Here's some California sunshine sent your way, in hope to ward off some of winter's gray!

http://www.glumbert.com/media/shower
Is this what you do in the shower AJ? :D
Hi Anna,
I like the vid and yes it just about covers most of the male habits in the bathroom dept!!:D
I must say you're very brave putting your home movies on the web!:)
btw you were quite a wee looker back then!;))
Hi Melanie,
We have two working victorian fireplaces which burns coal and logs!!:) We had to re-instate them as they had been completely stripped many years ago! It was worth it for the look of the house.
The gas central heating really takes care of our heating requirements, so the fireplaces are really just ornamental.
Anna,
Your party and dancing sounds great fun. It reminds me of a time when I got dragged up to try and perform Cossack dancing - I made a right tit of myself!!:)))
Very enjoyable video Anna, so very true.
Nobody coming out to play tonight?
Aw well, I'll head up tae ma scratcher and read a book. Mrs AJ is already oot for the count!:)
Gnite people and speak to you tomorrow!
:))
Night AJ, hope the book's good. Sorry to have missed you.
Michty me Peajay!!! You're like the shopkeeper on Mr Ben - whoosh and there you are!!
After watching Andy Murray last night, I'll have to retire and try and catch up with my sleep.
The beauty of studying Scottish history - two pages later and it's zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!:D
I'm not quite as prompt as the shopkeeper and I just don't have the destinations. :)
We've got a 'living flame' gas fire ... and wood surround mantlepiece. We put it in a couple of years ago... replaced an old one that was there. Our house is only 25 years old tho' .... so fairly modern... altho... much more substantial and better built than some of the ones that they build today.
Actually, ours isn't even a house its a bungalow!! :)) its a fairly roomy one tho' :)
We hardly ever have the gas fire on.... its never really been cold enough. Altho' we do occasionally put it on before the heating goes on if its a bit chilly in September/early October time.
Ya cheeky wee divil... AJ... God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols... I don't think so. I was trying to think of something really insulting to say about a Scottish anthem... but I guess my version of Flower of Scotland will suffice!! :D
There's a web petition for a Anthem 4 England... and Jerusalem is No1. 'All you need is love' by the Beatles is on the list as well. I can't imagine them singing that at Wembley. :D
Are you stirring up trouble anywhere today?
Hi Anna,
Didn't think you'd take to the Sex Pistols idea!:D
The only blog I've been stirring is the Entertainment section Edinburgh Cultural centre guff!!!:)
It's actually a bit of bait for the Cyber Shebeen - she bound to react!!:)
Are you working today?
I was working this morning ... but I'm home now!! :))
I can't overdo it at my age!!:D
I thought you might enjoy this ;)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73eB-aAo8Eg&mode=related&search=
I'll have a look at your comments. Btw: I don't know where anyone got the idea that I'm religious on that F of S blog ... altho' there are a lot of hymns that I like.
You got me - I actually let it play for 14 seconds!!:D
Emerson Lake and Palmer did a great version of Jerusalem too!!
I was only joking when I called you a Bible basher!!:D
Gotcha!!! :D It is a nice song tho' .... I think a lot of people would like it instead of GSTQ... .when only England are playing. The cricketers use it now.
Mind you, I think the ones singing it on that vid are a Welsh choir!! :D
The Taffys have definitely got the best voices. :)
Anyway... I've still got to go and look at that Embra blog.... :)
Anna,
An interesting story today is the Romanian nun crucafix murder one!!
Whatever you do, don't go there on yer hols!!:))
That Yuri bloke is certainly biting on there ..... he's jumping up and down with rage. :)
Do you think he'd be upset if I said:
Wonderful city ..... Edinburgh... great for visitors and so much to see and do.
Where is Glasgow?
I'm not going to tho' because Horrible might see it and be horrible to me....... she's one scary dame!! :)
That story about the nun being killed looks a bit wierd in the Int section.
Crikey AJ
2 minds with but a single thought ... we both mentioned the nun at more or less the same time. :D
Errr.... yes Anna, you seem to be able to tune into my thoughts!!;)
What am I thinking right now?
You'll have had your lunch...... so you're probably thinking about your next coffee and then hometime!! :D
That nun story is as kinky as anything... what on earth was that all about?
Btw: Apparently, someone is stealing people's ids on the Scotsman ... I noticed a really strange post by Guga yesterday about his willy.. which was totally off topic and very weird... and its happening on that nun board as well.. so someone on there is saying.
Liked you post on there btw: succint and to the point.
Are you having pancakes tonight btw: Shrove Tuesday.
I've had my orders from the 2 guys in my life!! :D
How did you manage that - Nun story and kinky!!!:DD My thoughts exactly!:D
A couple of people have been complaining about others using, what looks like their id!! The reason they can do it is that the ids are really long and have apostrophes, comma and such like! Someone is missing out the odd letter or comma, so a quick glance doesn't pick it up!!
Aha, the nutter on the nun story is mime is an 80 bob, instead of mine is an 80 bob!!! The latter is the real person!!
Yea, the mime is a bob is bad at spelling as well.... he's answered my post.. but I'm not answering him... I can't be bothered. :D
The Embra v Glesga debate is interesting... poor Eric is getting a bit upset.
I would comment but I've only been to Glasgow once .... I thought it was quite nice (I don't know what I expected !!) but I was only passing through and that was in about 1981... so I'm sure its a lot different now. The taxi-driver and the guy who gave me directions at the train station were very friendly :)
I was on my way to Benbecula ... so I got the sleeper up from Euston. First class carriage - courtesy of RAF - and I'm sure there was a copy of the Scotsman waiting outside the door with the coffee in the morning. Those were the days .... good old British Rail!!! :D
Edinburgh is a lot more familiar to me ...... as we used to live there and we often go shopping there when visiting relatives in the Borders.
I've been to Glasgow many times, but Edinburgh I know very well, so maybe I'm slightly biased. For me there is no comparison - Edinburgh has almost everything going for it, whereas Glasgow has to fight hard to gain any repect. When it was named the European City of Culture in the 1980's, it was a sorry sick joke. Most commentators would have shared that opinion at the time. Since then the have tried hard but are way behind Edinburgh.
