was doing all of the tractor work, as well as helping with the rigging of the pulleys as he is quite familiar with ropes from his rock climbing experience.
Over these last five years, we have become good friends with Dr. Maureen Clemmons, and have continued in helping with the project. It is a fascinating concept! We are even more involved with the second documentary; my husband continuing with the ropework, building/carpentry, tractoring, and he has even been pulled in to help with the kite flying.
I fill in the gaps as a general field assistant, “girl-Friday”, and help moniter health issues re: heat, dehydration, etc.
We went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art last year with Dr. Clemmons to do some recon work. Although there are other riggers and knot/rope people on the crew, my husband and I are the only Rockclimbers, …we came across this picture and commented to Maureen that it looks like a man wearing a rockclimber’s harness and belaying something with his ropes (as in, maybe a kite/ pulley system connected to move stones) The team is still studying this and they are trying to get another trip scheduled to go back to the Met as well as to the museum in London. Dr. Clemmons has been to Egypt once already, and would love to make a return trip, but it has been postponed at this time.
If you’re curious, my hubby is the country boy in the brown over-alls. I, on the other hand, have the uncanny ability in avoiding the camara!! Let me know if you have any questions, but I think the following sites might help!

«Oldest ‹Older 601 – 800 of 1005 Newer› Newest»Even as a possibility, it's a mighty potent thought Melanie!!:D I wonder if Wee Peajay and Auld Anna succomb to the fevered heat by tearin' aff their apparel!!:D I know I do!!!:D Honest!!!
AJ, I answered you on the queen blog,
Anna, I put my twa pence to you on the Harry one
so, AJ, does that mean if you come to visit here, it should be in winter??!! ;))
No Melanie, I can be the epitome of decorum don't you know!!! I know when to keep ma clobber on!!:D
Have to go soon, but it's been good and lucky it's a quiet Friday!!:DD
Well, yes it's been a good Friday, although I was a bit late and slow to join in, ah well....very funny reading, made me laugh!!!! :))))
what a team!!!
I'll be around this weekend...if anyone can come out and play!! :D
Gosh, I am sleepy...I'm blaming the melatonin I took last nite!!
AJ, I'm glad your well-behaved in public, and I suppose I can say the same for myself!!!
Of course, Peajay and Anna are always well-behaved and excellent role-models!!! :DDD
Well, except for the time in that pub with the Guinness contest, Peajay; and Anna, with her rum and coke on the Conga line.....
Anna,
your William Wallace is back under another name....he says hello, and wants to chat!!!!!!! ;DD
on the harry blog, #147 !!!!! ;)))
Yeah I saw him Melanie... I think he might have a few different names!
Possibly Ashley is one of them as well!! What do you think?
I've added a comment about the auld goat Corbie to the Queen blog!!
Btw: AJ.... I'm not sure if they're joking or not but some of our American posters seem to be taking your comments about the Balmoral's standards of cleanliness a bit seriously. I hope the Balmoral people don't see it...... you could be sued for loss of business!!! :D
Melanie
I saw your comment about not reading the Harry Potter books.....
Please don't take this question the wrong way ..... but is it because you are a Christian?
I know some Christian books don't like the 'black magic' element of the books and one of my close friends is anti for that reason.
I respect her principles although I don't agree with her reasons for disliking the books....... as in my opinion they are a reaffirmation of the age old battle of good versus evil.
You don't have to answer if you don't want to I'm just being nosey!! :D
Mel,
I noticed those posts about the hotel:))) I reckon they're for laughs....well I hope so anyway!!:D
Anna,
Ya nosey bitch!!:DDD
AJ
Ya cheeky divil..... :))
Btw: saw you on the Bush withdrawal (poor Laura :)) thread... with all the Neocons and pacifists.... what is this OGC that they keep going on about!!
I see your old folks gang is on there.... are you still having secret trysts with them?
Sorry if I'm being a nosey bitch again.... but I just can't help it ...... its the way I'm made!!! :D :D :D
Hope the Balmoral sues the ass of you btw!! :D :D :D
Hi Anna,
No, I not been in contact with them for ages - Finnking and TSW2 are two of them. Pretty serious guys, but Finnking is certainly a talented writer.
Melanie,
Don't read that particular story, cos I'm really taking the P out of the American far right!!!:)))
Anna,
Do you and the Vicar's wife destroy the entire population of your village over a cup of tea and cream buns?:D
I think the Balmoral should try and win my custom, by giving us the Penthouse Suite to try for a week!!! Lets face it, that's what would happen to you....ya annointed so and so!!!!:DDD
"Do you and the Vicar's wife destroy the entire population of your village over a cup of tea and cream buns?:D "
Yes .... :D
Someone on that thread (don't look Melanie!!) now thinks that you are a supporter of WMD to enhance the American economy!!
You're right Finnking is a good writer .... what are the OGC that they are on about tho' ? It sounds dead sinister!!
I tell you what AJ... if I win a weekend for 2 in sunny Edinburgh courtesy of the Balmoral Hotel ..... I'll pass it on to you .... cos that's what cyber mates are for!!!!
Aye right!!! :D
Anna,
I can only surmise OGC is some sort of American internet surveillance organisation!! But that could be complete bollocks!! There also seems to be a suggestion that IP addresses can be seen when posting....that's possible!!! However I don't think the comment boards are exactly at the hub of international espionage...do you? :DDDD
They and us, are all mad!!:D
Anna,
I'll hold you to that, but if the Penthouse is big enough, we could all go!!! But don't do a 'Shrek' in the communal bath!!:D
I know ... there are a few nutters on there but I don't buy into all the surveillance thing.... maybe we're the ignorant fools tho? :)
Altho' I did read that during the last Lebanon/Israel punch up the Israeli's were monitoring websites and sending their 'agents' in whenever the debate got too anti-Israel..... maybe the powers that be in the US do that as well!!!
Cue scary music!!! :D
Btw: When we were sat about Kuala Lumpar airport waiting for our delayed flight some awful loud and very rude Lebanese people sat near us. They were really horrible and arrogant to a couple of the Malaysian staff there... and we knew they were from Lebanon because they had bags with 'Duty Free in Beirut' written on them!!!
What a slogan to carry about on your bag!! :D
More likely to be Palestinian Lebanese these days!! Did they get on your flight? The things that go through one's mind these days!!!
No I think they were going to Oz and transitting thro' KL ... hopefully they didn't let them in!
Ooh that was a bit awful but you know what I mean!
We met a few nice Aussie Shelia's and Bruce's ..... very friendly and to be honest a couple of the younger men gladdened my auld eyes and did my heart good!!.... as they would say in Neighbours... they were 'spunks'!!! :D
I noticed Mr A pulling his tummy in a bit when they walked past our loungers!!! :D
Mind you he had his eyes knocked out by some of the Malay women.... they were really beautiful and so elegant and graceful.... I avoided walking next to one!!! :D
Well, howdy, just in from errands!!
I have to admit the South East Asian women are particularly beautiful, but aint the blokes a bit shifty?:D
I suspect MrA has a good collection of 'accidental holiday snaps'!!!:DDD
Hi Mel,
Wotcha get? Some giant pretzels and Orios?
Sorry!!:DD
I gotta big fat watermelon and some big juicy steaks for some BBQin!!! :D
hmmm, the things you want to know about me.....nosy, nosy, ;)
help...I'm being besieged by children...I can't focus...but I m u s t p o s t this l ast sen tnce...I'll be right back!
