Winter Adventures!

Thought I'd add a bridge, as that's been a familiar topic of late...this one is in wonderful Manhattan, Central Park! Life is a Journey, and what can be said, than the best adventure is found, when accompanied by good friends! Earth Mother quote of the day: "People are disturbed not by things but by the view they take of them." Epictetus, c200AD

Anna, the balloon guy is a spoil sport...I thought it was funny, and bravo for saying it!!

Congrats on the 600!! Anna!

AJ, have you gotten busy or given up on us gals for the day!!??!! ;( :))

Peajay said...

Hi all
I helped out with the awful puns at the porpoise post Anna. In fact I may well have gone overboard. :))

Anonymous said...

Peajay, I saw you there...but didna have the energy to get involved, ...SgtMjr asked for the house interior to be reassembled...we still had Xmas/holiday stuff around, plus regular duties, etc

Anonymous said...

Good morning...have to work Thurs, wanted to say hi in case I'm running late my morn
...will speak to you all later!!

ciao!! :))

AJ Fife said...

Porpoise story was good, it's a pity it's FIN-ished!!:((

anna said...

Yeah,.... I wished I'd thought to ask balloon boy if he was full of hot air.... :D

Is it windy up your way.. AJ? Its really windy here... and my car has had to go in for a MOT ... so I've had to walk today..:(

Still, I suppose the exercise .. battling against the wind is good for me ... might get rid of some of the Xmas choccies ;)

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna,

I battled against the wind too, but it was more to do with brussel sprouts!!

It is very windy though, and our Xmas tree which was put out for collection today, disappeared,ie not picked up by the bin men. Couldn't see where it ended up.....oh well!!!:))

AJ Fife said...

So Anna, are you like me and get paid to blog all day!!??

anna said...

I can, occasionally, get away with it ... yes AJ :)) but, I'll need to get on with some workstuff today.:(

anna said...

Your tree is probably on its way back to Norway.... returning to it's roots :D

Sorry bit bad I know :))

AJ Fife said...

Classic Anna, I was pining for you to tell a joke and you twigged what I was after. That one really sapped my energy.......and so on!:D

anna said...

Groan.. :)

You'll need to get yourself spruced up fir your weekend away.

Enough tree jokes?

AJ Fife said...

Yes, enough, otherwise we'll be BARK-ing at the moon!!:))

That's it.....no more!!:))

Anonymous said...

oooh, who's had tooo much caffeine This morning!!! or should I say, you're all acting ca-fiend-ish!

AJ, if I should miss you before your flight out, have a great weekend and happy anniversary to you (and Mrs AJ)!! :D

AJ Fife said...

Thanks Melanie, you're jist a wee smasher!!:))

anna said...

She's a poplar gal that Melanie :))

Sorry another bad tree joke!

anna said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
AJ Fife said...

Oaky cokey, please stop the tree jokes, they're a bit wooden. Try and branch out a bit and turn over a new leaf!!

What's with the deleted message - was it too rude, or just another bad tree joke!!:D

anna said...

No ... I posted the bad tree joke twice.... I thought once was enough for anyone!! :))

I'll be turning over a new leaf, now and stop dragging out these old chestnuts! Should I log off do you think?

They're getting desperate now aren't they?

anna said...

I've had a post on the British moon project blog... but only because that Scottweb bloke is on there going on about conspriracy theories ... again.

He's obsessed with them .. always going on about Fluoride and stuff. I bet he thinks the Royal Family are really big lizards... mind you that one could be true :))

AJ Fife said...

Yes Anna, I think you're lumbering on a bit. Just CUT it out!!:))

Scottweb has access to lots of websites/videos. How does he manage it!!?? He must have a job like us!!:D

I like the idea that the Queen is a giant lizard, but surely she would've laid eggs. Big Lugs Charlie doesn't look like he could punch his way out of a paper bag, nevermind a tough eggshell!! Mind you, they managed to keep things quiet in the 40's and 50's.

After a bit of consideration, I think the Royal Family are real!!:D

anna said...

Yeah, I hear what you're saying... but they've got a strange, reptilian look behind the eyes and I'm sure at least one of them has a forked tounge...:D

This must be how these things get started..

anna said...

Have you ever looked at one of his videos btw?

I've been tempted but I haven't just in case they're too strange or they're attached to loads of viruses. :(

AJ Fife said...

I did once, but the quality was terrible and it was going to last for ages. Something to do with the American's causing 9/11!!

Even as mad as I am, I could never buy into that theory!!:)

anna said...

No I agree with you there ... the 9/11 thing is ridiculous ... I think most of them are altho' the JFK one might be true.

Facetious ... using long words on the Scotsman now.. Show Off .... I'm impressed.:)

AJ Fife said...

Got to go Anna, but I mentioned the Royal Reptile thing as well!!:D

Facetious - one of only three words in the dictionary to have all the vowels in the correct order!!

Abstemious is one, but I can't remember the third!!:(

See ya!!

Peajay said...

Have a fabulous weekend AJ and happy anniversary to you and Mrs AJ. (I still can't believe she's agreed to the footers, she must have a cunning plan!!) :/

anna said...

I never realised that about the vowels ... very clever :))

We'll have to try and think what the other one is ...

Peajay you're the one with the brains and long uni words ... any ideas?

Have a great weekend AJ... and don't get carried away buying too many Prada handbags or Gucci stillettos ... you know you'll never wear them all!! :D

Peajay said...

Hi Anna
The three most common words which contain all the vowels in the right order are facetious, abstemious ansd arsenious. There are however, approx 30 examples.

I posted the clock and site meter info, hope it helps. :))

Anonymous said...

good morning/afternoon!!

Anna/Peajay will you be around today/Sun...I have to work Sat

I miss the Scotsman posting banter, it seems ages since I've been able to join in on one with you all, ah well!! :(( :))

anna said...