Further, I have no problem walking about Edinburgh late on, but I wouldn't walk in Glasgow late on!! Sad but true!:(
Good morning! I'm away for a few hours this morning and will have to catch you all later! bye for now...
Where dya go Melanie? That was a quick visit!!:)
all right, that sweet lil 'ole comment deserves a howdy back!
but, ya don't want me late now do ya!! will speak with ya later!
I know there has always been a bit of snobbery about Edinburgh v Glasgow. Some of my relations would say if there was something negative reported about Scotland "Oh well, it would be in the Glasgow area"!! They were a bit miffed when Trainspotting came out.!! :D
Mind you, they can be a bit snobby about Galashiels as well!! :)
My sister's husband is from Glasgow .... his family moved south when he was 15. His Dad and 3 elder brothers tell a few tales about Glasgow.... none of them have ever moved back. I think where they lived was quite rough.... from what they've said anyway.
Hi Melanie... speak later hopefully :)
Sorry I had to run off this morning, had a training class for work, and they scowl at you if you're late!! :/ :))
Well, no bites yet from Horrible on the the Edinb v Glasg blog
Cities do have personalities of their own...I suppose it's just what you like/used to etc We never made it to Glasgow so I've nothing to compare, but I did really like Edinb!
Hi Melanie
Glasgow is fantastic as it is full of the work of Charles Rennie MacKintosh who is a hero of mine. Edinburgh has its moments (egads! it sure does blow up on the esplanade whilst viewing the Tattoo) but both a somewhat tricky to drive round.
Hi Peajay,
Well whatever floats your boat!:)
I don't mind Glasgow, but I always feel uneasy with the sectarian undercurrent. Possibly I would be more aware of that aspect than someone like yourself!
However Glasgow does have some very important buildings, especially Glasgow Cathedral and the Glasgow School of Art. The Georgian New Town development in the West End is very Edinburgh-esque.
Sadly previous Glasgow City Councils have spoiled the city as far as architecture is concerned. Too many old dwellings and civic buildings have been pulled down to make way for 60's and 70's monstrosities! This happened in many UK cities, but I feel Glasgow came off pretty badly. Even George Square(the heart of the City) has many 1960's office block type buildings.
Of course this is only my opinion, and I realise some people get off on dereliction and 60's architecture!!:))
Hi guys, well I guess I'm the busy bee this week. I have to run out on a quick errand; AJ, I should be back before you leave for the day!
Look forward to it Melanie!
Hi peeps
Had another exam today :( it was a toughie (for me anyway), I didn't think I was going to get finished in time.... but managed with about 5 mins to spare!! :(
Hardly had time to read over what I'd written.... but that could be a good thing... saves too much tweaking and fiddling I suppose.
Anyway ma puir auld brain is leaking at the moment.
I need some trivia.... any lighthearted boards on the Scotsman AJ?
No politics .... I can't cope with that!! :))
I've made it back! Posting anywhere?
Hi Anna and Melanie,
There's a language blog which had the makings of a laugh, but some boring old farts spoiled it!!:))
Anna,
When Mr A takes his resettlement, will you become the main bread winner? He can put his feet up after all his hardwork, and you can become a high profile Barrister!!
Are you having dreams of being a kept man, AJ?? ;)
Sounds like a pretty cool retirement plan to me!!:))
Got to go folks, hopefully will be back later on for a wee while!
Take care y'all, d'ya hear!!
AJ, called away again, drat! ;))
Have a great eve, will speak to ya later!
Anna, when you've recovered, let me know if you're about on the boards at all...hopefully I'll be about the keyboard today. I have to go into to work at my 1500 for a few hours.
I think it's great you both are taking courses!!
Anna, wouldn't that be interesting, to have an enjoyable career, and come home to the kept man who pampers you after a hard day's work!!! ;D I wouldn't know what to do!!! ;))
A barrister .... fantastic .. do you know how much those guys get paid? :)
I put it to you AJ... that one of our friends is a barrister and he is seriously loaded .... he's a member of Lincolns Inn. He's a lot more switched on than me tho'........ a real brain box not a bird brain like me!! I thought they called them advocates in Scotland..... M'Lud?
Anyway.... Mr A has a few irons of his own in the fire for when he leaves the RAF .... I don't think he'll be going too far away from it tho'..... if you get my meaning.;)
I prefer sending him out to work .. :D
Anna,
I assumed you would be a Bannister as I didn't think you would be relocating to Scotland!!:))
You are welcome of course!:))
Melanie,
I'll have to catch you tomorrow, so have a great day1:))
AJ.... I saw your comment on the 'not safe to walk the streets of Edinburgh' blog...... about your English friends.
Was that me and Peajay you were talking about?
You're a sweetie really aren't you? :D
(Don't spoil it all now by saying something horrible to me!! :D)
AJ ... Sorry I thought you said Barrister ....... not Bannister....
How did you know I was training to be a Bannister? Well, I'll go to the foot of our stairs ... Are you clairvoyant or something? Good spot!! :D
Sorry, guys, what was that you said, Anna, real life impeding internet blog/chat fun??!! That seems it for me right now, ah well!!
I have to work tomorrow as well :(
so I'll have to reserve, try to anyway, my morn on Fri to actively chat with ya'll!! :))
Presumably you'll be starting on the first step Anna. :D
I reckoned being an Advocaat wouldn't suit you!!:D Best to be a Bannister!:D
Do you think I'm mental by referring to yourself, Melanie and Peajay as ma pals?
I think I've spent more time speaking to you guys than all my friends put together!!!:))
AJ, if you're mental, that makes us, well me, at least mental!! so, no, you're not mental...oohh, am I a reliable testimony to sanity?! ;)))
AJ, after my hubby and kids, I speak to you all more than I do my friends and extended family!!!