I know, but the picture I've built up is pretty cool....I should just call you Angelina!!:DDD
Hi Melanie....
Whatever you do don't look at the Bush withdrawal (aren't he and Laura a bit old to be practising safe sex?) thread.....
AJ
If there's a jacuzzi in the Balmoral penthouse suite .... your wind problem should be covered by that !!! :D
Yes, Mr A did take a lot of photos!! :D
oh, c'mon, that's like saying please look at that thread!!! ;))
so, which one is it??!! :DD
Oh ok .... if you insist... its in the Int section ...second article about the US staying in Iraq to the bitter end or something!! :D
AJ.... that'll learn ya!! :D
Anna, it's okay, Mel knows I'm jist jokin'........:(
Anyway, it's moved on to curries and ice cubes!!!:D
So, AJ...i will have to read this now....as I'm not really into politics...but I am patriotic...where's mah long rifle....
Yeah I noticed that the tone of the thing had been completely lowered with your references to your botty problems!!
Round ice-cubes... you're a Scotsman for crying out loud ... what's wrong with the old traditional method of a thistle head which has been frozen in a Highland loch for a few hours?
What a wimp!! :D :D :D
what?? is AJ having trouble sitting down?? is that what the frozen toilet rolls were for....not open combat??
Anna,
I've got a problem with a prickly thing near ma bum!!!:)))
Mel,
I surrender...don't shoot!!! Hands Hoche!!:D
C'mon ovah here, prisoner...let me have at cha! ;)
AJ is experiencing a thing that we call Montezuma's Revenge... i.e you have eaten a hot and spicy (in this case) curry and your botty is burning.
Its also known more crudely as burning bum syndrome whilst sh**ing thro' the eye of a needle :D
Sorry if that was a little crude for your ladylike ears ..... but you did ask ... Melanie!! :D :D
Where'd I miss that confession??!!
....small towel wet, in the freezer for a bit, and there ya go, nice compress....gotta love the food that burns twice...whoooo!!!
Further up that thread ... round about the 170s I think!!
Anyway guys ... gotta go ... beddybyes
Speak to you soon, take care of your bot AJ...and enjoy your watermelon and steak Melanie... it sounds yum!! :D
Peajay .... where are you? :) Hope to chat again soon!!
nite Anna! :)
AJ, where you at, sugah?!
Peajay.................... :)
G'nite Anna...get Mr A to put the after sun on ya!!! You don't want to peel like a banana in the morn!!:))
Hi Mel, I reckon Peajay's had one look at all this, and chucked her laptop oot the windae!!:D
Are you really in such terrible pain dear??!! I do comiserate, but I have my limits at kissing things and making them better!!!
AJ, what was the joke you were referring to, with Finnking??
I can't stand being late to the party!!! and here I thought you guys wouldn't be on tonite!!! :(
It's OK, I just made my posterior problem up, just to shift the direction of the debate for a bit!!!:D
However, you're a wee bitty selfish when it comes to lookin' efter the men folk!!;))
The joke was a refernce to an old comedian called Ronnie Corbet...don't worry I didn't get it either, until he mentioned it!!!:))
Well, you did have curry lately!!!
I was wondering!!!
now, now, calling me selfish..... :)
I've had curry the last two nights, but tonight's had creme fraiche in it...jist to cool things doon a tad!!!:))
I've no idea what that meal is!!?? Sounds very, well, creamy.......
so, was that me you were referring to as Angelina??!
twas you Mel!!!:D It's a compliment!!:DD
ah, then okay... :))
So, whatch up to?? Are yer girls safely tucked into beddy-by and yer up bein the nite owl??!
I answered you on the queen blog but i was kinda sassy with my patriot ancestor reference towards the monarchy! :)
so, what about Angelina do you like.... ;D
Mrs AJ is oot visiting her pal and wee Mish Mash is safely tucked up in bed!!!:)
I'm actually trying to study, but that's gone for a burden!!:D
I particularly like Angelina's lush lips, her dual sexuality and loose morals!!;)))
I'm jist aboot tae pack up Mel, so I'll speak to you the morn for sure...if yer aboot!!:))
Gnite you!!:))
studying?? You should have gone out with Mrs AJ for the progress you've made tonite!!!
It's nice Mrs AJ gets out...there's not many places to go out here...that's safe anyway...as in the SgtMjr would let me go!! :(
If I lived down by my sis-in-law or gal pal...nearer LA I'd probably go out more..but then maybe not....I enjoy being home!! :D
so, you like that she's dual....;)))
oops, missed that you were signing off....we can take this up later
Stop naggin' wumin!!! I know I know!! It was Anna's fault!:D
It's only of interest Mel!!;)
of sociological and theoretical interest only, of course...we know you are strictly academically minded!!!
nite! :DD
Absolutely!!
AJ
What was Anna's fault? I get the blame for everything!! :D
Hope your bot's OK!! :D
Melanie.....
I thought your reply when he asked you to kiss it better was a model of restraint and tact!! :D
Sorry Melanie but I answered Lanna's republican rant with a 'loyal subject of the Queen' rant!!
We'll keep Queenie rather than have a Bush like president. We had enough of the delusions of grandeur of Blair and his clingon! :D
Hi Anna,
no problem....I've answered you as well! :)
as far as HarryP...right, I didn't go for the glamour of the witchcraft, and had heard the character development of the kids was less than desirable for behavior (that i wished my young children to have)...so I deferred letting my kids read it. Now that they're older, i don't have a problem...as they're at the age where you can discuss choices/consequences etc. I've personally just never been really interested in reading them.
I've replied back to you on the Queen blog.... nice idea for a world leader, Melanie, but I don't think we'll ever get it! :)
I've just been having a look at J K Rowling's website and she comments that Harry Potter is once again on the list of banned books. She considers it to be an honour to be in the same company as: Mark Twain, Harper Lee, J D Salinger and my own favourite author John Steinbeck.
"Every burned book enlightens the world" …. Ralph Waldo Emerson
I personally don't see the problem with HP especially the early books .... admittedly they get a little darker as the kids get older. I think the children's characters are well drawn and each book has a strong moral message about love, friendship, loyalty, the difference between right and wrong and that even in the bad times there is always hope ..... albeit in a 'slightly' different world to ours. :))
On a different note...... just wanted to mention a 'new' author I've discovered (for me anyway!!) .. Joseph O'Connor .. he's written a few books now ..but I've just finished his Star of the Sea which is about the an emigrant ship leaving Ireland for the US during the Great Potato Famine of the late 1840's. Its really good.... and I picked up the follow up in the airport 'Redemption Falls' so I'm looking forward to reading that one.
Speak to you later :)
Hi Anna,
Well, it's always as we wish it would/could be...but at least with our system there's a chance that any of our 'common born' has the chance to succeed! :)
I can't really say about the book/s being banned, as far as content, as I've not read them...I don't really believe that books should be banned...if questionable books are used in schools, they should be used in a list for extra credit reading and parents should be allowed to opt out.
There's always the 'teach into' factor, age appropriate, of course... as kids are going to see a lot in the 'real world'....I'd rather have my kids grounded in who they are and common sense/ability to judge things for themselves...than to live completely sheltered.
if certain books are banned... what might the 'powers that be' ban next??!! I'd rather be given the right to think for myself and judge whether I want/want my kids to read whatever book!!!
On a fun note....we had a stray cat keep her kittens under the porch...she's gone off, and one of the kittens was left behind....and is now making friends with my kids...we've been leaving food/h2o, and have been slowly gaining its trust....they've named her Kit! :))
The books aren't banned over here Melanie..... I think its just US ... bible belt states.
