AJ Fife said...

She is brilliant, a real talent!!! I bet she's -in real life- some sort of script writer!!

I suppose we'll never know:)

Have a look at the Windfarm story - somebody suspected I had a PC??!!??

Melanie said...

Hi all!!

...missed the Deliverance comments, can you direct to the name of that article!!!! ...am jest pining fer sum banjo music, but I'll pass on hearin about them aahther menfolk antics!!

ok, I've found out it's safe for me to talk with JG, and not get in trouble with an ogre!! ;)

thanks for your comments, sometimes the work can be difficult, emotionally as well as physically!

I'm looking forward to catching up with you all your today!! I'll hopefully be up with the rooster...no elbows, AJ, I need my sleep!!! :)

Melanie said...

AJ, I'm going to have bruised ribs, thank you!! Allright, I'm going back to me scratcher...will see you in a few :D

ps what does 'Och Aye the Moo' translate to?? you definitely are a requested commodity by the ladies!! ;)

AJ Fife said...

Sorry Mel, it wasn't me that poked you in the ribs!! It may have been JG tho'!!:DD

Och Aye the Moo is a variation of Och Aye the Noo, which means nothing much really! Oh yes the now!!??!! But it is used when people parody the Scots!

I threw in Moo because of the rural location of the subject!!

Enough of that - whit are ye daein' up sae late wumin?

Melanie said...

Hi AJ, I'm back from the land of nod...I woke up earlier (not of my own choice)so I had a check about, must be a mother hen thing, while the SgtMjr is away.

So, how are you?

AJ Fife said...

Hi Melanie,

I'm fine, did you check the ranch with a loaded gun??

Seriously, you got to make sure things are secure!!!

How about you?

AJ Fife said...

I'm jist a wee bit bored at the work today - sometimes my job is very monotonous....well IT is!!! I jist sit here waiting for one of you guys to appear, so I can have some fun!!:))

What did I do before this caper?

Melanie said...

Hi AJ, sorry, the SgtMjr called to check on things

AJ Fife said...

Hey Melanie, your domestic responsibilities come before AJ, so no need to apologise:)

Melanie said...

AJ, I guessed right then, ages ago, when I said computer work...more power to you, I couldn't do IT, I'm at my limit with highschool algebra and just manage the basics of the computer!! :)

I'm glad you have slow days, but that's selfish, I suppose!! :D

right about, life before, I was just thinking on that yesterday...as the first time I met/interected with you guys was another out of town trip for the SgtMjr

I haven't looked back since!! :D

Peajay said...

Hi AJ & Melanie
Everyone's having a slow day it seems. Hope all are ok.
Thank you so much Melanie for the emails one which took me back to my youth and the other which took me somewhere I didn't really want to go!! ;D

AJ Fife said...

Hi Peajay, long time no speak! How's business and did you sort out the non-payer?

Melanie, it is bizarre this blogging habit! I really thought I'd grow out of it, but it gets stronger and more enjoyable!!:) At the start I did it for a laugh(to amuse myself) and have a rant now and again. Now I tend to gravitate towards people who you can have a 'chat'with!!!!:))

Even Doreen or Horrible Cankers is a valued cyber pal (Scotsman only)!!!!

Melanie said...

Hi Peajay, I about fell down laughing with some of that memorabilia from the 70's. I had one of those banana seat bikes, not to mention the other stuff, and the Dorothy Hamill haircut!!!!

AJ/Anna, perhaps someday we'll have e-mails for each other, some of the 'forwarding funnies' are just too much!!

AJ, I see you chatting up JG!! ;)

Peajay said...

Hiya AJ
Sorry for 'no speak' have been stricken with Tonsillitis so not been up to much, least of all strong arming overly frugal clients. :(
I think we all feel the same about the blogging after all you can meet such nice people.

Melanie said...

Thank you for clarifying your and Horrible/Doreen's relationship!! Best ya keep the same with JG, or I'll have to wallop you!!! ;))

It is fun to chat with the people...there's so many different opinions/viewpoints, personalities,

... not to mention learning about windfarms on Lewis...which is actually of interest, as I look at a windfarm everyday across the valley here!

(with a special place set aside for the personalities here!! :DD)

Peajay said...

Yes Melanie but which Duke of Hazzard was yours??

Melanie said...

Ahhh!!!! no, don't ask that!!!! ;)

AJ Fife said...

From my window I can see two windfarms in East Lothian, on the Lammermuir Hills. From a distance I don't mind them, but I might feel different if it was next door. Still preferable to a bloody great big powerstation though!!!

Dukes of Hazard?? Actually that shirt you're wearing whilst riding the horse reminds me of Daisy Duke!!!:D She would've had it tied at the front tho'!!:DD

Peajay said...

I was having a chat about what I considered to be my era the other day, you have all those lucky people that were teenagers within the 60's and the Beatles or the Flower Power of the 70's and I had to have the era that fashion -forgot the 80's. At least we grew up to the accompaniment of cutting edge technological toys like Simon, Pong and Klick-Klacks!! ;)

Melanie said...

AJ, I used to tie my shirts in front, in my twenties; I would feel rather silly now to do it!!
The wind farms on in Tehachapi, and I've seen the ones in Palm Springs, impressive, but I wouldn't want to be just down the road from them!!!

Peajay, I couldn't tell you, I think I liked the personality of the blonde guy, but I tend to like brunettes, overall (just not Italian or latin types)

Any good stories to blog on?

Melanie said...

Wasn't Pong and Simon the games to rave about!! ugh! Don't forget Donnie and Marie :/ Sorry, about the 80's, Peajay, I try to forget about them, too!!!

So, Peajay, which Duke did you like... :)

Peajay said...

I liked the blond one but felt he was a bit too tall and gangly, but wow, what a smile!!

Melanie said...

Yep, ya gotta watch for them charmers!!!! :))

AJ Fife said...

Klick Klacks were banned at my school because of several broken wrists!! If I'm thinking about the correct thing!

The best thing about the seventies were hotpants!!!!AJ like hotpants!!!! The best thing about the 80's was the start of the nineties!!