By the way, this is an internet 'pal-dom' that has been and is, thorougly enjoyable, I might add!!! :DD
As far as advo-meows and barmeisters climbing staircases...I want to know why the powdered white wigs are still worn; are they not a bit outdated??
Not that this is the least bit applicable...but my uncle, who was an illustrious judge of many years,...had worn his pyjamas, on several occasions, underneath his regal black robes!!!
Well, I think I've more than said enough of absolutely almost nothing...save for the sincerest regard with which I hold ma pals here!!! Will speak with ya'll on a Friday!!! :D
Hi all,
Know what you mean about chatting more on here.... I have to say you probably know a side of me which some of my friends don't know.
We don't chat too much about poetry, politics or Robert the Bruce on a day to day basis..... so I think you cyber friends might know more about the inner me than some of my 'real life' friends do!! :))
Like your new pic ... Melanie ... very springlike and fresh looking... lovely :))
This article is about barristers and judges' wigs:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/law/story/0,,1983410,00.html
Thank you for considering me as an 'English friend' AJ, I'm honoured. Although the last time I was referred to as exactly that it was because my Irish Mother wasn't going to introduce me to anyone she knew!! ;D I'm grateful that you meant it in a far better way.
Nice picture Melanie, unfortunately it's grey and raining here today. :( So your picture helps to brighten things up.
Hi Anna your Ladyship,
Are you posting today? Nothing much to get the teeth into today - maybe the Prince Harry story!!
I wondered about suggesting he might be put in charge of the landmine planting unit!!! However, that might have been too much!!:))
I never used to care!!:)) It must be the cyber-wifie influence!:))
Hi Peajay,
I wondered if you were Celtic or you just had an obsessive interest in all things Gael!!:))
You're ma cyber-pal!:)
AJ... my dear chap.. I'll have a look at the Harry blog... I see someone's already commented on the rumour about him not being Chuck's kid!! :D
Peajay....if AJ gets out of hand just threaten to cyber discipline him with your shilealeagh (sp? Irish stick thing!!) :D
I haven't really had time to look at much today... but I'll have a quick squint at the Scotsman now.
I consider you all to be my pals as well... :) Its quite staggering, really, the amount we've chatted to each other.. Good fun tho' :D
Yeah, he's referred to as a spare!:D
Another good thing about all this cyber chatting as well is .... I feel its broadened my knowledge and horizons :D
I now know lots of Scottish slang and a bit about what life in AJ's part of the world is and your interesting take on things.... plus where a moderate Scots nat is coming from, what Milan and Berlin are like to visit :)
I know lots more about California, how American ways are different in some ways but quite often the same as ours, home education, homeopathy and some good recipes and travel tips.
I also know more about jewellery making and selling to the sometimes horrible public, some very clever words, a bit of Irish Gaelic and even tho' Peajay is probably the quietest (and best behaved) of us... she still reveals a lot about her inner self. :))
Its great talking to and learning about you all (and arguing with AJ) ..... :D
Quite true Anna,
I've learned that spikey ex-Sqn Ldr's aren't too bad after all. They have quite a soft center, when you get to know them!:))
They have a penchant for Pagan festivals, G&T and Scottish politics! A strange mixture, but very intriguing!:D
Another thing AJ..... thanks to you we're having fahitas (sp?) for dinner..
Its not something I've cooked at home before (I've had them in a restaurant)... so I thought I'd give it a go!! :D
Guess what I'm cooking tonight!!??
They'll be part of your staple from here on in! Kit Kat will love them!Kids love the messiness of the ritual.
Remember the soured cream and Jalapenos!
My own horizons have been broadened through knowing you all (particularly notable have been the flirting lessons) for which big thanks.
Alas no shilealeagh Anna. And the horible customers turned out to be police officers!!! :/
I can't believe I've posted at 666 again, this is going to hex me if I keep catching that number, and me so good yesterday (Ash Wed) plus giving up just about every nice thing you can think of for the next 40 days!! :DD
Ooh no - not the 666 Peajay :(
What have you given up for Lent? A friend of mine is RC and she is giving up chocolate ... she gives it up for Lent every year and loses a bit of weight and then puts it all back on again by indulging at Easter :)
Still, it is a real sacrifice for her to give up choc as she is a choc-o-holic!! :) so, that's the main thing!!
Did you have pancakes on Tuesday?
Have given up alcohol, and fizzy drinks like diet coke etc. It's usually chocolate but still have a large Toblerone and can't just look at it for 40 days.
Yes, had lovely pancakes on Tuesday then had to fast and abstain yesterday. That's the trouble with religion, give one day take back the next! ;)
Did you do the pancakes too?
Yes we had pancakes ... they were yummy. :)
The system here is that I make the batter and Mr A does the cooking and attempts to toss them!! KK had a go this year and the dog was sitting next to him in anticipation... she managed to get one!! :D
Your dog is very bright isn't she? ;D Are you a lemon and sugar family or more adventurous?
missed out on the pancakes tradition...I just refer to it as fat Tuesday, as in Mardi Gras finale' before Lent.
The photo is not mine, but off of a google search; however, I've seen the desert like this after a good rainy winter. The photo is from the Gorman area, just north of here...incredible!...I used to ride my friend's horse out in this area...the purple lupines smelled like 'grape soda'! (does this americanism translate?)
fahitas (sounds like) but spelled fajitas!..; and they taste.... '!increible!'
talk with ya soon!
Nae pancakes for us!:(
How were the fajitas Anna?
Nice photo Mel!
Peajay, you should give up Lent for Lent - which means you can get straight back tae the guinness!:))
Do you not do the pancake business in Scotland AJ?
Nice thought about the giving up Lent but alas not very RC. ;)
Never really bothered about Shrove Tuesday, but I do like pancakes:)
It must be hard being religious - having to give good things up, turning up at the main gig on a Sunday, wearing oot the knees of yer troosers, and singing rotten songs!;))
Good morning!
ooh, AJ, sounds like yer pickin a fight?! Kinda hard to wear oot the knees in yer trousers if yer wearin a dress tae church! ;)
How are you all??!! :)
There's a funny article "dial M for Macbeth"...I added my twa pence last nite!