The good thing about our monarchy tho' is they are figureheads only and do not have any governmental powers....... we get to vote those divils out eventually!! :D
Not too keen on cats myself.. but I'm sure your 3 will enjoy playing with the kitten :)
When we were in Penang.. we went to one of the hawker markets for some food..... well there we were eating our noodles when this cat without a tail wandered by. "What's happened to that cat's tail?" says KK....... Mr A smiles a wicked smile at me and nods towards some meat in my bowl!!! Well, that was it for me I wasn't too keen on this particular food anyway and I couldn't eat anymore!!
But, I paid him back ..... we had to eat in the more expensive places like the hotel after that!! :D :D
Nite for now!! :)
...figures the bible belt! ;)))
(but they do have 'good intentions'!! :)))
Well, again I can't comment 'cause I haven't read the books....this may sound superstitious, but I do believe witchcraft is a viable option for some 'worshippers'...as in, it's real. So, I'm apprehensive that witchcraft is glamourized without being taught into the 'pros/cons' so to speak. I know the books are fantasy...but I've heard of crime scenes caused by kids into witchcraft, etc, and I always wonder what started them down that track. Anyway, just some random thoughts...
nite!! Hopefully speak with ya tomorrow!! :)
Watch oot Melanie, I've always said that Anna is an auld witch!!:DDD
Y'know all that Straw Man stuff in her village is pure devil worship....jist ask Christopher Lee!!!:D
AJ .... you bad lad ... you've given my secret away!! I'd have been chucked onto the ducking stool in an earlier age :D
If Auld Nick is looking for an apprentice I'll send him your way :)
Melanie.... I understand your concerns but I do think you've got the HP books wrong...... they don't glamourise witchcraft and JKR ... in my opinion....always underlines a good moral message that a lot of our kids (and adults) would do well to learn from.
Personally I see the HP books inhabiting the same genre as Tolkien and the old fairy stories of the Grimm brothers and Anderson. I have an early edition of old fairy stories (unedited and un PC) and they are gruesome by today's standards. I would not allow KK to read those versions ... until he is a little older....he would have nightmares. I don't have those qualms about the HP books.
Anyway..... we'll have to agree to agree a bit with each other on this one and disagree a bit as well :)
AJ
Are you causing trouble on the Scotsman today? :))
Hi Anna,
no problem about agreeing, agreeing to disagree, debating and discussing!!!! :DD
As I've said, I've only heard reviews, and yes they were from a Christian bias. I think they were emphasising the harry and the kids' undermining of authority and the use of witchcraft as a means to get what they wanted, regardless. It seems the lines between good and evil were somewhat gray, whereas Tolkien and Lewis had more defined good and evil with their characters. (I may have to read the books, yet...to give a more personal review!!! ;)))
Your fairy stories sound neat!! That's why I love old books, no PC, at least from our time....and it's like a glimpse into the past when you read the old books....of course, the style and language can be difficult, but neat all the same!
I like the sound of your
oops that trailing sentence was to be included with the neat old books....ah, I love the interruption of the little ones (Dr D going a mile a minute, and me with a foggy need my coffee at the moment morning!!!) :))
AJ, now don't make a reference to Anna's choice of Halloween costume as yet, we still have a few months to plan for that holiday!!! :))
Check out the Tintin story and the Queen story ..... seems as if Hunkey Dorey has decided to 'stalk' me!!
I thought he said he was William Wallace the other day!! ?
A stalker must be considered a compliment in oor cyber world!!!:D The fact someone goes out their way to try and annoy you is a pretty personal thing!!:D Look at all my attempts during the election to wind up that AM2!!! However it was me a 40 others!!!:DD
Was in the capital yesterday and Musselburgh too - had to take the straw oot ma hair and brush ma teeth!!!:D
Anna and Melanie, you both seem to have opposite views on the HP stories - I think the claws should be sharpened and you could go at it, hammer and tongs!!!!:D Sorry, it's just the voyeur in me!!!:D
Anyway, I've defended Anna's honour on the Tintin story!!! Not that she needs any defending!!:DDD
Thanks AJ.... you're my hero.... actually after reading your comments I had a warm, yummy feeling inside..... Cheers pal!! :D
Or could it have been the customary Scotch I used to rinse after brushing this morning!!:))
Anyway, we'll no doubt get back to heckling each other in due course... but when the chips are down.... its good to know that you're standing shoulder to shoulder with me!! Does that remind you of anything??? :D
I've got a feeling tho' that its because I ignored Hunkey's 'nice' comment to me on the Queen blog.... he's attention seeking!! :D
Causing any havoc anywhere today? I've not been able to get on here all morning.... too much paperwork to catch up on .... :(
Bugger, I wrote a big longt witty speel about Anna and crumpet and it got lost!!!!
Anyway, glad to be of assistance Anna!!:D The lad seems to be quite smitten by you - fluctuates between love and hatred, which are the classic signs of infatuation!!!:DD
It must be pleasing to know....you still 'have it' after almost 5 decades on the planet!!!:D
Forgive the typos, I seem to have severe finger problems today!! A bit like my latest essay, full of daft wee mistakes!!!:(
Anna,
What's the "shoulder to shoulder" thing??? Or am I just being thick?
AJ... sorry honey but yes you are being a bit thick!! :D
Surely you remember our beloved Tone @ No 10 speech post 9/11:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2001/09/12/nblur12.xml
Speak to you later...... :)
Oh yes, the stand together in adversity speech....yeah, we're jist like that!!:D Me, you, Melanie and Peajay - the Three Musketeers, with me as D'Artagnon (sp)!!!
Although the swashbucklin' bit is maybe beyond me!!! however, I could still see off the likes of Dorey/Wee Willie!!!!
It's great isn't?...what p*sh we type!!!:DDD
Are you buckling your swash as we speak?
Careful don't go throwing it around too much .... you might do yourself an injury!! :)
All for one and one for all!! :D
Saw you on the Wee Eck v GB blog..... had a chuckle at your 'blind devotion' to AS...... nobody seems to have taken you up on it tho' !! Maybe they thought you meant it!! :D
Did you?
If so, what happened to the cynical auld AJ.......?
Howdy!
hey, I like that musketteers idea....yep, that's the way it is alright!! :)))
will go get mah coffee....ya'll seem to be taking a break...
Hi Mel,
Perhaps our quartet should have a name, y'know secret society stuff - the Priory of Sion type crap!!!
The Order of the Suspender Belt...something like that!!!:DD
Anna, I was laying it on extra thick with the Wee Eck comments, but as you say, no takers!!:(
yes, but will we make up rules and sayings and secret codes...
Anna, I added to Corbie's remark backing ya up!! :))
AJ, did the fog lift and you're typing better now?? Esp as it's almost time to go home!! :)
Typing is always a problem Mel,I can't wait to get voice recognition software and also being 'beamed' to my work everyday, would be nice!!:D
I think we already have our secret code - don't think anybody could make head or tail of the rubbish we all write!!:D
We should get it published...... the ramblings of some 40 somethings...... now there's an idea!! ? :))
The weather blog appears to have become a natter about your kids board..... :))
No sign of Dave's Nemesis Canky these days.... have you heard from her AJ?