Hi Melanie,

Peajay has been instructing me on how to put a clock and a site counter on my blog .... her instructions are brilliant ... even blogger simpleton like me managed to do it:))

Yes, it does seem a while since you've posted on the Scotsman. Are you working today?

Anonymous said...

Anna, I've had trouble getting onto the blogs, comments...

I saw your site meter/clock...fantastic, and it's by the lighthouse, too!! ;)))

Thanks for your compliment to the SgtMjr/TB. He is a great guy!; he's deep, yes...but with purpose, you could say...he applies what he's thinking on, esp in the realm of working with at-risk youth. He's also handy to have about, as he can philosophise while he's building an addition onto the house!!! :D

Our anniv is at the end of this month...hard to believe I've been with this man half my life!! Time flies!! We've always been good/best friends, even with the ups and downs of relationship;...my love and respect for him have grown and is the best now, more than ever!! :)) (ok, enough mush!!)

I don't have to work today, but have a music lesson for Dr D at my 1100

Have you been posting anywhere??

anna said...

I posted on the David Beckham blog.... but that's all.

Its great that you and Sgt Mgr (TB) have such a good relationship - I sensed that you did :))

Yes its our 20th anniversary in May... time flies - some of it seems like yesterday.

What kind of instrument is Dr D learning to play?

Peajay said...

Well managed Anna with both add-ins to your blog, you did really well.

Anonymous said...

Dr D is learning the violin/fiddle...mix of classical, Scots/Irish folk, Bluegrass and Zydeco (Lousiana Cajun style).

Isn't it insane the money they pay these sports/entertainmt people...I was reading with amusement, some of the comments; LA does have good weather, but I'm not sure it's worth putting up with the rest of it!! :))

Have a great Saturday!! I should be around Sunday, will check in with ya'll!! :D

Anonymous said...

Hello!

Looks like a busy weekend for all! :))

I have to work again Monday... hopefully Tuesday will be a better chat day

Anna, do you have class again Tues?

Peajay said...

Hi all,
seem to have missed you, it's been one of those days.
Hope all ok.

Melanie said...

Hi Peajay, hopefully all is better!! will talk soon! :)

Anonymous said...

Hi all

Sorry, I didn't make it on here at the weekend... we had a busy one. The Straw Bear festival was on this weekend so we were celebrating ..... our pagan ancestors!!! :D With lots of beer .... Mr A celebrated way too much ... .and suffered for it on Sunday!! :))

I'll post some pictures on my blog when I get a minute..

Hopefully, catch up with you all this week..:)

Dr D ... would have enjoyed herself with her violin/fiddle this weekend .. there were loads of folk bands with fiddles, meleodeons, drums, rattly things, tambourines, penny whistles, flutes.. it was great and despite the mixture of instruments .. very musical and toe-tapping ;)

There was an Appalachian dance side there this year .. they were very good and very friendly.

anna said...

The Scottish bus driver was giving a tour of Scotland to a group of tourists. The tour went through the countryside and the driver would point out sights of interest. He drove by this one area and said, "Over there is where the Scottish PULVERIZED the English." They drove on a little further and the driver pointed to another area along the roadway and said, "This is the place where the Scottish MASSACRED the English." Not much further down the road the driver told his passengers that on the right was the great battlefield where the Scottish WHIPPED the English.
About that time a man on the bus, with a stiff English accent, said, "My good man, didn't the English win any battles around here"? "Not when I'm driving the bus" was the response.

:D

Melanie said...

Very good, Anna!!! No doubt the pagan festivities have loosened the normal English reserve!!??!! ;)))

Okay, did I tell this one already??

What are the three shortest books in the world??:

1. A book on Italian war heroes
2. An English cookbook
3. A book on American culture!!

ooh, ouch??!! :D

Will check in with ya'll in my morn!!

Shrek, we're awaiting your report in ??!!!!!

AJ Fife said...

Shrek is back in town!!

The trip was a success - hotel was very good, people were very nice,Last Supper was very nice, football was very nice, food was very nice, but Mrs AJ thought the city was just a wee bit too manky for her liking.

I have to admit, the city was very dirty, especially with dog fouling. The Italians are dog lovers but don't bother cleaning up after them!!:(( Which meant walking in a straight line was impossible!!

The people are certainly the smartest and best looking in Europe(in my opinion). There seems to be a lot of competition amongst the inhabitants. Curiously, the place is full of pattiseries, but I didn't see anyone overweight, apart from my own reflection!!:D

Overall, the trip was good, but not as good as Berlin or Barcelona!! However that's a wee bit unfair on Milan, as those cities are Premier League standard!!

Hope you are all well, I noticed Peajay blew apart my claim about the three words/vowel thing. I was sold duff information, for that, I apologise!!:)

anna said...

Melanie, naughty, naughty and you've never even tasted my cooking ..... on second thoughts that would probably only confirm things :D

AJ... I don't think the Italians are in the same league when it comes to cleanliness as the Germans are .... their cities are very, very clean. I think all the little Dachshunds clean up their own pooh :))

Glad you enjoyed yourselves ..... despite the doggy doo doo!! As long as you didn't get your Gucci high heels stuck in something nasty .. hell of a job to clean them ;)

Impressions of the Last Supper .... male or female? Or couldn't you get close enough to it?

AJ Fife said...

John is a wumin!! Nae arguments! 100% sacred feminine!

Seriously, we were only 15ft or so away and it was clear as day, this was a painting of a woman. Like Dan Brown states, the body posture of Big J and John, would make you think they were a couple!!

As you say this was painted 1500 years after the supposed event and Da Vinci maybe thought it would be a good laugh to throw this into the mix!!:)

What was amazing, is how the work of art survived Allied bombing during WW2. It was open to the elements after one raid!!