Melanie said...

AJ, settle down!!! I can hear your desk jumpin from here!!! I know how you like those hippie pants!!! but, what about gogo boots, or is that too 60's?!! ;))

Do we all agree to boycott the memory of the 80's!!! ...do the 'ayes' have it?!

Melanie said...

AJ, send me your e-mail, and I'll forward you the funny, you can see about the klick-klacks yourself!! ;DD

Peajay said...

There was a set of klick klacks hanging from the phone lines near our house for many a year until the string rotted through and they probably took out some poor passing pedestrian.
We didn't really have Donny & Marie (thankfully) but had to make do with Sindy (I could never stand her boyfriend so mine had secret trysts with ActionMan) :)

Melanie said...

ok, maybe asking too much, unfair!!

the klick klacks were those large balls on a string that made lots of noise, and were wonderful to threaten the little brother with!

AJ Fife said...

Down with the eighties!!!:))

Melanie, do you not have my e-mail - remember the comment about the picture!!!?

Melanie said...

I only have the first part, I could guess if its yahoo.co.uk but not sure...and not sure if the Mrs might intercept and misunderstand, so I never tried...

AJ Fife said...
This comment has been removed by the author.
Peajay said...

Before we completely say 'down with the 80's' I think AJ should tell us if he wore the hair of the era and dressed like Duran Duran or Adam Ant!! ;D

AJ Fife said...

Mrs AJ does have access to my e-mail, but rarely accesses it and only for good reasons!:))

Melanie you just need to keep it clean and we'll have nothing to worry aboot!!!:DD

Melanie said...

fair enough, AJ, same here with the SgtMjr!!

good question, Peajay...but I really hardly remember Adam Ant...maybe that's a good thing! :/

AJ Fife said...

I had a Bono type mullett and then a Charlie Nicholas Duran duran fringe type thing - you know, only being able to see out one eye!!!:D

I was very very uncool!!:\

Peajay said...

Mullet, oooh! Nay nice!! Fringe thing, I bet your granny said it needed cutting all the time

AJ Fife said...

Well ma Mum thought it was awfy!! I cringe when I see any photos from that period!! It was......really awfy!!:))

Melanie said...

I have to step out for an appointment, but will be on later

AJ/Peajay, I was 'uncool' as well, hung out with the nerds and the geeks mostly!!! Sports for me was swimming and I helped keep stats for the water polo team...I was a geek!! :D

AJ Fife said...

I spent the whole decade playing golf!! Doesn't get anymore geeky than that!!:))

Peajay said...

There you go AJ, Mel spent the 80's dressed in a swimming cossie!! That sure must beat hotpants!! :DD

AJ Fife said...

Peajay,

That did cross my mind!!;)

I'll have a wee lie doon noo!!:D

Peajay said...

Please leave the lights on!! :DD

anna said...

Hi all,

Late to the party ... today ... looks like I missed you all :(

Welcome back Peajay :)

AJ .... are you chatting up JG now? I thought he was a fella!! :D

Melanie..... Daisy Duke eh? in sexy checked shirt and short, short, shortest pants .... poor AJ will collapse!!

TTFN :)

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna,

We've being having a bit of fun and somehow Melanie managed to get my e-mail address - how plyable am I??:))

JG is indeed a Fife wifie!! It never crossed my mind he was a she!!:D It came out in the Edith Piaf story last night!!:D

Funny thing is though, Melanie has flirted with JG on several occasions!!!;D

Melanie said...

How all of a sudden is my speaking with JG, even in a southern accent, considered flirting???!!

anyway, who knows, maybe she's cute!!! ;)

Melanie said...

just kidding about the girl cute thing!!! :))

I'll be around tonite, just have to pick up the teen around your 2130, if anyone wishes to chat!

anna said...

AJ

The way I read it ... you didn't put up too much of a fight for your email address....

You have fun now :)

Maybe JG is a lesbian... I was convinced she was a fella.

Melanie said...

Anna, I wondered why JG just sort of rode out some of the comments, and/or never clarified!! Maybe it was just a fun joke on her part!

anna said...

Actually, I take that back about JG being gay.... not that there's anything wrong with that.

I've just remembered that when, I first went on the Scotsman board during the World Cup .... I was
A J from England!!! Everyone, thought I was a guy, I think! The reason that I did it was because I didn't think anyone would take me seriously talking about footie as a woman. :D

You even had a chat with me once AJ from Fife!! You were Wee Jimmy Krankie and you told me I was getting on your tits!! :D

That's one of the reasons why I had a go at you as Anna ... and then, you, after our initial spat, became much more charming!!

I also went on as Nigel from the South East because someone on there was calling all Englishmen Nigels!!

It was then that I got moderated the first time!

Confession is good for the soul :D

Melanie said...

Anna, that's why I've sometimes used the SgtMjr's e-mail access under 'John', I think some of the guys will speak/banter/take you seriously if it's a guy, instead!!

Nigel must have been naughty to get banned!!

anna said...

Nigel was a very uppercrust English gentleman ...... who had a butler, cook and servants. He quaffed champagne and ate smoked salmon with quail's eggs for breakfast etc, etc.

Unfortunately, he got into bad company with a 2 guys one called Lucifer from Scotland and a Brian from Northern Ireland and a woman called Jackie from the US. They got a bit carried away on the boards a few times - like we did on the Grail one - and that was it ... moderated! It was a good laugh at the time tho' :D

Melanie said...

Too bad things got out of hand, and the 'nanny' had to squash the fun! Oh well, we still manage, don't we!!

AJ Fife said...

Ah, the Jimmy Krankie period!! What fun was had by me!! I remember the "you're gettin' on ma tits" jibe Anna :D I used to gate crash serious discussions on the Lebanon Crisis and offer advice under the guise of Wee Jimmy Krankie. Pretending to be Kofi's special envoy!!:))) Really bizarre I know!!:D Couldnae help it!:DD

I must say I always though JG was a bloke! Maybe she has large hands!!;)

Melanie said...