Thanks for the back up Melanie.... I'll go have a look .... I won't be blowing you a kiss tho' ...... I'm not that liberal and it would only send AJ all of a dither (or put him off his tea ....!!! ;D
Thanks... Melanie.... your comment is recipriocated!! :)
I think I'm going to cry :))
Cyber Lesbos - sounds like something out of Star Trek or Dr Who!!!:D
How many words do you reckon we've written since we started our daily dialogue? Y'know, Peajay has undoubtably written the least....but she always makes the most sense!!:D
Hi sorry,
had a chat with my gal pal who was droppin her son off for a play-day here...
Hi all,
Good to see you returned safely Anna and were allowed back into the country. :D Glad you had a good time.
Sorry for absence but been working my little what-nots off and going to bed exhausted. All finished now so back to chat mode.
Have a crack a HP book Melanie, as Anna says they really are a good read with good moral codes interwoven with fairly obvious good v bad characters. Most youth experimentation in witchcraft comes from peer pressure, most of my classmates at school had experimented with contacting the dead in one form or the other. I could never see the attraction myself and now of course I have AJ!! :D
Peajay... is not here as often as we'd like... but when she is .... we know about it :))
Peajay can be editor and sift through all the drivel we've written... there's not going to be a lot left is there? :D
That's more like the Peajay I've grown to love!!:D A quick poke in the eye with a very sharp stick!!:DDD
I thought you had 'grown' out of this blogging lark!!:D If only ...eh?
Peajay.... glad to see you here and on cracking form if I may say so :))
Melanie ..... Peajay has just reminded me of something I wanted to say about the HP books. If the critics that you read were American there could have been a clash of cultures, humours as well. The books have a very schoolkid British feel about them and so does the humour.... which is why a lot of people in the UK love them .... nostalgia!! :D
Altho' having said all that there are a lot of Americans who do like them...... I'm sure you'll be one of them because you 'get' our humour (such as it is!! :))
Thank you. You know I admire AJ really but it doesn't do to tell him 'cos he'll only get a swollen head to go with his swollen bum!! How is that region AJ, improved I hope or are you sitting on a cushion? :D
swollen things?! Peajay!!!
Hi sorry had to go...I currently have 6 children running wild in the house, and the SgtMjr home!! :o
hmmm, right about the book....past the editing there might be some interesting talk on historical subjects and a few recipes!!! :D
This is an Eve-ism:
"That's thanks to our anserours who refused to be North Brittish instead of Scottish (They made the right choice). Just like their perdersoutrs should make the right choice when it come and vote for independence."
OK...... I understand anserours (ancestors?) but what on earth are perdersoutrs?
Translation please AJ....... have you got any perdersoutrs? :D :D
Eve,
Bless her ... she's a tonic!! :D
I think predecessors...perhaps!!!
Eve's normally reasonably close, but not that time!!:DD
btw, Canky has given up the Scotsman to concentrate on a book that she's writing. She says she can't do both, which I think we can all understand!!:) She's also helping to renovate Shuggee's hoose in Rouen, but says the French tradesmen are a nightmare ( same in Scotland), and they're months behind schedule, but they 'move' next month!!:D
She also told me to convey her regards to you all!!
I keep contact through the youtube e-mail system...you guys should drop her an e-mail!! She still really funny, especially when she goes on about her garden and the French neighbours!!:D
Is Canky's book a work of fiction or otherwise?
Hi Peajay,
From what she tells me it's a work of fiction, but draws on her experiences in the hard bitten world of being a wifie!!!:D It's probably a cross between Rebecca, Trainspotting and the Exorcist, knowing Canky!!!:D
You're up with the lark this morning Peajay! Has the Murph recovered from the mutilation yet? :(
Hi AJ
Up with the lark was 6am. which is really depressing. :/
Murphy is doing fine but still feeling a little fruity (he remains fertile for up to 6 weeks). He doesn't have any stitches that need to come out, but he does require a large amount of hair to grow back just for decency. ;)
UUURgh...poor wee Murphy!!!
MrsAJ had a dog (now her Mums), that got 'sorted'....it made no difference,,,he just bounces higher and has a squeakier bark!!!:D
Hi all,
I bet Canky will write a good book... she was certainly an entertaining and funny read on the Scotsman....... I miss her input!
I remember when we had our male Westie 'dressed' (dog before this one).... Mr A felt it more than he did.... he really didn't want me to take him to the vets... and would have nothing to do with it. He still mentions it every now and again about me emasculating his dog.... maybe he's scared it might happen to him.... now where did I put that scalpel!! :D
Harvey (the dog) seemed OK afterwards.... altho' he did used to try and lick his 'bits' and then look at me a bit reproachfully afterwards...... or was that my imagination!! :)
The reason I had him done was because KK had arrived and the dog was OK when it was just the 2 of us but he could be a bit snappy (stroppy Jock!!!).... I couldn't risk that with my baby... so it was either off with the wotsits or out the door!! :D
Check out Hunkey Dorey today:
Its kind of sad in a way that he feels so inferior and left out:D

This is Murphy's last option and not a decision which was taken lightly. He is three years old and has been such hard work. Apart from the attacking of another dog he spent his days thinking of having his wicked way with Lara, who really didn't think of him that way (the age old story). The final straw came when I was driving them back from somewhere and he spent the entire journey trying to mount her, I'm sure the police officer won't take the distraction as mitigating circumstances for my speed rising above the suggested level. :(
Peajay
Sounds like the first time I drove on my own from Odiham, Hampshire to Whittlesey - M3, M25 and A1.... with a 8 week old screaming his head off KK in the back!!! I was zooming up that road :))
I had to pull over in the end ..... and the little cherub (?)looked at me smiled (it wasn't wind, honest,!!) and went to sleep for the rest of the journey to his doting Grandma's!! :D
" I was zooming up that road "
Well, as fast as you can zoom on the M25.... so about 40mph ... if you're lucky with stop, start, STOP!!!
Hi Anna,
You seem to push the right buttons with old Hunky Willie!!:D Isn't a great feeling - annoying someone so much they feel compelled to write such juvenile bile!!!:D
Hi Mel,
How's CA? Is it still baking?
Hi all!
sorry to hear Canky won't be joining us, at least at present
talk of snip snips and babies crying...! :)
posting anywhere?!
did you 'feel' me here AJ!! ;))
it's still baking :(((
....well, you could say I'm wishing to use my wellies!!! ;)
Hey wasn't that weird Mel....maybe we 'do' have a connection after all!!!;D
The 'wheech them off' conversation is making my eyes water!!!:(
sorry, I was called away from cyber-world momentarily!! SgtMjr's day off today...had to make some toast! :)
so, AJ...all that talking about snip snip!! don't worry, i think you're safe!! :)
So whatcha doin??!!
The work is getting in the way of ma posting today...not really had a chance since early morning!!! I need paid more!!!:DD
Got to pick up the Mish Mash soon, hopefully I'll get back on this evening, but Mrs AJ possibly will have plans for ma time!!:((
Wumin!!!!!:D
bye AJ, sorry I was pulled away as well!! ah, men!!! ;)
:D
Pouring down here today... off and on ... then, its really sunny... weird!!
I think Hunky Willie is like the old saying:
Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned,
Or hell a fury like a woman scorned....
Or in his case man, I presume.....
Crikey its hard work being so irresistable!! :D
Ah well, guess I better go and start the dinner!!