Didn't get to see the lamp post they used to string up Il Duce and his woman!!

How was the 'burning'?

anna said...

The burning was excellent.... the man inside the big bear was the guy who runs the local garage and he is also the father of KK's teacher. Just hope he got out in time..... don't want to have to take the car somewhere else or it to have an adverse effect on KK's education ;)

Some of the dance sides were brilliant.... the costumes are amazing.

There were a lot of visitors from all over the place .... it seems to attract more every year. The pubs were doing a roaring trade.... I think Mr A managed to get round most of them.... I left him to it :)

Da Vinci's apostle definitely, looks like a woman to me too! As you say, maybe he was 'aving a laff!! :D

AJ Fife said...

Mr A seems a guy after my own heart - any excuse to have a wee celebration, and what better than a bear/garage proprietor burning!!!:)) Do you think the founding fathers of your village were mayan Indians!!??

Have you been to see the new Mel Gibson film yet?

anna said...

No, I've not seen the film yet.. but it looks very good and has had good write-ups in the press.

Have you seen it yet? Is it all subtitles?

You could be right about the Mayan/Pagan influence round here... they say that there are still Fen Tigers round these parts :))

All, I can say is that I wouldn't go wandering in the fens in the dark......(you might fall in a ditch for a start!!)..:D

AJ Fife said...

The UK section has a story on what women keep in their handbags! What do you guys keep in yours? I want the truth now! ;))

AJ Fife said...

Hope to see it in the next week or two! I think it must be subtitles.

Fen Tigers!?! Are they a Cambridgeshire seperation movement!!:D

anna said...

A Fen Tiger is a person born in the approximate area enclosed by a line starting at Wigginhall St Mary Magdalen, River Ouse to Denver Sluice, New Bedford or Hundred Foot River to Earith, Bluntisham, Warboys, Yaxley, Whittlesey, Thorney, Tydd St Giles, and back to Wigginhall St Mary Magdalen.

So although I live in the area mentioned .... I don't qualify as a Fen Tiger... not having been born here.... KK is one tho':))

Handbags? I haven't got that far I've posted on the second union blog tho'...... I'll check out the handbag story.

Mine contains: purse, keys, mobile, lipstick, pens, driving licence, work and college passes and a few strange things lurking in the bottom :))

How about yours AJ?

AJ Fife said...

I use a sporran, thank you very much!! :))

It's the unusual items, I'm interested in, Anna!!! ;)

AJ Fife said...

Warboys - Mrs Warboys?!? One Foot in the Grave

Magdalene St Mary's - Holy Grail?!? Da Vinci Code

Spooky....very......spooky!

anna said...

Yeah .... there are some very odd names round here .... come to think of it.

Actually, England does seem to have some wierd names.... most of the meanings of which are lost in the mists of time .. I suppose.

Whittlesey in the old spelling is Whittlesea... and basically it got the name because it was at one time surrounded by sea. It was one of the Fen islands...most of the places where there are towns/villages were surrounded by water before the Fens were drained.

anna said...

AJ .... you've had a reply to your comment about your destiny ... or whatever it was that you said....

Nice soundbite tho' :D

AJ Fife said...

Thanks Anna, I've replied to your cheap shot about Guy Fawkes!!:D

anna said...

Yeah, I saw your reply .... so I've embellished mine a bit....:))

JG .... sneaked in there with the 200 tho' didn't he?

I found that quote about Guy Fawkes on a Scottish website btw!!

anna said...

I've made a comment on the handbag blog...

Liked your comments btw.... rude but funny :D

anna said...

"I found that quote about Guy Fawkes on a Scottish website btw!!"

I really do need to get out more!!

Anonymous said...

good morning, sorry...one moment 0600, the next moment almost 0800, maybe I need to set an alarmclock?! :)

Welcome back AJ!

anna said...

Hi Melanie,

AJ is fulfilling his destiny on the handbag blog........ ooh sorry, I mean the independence one of course!!

Natural mistake AJ? :D

What do you keep in your sporran anyway........ or do I not want to know ... maybe I should just keep the fantasy alive and not know the truth!! :D

Lie in ... Melanie... it throws you out when you sleep through the alarm .. you seem to be running to catch up all day then.

AJ Fife said...

Hi Melanie,

I've missed your cheerful banter and look forward to catching up with you!!:))

I've posted some of my early thoughts on Milan for your perusal!!

Anonymous said...

Ever since the holidays, my sleep schedule has been 'out of whack'..you're right about feeling like your catching up all day

....I saw AJ on the handbag blog...hmmm ;)

Anonymous said...

okay, will have a look AJ!

Anna, I might pass on the brussel sprouts but never on your curry!! ;)

Anonymous said...

well, they definitey need to hire a city 'doggie pooper scooper'!! yech! (do you know, I remember parts of the city block of Barcelona smelling like urine...as do a lot of Mexican cities I've been to..and I'm none to sure it was because of canines!!!) :((

Germ. Aust. Switz. were very clean though!

So, John is female....very interesting!!! and don't worry Shrek, you'll walk the Christmas extra off in no time!! ;))

Anonymous said...

I answered ya'll on the handbag blog, not as fun as yours...haven't had my coffee yet!

Will anyone be around later??

Anonymous said...

okay, another one from the sleepyhead....you all were hilarious on the Indep/S.Conn. blog!!! :DD

I answered your question, AJ

AJ Fife said...

I'll see what I can do Melanie.

I have an H V Morton book too - In Search of Scotland circa 1930!! I'll look it out tonight, I'm sure that's the title.

Anonymous said...

I think you carry much more interesting things in your sporrand than candy bars than your letting on! ;))

that's right, you're the student again...I'm not sure if that book sounds interesting...it could be, if it's written well, or it could be very tedious! I empathise!

