela'
Well!... ;))
I made a quick comment on the casino blog, but I see Horrible is back!
Which one is the SNP, haven't found it.
I commented on the Lucky Duck one last nite.
Anna, that was quite a short work day!! ;)
Good morning Melanie,
There's nothing in it, I just didn't like upsetting someone who had got the wrong end of my stick!!!;)) You're the only cyber crumpet for me!:D
Anna,
I thought she was an Perth Oz person, because of the raging debate about Australia!!:)) No I didn't make it to the west, but perhaps next time!!:))
btw, I thought my initial post was inoffensive and would have been possibly interesting to non Scots!!
The SNP is actually the Scotsman roadshow blog about the Western Islands!
Ok, but I still only see the GlasVegas...baybe I should get some coffee...was up late with teen homework help!!
Ah, AJ, I shouldn't have worried! ;))x
Yes .. not bad for a Monday, Melanie... only 2 and a half hours!! Nice work if you can get it!! :D
I've probably caused maximum offence to the Aussies now with my comment on that board!
Well, they shouldn't be so triumphant about the cricket ... we know we got well & truly thrashed but ... they do like to rub it in :)) B***dy Dingos!!
Yes, sorry Melanie its not the SNP blog its the one about the Scotsman roadshow thing... under Politics. :)
Cyber Crumpet ... AJ ... you sound like Benny Hill or Dick Emery!! :D
Thanks Anna, I don't think I would have seen that otherwise, there are so many little 'nooks and crannies'!
I'm surprised you haven't added some silliness to the Lucky Duck story....
soft putty, Corbett?? ;)
Where's the Lucky Duck story?
Is that the Glasvegas one?
in the International section listed directly under the UK template thingy
Got to go, just when it's getting a bit fruity too!!
AJ, maybe the Mrs won't mind you playing later, if not, then we can pick up tomorrow...
...as always, it's been a pleasure, sir! ;))
HI guys, I'm around, but if I don't answer back on occasion, it's because the SgtMjr is in the room, and I'm supposed to be helping him proofread/edit a paper he's working on... :)
Hi Melanie
Proof reading - an enjoyment or a trial? :)
Yes!!! Actually, the Sgt Mjr was asked by a friend to proofread a manuscript then help develop a study guide...of course I was wrangled into it! It's along his fortay of pscyhosocial adventure risktaker people. It's nothing 'whazoo' mind you, I'm not tooting horns here!!
that was yes, to both enjoyment and trial...sorry, I was multi-tasking
Isn't it good that he has you!!
Oh, yes, what would he ever dooo with out me??!! ;)
... hmmm, let's see, he wouldn't have any one to get after him to put the bin up on the street for pick-up, he'd be out playin pool with the fellas every nite, and he wouldn't have me to spend his money!! ;)
Exactly, he'd be boozing, schmoozing, feckless and slightly grubby but perhaps more affluent! I think he cut a good deal. :)
Puggy = slot machine
:DD
Well, Mr T. W. certainly sounded like an agitated schoolmaster on the Gvegas board!!! :))
will speak with you all tomorrow!!
I had to reply to Wingate on the Glasvegas blog!! I hope he reads it!!:D
He seems to object to the personal nature of our posts!!:))
Saw you on the rugger blog .... AJ...
I've passed on your tips about knobbling and kicking in the baws to Jonny and the boys at Twickers!!
Maybe they'll put them into operation if Scotland won't!! :D
They don't like my crude tactics!!
I suspect the Kiwis, Wallabies and Springboks write the maiming of the opposition into their coaching manuals as an essential ploy!
These uppercrust rugger types don't like anything outside the rules!! That's why they're a bunch of losers!!:D
What do you think Anna?
You're right about the southern hemisphere guys.... AJ.. they seem to play rough.
KK and Mr A have got their England shirts ready for the match. KK looks really cute in his!! :))
Only problem is the shirts are white and a pain in the ass to wash.... especially when KK is rugby tackling the dog out the back!! :))
I think England should change to red shirts ... hide the dirt better!! :))
Funny thing about rugby tho'... its a rough game but the guys that play it are usually from middle class + backgrounds!
Rugby = a game for louts played by gentlemen.
Football = a game for gentlemen played by louts. :D
Red shirts would hide the blood;)
It's a class game up here too. Apart from the borders, where it's the grass roots sport! Most of Scotlands best players used to come from the borders! The rest of Scotland have little sporadic out posts of rugby - mainly market towns in rural areas! In the cities the clubs are built around the private school system.
So it's mainly Hooray Henrys and tractor drivers!!:D
Nearly all of my Scottish relatives live in the borders and they are all mad keen on rugby. They vary between supporting Melrose and Gala... but they all support Scotland.
We got a lot of stick last year when England lost at Murrayfield... but we've given them a bit of stick in the past so... it all evens itself out!!...
My cousin's boy plays really well .. but he keeps dislocating his shoulder so.. I don't know how long or to what level he'll be able to get to.
He supports Scotland but his rugby hero is Jonny Wilkinson! :))
The local high school here does play rugby ..... but it is definitely once of those games that is played at all the big public schools... like Rugby (!), Eton, Harrow etc etc.....
It's a great game, if not overly complicated!
It doesn't even itself out Anna - Scotland only win a match against England every ten years or so!!:D
It really is a game for the toffs in Fife, although the Cupar High School(Bell Baxter) won the recent Scottish Schools Championship! Very rarely does an ordinary comprehensive win that. Cupar is a market toon in North East Fife(the posh bit)!!:D
Well, you never know ... Scotland could stun everyone and win at Twickenham this weekend.
England haven't been playing very well lately and fab as Jonny is/was..... he is still very prone to injury and has been out of the England shirt for 3 years.