Just finished the pile of ironing that's been sitting in the corner since we got back off hols!! :))
Not very glam really!!! :D
I don't know Anna, there's something quite horny about a frustratated auld housewife!!:D
That obviously should be frustatatated!!!:D
Hi AJ, gals,
I haven't been able to chat here so much with the fam here at the mo. :( Hopefully, I'll be on later...the SgtMjr is here working at home today, so I may be drafted...and thus will explain my awol!! :))
btw, I'm hoping to take the tween to Gettysburg inbetween visiting with my eastcoast fam, this coming week....
http://www.nps.gov/gett/
historyculture/index.htm
:D ciao!!
Gettysburg... Melanie... I would love to go there!!
Don't forget to report back and I'll have a look at the website..... :)
The book I'm reading at the moment 'Redemption Falls' is the sequel to the Irish famine emigrant book 'Star of the Sea' Redemption Falls follows the Irish in the States and also covers the US Civil War.
Interestingly altho' most Irish immigrants fleeing oppression and starvation at home fought on the Union side ..... about 20,000 fought for the Confederates ... which is ironic considering that if the south had won the oppressed and sometimes starved slaves would not have been liberated. Interesting I think.... don't you?
AJ...
Who said I was frustatatated..... there's the postman, the window cleaner, the dustbinmen, any guy that happens to be walking up the street.... none of them are safe ... its one long smorgasbord (sp?)!!! nudge nudge ;) ;)
That is an interesting point, Anna, but the war was fought more for states' rights, and only as a second thought on the slave issue. So, maybe those Irish were into the freedom part of it...as in one's right to rule one's destiny in the form of self-government!! ;)
Lincoln had a nice place in Liberia, Africa for all the freed slaves to venture to...so the Union wasn't all about freedom and equality either!! ;)
Anyway, what's this about pent up housewives??!! AJ, yer mind has gone wild!!.....if you couldn't get the gals and I to go at a cat fight over Harry Potter, now you've got a slavering over the puir hunky day worker that falls into our clutches........where's that pool man gone to, anyhow??!! ;D
I know about the state's rights issue, Melanie... but a huge part of the state's rights of those that seceded from the Union was the right to keep slaves.
The planters in the south saw no other way of bringing in their crops .. sugar, cotton etc. The whole economy of the south was built on slavery and agriculture, which is why with the greater industrialisation and resources of the Northern states and their ability to seal up the southern states to prevent them selling their cotton to the British mills, made the eventual outcome of the war almost inevitable.
Gettysburg was the turning point and signalled the last real chance of the Confederate states to win the war.
I'm sorry but I think the whole issue of slavery is abhorrent and altho' I find the history of the Confederates to be the more romantic and interesting, I would have to come down on the side of the Union. Whatever, Lincoln's intentions emanicipation of the slaves did happen after the war and altho' it wasn't handled properly ... I'm sure their descendents would rather be freemen and women than shackled to a master.
The Irish who joined the Confederates probably did so for money and the hope of land. Far more Irish joined the Union army.
http://www.classic-literature.co.uk/american-authors/19th-century/abraham-lincoln/the-writings-of-abraham-lincoln-06/ebook-page-36.asp
Lincoln's letters about Liberia ..... judging by this primary source I don't think he ever had any intention of forcibly shipping the former slaves to Liberia.
Confederate propaganda?
Anna,
Mel's a Southern Belle, so she's, quite rightly, going to pore scorn over old Abe with his 'holier than thou' attitude!!!:)
One things for sure, Scotland did very well out of the American Revolution. Places like Dundee and the jute manufacturers supplied both sides!!!! Made a fortune - Broughty Ferry is full of the Jute Baron's mansions, civic building all over the place, built by 'blood money' from America!!!!
Anyway, have you been 'hit on' today yet??:D
Oh I realise why Melanie supports the Confederacy and if I could get over the thorny issue of slavery I would to. But, I'm sorry ... I have to support 'those dammed Yankees' in the end......because of, what I see as the true evil of slavery. No matter how nice people in the south were their entire society was built on the blood and suffering of others, even those that did not actually own slaves had an economy built on it.
All men are created equal under God ......
I do have some socialist principles you know!! :D :D
No sign of Hunky yet... but a guy called Alan Christie from Leith has been nice to me on the Boris board :)
I'm reluctant to encourage him ... look how Hunky Willie turned!! :D :D
I'll check out the Boris blog, but don't you go upsetting 'my'Melanie!!!:D
There were plenty of slaves in the North - white and black!!! The whole place was built by forced labour!! However, the overall turn of events was a positive outcome, but I would think there was a large dose of hypocrisy prevalent in the Union!!!
Right...I'll go and check this latest Anna stalker out!!:D
AJ... I admire your loyalty, however may I recommend a book which I bought in the US.
Don't Know Much about the Civil War by Kenneth C Davis.
One question he puts is:
"Even so the Civil War was clearly a war fought because of African slavery. All the other justifications come down to political differences reflecting the social and cultural gulf between the free and slave states that might have been bridged if not for the deeply divisive issue of slavery. One way to approach this issue is to turn the question around: Without the division slavery caused, would the Confederate states have seceded from the Union?"
He goes on to remark that the Civil War has never really ended and there is still a deep racial divide in the US.
Delaware is the only slave owning state that did not secede from the Union.
Now, you can ally yourselves with the rebels if you want to .... but please some facts not emotion.
"There were plenty of slaves in the North - white and black!!! The whole place was built by forced labour!"
Now you know I agree with that comment... however, at least those workers were paid (such as it was) and they were not sold away from their families. Your comment could apply equally well to any country in the world (especially this one) where the oppression and exploitation of the masses has been to the benefit of a small elite ruling class. However, African slavery took that concept to an even more extreme and cruel dimension.
I will not stand down on this issue..... just one of the many things I feel strongly about.
My great love is social history.... and the way people were oppressed and how they have evolved. :)
Irish, Scottish, English, French, the Jews and the slaves of the US :)
Anyway, sweetie pie .... I've also commented on the George Galloway story....
Boris and George G ... certainly lend an element of comedy to politics!! :D
Anna,
I repect your principles as always, but the geographical circumstances of the US meant the very large plantations were in the south, if it was possible the North would've employed the same ethic with regards the slaves. However, that's as maybe, but each side was certainly as ruthless as the other, the North invented 'Total War' and death and destruction rained down on an unprecendented scale!! As I said, the final outcome was positive in terms of humanitarian issues, but. as you said, the war has created division which still exist today!!
I think we do agree on this, but don't blame me for protecting young Melanie!!!! She's special!!!:D
AJ
I know we agree on this ... I've spoken to you for too long now... to think anything else.
I'm sure that Melanie is also very uncomfortable indeed with the slavery issue... I know her well enough now ... to be aware of her fine humanitarian principles.
I just like to argue.... surely you know that about me by now? :D :D :D
Btw: Sweet as it is... Melanie will be pleased by your support but .... she can well hold her own with me...... that's why I enjoy our debates!! :D
I see you've changed your name back to an AJ of Fife type one... Did Corbett get booted off again? Or did you want to reinstate your old moniker?
I wanted to be 'ME' again!!!:DD
It's my eighth incarnation!!!:D
Melanie will be chuffed to see me 'protecting' her!! I could be in for some fresh and hot apple pie later!!!;)
Does MrA have an Ipod?
Melanie will be ecstatic.... you'll be bathed from head to toe in hot treacle ;)) She might even offer to lick it off..... ;))
Too much?
She'll probably just shoot me with her six-shooter!! :D :D :D
Gotta tell you this story.
KK came home with a new pencil yesterday.... so I said where'd you get that from, he told me a litte girl in his class called Lucy gave it to him.... the dialogue went something like this:
"If you let me be your girlfriend, I'll give you this pencil" said Lucy.