You have my permission, AJ, to tease Lanna about her cookin! ;)
...but can you tease in a Shakespearian style?
OK wearing oot the knees in yer tights!!:))
Good morning Melanie,
Sleep well?
What's for breakfast?
Have a wee look at the Womans domestic story in the UK section - Lanna gets a mention!!:))
hmmm, I was just reading there, haven't seen it yet!
not sure about breakfast yet!
It's a sunny day, but the wind is bringing us small flecks of snow from a storm coming at us from the east....very strange weather!!
so, Lanna is trotting at Corbie's heels is she! I'm so glad HC didn't use some other verb, you know how descriptive she can get!! :))
I wonder, some say blondes have all the fun, but is it the brunettes who cause all the trouble! ;D (she says with a slightly sassy and devious tone!)
AJ, before I respnd wrongly, what's a 'dinner lady'?
Dinner Ladies are the wifies who served up the gruel at schools!:D
At my school, they were particularly ferocious and you never complained - even if you found a baked bean in your custard!!:D
ooh, I remember them!!! :)
ferocious, now there's a word! ;)
Well, I answered you back on both, something slightly silly, of course!
Anna/Peajay, Horrible lives in France not Glesca!!
I would like to see that film, too, AJ...but it will probably be difficult to see it here. There are theaters in Hollywood that show foreign films, I think. I have a cousin (yet another) who might know.
What about that - HC comes from France!!
Funny thing is - I've spent ages trying to find a cinema where it was showing, on the strength of HC saying she saw it!!:D I scoured the Glasgow cinemas too!:D
What was the actual title again??
poor AJ, let's hope Mrs AJ will be understanding!!!! :)
AJ, will you be on later? I know it's your Fri, just didn't want to miss you if you were.
same for Anna/Peajay... :D
It's called "La Mome" Melanie:)
Mr AJ will think I've gone mad, we were going to see it this weekend - she's been looking for it,I've been looking for it!!:))
Aw well, I'm in for a real slagging off when I get home :D
I'm off soon Melanie, I'll hopefully catch up with you later!:))
I'm not sure Melanie, hopefully!:)
Will keep an eye out just in case!!
Have a good eve all!
Well fancy that ... HC lives in France zo she eez 'orribelle canKerrrs' (Do it with a French accent ;)
Peajay..... sorry didn't get back to you last night... we have lemon & sugar for the traditionalist (Mr A) and golden syrup and maple syrup for me and KK....
Really fattening but heyho, its only occasionally and then you can always give pancakes up for Lent!! :D
So... AJ its Italy v Scotland and England v Ireland...
My predictions are:
Ireland will beat England.
Scotland will beat Italy
Remember you heard it hear first!!:D
Re: Dinner Ladies.. Melanie.. the one's at every school I ever went to only ever served fatty gravy with bits of mince in it, an ice-cream scoop of instant mash and watery cabbage that tasted of washing up liquid.
This feast was followed by something in the milk pudding department like frog spawn or rice with a blob of something red in the middle ... which was supposed to be jam!
There was no Jamie Oliver in those days .... making sure we got a healthy diet..... we just got whatever slop they dished up and sneaked a bag of crisps in to eat!! :D
How we survived I don't know!!:D
Anna, I think we've had some similiar school lunches!!
okay, what is the religious import of pancakes??? ;) I suppose I could google!
I hope AJ survives the Mrs' wrath; either that, or he's got an unscheduled visit to France in the near future to see a certain film!! ;)
Enjoy the rugby! :)
Found this on Wikipedia - Melanie
"The reason that pancakes are associated with the day preceding Lent is that the 40 days of Lent form a period of liturgical fasting, during which only the plainest foodstuffs may be eaten. Therefore, rich ingredients such as eggs, milk, and sugar are disposed of immediately prior to the commencement of the fast. Pancakes and doughnuts were therefore an efficient way of using up these perishable goods, besides providing a minor celebratory feast prior to the fast itself.
The word shrove is a past tense of the English verb "shrive," which means to obtain absolution for one's sins by confessing and doing penance. Shrove Tuesday gets its name from the shriving (confession) that Anglo-Saxon Christians were expected to receive immediately before Lent.
Shrove Tuesday is the last day of "shrovetide," which is the English equivalent to the Carnival tradition that developed separately out of the countries of Latin Europe.
The term "Shrove Tuesday" is not widely known in the United States, especially in those regions that celebrate Mardi Gras on the day before Ash Wednesday."
Good excuse to eat pancakes anyway!! :D
Melanie,
Pancake Day was a method of using up your supplies of fat, butter, eggs and cream had to be finished up before fasting for the 47 days of Lent.
AJ, you were right it was wearing out the knees of ma troosers as I do not possess a skirt/dress.
My experience of school dinners and the aforementioned dinner ladies appears very similar to everyone elses with a name given to Anna's frogspawn pudding of 'tapioca'. YUCK!!! However, we were spared the recent innovation of chicken nuggets and a plethora of chips (fries). By the time I reached the second year of Secondary school I thankfully took sandwiches from home (I think I was in danger of developing rickets from not eating the total muck that was being dished up) ;)
Your explanation's much better than mine Anna, thank you.
Well, frogspawn-pudding is a new word in my everexpanding vocabulary...my kids had quite a giggle with that one!! I'm impressed with the visual!!
I usually refer dinner with the eve meal, so I missed the guess. (I should have thought of our 'lunch ladies'.) My southern grand-dad did call the 'noon meal..dinner, and the eve meal supper, though.
I have to be at work Sat, but not till my 1100. Leave a note if you're doing any posting on the Scotsman...I'll try to join you!
Blimey AJ... Within the first 6 minutes its Scotland 0 Italy 19.... what the hell are they doing?