Anonymous said...

oops, should be sporran; no doubt things melting might be a problem! :)

anna said...

I've got that book .... AJ ... In Search of Scotland .... by H V Morton its a great read. You're right it is a 1930s book but his prose is still a delight to read.

I especially like his description of the memorial to the Braw Lads in Galashiels. The statue is a full size Border Reiver on horseback and commemorates all the 'braw lads' who died in WW1 and WW2.

"And the horseman of Galashiels stands guard over the Border men. Go and see him. He is the perfect sentinel for those lads who carried their love of Scotland and their passionate devotion to the Borderland, their splendid pride, and their fine gallantry into the Valley of Death."

H V Morton.. In Search of Scotland, (first published 1929)

He also wrote In Search of England and In Search of Ireland. The England one is the only one that I don't yet have and so, I am keeping a look out for it!! :)

AJ Fife said...

Trying to find the book and I can't so far!!:((

It's maybe stored in my brother's attic with some other stuff!!

Frrrrrrrustrrrating!!

anna said...

I hate it when that happens... I mentioned a book on Peajay's blog the other day "The Great Hunger" about the Irish famine years..... and now I can't find it!

Annoying isn't it?

Anonymous said...

isn't that always the case!!

Melanie said...

Boy, am I late again to the party or what, ah well...I'll try not to get down about it! ;)

AJ Fife said...

Hi Melanie,

Have you been busy? I've been flirting with danger - tackling some issues with Joanna!!!;))

Anonymous said...

Hi AJ, just away from the desk

you're brave taking on the Joanna!! I saw you were teasing Doreen as well!!!

AJ Fife said...

Gotta live dangerously sometimes Melanie - is the Sgt Mjr in!!??;))

Melanie said...

Are you seeing if I'm allowed to come out and play? ;))

Melanie said...

He's out for a meeting and some errands and will be back in about an hour

Anna's pagan party looks fun doesn't it!!! :) The Celts were known for a good party sans human sacrifice, of course!

Ps...does your surname start with an 'H'? ;)

AJ Fife said...

errr......yes it does Melanie!!!

How did you work that out?

Melanie said...

I read your mind, and my what other naughty things you've been thinking!! ;D

Melanie said...

okay, I'll own up, it has to do with a horse photo... part of the e-mail, I believe, comes up...same with mine..ar_muir

AJ Fife said...

Come on ya wee rascal!! Give me a clue!!

Melanie said...

see, I didn't torture you long with the unknown, I play fair!!
You're still safe from the Lanna finding you!!

AJ Fife said...

Phew......I thought you were going to say you really live in Methil and the Sgt Mjr is waiting ootside with a sawn off shot gun!!:D

I forgot about the e-mail!

Melanie said...

If we lived in Methill, the SgtMjr would only have an airgun, right?? Unless he was a uniformed something...

anyway, I would be much better with the Scots...nope, I'm here in sunny Cal

AJ Fife said...

Yup, you could have put me through it Melanie - Anna would've given me hell and she would've been able to phone me at work!!!:D I imagine that may happen sometime, as we increasingly let our guard down!! It's down to trust though, which is good.

Anna will probably be thinking - no chance of that happening!!:D

AJ Fife said...

I think there are a few sawn off shotguns in Methil - bank robbers have to live somewhere!!:))

Melanie said...

are you hinting...first, handbag snatcher, then....my maybe you do have a wild side??

AJ Fife said...

Melanie, you forget, I live in Leven - nae bank robbers here!!:D

I used to have a wild side, many moons ago. Nothing bad though, just stupid!!!:))

Melanie said...

Your right, it is trust, but I just don't want Mrs AJ to give you what for, in case she finds
out!:((

Anna might give you a smack, when you're out of line' but then she'd offer you biscuits/cookies or something to make it better!!

same here with the stupid/wild side...I went to Uni in San Diego...beaches, surfers, etc! :/

Melanie said...

I used to cut class and go to the beach, then to the parties instead of studying...no wonder I dropped out!! I was just wasting money!

Melanie said...

Well, you say you live in Leven! ;)))

Maybe you're around the block from me!!!?!

AJ Fife said...

You obviously saw a bit of life Melanie!!:)) Good on ya!!:))

I'm going to have to sign off now - beddy by time - I'll speak with you tomorrow! :))x

btw, Anna would draw blood and then bake me my favourite cake with extra icing!!:D She's a good un....Auld Anna is!!:))

Melanie said...

g'nite AJ!! 'sweet dreams' ;))

speak to you on the morrow!! :))

AJ Fife said...

sweet dreams to you too Melanie :))

Anonymous said...

Good morning!!

Have had to restart the computer yet again...me thinks it's the kiddies using up my internet/temporary memory, as I've now learned there is such a thing!

how is everyone today??!!

anna said...

Rats I just wrote a really good post (IMHO) and its gone :(

Melanie how did you work out AJ's surname? What horse pic?

Anymore of the old bird and auld anna stuff, AJ, and I'll be giving you a tinkle .... will I get done for harrassment?

Anything doing on the Scotsman? Another independence v union debate?

AJ, Duncan, Richard, Edward for the Nats

Chairman, JG, Balloon Guy and Media 1 for the Union.

I do need to get out more! :))

AJ Fife said...

Hi Ladies,

Anna, I'm just joshing withya!!

Hellllloooo Melanie ;)

Yup, it's the usual debates with the usual suspects. I've tried to lower the tone on the Big Brother blog without success!!:(

Anonymous said...

and here I am for the 700!! :D

Melanie said...

Have you all been posting anywhere other than big bro and Indep.??

Saw you got the first post on the one, AJ

Anna, if I tell you, I'm afraid you may then be able to track AJ down and do him harm!! ;)))

AJ Fife said...

Melanie, I felt you deserved it for being my cyber mate!!