"Hmmm" says KK (cause he wants the pencil).. "I've already got a girlfriend, you can be my second girlfriend if you want"
"OK" says Lucy and hands over the pencil!!
Do you think he'll have that much success with women when he's older!! :D What a chat up line ... you can be my second girlfriend... he'll get a handbag in the face for that one!! :D
Treacle!!!!
That's what I'd call a 'sticky end'!!!:D
KK obviously has a way with the women!!! He learn to cut out the complete honesty in such conversations!!!:D I bet it's his tan that's doing the trick!!!:D
Funnily enough Mish has a wee boy friend too - she's joined at the hip with a wee chap called Euan at the nursery!!:)) She was cuddling her wee cousin at the weekend too, but she poked him in the eye over who got to play with the peddle car!! :))
Isn't it funny how innocent they are.... KK has me in stitches sometimes with the things he comes out with!! :D
Glad to hear Mish isn't going to let a wee man push her around.... if she wants to be the driver she will!! Good girl :D :D
Mr A hasn't got an Ipod btw... he was going to get one but now he's decided to get one of those ones which is a TV screen and player as well .... I can't remember what they're called.....
Why?
Bit of 'flag waving' going on with the Saltire story .... I'm sure the Scotsman only put those provocative stories on to let the usual suspects have a rant!! :D
It was something you said.....about liking an argument!!!!:D Ipods are a good way of obliterating the sound of a nagging wumin......!!!:D
He does that..... he sticks his headphones into the computer and listens to his beloved Kate Bush screeching away!!
More tuneful than my screeching I suppose!! :D
My Grandad used to have a hearing aid which he used to switch off when my Nana started nagging him!! :D
He also drank a bottle of rum and replaced it with cold tea... which was served up to the Minister one day as a 'wee nip Minister to keep the cold out'.... my Nana was mortified.... Grandad's hearing aid was off for ages over that one!! :D
Did the Minister complain!!!?? What a cheek!!! He must've been a Wee free!!:D
For me, I think if it was a choice between Kate Bush and you....it would have to be you, no matter the GBH of the ear'oles!!:D
Is it a Blackberry thingy he's thinking about?
Thanks AJ... :))
Do you know there's always been 3 people in mine and Mr A's relationship/marriage.... me, him and ruddy Kate Bush!!
He cherishes a signed photo of her ... which he's had for donkey's years. It used to be on his bedroom wall in his single days.... but its slowly found its way into ..... the attic!!!! Revenge is sweet!! :D
I have to say I do quite like some of the 'Hounds of Love' album .. but he's potty about all her stuff!! :D
My grandparents were living in Stow in the Borders when that happened ..... so it would have been the Minister from the kirk on the top of the little hill that my Nana (not Grandad!!!) went to most weeks.
I remember going with her once.... thought it was a bit boring but my Nana was a good, devout one so she pushed me to my knees and kept me right!! :D
She was lovely ..... but very 'godfearing'!! :D
"Is it a Blackberry thingy he's thinking about? "
Don't know but he was chatting to a bloke on the plane home who had the thing he wanted!! The guy turned out to be a copper .... so we told KK to keep quiet about the pirate DVDs...... you know the Caribbean ones!!! :D :D
Oh well, whatever floats his boat!! I certainly had a 'thing' for Linda Ronstadt when I was wee....not to mentioned several dozen others!!:D
On a different subject, I just purchased a book at the weekend called 'The Reivers'!! Looking forward to reading it, I bet it would be right up your street, given your ancestry!:)
Here it is:-

Synopsis: Only one period in history is immediately, indelibly and uniquely linked to the whole area of the Scottish and English Border country, and that is the time of the Reivers. Nowhere else in Britain in the modern era, or indeed in Europe, did civil order break down over such a wide area, or for so many years. This book tells the remarkable story of the Reivers and how they made the Borders. AVAILABLE JUNE 2007
Meant to say it's published by Birlinn press in Edinburgh - a good source of Historical material!! They published all the course books of my course!!:)
You've had a bit of a response on the Saltire story Anna....go kill!!!:D
One of the most impressive sights in our cyber world, is Joanna, Cambs taking apart a smart Alec political poster, who has misinterpreted the fiesty one's stand point!!! It's always a joy!!!:DDD
That Zoom character writes a good post but he seems a wee bit obsessed .... don't you think?
Tru Scot.... is a sniper without anything original to say.
I quite like Connaughtboy he can usually muster a good argument.
Methalion's drawings are great.... very clever!
I'm going to look that book up on Amazon .... it sounds right up my alley!! :D
That's what people forget... the Borders were a country all of their own at one time... with far more in common with each other that either Scotland or England.... one of my aunties is an Armstrong... and they were one of the very powerful Border families (I think she's a poor relation, probably wrong side of the blanket!! ) :)
I really think you should destroy the Tru-Scot chappie - mention the Scottish education system which doesn't seem to have had an effect on him!!;)):DD
My pal is a Maxwell and he has a friend who is a Johnstone and everytime they're out they bring up the old feuds in the West Marches!!! Really entertaining stuff, I'm in stitches at the pair of them!!:D
Aye the Armstrongs - I think they were very politically aware and changed colours a few times!!! Of course good old James VI & I stopped the fun!!!
My pal took me to Caerlaverock Castle in Dumfries - the Maxwell Clan seat - and he believes it's rightfully his!!!:D
How cool was that "just returned from the Far East"!!!:D
I wonder if Tru-Scot gets the subtlety of your post!!!By the looks of things, I doubt it!!:D
Nah... he probably scares people into liking him by being a really aggressive c u jimmy, heid banger type!! :D
Met that kind before.... scary yes..... but I'd be fighting a losing battle trying to convince and any insults would be beyond his ken.....unless they were of a 'punch in the mooth' type.
Anyway ..... I'm going to have to get some stuff done tonight... so I don't think I'll be around later.... so I've retired from the Scotsman for the night :))
You posting anywhere else?
I think he'll feel suitably thick by the time he read your posts!!:D
I've posted on the golf one on the Scotland section and there's a good sexual health story in the Health section!! Some male chauvenistic but witty posts so far!!! It could be a job for Anna!!:D
So, is that you offski Anna? It's been quite a prolonged chat today, but very enjoyable non-the-less!!:))
Sex..... I'm on my way!!! :D
How could I miss that!!
Go to it girl!!:DDD
Actually yeah... I'd better go and do some work... I've been skiving a lot today!
Enjoyed the chat very much though!!
Speak to you later!!
PS If you look at Gangarene's You Tube I've put the Doubledeckers song on that you were on about!!
See ya Anna!!:D
Anna,
ya can't leave yet!!!!! I just woke up, and am here.....my lots a readin to do!!!
Hi AJ, Peajay!!
Ah, well.....too much red wine and card playin last nite....slept in and missed the chat....woooo is me!!! ;)))
Hi Mel,
You catch up and I'll recieve my present later!!!:)))
See ya all later - it's Mish Mash time!!!:)
bye AJ!!
present??!!....hmmm, what shall I wrap in a big blue bow?!
Do you really need to ask that question Melanie, you know it just gets the auld boy going!! :D
hi all! sorry, been busy getting things in order.