Watch this to cheer yourself up:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8cQvqVYhUQ&mode=related&search=
:D
Anna, you're ruthless!! ;))
AJ, view this, for inspiration:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS4hiOhw68E&NR
:D
Do I dare open the bold Anna's link!!??:))
Thanks Melanie - my true crutch!!:D
Well........ England are playing like fairies :(... .They are being well and truly stuffed by a try...umphant Ireland :(
I'll go and watch the glory days of England rugby on my you tube vid now....
I know there's another half to go yet but ..... I can't see them coming back now ..
Still ... never mind ... its still good fun screaming at the telly! I just wish those guys in green would get out of Johnny's way when he's trying to thro' with HIS ball! :D
That should be "get out of Johnny's way when he's trying to thro' with HIS ball"! :D btw !
Melanie is your true crutch AJ ? :D What am I a big stick to beat you with? You know how much you enjoy it really ! :D
Btw: The fahitas were really nice ... a big hit with all of us:)
I'll get this right in a minute:
That should be "get out of Johnny's way when he's trying to GET thro' with HIS ball"! :D btw !
It must be all the Guinness I've been drinking ... to get in the Irish mood!! :D
Don't know the final score of the Irish game, but I trust it was a real thumping!!:))
At least we have guinness!! I get some in when play them - for consolation of course!!:))
At least Andy Murray's having another big week!!!:)) So it's not all bad!:)
He plays Andy Roddick tonight!
Yes we were well and truly thumped .... still never mind ... as you say the Guinness helps to lessen the blow... plus having plenty of chances to watch the gorgeous Irish kicker Ronan O'Gara in action. Even if he is scoring points against us he's a tasty bit of stuff so he is :D
Mr A is obviously in extreme danger when you watch the rugger!!!
Happy Sunday all.... sorry, just a flying visit.... hopefully speak later or tomorrow :D
Late up this morning.... too much Guinness yesterday probably!!
The moral of the story is: never drink in the afternoon!!! :D
howdy all!
quiet Sunday so far!
How's your heid, Anna? :))
Hi folks,
Wotcha all up to? Had a wee drink induced session on the Scotsman last night myself Anna!!:))
Melanie, have you been busy this weekend?
Hi AJ, I saw some of your creative remarks and figured they were bevy induced!! :D
had to work yest, and am just around about home today.
Hi Melanie,
I had to retrace my steps with regards to the comments - didn't think they were too bad!:)
I've been busy doing fam stuff - the Mish Mash jist gets better and better! She's 21 months now and every day is precious, as she is really developing her character!:))
You know all that already! What age did you enjoy your kids the most? Don't say, when you were 30!!:D
AJ, 30?? I don't even remember that age, it's all a blur!! ;)
kids: I loved infant to about 4years, absolutely! There was just something special about it!
Then school age began which I don't think I enjoyed as much starting out, but it might also have been the pressure of our work schedules at the time.
I do love interacting with the kids now, at their current ages (10, 13, 16)...teens and all!! They're really fun to do things with, and they still don't mind 'being seen' with me!! ;))
That's what I would have guessed Melanie! Will the Mish want to be seen with her geriatric Dad, when she becomes a teen??:D
It's scary how the years are now whizzing past! The last 10 have just disappeared so quickly1 I remember the first 21 - it seemed to take ages to reach, but after that it's downhill all the way!!:))
AJ, I've had to adapt my ways...only the younger one will still hold my hand when walking, and hugs goodbye, are more 'dignified'!! ;)
I suppose as long as the kids don't see us as complete nerds, dorks, way-uncool, smothering, school-master/mistress-ish, etc they will allow us to stay about in public!!! :D
Luckily for me, Mrs AJ will make up for my 'advanced years'. I'll be able to play in goals and she can run about with the Mish!:D
Melanie, you should write a book on how to be a cool parent! I'll buy the first copy!!:)
AJ, I'm definitely feeling my soon to be 43 years...I've the sports injuries to remind me!! It Is flying by...I saw a description of 'wifie' 'over 40, and talks about messages....ugh, that's me!!
I found some old photos of me pre-marriage...had a fun laugh...wow, I couldn't believe how 'young' and 'innocent' I looked!!! :D
Book, hmmmm....have thought to co-write/ghost write a book with the SgtMjr on "faciliting your child to success"....but the subject matter would be for working with at-risk youth in the wilderness; but this style of working with kids can be applied to any kid, any where
Ps...the SgtMjr's dad was 45 when he was born
AJ, that's right, you do have a younger wife, by 10 yrs?? ...definitely a plus for the Mish....jest make sure you take your vitamins, ya ole codger!!! ;)
12 and a half actually!!:))
Melanie, you'll soon be the same age as moi!!:D
Nae luck Hen!!:D
The book idea might be a good one Melanie! Especially with the home schooling aspect! I suspect more and more would be tempted to provide an alternative to the state systems in the US and here!
AJ, you're about 7 months older than me, I reckon...
121/2 yrs....ok, did you get teased, or slapped on the back for...'robbing the cradle'??? ;D
I'm so fresh faced that most people think I'm only 31!!;)
home schooling is something that I think will only get bigger, esp if the public schools cont. the way they are
I'll second your 31, cause I ain't a day over 29!! :)))
Good one Mel!!:DD
Got to go now, I'll speak to you tomorrow!:))x
g'nite, AJ...speak with ya tomorrow!!
"I'm so fresh faced that most people think I'm only 31!!;) "
Who does?
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Och Anna, a canny help it if am blessed with youthful looks!!;)
It's an early start for Joanna, are you at your work? :D
No ... AJ .. I'm in this afternoon... I'm blogging on here inbetween tidying the sty after Big Piggy and Little Piggy this weekend (messy divils so they are!!).
I'm also thinking about doing some college work!!! :) Well, its the thought that counts!