AJ, I've been chatting a bit with JG on the Edith blog...it does seem strange...before, I always had the impression JG was sort of a mild-mannerered older, conservative fellow...maybe just insert gal instead of fellow??
...is there a sort of stereotype for a Dumfermline lass?

AJ Fife said...

Melanie, it's Dunfermline, one of the ancient capitals of Scotland. Malcolm Canmore bid there with his missus Queen Margaret(St Margaret)!

It's a growing town - close to Edinburgh and Glasgow plus airports, ferry terminal, rail and motorway networks. All in all, a thriving place by Scottish standards.

Charles I was born there and the Palace although ruined is still there, along with the Abbey. It is an interesting place! Also Andrew Carnegie was born there!

AJ Fife said...

Best to look up the place on Wikipedia and get a better description!

What town are you near Melanie - so I can go on to Google Earth!!

Melanie said...

well, I gave a hint with the wind farm in Tehachapi...you can also look for Edwards Airforce Base

Anna/Peajay must be in their scratchers (where did this term originate?? hopefully, not with bedbugs!!!)

Melanie said...

sorry about the typo Dunfermline...I remember hearing the name in one of the Duhks songs as well as in general reading...wasn't Margaret responsible for adding the Norman flare, including French, to things in the court, rather than Gaelic?

AJ Fife said...

We've had people from Edwards at Leuchars in the past!! Small world indeed! The pilots come on an exchange scheme!

I'll chech it oot!

Scratcher probably does refer to bed bugs!!:D

AJ Fife said...

Correst Melanie, she was European Aristocracy stock - a mix of everything. She is almost forgotten by the masses!

Melanie said...

Well, Iona is on the list of to go to, among other places there

it seems the masses forget most things, but I'm not sure I'm in the mood for being philosophical...I did enjoy Anna's poem, though, and the photo to go with

Melanie said...

Have you found me yet??

AJ Fife said...

For a crusty old bird, she has a pleasant side to her;)

I fear she may track me down and pistol whip my sorry ass!!!:))

Oops, you're being aw philosophical and I'm jerking around!!!

Melanie said...

AJ, I am quite flexible for conversational purposes...poetry and pistol whipping...pick yer poison!!!

AJ Fife said...

I'll look tomorrow- don't have the software on my laptop!

Put out a flag in yer yard!!:))

AJ Fife said...

Err....I'll go for.....poe....no pisto.....no!!! Hard choice Melanie!

Melanie said...

AJ, the scary thing is if I were brave enough to give you my address, you could very well see a flag!!!

AJ Fife said...

Got to go for a wee while Melanie!

AJ Fife said...

No addresses Mel!!:) Tsk Tsk

Melanie said...

Well, maybe some day, I'll have the SgtMjr trace you and do a backround check for security purposes!!! ;DD

I would absolutely love a Xmas card from my Fifer friend, so perhaps..... :DD

Melanie said...

or was I being thick and you were scolding me about the thought of sharing addresses, sorry...perhaps I need ta lie down fer a bit, or grab some coffee...am a bit tired today!

...I'll settle for a cyber Xmas card then!! ;DD
...the holiday card offer extends to Anna as well, I'm not being cyber-standoffish!!! :)

Peajay, already receives them!

Melanie said...

AJ, Neil's writing reminds me of some of what I read with Welsh ...it's pretty raw, but you could say, it draws you in as to what happens next!

Well, I think I'll turn in... will speak to you all tomorrow!

AJ Fife said...

The Tehachapi area has many notable faults but is best known for the 7.7 quake on the White Wolf Fault in 1952. The earthquake was the largest in Southern California in the twentieth century and was felt as far away as Reno, Nevada. Twelve people died in the quake and severe damage was done to buildings and rail lines in the area.[1]

Wotcha doing there Melanie?:)

Very, very interesting neighbourhood Melanie! What about the okies!!??:)) Dust Bowl migrants!!!

AJ Fife said...

You must be the windpower experts of the world!!!

AJ Fife said...

The loop looks like something the roadrunner would be gettin' chased along!!!:D

AJ Fife said...

Melanie, do you stay in the Mojave Desert?

I saw a picture of the windfarms! Really spectacular!!!:))

AJ Fife said...

Check Tehachapi out Anna!!

I like the sound of Tehachapi Mel!!

AJ Fife said...

Kern county Melanie?

AJ Fife said...

Anna, Peajay are you there?
Wake up Melanie!!:(

Gonna have to clear off soon, as I'm kinda under the weather - touch of Avian Flu!!:)

I was hoping for a bit of verbal intercourse before I go!!:)

anna said...

Looks like you've been having intercourse with yourself AJ.... !! Is that possible? :D

Is Tehachapi where Melanie lives?

I might send you a card c/o RAF Leuchars.... seeing as I know your name!! :DD

Don't worry, you're safe ..... I'm not a stalker! just a crusty old bird!! :D

I'll look up Tehachapi..

Not sure if Mr A has been to Edwards or not .... he's been to China Lake but that's near Ridgecrest .... are they all close together?

Have you got 'man flu' AJ?

Melanie said...

AJ, I'm here, you woke me up!

Melanie said...

I'm across the valley from Tehachapi in LA County...I live in the Antelope Valley, we have Lockeed-Martin/Skunkworks here, Edwards is maybe a 40 minute drive, but then, everything is 'a drive' out this a way!

... as there is only one known Sirname of the SgtMjr variety here...I can't say which town! ;)

Melanie said...

Anna, I think it's about a 2hr drive from here...not sure how many m/km

that would be funny, if you sent a card...easy on the 'ole boy now...mustn't worry him though, he's under the weather!! :( :)

AJ Fife said...

I'm battling the "man flu", I'm still soldiering on, keeping my customers happy and covered in germs!!!:)

Antelope Valley eh, I'll check it oot!! It's an interesting enviroment! Do you ever drive along those long straight roads swigging from a bottle of Bourbon? And when you're finished, you just chuck the bottle oot the windae!!

How about those petrol stations, where the attendant sits on front porch chewing baccy and has a rifle across his knee!!??