AJ, thank you for defending me, yer a sweetie!! XXX (and that's not meaning, here's some 'moonshine'!! ;))
Anna, I was feeling feisty when I wrote that Civ War piece!! I'm well aware of the atrocities of slavery, and am glad that was put to an end. I used to be more up on the minute details of the states' rights issues etc, but I'm well aware that slavery did play a big part in it. I will take a leap and say that I do believe our Federal gov was never meant to be this big, and this controlling...but that is for a different day to discuss!! (plus I need to do some reading (the above mentioned book sounds interesting) before I can entertain a healthy debate!! ;))
I only have one great granddad that was a Yankee(Pennsylvania);...My Tenn. great gran was disowned from her family for marrying him, because he was a Yankee.
...I'm not sure of my N. Carolina family, but my Tenn family lost a great deal because the South lost the war. They were some of the founding families of E. Tenn, and yes, they owned slaves. Some were just over from Ulster but apparently they didn't mind the slavery issue.
Anyway, lots of bitterness there, but my grands wouldn't talk about it much. On a good note, my grandmother, and her brothers were welcomed by the family despite their mother's ban, and I think later on some 'fences' were mended.
Sorry about the longwinded response, and it wasn't into depth with political/social concepts...just shared a little of what I grew up with, the details can be debated later!! :DDD
"My great love is social history.... and the way people were oppressed and how they have evolved. :)" .....snap!!
I've a book on my shelf that is on the list to read...I think I'll take it on the plane with me...it'll either be a great 5 hour read, or I'll sleep really well!!! ;DD It's called "The Cousins' Wars" by Kevin Phillips. It connects the English Civ war, Am Rev War and the Am Civ war, as each seeding the next.
Anyhoo...time for me to go watch the telly with the fam...I should be on in my morn to wish ya'll adieu!!
Peajay, but of course I wish to get Shrek going, he's so much fun when he gets worked up!!!!!
...and, as he's replacing the pool man, the fix-it man, and the postie for us....he's got to stay energized!!!! ;DDDDDDD
Melanie
Thanks for your reply.... I wasn't haven't a dig at you on a personal basis... but you know that (I hope!)..
There were good slave owners as well.....I am a huge admirer of Robert E Lee (& Traveller of course!!).... he owned slaves but Marse Robert was, by all accounts, including some of his slaves and their descendents.... a good man. I think he had problems with the concept of slavery, the society he lived in and his personal morals.... but at the end of the day he was a Virginian first and foremost and when Virginia needed defending .... he answered the call.
That is the point I think.... people weren't fighting for the confederacy perse... they were fighting for their state ... which are the same size or much bigger than most European countries. It was the same with a British person fighting for this country when it was attacked by a foreign power.
As I said before if it had not been for the vexing issue of slavery .... I would be a Confedrut!!!:D
Btw: Were your relatives fleeing the famine when they left Ulster..... I know there was famine in that region, but it was not as devasting as that of the west coast and south of Ireland (including Donegal). Were they Ulster Scots or Irish Catholics.... they did well to rise to slave owing status, in such a short period, if they were the starving immigrants of the coffin shops. The Ulster Scots were on the whole much more wealthy as they were not penalised and victimised for their religion which was Protestant.
I agree with you about the Federal government being too big, hjwever, there were not as many 'real' states during the Civil War, that came later ... as you know :)
I think the Confederacy was built on sand, any economy or society, which relied so completely on slavery was doomed by history to fail... look at the Roman Empire, to which it has been compared. If the south had been prepared to abolish slavery and use another system.... then maybe there would have been no war, but with the size of the plantations and the mindset of the planter class... (which had a lot in common with the French and British, mainly English, aristos!!) this was never going to happen.
Anyway, I envy you going to Gettysburg ... it has long been on the list of world heritage sites I would live to visit. :)
I've heard of the book you refer to .. but I haven't read it.... I'll wait and see whether you think its worth it :))
How sweet is AJ.... defending you? Mind you, the cynic in me sometimes wonders if he is playing Devil's Advocate and trying to keep the pot boiling!!! :D
Commented on the single parent story and the miserable royal cow Anne story :D
Also had a pop at Dragonhead on yesterday's flag story.... no doubt he'll do his 1960's RSM act and shout his head off!! :D
He cannot see what a parody he is... he has spent a lifetime serving and possibly killing for the flag that he now claims to hate. He would most certainly have killed Chinese people if he had been ordered to. Makes me laugh :D :D
Whatcha doing AJ? :))
Hi Anna,
I notice you've been'active' this morning!!:) I put my tu'penny worth in to the Anne story too!!! I made it very abusive, hopefully will get a good reaction!!:D
I saw you on the flood story...what about Lanna's joke!!!:DD
Me! the devil's advocate!!! never!!!:D
Are you working today or are you doing housework?;)
I'm working later ... got to go in soon actually.... so I'd better push off and get ready!! :D Put my lippy on etc ... can't let the side down!!
I've commented on the ship story, bit more serious that one and the childcare one.... also having a chat with the mad 'un Mario on the heart attack in 15 mins story!! :D
I really can't stand sour faced Anne (can't even bring myself to give her a title).... so feel free to slag her off as much as you like.... rude old bag that she is... takes after her auntie I think!!
Talk about noblesse oblige....I've seen both of them on royal tours of RAF Stations and they were both stuck up and snotty.
Princess Di was lovely and the Queen was very nice.. gracious but warm!! :D
Mind you, if Anne cracks a smile, those gnashers are dangerous!!!:D Count Dracula doesn't have set of choppers as lethal as those beauties!!!:D
Do ever find you go over the same old jokes, time and time again?!!! Still makes me chuckle tho'!!:D
Haven't commented on anything serious, although I've put the boot into Gary Player and Colin Montgomerie on the golf blogs!!!
Hello all!!
I promise I will answer all and any questions when I return...I will no doubt have two full day's worth of reading here at least!! :DD
Anna, if you give me a 'safe' address, I'd love to send you a postcard!!! ;)))
xoxoxoxoxox
Take care Melanie, and keep yer chin up!!:)
If it was me, it would be 'chins'!!!!:D
Anna,
You didn't half give old Dragonhead a kicking!!!:D
Melanie... let me know when you're on and I'll leave you my email....!! :D
I'll delete it quickly so AJ... doesn't see it.. don't want him stalking me!! :D :D :D
How you doing AJ....
I've met people like Dragonhead... all wind and watter!! He remains me of one of those Army meatheads who do a lot of blustering and shouting and ....... that's it.
On another note one of the nicest SWO's I ever knew was an ex Scots Guard RSM (from Edinburgh) called Robbie who transferred to the RAF when he'd done his 22 in the Army. He was lovely.... but he used to put the fear of God into anyone foolish enough to transgress the rules and was a sight to behold on the parade ground, blimey he could shout ...... but a really smart man whose boots were like a mirror!!
You been creating havoc anywhere?
Summer holidays have begun!! Me and KK were singing Alice Cooper's Schools Out on the way home!!!
Melanie, send me Anna's address so I can start harassing her with bagpipe music!!!:D
Anna, my late uncle was the Regt Sgt Mjr with the Black Watch and he scared the sh*t out of me...mind you I was 7 or 8 when died, but my memories are of a particularly scary man!!:)
I've not been able to get going with the Scotsman today...seems to happen all too often these days!!! Do you get cyber viagra? If I was loaded with red wine it might be a different story!!:D
School hols eh!! So are you now the official entertainment officer for the next 7 weeks?:D
Was the Malaya trip the 'official' family holiday, or are you going somewhere else?