How's the hoovering getting on??;))

AJ Fife said...

Melanie, you can set Anna on me anytime!!;))

Melanie said...

The wonderful thing about older children is, I get to direct them while their doing the hoovering!!!

Melanie said...

AJ, you really do like pain, then...you twisted fella, you!!

Alright... Anna, when you leave a comment in my photo collage thing, part of the e-mail address of the sender comes up, thus the reference to the horse photo

AJ Fife said...

Aw no, I'm doomed!!:DD

AJ Fife said...

The phone in my office just rang and the blood drained from my face !!! :))or maybe :((

Melanie said...

oh, AJ, you love it!!!

Anna, give me the details when you find him out...

Yes, AJ, yer dooooomed!!! ;DD

anna said...

I'll never tell AJ......... or maybe I will ;)

Melanie.. Didn't notice the comment section on there ... I'm off for a quick look in a minute.

AJ ...I had to laugh at your comment on Eve's monicay post on one of the blogs yesterday. She is priceless, did you see her on the one with the 2 kids with flags on their faces. She was on about face painting at her primary school and she said something about "having tigrs and loins painted" .... I had to read that twice to understand it!! :D

Or is that a new thing for Scottish primary children ... getting their loins painted.. is that allowed?

anna said...

Eve's comment from the Scotsmen about face painting:

"(Tigers/ cat) were popular with or without a book maybe we were aiming for loins.) "

She really is priceless... I laughed my head off at that last night :D

Melanie said...

Eve is quite the challenge to understand, sometimes!! the loins one is funny, missed it!

AJ Fife said...

I reckon painting kid's loins would be a fairly serious matter with the Police!!:))

Ok Anna, now you have the power to speak to me directly!!!!:))

Melanie said...

Well, this should be interesting!

the Anna's new power, not the loin thing.....

anna said...

You make me sound like a medium or something AJ!

I'll keep you in suspenders for now ;))

Only joking .... what do you think I am a stalker or something? You're safe ... from funny phone calls from the 'auld game bird' in Cambs :D

Are you disappointed now? :D or were you thinking about getting the Plods in to deal with your potential internet stalker? :D

AJ Fife said...

In a strange way Anna, I was looking forward to the ticking off!!

You're right though, we should keep it distant!!;))

Melanie said...

AJ, you're going soon, but I added a comment to your big bro list

anna said...

Ah AJ...... you say the nicest things :))

You're not bad for an ogre!!

Gracious..... I must be getting softening of the brain ... and I've not even had a drink ... yet! :))

Melanie said...

AJ, play it safe now??!!!

Actually, you're right...I suppose??! ;)) :))

Anna, saw you on the big bro blog...we have similiar shows here that are watched at my work...Jerry Springer, Judge Judy, even Oprah get way over-dramatic...not to mention the soap-operas....it's hard to believe people really do get caught up in it all!

Have to start school...will keep an 'ear' out for your comments if you're on later today/tonight :)

anna said...

Big Brother is a total brain drain ... Melanie.... at least Jerry Springer is vaguely entertaining for the total shock horror of the people who appear on it. A bit like studying strange insects under a microscope. :)

AJ ... I'm having a chat with Randall from Tennesee on the face painted kids blog ..... he says that the Scots are vassals of the English :))

Does that mean you've got to do anything I say from now on and always agree with me? YEE HA :D

Anonymous said...

oh, Anna, you've got a cyber boy toy vassal now, I'm jealous!!! ;D

Jerry Springer seems choreographed sometimes...although, we've had such goings ons with these types on the maternity ward, believe it or not.... and not to be racist...they come in all different colours...sad actually, esp when you send the innocent babe home to be raised by them!! :/

Media 1 was accusing Doreen of having tight pants on the BBroblog...will check out the other as well

it looks like it might rain/snow, so I've promised the kiddies some homebaked cookies (they know this is baking weather for mama!)

anna said...

AJ... you're off the hook... with the phone thing. The only way I can look at it is by registering myself and then you'll all know my name ... which is fairly unusual and would be very easy to trace in or out of the RAF!!

I'm still kinda shy!! :D

anna said...

Did you read Doreen's reply to Media 1 - Melanie?

She accused him of having ... well lets say naughty fantasies about her... but she put it a lot more straight-forwardly than that..... she does not mince her words and takes no prisioners! :))

Anonymous said...

Hi Anna, I'm having to share keyboard time with the kiddies, so sorry if my posting is delayed at times...

I'll go and check Doreen's reply...she is brutal, isn't she....she likes AJ, though!!! :D

Anna, did you look up the phone limitations, or did you already know!!?? ;)

anna said...

She likes chasing AJ round the Scotsman boards anyway.... I think he's a wee bit feart of her tho'.

I don't understand your comment about the phones btw.

I was going to look at the comments on your picture collage (the Flickr one) but I have to register first ...

I think AJ thinks that if I get his second name off there .... I'll be able to track him down thro' the RAF network.....

But, don't worry his privacy is safe with me ..... I haven't got a clue what his second name is. :)

Anna, that definiteyl gave me a giggle!! Thenwith Arthur's help, the talk of strangling said chicken, and how was she to get there, etc!

Have you read the Al Gore blog...they're really going at it! I've not seen the film, but I really think Al Gore et al have a secondary agenda...most likely involving making money. Hard to believe they're wanting schoolchildren to watch it because of the controversy to its validity...why not just teach the traditional conserve/recycle, do right by the environment etc

PS...I was John, leaving that quote, on the 'Scots children for the Union' blog as well. Just look at how the government tried to force the kids not to speak Gaelic, and supress their native culture in Ire, Scotland, and the Native Americans here, to name a few.