Anna will turn up one day I'm sure!!:))

Melanie said...

For someone under the weather, you sure are full of it this morn!!

It's actually not as redneck/country, anymore, as you would think...the population shifted with the housing boom and this place became a bedroom community for LA

Melanie said...

noticed Anna and I posted at the same time...great minds think a like Anna!!! ;)

so, AJ, did you catch a sniffle due to walking you dugs in late night arctic temperatures...or just not enough vitamins???

maybe you caught some internut flu from Peajay???

Melanie said...

internut was a typo, but I kind of like that new word...perhaps it's appropriate for this foursome!!!! ;D

AJ Fife said...

btw I know your surname from the wineadventures site!!:))

I could turn up on the door step, Mel!!!:D

Anna, are you suggesting I should go away and F*%$ myself? :))

Melanie said...

AJ/Anna, I just thought of something, you know my name from the wine website...uh oh!! ;)

AJ Fife said...

Internuts!!! Foursomes!!!

Jeezo Melanie, yer some cookie!!:))

I've been battling the "man flu" all week! Takes a lot to lay me low, I'll have ye know!!!:))

Melanie said...

Well, AJ, I'll have the Guinness ready! You and the SgtMjr can have cigars, he'll show ya how ta clean a rifle (not a threat, here mind you!! ;))

Anna/Peajay you're invited too, we'll find something more interesting than cigars and rifles to keep our attention!!

Melanie said...

AJ, you're naughty, my mind isn't even awake for That kind of humour...yet!

Anna/Peajay, Help!!!! :D

anna said...

Hey there AJ.... we could track her down that way!! :))

I've been off having a look at the 'friendly fire' blog just now. Its not too bad on there altho' ..... most people seem to feel some sympathy for the pilots involved as well.

They certainly sounded very upset ... when they realised what they'd done. They have to live with it for the rest of their life.

Some people on there don't seem to have much of a clue about the military. They seem to think you just jump in a plane and wahay you're off on a mission...... They train constantly and the checks are rigorous..... the USAF guys that exchanged to RAF squadrons when I was in the RAF were every bit as professional as our pilots.

Unfortunately, there hasn't been a war yet where troops haven't been killed by 'friendly fire'.

AJ Fife said...

I've always wanted to clean a rifle! Can I shoot a racoon or a couger?

anna said...

Internutcourse? Is that allowed... and who is going to be in the foursome?

I'm sure JG is a guy btw... what did he/she say that makes you both think otherwise?

AJ Fife said...

Anna,

They also do the bulk of the sorties, so there is always more chance of an incident being perpetrated by an American pilot! I noticed someone suggesting the RAF wouldn't make the same mistake. However, I don't believe that for one minute.

I didn't look at that story as it's upsetting and I had enough watching the news last night! What's annoying is the deliberate cover up - the mother was told three years ago the video didn't exist!!

Melanie said...

AJ, you're fixated on raccoons!!! You can shoot deer, bear, quail in this area. Special permit only for a cougar, which can be arranged!! ;)

Why not join us on a hunt trip to Utah or Colorado ;) I would say 'you can clean my rifle, too'...(so I could get out of the work of it), but in your state you'd misinterpret and topple your desk!!! :D

...I've not gone as yet...the one in Colo. is on a dude ranch...Utah is just with some friends, I'll be cookin up tha supper!!!

Melanie said...

The whole friendly fire is upsetting!!! I think the majority of people don't understand!!!

anna said...

300

anna said...

You're right AJ.... the RAF has not got an untarnished reputation in that department.

There is a reason why 6 Sqn are known as Sh*tty Six!!

I'm not sure of all the details but its to do with them abandoning their groundcrews in the African desert during WW2 and a lot of the groundcrews getting taken out by the enemy. There was a MOD cover-up over that for years.

I agree with you about the families ... they should have been told, but thats the MOD for you ... I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them!

Melanie.... Utah... that sounds good ... as long as Sgt Mjr doesn't get carried away and get himself a few more wives!! :)

AJ Fife said...

Ha Ha, ye missed Anna!!!!:D

I couldn't shoot a live thing if I tried Melanie, unless it was a threat of course!!

Mr AJ would render me a eunoch if I did!!:)

anna said...

Knickers I missed again :(

I don't like shooting either... we used to have to do range practice in the RAF ... I was rubbish!! Couldn't hit a barn door and kept getting told off by the Rock Apes....:(

Hated cleaning the gun too :( Mind you, occasionally one of the lads would clean it for me in exchange for a ...............
................................
................................
................................
cup of tea!! :D

Melanie said...

phone call.......be back

AJ Fife said...

Do the Mormons still allow polygamy? One wifie is enough for me:))

AJ Fife said...

WAFs eh, the same the world over:DD

Melanie said...

there's still polygamy there, not sure how legal!!!

So, AJ, the Mrs is a civilian, right? I'm surprised you don't want a harem, keep you well fed, well pampered!!! :D

Agree with you about the killing...not sure if I could shoot Bambi...I've only gone target shooting, which I really do enjoy! skeet I've only tried once, very hard!! (deer/elk is the same as beef/lamb to me...but I'm not in the mood for a hunting v humane killing debate!!! :))

Melanie said...

Anna, no doubt a cup of tea, with a smile and a bat of eyelash!!!!

AJ Fife said...

Melanie, we're moving on to the morals of a typical WAF (Womans Air Force)!!

Melanie said...

thank you AJ, ...morals???????

AJ Fife said...

Exactly Melanie!! Legend has it, that WAFs have slightly less morals than a randy ginger tom!!:D

Just kidding Anna ;))

anna said...

Watch it AJ.... I've heard them all .... and probably even some that you've never heard of!!

My morals are my business and always have been ... I don't speak for or defend anyone elses :)

Water off a duck's back! :D

anna said...

I'll pass on your comment - Melanie - because I don't think you meant it the way it came over.:))

Melanie said...

I was only joking Anna!