I'm going into work this pm :(
But, I'm off out for a Chinese meal tonight with some other girlies .... should be a good laugh. I'm not driving either .... and I'm not working tomorrow... wonder if KK will make it to school...:D
Och, you'll get a chance to bog at the work!!:)
Chinese sounds good, Mrs AJ being a veggie doesn't trust the ingredients - oyster and fish sauce is used a lot instead of salt apparently!:( I miss going oot for a Chinky!:))
The friend who is organising it ....asked me if I wanted the veggie option.... apparently, a couple of them are going for it.. but I declined ... bring on the sizzling steak and the big fat prawns... oh and the crispy duck!!! :D
I bet they don't realise that the veggie option isn't really veggie if Mrs AJ is right ... which I'm sure she is :) I won't tell them ... it could put a damper on things!!
Mr A is having lunch in the mess ... he's at Cottesmore today and KK is having school dinners ... so its a quickie meal for them tonight!! :))
Sandwich anyone?
I think AJ should provide a list of those people who think he's 31 so we can check their credentials and their optical abilities :DD
Hi Peajay.... excellent suggestion :)
Where's your list AJ?... :D
Hi Anna
Hope you have a good meal tonight. Who has the best option, chinese, school or mess dinners?
Stevie Wonder
David Blunkett
David Beckham (well he must be!!)
The boy oot o' Kung Fu
AJ, so that's anyone who comes accompanied by a dog!!
Well I would say the Chinese ... Peajay :)
But, sometimes the mess can dish up quite a good meal.. and KK's school does do quite nice food... nothing like the slop that we had to eat in the past.
They won't starve :D
:D :D :D :D etc, etc... :D
Peajay.... for the dog comment!! I'm no fan of V.B either :)
Peajay,
That was very funny!:D I wish I thought of that!:)
Anna,
How cute was that - we laughed at Peajay's joke at the same time!;)
good morning!
hey, I made chinese food yest...yummy chicken stirfry!
posting anywhere?
Hi Melanie
How are you?
I'm having a conversation with HC and JG on the QC/cannabis blog - page2 Scotland section!!
"Have you ever used an onion Johnny, or do you use strawberry flavoured wans??!!!!"
"thick ear?"
do I want to know, do you want to explain??? ;))
good morning AJ!, I'm just sittin here readin, kids are sleepin and trying to avoid the Monday school day start
I find it amusing the way you guys ticked off the other poster...he just didn't get the humour
....never mind the translation...I'm just playing with you; I get the gist...I just find the 'dialect' differences interesting! :)
OK Melanie, here we go - a johnny is a nickname for condoms. An Onion Johnny was the name of French onion sellers who were common in Scotland decades ago. A thick ear is what you get if someone skelps on yer lug(ear)!!:))
Hope that clears up the confusion!!:)) As per normal we're tlking complete nonsense!!:))
Get the kids up Melanie!!!
well, at least that clears up the confusion as to why anyone would want onion breath! ;)
sorry, not my normal style of joking...I'll blame it on Monday...and my slightly peeved mood that the SgtMjr has been sent away on yet another training...he won't be back till Wed
Melanie, the whole Scotsman blog is a joke and I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't understand our humour!!:)
Won't be long before the Sgt Mjr is back!!:) Monday mornings are difficult sometimes. It's hard to find impetous, but I'll guarantee you'll be back to normal by lunchtime!:))
Aw, AJ, thanks...my blue mood is starting to go away already! :))
What you need Melanie is a good raccoon shoot. Go get the Sgt Mjr's 1895 buffalo gun, and bag yersel a couple of those pesky varmints!!!:))
You know you'll feel better for it!:D
Although, I sleep with a lovely H&K 45mm under my pillow, when he's gone...I'll leave the rifle practice for when he's here!! ;)
Taking the kids out for ice cream is on the agenda today, for improving spirits all around!!!
What!!!!??? really!!
Isn't that a wee bit uncomfortable??
Seriously, it's a shame you feel you need to do that! I suspect it almost a neccessity in some parts of the US! Far too many unregulated guns in circulation. In London there has been a spate of shooting amongst the young gangs recently. The fear is, this will spill out amongst the general public and innocent bystanders will get caught in the crossfire!!
Well you take care young Melanie, I don't want any bad stuff to happen to you and your fam!:))
It is unfortunate, yes, but it is also due to the SgtMjr's work that may increase the chances of our family being more high profile to bad guys.
There will always be badguys with guns...I'm just glad we're legally allowed to even the playing field...sounds harsh, sorry...I suppose that's the wild west/rebel coming out in me a bit!
It's not the OK Corral, at least right where I live...but the LA gangster element is alive and unfortunately well in the high desert...and there are parts of town I don't go to...like you, only ours do have guns rather than knives
wow, what a subject, that and legalised MJ...what a day?! :)
Heavy stuff!
Have a look at the nought to sexy story on page 1 Scotland section. That should cheer you up!! We have been cruel though!!:))
Do you take the gun out? If you do, do you tuck into the back of your breeks? Or do you wear a fancy under arm holster?
no holster, under ma pilla...I don't carry it aboot toon... I don't have a permit!!!
you guys were terrible on that blog...so as that other person said...is it a Scots trait to play down others successes or trying at success...'cause there are Americans who are just as bad with that!
Naughty girl!!:)
Well I've got to go soon, but I'll try and make some time tonight to see what yer up to! I should be studying and preparing my first exercise for Uni, but being a board addict, I'll have to have a fix!!:))
Please note Melanie, I never criticised the girl, jist her apparell!!:)) See you later!
"me naughty??!! why in what waay, sir"
...she says with a slight smile and a hint of batting the eyelashes
och, dinnae git yersel all in a tussle!!
lookin forward to hearin from ya later, if ya can!!
you had every right to criticize the clothing apparel, I probably would have too!! :))
just a quick hello,
I'm out the door for about 2hrs to check on my 4-legged critters...will check here when I get back, in case anyone's around :)
Anna, a comment I answered on the Slave reparations blog was deleted...it seems reverse discrimination is a foot because there was nothing wrong with her comment, it was just forcefully said; in case you didn't see it, she basically was saying 'reparations by the slave descendants should be made to the descendants of the soldiers who died fighting to free the slaves'...anyway, I suppose that's pc for ya! I answered you back btw!! :)
I saw that comment was deleted .... very strange....