Lucky so and so.....:DDD
Posting is so much more fun with vino in hand!!! ;)))
so, ya liked my noah comment??!
just looked at the weather....looks like thunder and lightening storms...so I think I'm in for a looooonnnngggg possible outing! (if there's a detour) :(
(I'm hopefully still flying into Philly)
AJ,
your uncle does sound formidable...did he drag you out of bed at o'dark thirty to march about the yard, for fresh air, exercise, and good discipline for a young man, etc??! ;))
AJ,
I don't want to get distracted, and forget and leave my e-mail for the world to see....can you brief Anna, later, please??!! x
I will Melanie, nae problemo!!!:)
Luckily for me, unluckily for him, he was struggling with ill health (died at 63) when he should've been giving me a clout round the old lug'ole!!:) My cousin used to tell me of the horror stories - RSM belt about 4 inches thick and a baton that could amputate a limb with one swoosh!!!! He wasn't one for exaggerating!!:D
So....are ye aw set for the trip?!!! Checklist:- toothbrush, sweeties, hair brush, toilet roll, revolver, mace spray, tween.....etc!!!:D
Brief me AJ? Is there a secret? :D
Have a good trip Melanie :))
Oh, AJ, I love traveling, but I hate that feeling of 'what have I left behind', and did I pack the right clothes, enough clothes, etc...I don't know, maybe it's a female thing!! The SgtMjr just says something to the point of...ah, just do without or buy it there..etc !!! :)
Anna, I had my email up for a bit for you, but I didn't want to forget and leave it there...AJ will fill you in, or Peajay can...meanwhile, I'll be looking for a smashing post card for you and Peajay!
....AJ, do you want one too?? I'll send it to your office, or to your best friend's house!!!! :DDD
ciao amigos!! :)x
Ciao... Melanie have a good time :))
Btw: the luggage thing is a female issue...... I have the same problem.... and I nearly always get wherever and wish I'd brought something which I took out of the case!! :D
AJ next time we're chatting you can pass me the email.... this is like spies isn't it?
Do you want mine... .I know yours!!! :D
Hi Anna,
Did you get my address off the Daily Mash? That was a mistake on my part:) But what the hell, I don't get any dodgy e-mails, so far!!! You're welcome to ping me a message and I'll sort ye oot with Melanie's address!!:)) I tried to contact you through our youtube accounts, but I assumed you thought better of it!!:D Can't say I blame you!!:D
Some bad news this morning - 3 RAF killed by a mortar in Basra!!! Two Regt and one other!!! I know a few lads who are out there at the mo!!:( We don't know the identities yet:((
Oh that's bad news AJ.... dreadful... poor families. I hadn't heard about that... :(((
I saw your email address on that Flckr thing of Melanies!! But I've forgotten it now.....
Was that you trying to contact me on Youtube? I had some in my inbox but I thought it was just the site operator so I deleted them unread! :D
Try again...... if you're on in the next 5 mins I'll post my email!!
Saw your post on the internet Scotsman site thing... so I've replied to you .... :))
They are better than the Telegraph, Times or Daily Mail because all of those moderate your post before they publish... and the Daily Mail hardly ever publish any posts.
Am here!!!!
Anna,
Miraculously, even YOU aint posh enough for the Daily Mail!!:D
I've pinged Mel's address with Youtube to you!!! Don't delete it!!!:)
Hiya AJ & Anna
Hope all are well.
Sorry about the RAF casualties, I pray it's no-one you know AJ, but someones grieving again tonight.
Good morning all, hope everyone's ok this morning.
Morning Peaja:))
How are you? I have done a very noble thing today.... desperate as I am to learn the fate of Harry Potter and his pals ..... I have let Mr A... read it first. It arrived this am from Amazon (can't be bothered to wait in queues!).
Mr A is also a big fan altho' I introduced him to the books but he is working next week and I am not (KK on hols), so I've let him read it first. I'm quite taken aback by my own generosity!!.
I'll start tutting at him soon and muttering "Get a move on"!! :))
KK is reading the first one :)
Are you planning on reading No 7?
Hi Peajay,
I well, but I can't speak for Anna!!! Probably on the gin last night and has a throbber this morning!!!
Thanks for your concern yesterday, the whole base seemed to feel it. I'm sure Anna would have a sick feeling too!!! Losing three RAF is rare in the conflict. All the casualties are horrendous, but when they potentially impact directly, you feel different!:((
How's you anyway...craft fair tomorrow?
Oh hi Anna:))
Mrs AJ's pal was in a queue last night at ASDA!!! Pure mental, so it is!!! Haven't read any of the books, but I suspect I will in the coming years:)))
Hi AJ....
They are good books.... and I have found them very enjoyable :))
I wonder if JKR will write an adult's book now... I bet she could pen a cracking whodunnit. Mind you, with 500 million + its not like she needs the money so she might not bother!
Yes, very sad about the RAF guys killed ..... :( I always feel sorry when any service people are killed but it always cuts deeper when it is the RAF :(
Whatcha doing today..... its raining here (again!)... have to say we were a bit concerned last night because it threw it down... but Mr A went to check the dyke (fen canal) near us and it wasn't that high.... we have seen it higher! So, he managed to get some sleep .... :)) and didn't have to start filling sandbags!! Mind you, it is awful for those people who have been flooded I feel so sorry for them..... must be horrendous.:(
How's the situation in Herts, Peajay?
Answered your Youtube message AJ btw :))
Sorry, if I sent that message twice btw... AJ.... but my hotmail was playing up a bit! :D
Anna,
Hot male playing up?;)
Could you be potentially flooded? We've been lucky up here, yesterday was quite a decent day and today is overcast but dry!! Which means it's time to mow the lawn!!!Humdrum or what??
PS if the sea levels rise we're screwed!!:D So far, despite icecaps the size of Greenland melting, the sea level in the local harbours is the same as it was 150 years ago!!! I wonder what happens to all the melt water!!!???
The words "lot of baloney" springs to mind!!!:)
Haven't recieved anything yet Anna, they must be too rude or abusive and didn't make it past my, very open minded, web filter!!!:D
AJ
Well that is odd.... the one to Melanie..has been sent... and it says the 3 I've sent to you have gone ... but they don't appear in the 'sent box'...... the one to Melanie does....
Have you got anti-hotmail filters on your 'puter?
Whittlesey has flooded in the past.... because the River Nene is tidal here... but they have spent millions on new drainage systems and tidal locks .... so fingers crossed!!! :)
Altho' bits of our garden have a tendency to flood in heavy rain... which is why we have grass and gravel with just a little bit of blockpaving on the patio.... but no enormous areas of concrete etc.
AJ gets the 800!!!:)
Sometimes e-mails can be like that, plus yahoo and hotmail are the ultimate in e-mail competition!! I once typed my yahoo address into my log in for my hotmail account by mistake, and it caused some problems - didn't think I would access my hotmail again....had to restart the computer!!:) It was one of those 5 minute panics you have with IT!!:D
Anyway, you now have a direct line to God!!!:) I wonder if Peajay will be interested....probably she's got more sense!!:)))
Congrats on 800 AJ.
Sorry if I missed you both, been having blog troubles so have spent day rebuilding.
My HP copy arrived this morning from Amazon too, can't be fagged with all that queing palavar either. :)
Herts is fine for the flooding, we only have a couple of small rivers and we're a top a hill well away from both.
No craft fairs for the time being so am catching up on other jobs like concreting fence posts, trimming holly trees and there has been talk of redecorating various rooms. :/
This direct line to God sounds fun but does it have benefits, after all I went to Mass before my craft fair both days last week and put in a word to little avail!! Takings still sucked.:D