There are a mix of people Anywhere...the military/base living is just more closely concentrated or something! (I have military friends, and SgtMjr for the stories)

...I've heard jokes of the Officers' wives being the worst...I've heard stories of the goings ons at the enlisted clubs...It's just people and drama!!

anna said...

Good....... I don't like generalisatons... about people. Some women and men 'put it about and sleep around......... in all walks of life..... some do not... that applies to the military and civilians.

anna said...

Talking about Utah and polygamy... I was watching a Discovery programme recently about that. There was some oldish guy on there who had about 10 or 11 wives (!) and was maybe going to be charged with child abuse because a couple of them were underage.

He looked like a randy old goat... and I couldn't understand what all the women saw in him. Altho' it sounded as if some of the younger ones were coerced into marriage by their parents and community. I think it was only in a small part of the state.

Melanie said...

Anna, you're right about that...there are some 'cults' where that goes on. Their outlook/belief system is very skewed, I think.

Melanie said...

Have to take the teen to a school program...will be back, but not before you leave AJ...hope you're feeling better!

anna said...

See you later Melanie :))

Have you gone home AJ..... or are you too scared to face me after your comments that I had the morals of an alley cat (or something like that)... Tsk, Tsk!!

How did you know, anyway? :D

Melanie said...

Anna, no doubt you are positively feline ferocious!...poor Mr A?!!!!!
;DD

anna said...

I've just re-read my posts... I sound a bit stroppy! Sorry, about that.... I didn't mean to have a sense of humour failure..... but then again, AJ does ask for it sometimes!! :D

Hope your 'flu is better soon... cherub ;)

Melanie, I know you were joking..... sorry if I sounded a bit catty! :)

AJ Fife said...

Anna,

I jist wanted to get a roasting from you!! Part of my therapy!!:))

Anybody causing havoc on the Scotsman???

Melanie said...

Anna, your feathers did seem a bit ruffled!! :)

We're amongst friends here, and no doubt we'll all have a turn at various responses depending on sensitivity of subject!!

Melanie said...

Hi AJ, haven't read much this morning, I left a comment on the evangalist/evolution ape man bones, nothing else

If I see Doreen/Horrible I'll let you know, as you seem in the mood for that kind of female treatment!! ;))

are you taking your vitamins? Echinacea is also good for the immune system

AJ Fife said...

Hi Melanie,

I had to make a quick exit from my work, or I wouldn't have got away until 5!!

I enjoyed researching your area, it looks exactly how you've described it - nearby desert, mountains, windfarms etc!!

One day me and my family will tour CA! I just want to drive in a desert or take the route 1 road up the coast!! Getting stopped by some motorcycle cops and getting spreadeagled across the bonnet of my Chevy!!!! Just joking with the last one!:DD

AJ Fife said...

we use echi-whatyacallit all the time !!! Never works tho' :)

Melanie said...

the coast drive is beautiful AJ, and the desert in the spring after some rain makes for some incredible wildflowers (check out Lancaster Poppy reserve- might be able to google some good photos)

anna said...

Always happy to oblige with a verbal spanking AJ ;)

Any snow round your way yet?

Snow is forecast in the UK tomorrow, Melanie, and as usual the TV channels are going over the top with it all.

Terry Wogan on Radio 2 was funny this morning, being really sarcastic "imagine that, snow in February etc, etc".

Melanie said...

very funny, echi works but have to have lots of water, and sometimes in combo with golden seal root, and use only for about 4 days then have to back off of won't work, it's an immune support not a cure...there's other good things to use within homeopathy, too

Melanie said...

that should have said stop in 4-5 days, then have to back off/not use

Melanie said...

Have to drive 'cross town, to pick up the teen, be back in about 40 minutes ...jest when the bletherin wis startin, too!!! :(

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna,

It's snowing at the mo! Hopefully we'll get snowed in!!:D Nae work tomorrow!!:0

Melanie,

You've lost me, but Mrs AJ knows about stuff like that!!:)

The desert sounds great, have you ever stepped on a rattle snake?

anna said...

I'm not really into homeopathy (sp?) stuff ..... altho' I do use an Arnica gel ointment as a rub on my ankle joint (I broke it a few years ago), if it gets sore and swollen.

Also use Aloe Vera gel for sunburn... but that's about it.

I pop the Ibrufen (sp?) if I've got a headache!! :)

I see you're on the BNP blog AJ.. I can't get into that .... too many fruitcakes for me. Altho' Eve is valiantly defending the Muslims. She's quite right there are good and bad everywhere.

I've been on the Union blog (again) its up to 600 and something now.... but I'm being fairly laid back... :)

I've just started reading this book called "Death of an Ordinary Man" .... its quite good so far... this guy dies and its about what he feels like in the afterlife etc.. I'm not sure how its going to pan out but it seems quite interesting at the moment.

AJ Fife said...

Anna,

Given the amount of books you read at the same time, do you sometimes get them mixed up. When you imagine the guy in the current book, he might be dressed in the plaid and speaks in a 18th C Scottish dialect!!!

Just a thought!!:)))

I'll have a wee look on the Union blog. What amazes me, are the posts that contain about 1000 words!! I see the enormity of them and I can't be bothered reading them!

AJ Fife said...

I'm being too nice on these boards, I think it's about time I ripped into someone like the Aussie on the Union blog!!

What do you think Anna?

anna said...

I always have a non fiction and a fiction on the go at the same time AJ.... :))

One for when I've got my serious, thinking head on (not often!!) and the other for the rest of the time.

I see you're chatting up Janis now ... :)) She is nice tho' :)

That link Mike C put on about Mel Gibson's films was interesting .... I knew there was loads of cr*p history in Braveheart and the Patriot but I didn't realise there was a lot in the film Galiopoli as well. You live and learn!!

anna said...

Yeah go for it .... AJ ... the Aussie is asking for it a bit.. :)

Do you tell them who to vote for?

anna said...

Don't pick on Fairfax ..... he's clever ... I'm not saying you're not but he is obviously an academic and economist type person.

I'd leave Mike C alone as well...