I agreed with what she said ... there were a lot of people who died in the US Civil War which was supposed to be about emancipation of the slaves in the south (among other issues!)
I just find apologies for things that happened beyond living memory to be absurd and meaningless ... and patronising. I think the politicians only do it to make themselves look kind and caring.... Blair was an example of that when he apologised to the Irish about the potato famine.
Where do you stop? We probably all have stories in our family background of our ancestors being badly treated by the ruling classes..... I know I have. But, we cannot put today's more sensitive and liberal attitudes onto a time which we did not live in and can never truly understand.
I think these apologies are just to make politicians look good and score a few smartie points. I think it just makes them look even more shallow and self-serving.
Anna,
It's easy to apologise 150 years or so after an event (it basically means nothing!), but you won't see many apologies for any questionable deeds in the last 60 years!!
Politicians are truly a slimey and disgraceful lot!!
How's the heid? Any sign of food poisoning yet?
Head's not too bad ... thanks AJ..
Altho' I didn't sleep very well last night... must have been all the MSG in the food.. keeping me awake... !!
I had a good time tho' ..... :) The veggie option looked a bit boring .... seemed to be a lot of broccoli and mushrooms ... with some beansprouts ... all the veggies dishes looked like that.... except for different sauces. I don't think the Chinese are into veggie food... well, not the ones round here anyway.:)
Yep, I couldn't be a veggie. Blandness is something I hate and a lot of restuarants don't really try. Exception being Indian curry houses, of course!!
That's true... Indian veggie dishes are really nice..... bombay potatoes, dahl, veg curry, aloo gobi, sag aloo, mushroom bahjee, onion bahjee.:)
I suppose it could be because most Hindu's are veggies.
Blogging anywhere on the Scotsman?
Have a look at the Argyll soldiers in Iraq story on yesterday's UK and international news. Horrible C is giving someone a right going over!! ... and William Wallace has dumped me.... ah well, that's life!!
I've burnt my bridges with William Wallace ... he obviously hates the British army ... and he sounds like a complete to**er......
The end of a beautiful relationship :D
Yes I've waded in on your side - of course!!:)
I've posted something which might make him think again! I thought he was a reasonable bloke, but he is obviously more bitter and twisted than we thought.
Canky gave the Chinaman a real going over, although he defended himself pretty well. She is missing the point(which you illustrate) - the charges are allegations and nothing more. I suspect there maybe truth in it, but you can't wade in to the extent Canky has! I think she makes some excellent points, but they're slightly out of context!
But I'm not going to tell her!!:D
Your cyber dalliance with WW is "deid in the watter"!!:)
I'll get you fixed up with someone else - don't you worry about that!!!:D
Thanks for the support.... cherub :D
He does sound a bit strange..... I mean I know the sitch in N. Ireland has always been very divided ... but there's no black & white there... a lot of murky grey on both sides.
The thing, he said about the Falklands is mad .... all the islanders that I met really hate the Argentinians ... to the extent that they tried to refuse permission for the bereaved relatives to visit the Argentine war graves on the islands. They were really anti... but were eventually overruled by the Governor and a few sensible members of the FI Government and the Commander in Chief of the British Forces on the island.
However, it was all done on the proviso that the relatives were bussed from Mt Pleasant airport to the graveyard and not allowed to go anywhere else ... and then taken straight back to MPA and flown off the island.
One of the graveyards is near Goose Green but - by stipulation of the residents - out of site of the village. I went to see it when I was there... it was so sad... most of them were just boys, all conscripts, .. some just said "An Argentine soldier known unto God"... a lot had rosaries around them (the named ones). It was such a lonely place and it seemed so sad (to me) that they and their relatives would have been neglected if it hadn't been for the British Forces and the Commonwealth War Graves.
I would hate to be as bitter as many of the Falkland Islanders were.... things may have changed, for the better now ... but there was very little compassion shown by the Islanders for those boys when I was there.
Canky has made some good points ... there is a problem with people leaving the forces (esp: the Army) and becoming alcoholics or homeless etc.
But, she, like you say has missed the point about these being allegations... they may well be true ... but I would rather wait for the inquiry to complete their findings.
I'm not taking her on tho'... I'm a coward same as you :))
What I gather, is the islanders feel pretty vulnerable despite the forces being there. They see the possibility of a pull out and a handing over of the islands to the Argentinians in the future. There may well be vast mineral resources yet to be discovered - but it's only a maybe!
The trouble with the Falklands, like Gibralter, like the Sovereign land in Cyprus, etc. The ethical and strategic reasons for being there are disappearing fast(maybe not Cyprus). You can't argue about proximity and the geography etc!!
I reckon most of the RAF boys would love to wave goodbye to the Falklands!!:) Not Cyprus however!!:)
Good morning!!
Anna, my sympathies!! Now, which article is that one?? ;)
Good morning Melanie,
Are you feeling better today? You were a 'wee bit doon' yesterday!
Hi AJ, yes, better, thanks!
What are you up to today?
I get to go get pampered at the hair salon this morn...I know, a girl thing...don't worry, I'll not come back with pink stripes, or anything! ;)
so, re a mention on the Argyll blog...the black & tan...didn't know that was a military unit of questionable action :/...do you know if I might fall foul if I ask for this drink outside of the US, as in Ireland??
my Irish friend didn't seem to mind, but he may have been being polite/and or Americanised
How about dreadlocks - what would the Sgt Mjr think of that!!??:))
I'm currently defending the artistry of Andy Murray(again) on the sports page!!:)) My sparring partner Joel has appeared again(as I knew he would!!:D)
It's a very quiet day at work, because of the heavy rain - people have to walk to my facility and the rain keeps them away!!:))
I don't think asking for a Black and Tan would cause offence, even in Derry. Interesting - what came first the para-military or the drink!!??
Where's auld Prof Anna when you need her? Aw well, I'll just look at the Wikipedia mysel!!:D
rainy day here too...just saw a rainbow out the back window!