Sorry if this is heavy

Anna, I was thinking the RAF would manage your inquiry and give your name away to AJ or something...nothing important, just trying for a joke. ://

Anonymous said...

and don't even get me started on supression by means of religion....my, I'd better tone down ma caffeine consumption...I'm startin tae sound like Scottwebb!! (although some of the videos he finds are interesting, to say the least) ;))

anna said...

I'll have a look at the Al Gore blog, Melanie..

Take your point about the suppression of the Gaelic languages but.. don't forget that a lot of lowland Scots never spoke Gaelic in the first place.

Eve has posted this as an economic solution to Scotland post independence:

"Envesting money in to Small busses so they can afford more staff and produce better produce and make larger profits."

How many staff can you get in a small bus? :))

Anonymous said...

Anna, your right, I think Doreen has got something for AJ!!!

I know, Anna, I was speaking of the west and north...I have an aquaintance who is in her early 60's, she lived in West Sco, I forget where...she was forbidden to speak anything but English in the classroom, and was punished for disobeying. ( I'm speaking of 'government' influence here, and not at all regarding the English people) Even the 'government' can be further interpreted re social/religious agenda, etc

hmmm, didn't I see that on a show once....or a college prank....shove as many people into a bus, or was it a phonebooth!?! :D

anna said...

The thing is that suppression of Gaelic would also have been enforced by her fellow Scots. Her teachers would have been Scottish ... a lot of lowlanders then and now had their own reason for wanting to do away with Gaelic... they believed it to be detrimental to the interests of Scotland and a backward way of living and speaking.

You'll notice when it comes up on the Scotsman boards that quite a few Scots living in Scotland are anti the Gaelic language and don't agree that signs etc should be in both English and Gaelic.

Quite a few of the Welsh people who live in South Wales feel the same way about the Welsh language. Many of them never go to North Wales - where it is in constant use, more so than English and they are like two separate countries.

The Highlands were uncharted territory for many lowlanders .. let alone the English.... here be dragons etc etc...!

anna said...

Anyway .... Melanie.. nice talking to you as always :))

I'm off to bed ... hope the children enjoy the cookies :))

Night...

Anonymous said...

I agree, Anna, the book I'm reading goes into, not only the suppression of the language but of the culture as well, many seemed to think it was a threat to the religious doctrine of the day, I think it was the Calvin/Knox approach...like AJ said, they want to ban everything and the Gaelic way was very different...I think the establishment saw it as a threat, esp the free-thinking part

I'm abbreviating here, and am still learning/researching; and not really 'pointing fingers' it's just I'm interested in it all.

Anonymous said...

yes, it is late, sorry!! enjoy your beddy-by, will speak tomorrow!! :))

anna said...

Before I go.. :)

What about the book written by John Knox in 1558

"The First Blast of the Trumpet
Against the Monstrous Regiment of Women"

The auld misogynist that he was!

Interestingly he was born in Haddington, Scotland and so was one of my sisters.

He was a real tub thumper!! :(

I wonder if AJ has read the book... bet he feels that we're a monstrous regiment of women on here sometimes :)

Right that's it I away ... you'll be relieved to hear.

Speak tomorrow...:))

Anonymous said...

Well, it looks like a 70's era party and a 'menage a twa'(sp)
...too bad I was out, perhaps I could have joined in?? well, maybee not!! ;))

you're a naughty fella, AJ!!

AJ Fife said...

Ahemmmm Melanie,

You've got to understand, it's all in the interests of comedy. Doreen and I can set each other off.

Note - in 1974 I was not a teenager, so the activities described didn't take place !!:))

How was your day Melanie??

anna said...

Just had a look at the 3 of you last night.... very good... I felt nostalgic too.

I was a teenager in 1974! :)) I used to love Sweet ... I had all their singles Hellraiser and Blockbuster and all that :))

My sister liked Slade... Coz I luv you etc and she was a huge fan of T Rex she still plays their stuff now, mind you some of it was excellent ... Metal Guru, Ride a White Swan. As soon as you hear any of that lot I'm straight back there dancing in the youth club at RAF Gutersloh in my best platform shoes, flared jeans and cheesecloth smock top!! Great :))

You're the same age as my younger sister AJ ... she wasn't older enough to go to the Youth Club in 1974 either :))

anna said...

Did you see the comment about Scots being vassals of the English (some guy from Tennessee), so... that means you have to do whatever I say from now on and agree with me!! :))

You'll find that difficult :))

AJ Fife said...

Not at all Anna, I kinda like being subservient(sp) to a woman!!;))

Enough of that tone!! Actually Anna, I totally agree with you about the music - T Rex, Slade and Sweet - I used to buy all their singles, still have them somewhere:))
We used to get the MFP albums - hits by sound-alike artists for 99p in Woolies!!

Do you remember Gary Puckett and the Union Gap? Young Girl, you're much too young girl! How about the Marmalade??

anna said...

Oh yes I remember them...!

Do you remember those TOTP LPs ... that used to feature a mini-skirted bobby dazzler and had lots of songs on?

We had a few of them..

I used to like "Tap turns on the Water, see the water flow, Acorns make a forest watch the forest grow" Who did that one?

"Children of the Revolution" was another one and we loved "Born to be Wild" by Steffenwolf ...

I used to quite like Cat Stevens (before he got religion) because he was a bit folky... Matthew and son and Moonshadow.... get them on the jukebox!! :))

AJ Fife said...

Ah the Top of the Pops albums - we had loads of them. You're right the covers were headache inducing!!:))With my brother being 5 years older, I was introduced to lots of music in the early 70's - I loved it!!

Tap turns on the water - was that CCS? Do you remember the Resurrection Shuffle by Ashton, Gardner and Dyke?

anna said...

My older sister is 18 months older than me .. so she introduced me to lots of stuff..

Then, her boyfriend (who she married and is still married to now!) was 4 years older than her, and he was into Led Zep, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Yes, The Who and all those sort of bands.. so I've got some of their LPs as well..