I have to say that I do get a bit irritated when some antipodeans or americans go on the independence blogs and start talking b**locks about the English. Mentioning feudal systems and how we're all keeping you in chains etc, etc. Most of them have no idea whatsoever about how the UK is constructed and think this is a Braveheart film.

Mind you I might have to have you chained up AJ..... but knowing you .. you'd probably enjoy it!! :D

Melanie..... I don't mean you when I say Americans.... I know you're one of the enlightened ones :)

AJ Fife said...

I've visited the Gallipoli battle field as my Grandfather served there. I read quite a bit about the history and was amazed by how few Aussie and NZ casualties there were compared to the British Army. You get the idea that it was a sole anzac tragedy - not so, the British lost, by far, the most men!!

Aussies...sometimes...are full of sh*t!!! btwe the Turks hate them, as there is always trouble on Anzac Day!!

I feel better already!!:)))

I took out some frustration on the BNP story!! The Cobber bloke will be long gone!

AJ Fife said...

Fairfax is indeed an academic. I've enjoyed reading his posts. He has a thing for the actress who played Lady Fairfax in the latest dramatisation!!:) The dirty auld goat, or randy old goat!!:)))

anna said...

Yes, I like Fairfax's posts ... you always learn something!!

I think he used to post as Dryden ... very similar style and both olde English names.

Eve is posting a few gems:

"I was brought up to be Prode to be Scottish (Not Brittish) and to respect overs rights to be prode of their nationality. Not words of bigoits."

Prode :)) Poor thing, but then she doesn't help herself when she asks what Commies and twitters mean. She is a bit slow..

AJ Fife said...

Eve is great, I look for her posts now:)) If it is someone having a laugh, they're remarkably consistent with the syle of type!! I suspect she is what she says she is....surely???:D

Anyway, I got more frustration out with Rankin/Conan Doyle's hoose story. It'll be interesting to see if Wingate responds!!:))

anna said...

Interesting bit about the Gallipoli battlefield btw AJ :)

Did you ever see that dramatisation called " All the King's Men" about the Sandringham regiment that went to Gallipoli and were nearly all killed.

I've visited Sandringham a few times - its just down the road a bit- and they have a memorial to them there and a lot in the museum about them. Interesting place for a visit....... even if Lizzie doesn't ask you in for your tea!! :))

Lovely grounds and woods there as well and they let all the peasants and their dogs wander about in them. :))

anna said...

I'll have a look at the Rankin/Conan Doyle thing..

Wingate is a pompous arse isn't he?

I think Eve is genuine .... no-one could keep that up for so long.

AJ Fife said...

I remember the programme coming out but I missed it!!:(

Gallipoli was a dodgy idea(Churchill as you know) that was poorly executed. It did give Mustapha Kemal Ataturk the platform to become the greatest reformer in the Muslim world! So every cloud....

Don't think my Grandad would have agreed with that, somehow!

You should read about Gallipoli - amazing heroism by the ordinary Tommy and Johnny Turk, coupled with awful strategy by Generals 6 miles off shore!! I forget the German Officer who masterminded the defence of the peninsula, but he was the stereotypical Prussian Officer!! The right man in the right place at the right time.....unfortunately for 250,000 allied troops!!

AJ Fife said...

Hmmmm, what would happen if I e-mailed the Times, saying bird flu has broken out amongst the pheasants of Sandringham!!!:))

anna said...

Prince Philip would be on the front pages ..... wringing their necks and stamping on them..

He likes a bit of blood sport does old Phil :))

They have quite good festivals and shows at Sandringham thro' the year as well. I haven't bumped into any of the 'blue bloods' yet tho' :))

In fact, the only one that I've ever met was Princess Diana .... she was very nice.:)

AJ Fife said...

Poor Di,it must have been like marrying into the Munsters!!!

Melanie said...

Well, look what I've missed!!! :)

AJ Fife said...

Hi Melanie,

Fam OK?

I'm currently waging war with some Nazis on the BNP story - not nice, but I'm trying to be sarcastic and insulting!!:))

Melanie said...

Everything is okay...the teen had to do some State required testing, but the site was across town, then when I'm out I try to conserve the gas/petrol and double up on errands, banking etc

right now, they're done with school and watching a film! :)

Melanie said...

It's fun to watch/read your and Anna's postings on the different gov/union/UK blogs...obviously I opt out on some of the subjects, unless it gets silly, of course!! :)

AJ Fife said...

Did he do OK Melanie?

The politics must be hard for you Melanie...sometimes! After all, we are a foreign country, but I sense/know you have much more than a basic understanding!!:))

I've got chores to carry out now, so I'll be away for a while, if not until tomorrow!

You take care and have a great day Melanie!:))

Goodnight Anna, get stuck into someone!!:))

Melanie said...

thanks, AJ :) ...I think the human behavior of it all is pretty much the same, and a lot of the problems/concerns are of a similiar issue...it's just learning/understanding 'the rhythm and the wording' so to speak

the testing was an exit exam for the highschool, which she doesn't graduate/exit for another two years...so I think they just want to gauge the learning level.

I'm off to LA in a couple of hours, so will speak to you all on Friday...unless, of course, I kin wrastle the laptop away from the SgtMjr!!! :D

anna said...

Hi all,

I couldn't get back onto the server last night .... so went to bed instead.

I had an exam this am ... legal proof reading .... so I struggled through the snow to get there. The exam, itself, was only 45 minutes but you have to get there at the 'crack of sparrows' to get a parking place. So I consoled myself with a coffee and bacon roll.

Is it snowing up your way AJ... we've got a couple of inches round here.... KK is thrilled! He'll be leaping about in it when he gets back from school no doubt :))

Melanie.... you're a wise woman to stay out of the politics blog ... they can get a bit heated :D

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna,

How did the exam go? Good start to the day though - bacon rolls!!:)

We had a dusting in Leven and nothing up at Leuchars. It's pretty miserable though - sleet blowing through and occasional hale!!:(

KK will enjoy the snow, I loved the snow as a wee laddie! I was really into sledging, the more dangerous the better. Everybody reckoned the snow provided a soft landing......wrong!!