...good, now you get to focus on more important issues!! ;)
good, 'cause I'm rather fond of it
did you see the article on organic meat pies? some of the comments were amusing...I think sometimes worrying about what you eat causes more stress, and therefore more heart issues??!!! ;))
AJ, I'm excited for you going to Normandy!! Hopefully you'll share some photos with us!! (Will you arrange a photo of you and your friend wearing your kilts?! Indulge us gals, will you!!!!) ;)
How's the Murray defence coming, haven't looked at the article
Black and tans were foxhounds from Limirick - so it's even more complicated!!:(
I've still to download my Milan pics, but I'll get round to it some time. The Normandy trip is in less than 5 weeks!!:))
The websites and advice from HC, has actually done the trick!!:)) What a great thing this internet caper is!!
So wotcha think, were the Black and Tans goodies or baddies?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
Black_and_Tan
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
Black_and_Tans
looks like the drink wins out!
the description of the soldiers sounded like they were very scary!!
I think they were - basically mercenaries and renowned for their brutality. Yet there are plenty who see them as some legendary force!
Happily you can drink without being associated with them!:))
Well, that is the important thing after all....to have a pint in peace!
ok, goofy response, I know
"I reckon most of the RAF boys would love to wave goodbye to the Falklands!!:) Not Cyprus however!!:) "
AJ... the Falklands has grown in popularity as a detachment area.... since the advent of Iraq and Afghanistan. Given the choice I'd opt for the South Atlantic.... less chance of being shot at!! :D
Hello Melanie,
While I don't condone the behaviour of the Black and Tans in Ireland..... I think they are another issue that needs to be looked at in light of the time they operated in ... not today.
A lot of ex-soldiers joined the B & T's after WW1 because there were no jobs to come back to. The 'Land fit for Heroes' they had been promised did not exist.. so they were desperate people who needed a job. Many of them saw the Irish as traitors because of the Easter Rising during WW1 etc, etc...
I don't think they should be raked up as a stick to beat today's Army with. Its the same, to me, as apologising for things that happened beyond living memory. Today's army is not guilty of any crimes that the B&T's committed. Just as today's Germans are not guilty of the Holocaust....
I'm not saying these things shouldn't be remembered or taught to future generations.... I just don't think people today should be made to feel guilty about them.
Anna,
You might have a point about the Falklands, given the Middle Eastern situation! But all the young fellers hate it, unless they have a penchant for sheep!!:))
I agree with you about the Black and Tans, it was a tense situation, badly handled by the govt of the time!! Sound familiar?
Very badly handled .... but then, the whole of the Irish 'problem' was very badly handled.....
That's why it was good to see them be so magnanimous and sporting when GSTQ was played at Croke Park on Sat.
Re: the Falklands I'm just going on what Mr A says.... that people are relieved if they get FI for an 'out of area' nowadays.
Agree with the beyond living memory apologies,
would love to chat more, but have to 'skeedaddle' as in, I'm out the door for my appt.
I'll be around later, for anyone carin for a chat! :D
Best of luck Melanie - do you get refunds in hairdressers?
Anna, I suppose there's less chance of getting killed, but some of the young lads and lassies enjoy the thrill!!!
I'll speak to you guys later!:)
Anna, my father could never return to Argentina for fear of reprisal and involuntary draft into the military, or something like that, even though he was British, they saw him as Argentine born...my memory is clouded with the details, sorry...but your description of those poor Argentine soldier/boys reminded me....anyway, I think you had a valid point, and poor william had an axe to grind
just watched "Man of the Year" with Robin Williams...hilarious, with some interesting undertones (as I put on one of the Scotsm. posts)...I'm sure you all could relate with the politics etc!
If your in the mood for Italian jokes in your morn, see Intl section, "Which is the true face of 12,000 years BC?"
Had a busy day with the kids, with two drama teens in the house and the SgtMjr gone...well, can I run away, please!!! ;))
Have to work Wed, will try to catch you in my morn before I leave!! nite!
Hi Melanie.... interesting comment about your father .... most of the ordinary Argentinian soldiers that helped to invade the Falklands were conscripts. When I was there I had a good mooch around the museam etc.. there is a lot in there about how the Argentine soldiers were starving, demoralised and begging the islanders for food .... They were treated, appallingly, by their 'leaders'. That's why I felt so sorry for them... They didn't stand a cat in hell's chance against a well fed, motivated armed service... and apparently, they were terrified when they heard the British paras were coming.
Their Air Force, however, were professional and volunteers ... so completely different story.
Interesting place the FI's .... I wouldn't want to live there but it wasn't too bad for 4 months!!
Any good blogs today.. AJ... I can't believe Charlie Boy made that comment about McDonalds... he's getting like his Dad. :D
I eez 'aving an IT nightmare today!! I'll speak to you soon!
Hi all!! will speak with ya later!! hope yer havin a good day so far!!
hope those gallopin hite-mares don't git ya, AJ! ;)
In honour of the Italian cavewoman story and for the importance of history, to be recorded as accurately as possible,...I've added a wonderful documentary on the history of the wheel!! :D
http://youtube.com/watch?v=fwOTp3YfOT4
The 800 is mine....come to daddy....yabbadabbadoo!!:))
The computers are working again today - despite being sabotaged by moi!!! Whatever you do folks, NEVER tamper with registry settings on your PC!!:((
Hope you are all well and I look forward to renewing our cyber-alliance!:))
Hi AJ...
glad to hear your IT problem was sorted out.:) Its a nightmare when it goes wrong..
Da Vinci Code ? :D ..... you're 'aving a laff ain't cha?
I wouldn't put that on the same shelf as some of the others ...:D
Fairly entertaining yarn tho'!!
That 'In Cold Blood' by Truman Capote sounds good... I had a quick squint at an Amazon review.... I'll keep an eye out for that in the library.
Have you read Grapes of Wrath? VG book..... I love it :)
I watched Brokeback Mt last night.. good film. Mr A watched some of it with me .... but I could see him wincing a bit and looking at his newspaper.. when the 2 cowboy stars started to get intimate!! It was a sad story tho'!