I really liked The Who... do you remember that mad film Tommy that they did? What the hell was it about? The music was good tho' :))

anna said...

"Put your hand on your hip, let your backbone slide" now I remember it ... had to look the lyrics up tho' :))

AJ Fife said...

The deaf dumb and blind kind
Sure plays a mean pin ball....

I think it was a criticism of the oppression and manipulation of youth in society at that time!! I remember Tina Turner as the cocaine queen - she was one sexy wumin back then!!:)))

Anna, all the Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Free, Who stuff was my staple. My brother took me to buy a record for my birthday round about 1971 and I came away with The Who's Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy Album!! It was my first proper album!:))

Pictures of Lilly make my life so wonderful!!

I eventually got to see the Who at T in the Park last year - they were tremendous and the highlight of the festival for me!!

AJ Fife said...

Tap turns on the water - Alexis Korner, I had to look it up. I can hear his gruff voice now!!

anna said...

My parents thought all that music was "rubbish, turn that row off!!". Just made us like it more! :))

They were into Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Andy Williams ..... boring ... well it was then .. I quite like some Frank Sinatra stuff now :)) and Moonriver by Andy Williams is a lovely song.

But I used to think they were really boring. Wonder what kind of stuff our kids will be into..? I'll be the one shouting "Turn that row off" at KK. :))

anna said...

AJ ... if you get the chance and can be bothered (!) have a look at my blog and the Mist in the Snow comments, Melanie has left a link to a pirate website ..

You can find out your pirate name! I'm Dirty Anne Fane and she's Mad Jenny Rackham..... bizarre or what! :D

AJ Fife said...

Anna,

Again ditto - identical household - my dad reckoned The Who and records of that ilk, ruined his radiogram!!:)) Mind you, they probably did!!:D

Did you stack all the singles on top of each other on the turn table!!??

I'll go and check out the pirate thing!

AJ Fife said...

I have to admit in the last 10 years or so I've listened to a lot of the stuff my Mum and Dad loved - Sinatra, Vic Damone, Tony Bennett, Burt Bacharach(went to see him - brilliant), Bobby Darin, Mat Munro etc

All classic artists!

Peajay said...

You have all left out Elvis!! I'm sorry but there is no way that I'll be listening to Frank Sinatra when I reach 40!!:D It's all sounding so very wistful on here today.

anna said...

Peajay,

My parents didn't like Elvis ... my mum thought he was a bit rude.. she's a prudish Northumbrian!

I really like Elvis .. so does Mr A... In the Ghetto is one of my all time favourite songs :))

AJ... yes we had one of those long spindle things that went in the middle and we used to put all the singles and sometimes LPs on it. We had an old fashioned radiogram as well... it looked like a sideboard... it was the height of fashion in the 70s.... my mum was forever polishing it!! :))

anna said...

Softly, I will leave you softly
For my heart would break if you should wake and see me go
So I leave you softly, long before you miss me
Long before your arms can beg me stay
For one more hour or one more day
After all the years, I can't bear the tears to fall
So, softly as I leave you there

(Softly, long before you kiss me)
(Long before your arms can beg me stay)
(For one more hour) or one more day
After all the years, I can't bear the tears to fall
So, softly as I leave you there
As I leave I you there
As I leave I you there

Love that one by Matt Monro... one of my Dad's favourites too... we played it at his funeral ... it was a mistake really tho' ... the whole place was awash..... but he'd have enjoyed it :))

Peajay said...

Have you heard the double CD of Elvis with entirely Gospel songs, no Mother could resist a good auld Southern Boy singing How Great Thou Art etc.

anna said...

My mother could Peajay.... !!:))

We've got the Elvis gospel song one.... Mr A's fave hymn is "How Great Thou Art"....:))

AJ Fife said...

Peajay,

Sorry Elvis is in there too, although my Dad didn't like him that much - my Mum did tho'!!:))

Anna,

The spindle thing, that's the one. Our radiogram was made by Pye and was completely solid! The radio channel selector had city names like Moscow and Berlin!!!

Those were the days my friends!!:D

Anna, are you on the gin already?

Anonymous said...

good morning all!

anna said...

Hi Melanie...... how's John Knox?

AJ .... gin ... now that's an idea:))

Ours was a Grundig ..... we got it duty free in Germany!! :))

Anonymous said...

Well, he's not on the top list of thinking about at the moment, it's more like coffee and warm fire...everything is frozen outside!

anna said...

I think John Knox was frozen outside and inside :(

Its really, really windy here and we've had a lot of sideways rain ... not a very nice day at all. :(

AJ Fife said...

Is Peajay Yolanda??

Weather's crap here too!

Melanie said...

Anna, very good observation of the historical person and his unfortunate overall influence

AJ, I remember you saying you had two left feet, so I didn't think you were acting John Travolta and, at such a tender age!

anna said...

Ooh now that's a thought ..... Peajay are you Yolanda on the BB blog?

I'm not sure ... I think Peajay comes over much more clever than Yolanda but she could be dumbing down a bit..... after all it is BB.

Peajay do you even watch Big Brother?

Melanie said...

Where are you guys posting?

Love your Pirate name, Anna, Peajay's as well

and you, Black Roger Rackham!! ;D

AJ Fife said...

Hi Melanie,

I've got into a pickle(so to speak)on the BB story and Anna's just making things worse!! You've got to help, as a man called Yolanda wants to have sex with me!!!:((

anna said...

I've just had another look.... I don't think its Peajay.

Yolanda in her post 38 uses a word which I don't think that Peajay would.... even if she was pretending to be someone else.

Am I right Peajay?

Its not me, either AJ... ! I wouldn't use the word either... my prudish Northumbrian mother told me it was blasphemous and its stuck with me all my life!!

anna said...