AJ Fife said...

Interestingly, on the Union blog, Janice makes reference to MY harem of lady posters!!!!!

Have I got a reputation? How dare she!!!!It's only a message board!!:))

anna said...

I thought you'd have had more snow than us.... with being on the east coast as well.

I think Wales and the west is getting a lot tho'... schools and roads closed all over the place there.

Also, I had to struggle into college and had to listen to Sarah Kennedy instead of Terry Wogan... he couldn't get in apparently! The funnies weren't the same when she read them out :(

I had to imagine Terry doing it instead :)

I think, the exam went OK .. its one of those things that just needs attention to detail and can be a little tricky.. designed to catch you out. Not easy when you're looking out of the window watching the snow! Still, I think I managed to concentrate enough ... and the bacon roll helped!

I see Janis is wanting to join your 'Lady Poster's Harem' :D

You're getting a right reputation on the Scotsman AJ :)

Duncan is a bit bonkers isn't he ... I wonder if he drinks!! :)

anna said...

Our posts about the Lady Posters Harem must have crossed... great minds and all that :))

You know how to charm the 'lady posters' AJ... another notch on your laptop:

Melanie
Doreen
Horrible Cankers (Doreen by another name ... but not everyone knows that!!)
JG (could be dodgy ... might be a bloke)
Peajay ? (sometimes)
Yolanda
and now
Janis!!!

You're doing well!!

AJ Fife said...

So Anna, you're no part of ma harem.... !

Don't answer that please....ouch!!!!:)))

The question of the week is back! Have a go and see if you can get into print!!

The Italian HIV scoundrel is an interesting board today. I haven't added anything but Doreen/HC is giving it both barrels!!

AJ Fife said...

Mrs AJ is starting to wonder what those marks are on the laptop!!:)

So does MrA realise you can "imagine Terry Wogan" at the drop of a hat!!??:D

anna said...

I'm never going to part of anyone's harem AJ....

I'm the one and only or not at all!! :D

I like to think of us as equal adversaries :))

Anyway, I've got William Wallace to think about ;))

I meant Terry's voice .... not his body!! :)

I've have a look at that blog later ... I've got to pop off for a bit ...

Behave yourself .... see if you can add to your notches!!

Peajay said...

I'm really not sure I want to be in anyones harem!! I would barely even register for a fan club. ;DD
Have managed a good 10cm of snow here in slippy WGC so have decided to stay in and hibernate.

AJ Fife said...

Hi PJ - 10cms, that's quite a heavy fall - our paultry helping has disappeared already:)

anna said...

I did put you down as a maybe for the harem ... Peajay!! :)

Our snow is all slushy now... and its sort of sleeting..... yuk!!

Would have been quite nice if it had been here for the weekend :)

Any more conquests AJ?

anna said...

I've just read something you said about posts that contain over 1000 words .... AJ...

They are really boring ... I never bother with them, unless its someone who can write but most of them are just people (like Richard & Duncan) copying and pasting boring stats off other web-sites.

Do you think its possible that they are the same person?

anna said...

Another thing about the Scotsman..... sometimes I don't even bother to read the article ... I just shoot straight on down to the comments!!

They are better than most of the articles anyway!!

AJ Fife said...

:D That's true Anna, quite often have to go and look at exactly what we're meant to be talking about!!!

I don't think they're the same person - Richard seems younger!!:))
Probably miles off with that assumption!!:))

I've got myself in a right fankle on the question of the week blog!!:)) I'm starting to dig my way out of it though!!

No more conquests Anna!!:))I'm quite happy with my current batch!!:D

AJ Fife said...

Hi Melanie, how is LA?

anna said...

You're right thinking about it Richard does seem younger, also I think Duncan has mentioned being in the Army... one of the Scottish regiments (of course!!) :)

AJ Fife said...

I'm not often right Anna!:)

Old Duncan took badly with something I said last night! It seemed to be my appreciation of Janis achieving the 600! He called me a snivelling thingy!!:D

So you think he was drunk? Have to admit, it can be dangerous posting when you've had a few!!!

Are you 'active' Anna?

AJ Fife said...

I've noticed you and Janis like to ally yourselves!!:))

The two of you have a similar way of writing!!

anna said...

I'm not Janis ... AJ... altho' we do meet up on blogs occasionally, sometimes we're joined by Peter Baleares from Spain and I'm not him either!! :))

Honest, since the last moderation - on the Grail blog.... I've only ever used Joanna to post. I've been moderated 3 times now, I think that's enough for anyone!! :D

anna said...

I've only blogged on the dog tail docking thing today

anna said...

AJ...

Duncans just had a go at you on the union blog.... I think he's calling you a self abuser without actually using the 'w' word!!

Go for it AJ .... :D

AJ Fife said...

I 'fired' back a clever reply!!! That'll teach him not to mess with someone with so much 'spunk'!!

I seem to be getting a reaction on the question of the week blog!!

I'll check the doggy tail tale and see what you're stirring!!:))

anna said...

I've had no takers on the dog blog... I was hoping someone was going to ask me my views on castration ...but no :(

It would have been 'off with the goolies' of course :D

Duncan's a bit of a wierdo!

AJ Fife said...

I had no doubts about that Anna!!:D

People are starting to stay clear of you!!:))

Duncan seems a bit tense! I wonder if he'll see the funny side of my jibes!!:)

I wonder how Mel's getting on?:(

anna said...

Are you missing Melanie because she calms you down, when Duncan winds you up?

I'm no good I just encourage you to retaliate!! :))

Richard's a touchy eejit as well! Maybe he's Duncan's love-child!! :D

anna said...

That Union blog is still going strong.... I expect Andrew Allan will be back round about teatime to answer my post....:)

I've noticed that very few take Fairfax on..... and those that do tend to come off worse :))

Interesting guy.. .I wonder if he works at Cambridge Uni...

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna,

Fairfax is good and entertaining. Richard is a bit of an arse, but we get on well:)) Maybe we wouldn't in real life!!:)

Melanie does soothe me!:)))

Are you riling anybody up elsewhere?