That really will set the Scotsman alight .... if Scotland win down here... they'll be dancing in Trafalgar Square all week!! :))
If that does happen my emails will be red-hot... and I will no doubt receive a few cards etc in the post... from the gloating Scottish pack!!:)
When, KK was born my cousin sent me a Scottish rugby shirt for him... Mr A said "thanks for the shirt, we'll keep it for washing the car" !! :D
He could have said something a lot worse!!:D
No chance of Scotland winning - England could succomb to almost any nation, but not Scotland on this occasion!:(
Anyway Anna, remember not to salivate on the carpet when the action starts!!:D
No.. I'll try to restrain myself.. AJ :))
Mr A will watch it but he thinks the home nations are a bit boring to watch!!
They don't play good running rugby and he doesn't think they're very entertaining! :(
That's probably why we usually get stuffed by the big 3 (Oz, NZ, SA)
Your friend Pud is on the Jonny Wilkinson blog .... trying to stir things up a bit!! :))
I agree with Mr A. it seems to be strewn with nothing but mistakes and half the time the players don't seem to know the rules and give away needless penalties!! It's not the greatest spectacle - probably the best bit about the whole experience, is the friendly-ish banter, between the supporters!:))
Ask Mr A if he agrees about targeting players like Jonny Wilks?
Pud is attempting to drag the Rugby fraternity into the squalid world of sectarianism!!:D
Ah, leave poor Jonny alone.. the man has just got over all his injuries....
He has had a lot tho' hasn't he? You have to ask yourself if he's in the wrong job?
I think after pocketing the first few million - the answer to that, is no!!!
There's not many takers on the Pud - AJ sectarian thing. Now, if that had been a football blog ... you'd have both been getting a right mauling!!
It's disappointing, but I'll live to fight another day!!:))
Are you working or just lazing about the house drinking gin?;))
I was working this morning... I'm lazing about now!! :))
Haven't got to the gin yet... too busy knocking back the sherry .. you know us bored housewives... watching Trisha all day in our dressing gowns etc, etc !! :))
I came on here this afternoon to do some college work but that's fallen by the wayside ... I'll have to get on with it soon tho' :(
Good morning! will have to catch up...have been up since 0600 finishing algebra exam stuff with teen :/ Then I had a quick post to write for the murder cult blog
how are you all!!!???
Rugby??!! :D I like the gentlemen/lout analogy!!
where are you posting!?!
Morning Melanie,
Nothing really going on today - just the rugby story!
You've had a busy old morning already.
Anna,
What a life - a quick run around before Mr A gets in, and you can complain about being worn out by the domestic responsibility!! :D
Morning Melanie :)
I've only posted on the Highland hospitality story in the UK news. AJ and Pud have been causing trouble on the Wilkinson Rugby story on the Sports pages.
England and Scotland are meeting at Twickenham, England this weekend in the Calcutta Cup which is a Rugby match... and is also the start of the 6 Nations which is an annual tournament between England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Italy and France.
England's hero Jonny Wilkinson who scored the winning drop kick in the Rugby World Cup has just been declared fit enough to play.... so we'll see what happens!! :))
What's the title, AJ...rugby one
found it, the lady will refrain from posing, though!!
Will have a look at the other blog, Anna
oops, that should have said posTing!!! :// ;)
Well, it seems things are winding down...I did answer you on the Glasvegas post, AJ
I probably won't be around for your eve to chat, (have afternoon appts.) but will try to leave a hello before I go to work tomorrow!!
I don't want you to stop posing:DD
I've replied to you on the Glasvegas blog!!!
answered you back the minutes are ticking, till your free from your desk!!!
Got to go, have a nice day Mel:))
bye! :D
Anna, wondered why you were quiet then I saw that you've got your 'homework' to attend to.
Rugby is a favorite...I'm familiar with the 6 Nations, and wish it were broadcast here...I think I can get it special for a 'modest' sign up fee, or course!! I missed out on going to a big match in LA last year! :(
At uni, I was working in the athletic dept as medical support (eg taping ears, thumbs, ankles) and was assigned to the men's rugby team...absolutely loved it!!! I traveled with them, and honestly, they were always polite and looking out/after me wherever we went!
There's a youth league started here, that my friend's boys play in so I get to hang out with her and watch on occasion. My tween prefers fitba only, which is fine...hopefully less worry for dislocated shooders! ;)
Well, I'm off for the day's errands, will check back if anyone's around...but will probably be spending most of the afternoon/eve with the SgtMjr, as it's our anniversary!! We weren't able to go away as planned, which is why we might try to get away a bit to Vegas in Feb.
as always, wishing you a nice eve!
Ps. ya'll are jest too kind with my lack of knowledge/lack of remembering of some of ya'lls way of sayin things!!! :D
Congratulations on your anniversary - Melanie.... Hope you and Sgt Mjr have a lovely evening...
How many years? 20? Its 20 for us this year in May :))
Doesn't matter what you do as long as you do it together ... that's the main thing :))
Btw: AJ... Mr A agrees with you about the targetting ... he says the 'down under' teams wouldn't hesitate to target him or any of the other really good players...
Thanks! It is 19yrs married, 22 total together...and we've got the battlescars to prove it! :D
will say hello in my morn!! and see what you've been up to!! :)
Good Morning Cyberchums,
Can't get on the Scotsman properly today - are you guys experiencing problems, or is it just me! I posted a comment on the Cash for Peerages story and haven't been able to access a board eversince!!
Shouldn't have mentioned Cherie Blair's thrush problem!!:))
Jings, we're nearly
at
the
1000!!
Childish behaviour!!?? But you wouldn't expect anything else!!
Hope the Mish takes after her Mum!!:D