What makes you think that Yolanda is a man?

Mind you it does sound like the sort of name that a transvestite or cross dresser or someone waiting for a sex change might pick....

Backs to the wall ... AJ :D

AJ Fife said...

Just a hunch Anna, together with the way the conversation headed too. It doesn't really matter since it's only cyber buggery!!:D

Apologies, I seem to be mental these last couple of days!!:D

Peajay said...

I feel quite offended that you could even think it was me :D

anna said...

No need to apologise .... AJ.... I'm not offended by the word or the meaning of it.

But you could be a bit mental...!!:D

anna said...

See .... I told you it wasn't Peajay..... AJ ... but do you listen to me? Said Anna backtracking like mad!! :))

Sorry, Peajay, for even considering it .... are we forgiven....

(It was AJ's idea!) :D

AJ Fife said...

Yolanda does sound a wee bit like you Anna!!??

Melanie said...

Anna, fess up, are you Yolanda??!

sorry for the absence, had to see the Sgtmjr off to work

Peajay said...

You don't think Yolanda could be wee Donny Bumsfeld having a pop at AJ?

anna said...

Not me AJ... honest ....I'd have 'fessed up by now :))

As I said I wouldn't have used the word at post 38 I'd have said goodness instead.... and she could do with a couple of paragraphs in that post as well!! :)

anna said...

It could be you AJ.... do you dress up in women's clothes sometimes?

Or Melanie, she was playing someone called John yesterday!!

Aren't we a suspicious lot? :)

Melanie said...

Well, it all makes for a good read...just hard to be involved with such things at times, the SgtMjr frowns on the silliness of it....I'm trying to convince of the mental stimulation of the verbal sparring/bantering that it creates!!!

I made another comment on the BB, but it's quiet now, everyone going home no doubt :(

AJ Fife said...

It is silly, but a good laugh too!

I now think Melanie is Yolanda - Yolanda mentioned Mrs AJ and it's only you lot that would know that!! Eat your heart out Poirot!!:D

Melanie said...

caught you guys for some more on the BB, anna where are you?

anna said...

She's definitely Scottish ...... a "Weegie turncoat who crossed to the other side" ... has to be ....

Watch out - AJ - s/he's not that far from you :))

The Sgt Mjr is right. Melanie, it is silly ..... but it's fun as well!!

:D

Melanie said...

AJ, darlin twas not me

AJ Fife said...

Jings it's got me stumped, this Yolanda thing!!:))

See ya later

Melanie said...

bye, for now, AJ

Anonymous said...

AJ, could it be Darleen, in disguise???

For your reading pleasure:

Words Women Use:

1.) FINE: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.

2.) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour.
Five Minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

3.) Nothing: This is the
calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

4.) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!

5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you
about nothing. (Refer back to #3 for the meaning of nothing.)

6.) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

7.) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or Faint. Just say you're welcome.

8.) Whatever: Is a women's way of saying F@!K YOU!

9.) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking, "what's wrong", for the woman's response refer to # 3.

anna said...

Very good Melanie..

The other thing to remember AJ... which you probably already know is:

Never, ever under any circumstances mention a woman's weight. Even if you think she's slimmed down... it'll only lead to accusations of "did you think I was fat before" etc, etc :D and then a lot of that stuff that Melanie is on about will come into play!! :D

anna said...

AJ.... how did you ever cope with your life before you cyber met me, Melanie and Peajay?

Any more advice just ask... ;)

Peajay said...

And never respond truthfully to the question 'does my bum look big in this?'

AJ Fife said...

Thanks girls, I've already learned through experience the do's and dont's!

I won't hesitate to ask for further advice!!:D

Anonymous said...

good answer! wise man!

Anonymous said...

just in from errands, sorry I missed you Anna/Peajay

have to work tomorrow, so will try to leave a note later

any plans for the weekend??

AJ, could Yolanda be Mrs AJ????
or someone from your work??

AJ Fife said...

No chance of that Melanie!

It must be one of you guys!!??

Anyway, it doesn't matter, it was a good laugh while it lasted!:))

Anonymous said...

on my honour, it wasnt me!! very funny, tho, you're right on that one!!!

watcha up to so late??

Anonymous said...

Glad I didn't miss you AJ, was called away....speak to you tomorrow!

Melanie said...

oops, looked at the wrong week...I'm off (today)Friday, but have to work Sat/Sun :((

There's another BB blog on for Friday, if you all want another dose :/ :)

can't wait to see what my morning brings...it has been rather fun lately, esp with the antics of a certain ogre!! Sorry, gals, can't help myself!! ;)

anna said...

AJ..... honestly it wasn't me either.

I haven't posted as anyone else since the Scotsman clamped down on it.

I used to do it a lot before that .... but not since.

Yolanda was probably just making an educated guess that you'd be married... etc etc.

AJ Fife said...

It's ok Anna, it was Mel!!:)

Anonymous said...

hmmmm, if I were Yolanda that means I was posting in my sleep...

the BB story was at 11 when I went to bed! wow!

Melanie said...

AJ, I was only posting there 'cause you ain't 'round this a way....

don't git all riled up, that would make two of yas this morn (Sgt Mjr, too :( )...ah jest couldn't bear it!! ;)

AJ Fife said...

Aint gonna be riled with ya Melanie! You're too precious for me to be mad at ya!!:))

AJ Fife said...

Melanie, everybody's talking about you on the BB story - check it out!! You're held up a lady and a woman of unquestionable virtue!!

Anonymous said...

I just saw, AJ, you are a dear, really, thankyou!!!

I've been seeing to the SgtMjr...he's in a grumpy mood, his back is hurting and he's not looking forward to work...and he's probably feeling a bit put out, I've been cyber-chatting instead of ministering to him!! you know, men like their women paying attention to them!!! ;))