I've entered into a prolonged discourse on the Question of the week - I hope my analogy of a radical Islamic grp will win the day!!:))

Did KK enjoy the snow?

anna said...

Is Richard your love child? :D

I'll go and have a look at the question of the week... you seemed to be doing OK on there yesterday.. fighting them off.

I haven't blogged anywhere today..

anna said...

Yes thanks KK did enjoy the snow.... he also spent a destructive 15 mins this am trying to break the ice in a bucket in the garden.... he's hoping to complete the job when he gets home!! :))

anna said...

Wales v Scotland tomorrow ... AJ.. do you think you've got a chance?

Italy v England ... well on Italy's showing against France.. England should be OK .. but we'll see!! :)

A friend of mine was watching the Scotland v England game last week in a pub in her village near here..... there were a couple of Welsh guys there with those blow up daffodils that they have. Well, the daffodils sprang a leak and deflated so maybe that's a good omen for Scotland!! :D

AJ Fife said...

I think Scotland will get well and truly thumped!!:( I was scarily accurate in my prediction on last weeks game).

Funny that - daffodils springing a leak!!!:)))

anna said...

Oh yes, and it wasn't intended either... the springing a leak thing I mean!! :))

KK's favourite teacher is Welsh... so KK is supporting Wales this weekend because he wants "Mr Jones to win"!!! :)

I think he might even support Wales against England because he likes Mr Jones so much!! His Dad will never forgive him! :D

AJ Fife said...

Ah the innocence of a wee boy - good on him!!:D

Can't get my posting duties done today for pesky work issues!!:(

Do you think the lad I'm debating with has a point? I noticed he made a reference to the BNP, querying if I knew what they were about!!! I think he is actually a BNP supporter and lets face it,if those guys had a sniff of power, we'd have real problems!! Luckily, as I keep on saying - 37 votes!!:))

What you doing this weekend?

anna said...

I think he probably is a BNP supporter..... I think you're right they are an odious party but..... I suppose in a democracy they have a right to canvass and stand for election.

However, I very much resent having to pay for them. :(

Hopefully people will be mindful of what they really stand for ... but there is so much negative publicity put out by the media against muslims and others that I think they will get votes.

Mr A's sister is married to a Jewish guy ... if they had lived in Germany during the 30s ... he and their 2 lovely little girls would have been victims of the Nazis.

That is what the likes of Griffin really stand for.

We're not doing much this weekend ... might go for a walk to Holme Fen (the one in the picture on my blog) if the weather brightens up a bit.

We'll watch the rugby as well .... its half term next week so I'm taking KK to see Charlotte's Web at the pictures... then 'horror of horrors' probably go to McDonalds afterwards. Don't tell the junk food police! :D

What are you up to?

Melanie said...

Hi I'm back! I was actually in Cerritos, which is farther south from LA; I say LA because unless I'm at the beach, it (the strip malls, etc) all looks the same to me down there!! :) I was able to get some studying done with out interruptions and had a nice dinner out.

Lots of reading to catch up on here...did I see the word harem??!! ;)

How is everyone?? no doubt busy with your Friday eves!!! :))

Peajay said...

Hi Melanie
Glad you had useful trip.
Harem was mentioned but discounted by the majority. ;)

AJ Fife said...

Hi Guys,

Just a quick hello before beddybys:))

Glad you had a good time in LA Melanie!;)

Got myself in a right argument on the Question of the week! Anna, I'm not sure if people like Griffin should be allowed to stand for election! He is a criminal afterall and a danger to the public!

I'll catch up over the weekend - more painting:(

Melanie said...

Hi guys, sorry couldn't make it back to the keyboard...I was mobbed by children!

My Sat. should be free to chat...

talk with ya soon! :)

anna said...

Hi Melanie .... talk to you later :)

AJ ..... very good response on the BNP blog ..... you are definitely holding your own....

Wonder if Fairfax is BNP? Could just be playing Devil's advocate.. I thought your response to him was great.

I agree with you btw.... they do have an agenda and its not just to stop immigration....which I think does need much more control. I think they have the same idealism as the National Socialists in Germany and Oswald Moseley's lot here .....

Good on you AJ... for standing out against them.... I do mean that btw :D

anna said...

Fairfax is a mathematical professor ... and I think he's at Cambridge uni....

I thought he was a brainy git.

I got the 800 on the Union blog... how sad is that?

Melanie said...

Good Morning!

I read that political forum page with interest...AJ you did hold you own well. I think they expected you to back down, so I'm glad you didn't! (they closed the page already)

I've been putting off getting to work here; it's so much nicer sipping on coffee and reading! :))

Melanie said...

Almost to the 400...I'd better start lookin for pictures!!

of course, I may have to come up with something profound to keep up with you gals!! ;)

So, Anna, saw your Rusty Nail comment...what do you think...should I try this upscale 'maple syrup'...use it as perfume??? :D Haven't thought of any quips to add

AJ, how's your shooder holdin up?...I've put off painting as yet

Peajay said...

Hi Melanie
It's hard to credit we're nearly to 400 already, so much blethering going on. How's life treating you and yours?
Have been craft fair-ing today, not a bad day for the time of year with Chrimbo creditcard bills just hitting the doormats of the populace. :/

Melanie said...

Peajay, I have been very lazy today, some housework here and there, but I can't get motivated...did make a nice lunch for the fam via the BBQ

it's too windy to ride, and I'm more in the mood to stay home, if that makes sense.

I would think it would be difficult at the craft faires sometimes due to the fickleness of the populace!!! Glad things went well, though!!

Peajay said...

My word a BBQ in February, how fantastic. We are on warming, comfort food like stews and casserole although todays was an alternative, cobbler.
400.....yes!!!

Melanie said...

Peajay, it's teeshirt weather, which would be wonderful if not for the dread of the oven temperatures to follow....I suppose my word xerophilous was not entirely truthful...I'm only adapted as much I can escape to the air conditioned house!!
