Hee Hee

I was having a laugh and expect a good response!!!

Grapes of wrath - I read it in 3rd year I think, always meant to pick it up again!:))

Don't think I'll watch the Brokeback Mountings film, it sounds too soppy. Before you say I'm anti-poof, I watched the Naked Civil Servant as a young lad and enjoyed it!!!

Any other sites you're commenting on? I'm currently exchanging pleasantries with Horrible on the UK litreature award story!

Melanie said...

hey, I'm able to post here... finally!!!

AJ Fife said...

Hi Melanie,

You finally made it here!:))

Anna's cleared off, nae sign o' Peajay, so it's jist me and you!!;) Wotcha wanting to talk aboot?

Melanie said...

well, who knows, but I suppose we need to behave!!?! ;)

AJ Fife said...

You never know who's keeping tabs on us - FBI,MI5 or the CIA. You could end up in a Waco type seige!!:( Only kidding btw:)

Melanie said...

I made a comment in the section where HC was commenting on legs and kilts, and I think pole dancers....my, AJ you can be very descriptive in your writing!!!

Melanie said...

AJ, I have to fess up...I Made a comment in the Old/US Pres article...having to do with redistribution of wealth...the other American has yet to respond!! I really was polite

AJ Fife said...

eerrr.....yes, in ma own basic sort of way!;)

btw the caveman pole dancing was very good!!;)

Melanie said...

oh, sorry the comment was on the US homeless blog

The caveman engineer is a good one...if you go to the Scotsm article for the Ital cavewoman...I thought I wrote a pretty good lead in for the video

Melanie said...

AJ, you guys have your own sense of humour and what is frustrating, I guess...the humour is hilarious with you guys sayin it, but sounds cheap, slutty if you will, when us gals say it...ah well!! Viva la diference! I'll stay a lady!! ;)
HC is a whole diff brand of stuff!!! :D

AJ Fife said...

Mel, there's a time and a place for everything!!!;)))

AJ Fife said...

HC is something else, and boy can she argue her point too!!

Melanie said...

HC, can get going...she gets really emotional on some stuff...I wonder what her story is??

Did you read my comment re redistribution of wealth...I'm not a die hard capitalist...but sometimes these guys get me worked up

oh, yer leavin soon, talk with ya later!

anna said...

Gosh you were slow at your school ... AJ..

We were reading Crime & Punishment and War & Peace in the 3rd year. :D

Melanie said...

I don't remember half the 'classic' books I read in school...so you're all better than me on that one!! I was too busy reading Agatha Christie, riding horses and dissecting frogs! ;)

I actually regret it, and hope to re-read some of them! :)

Melanie said...

Ps the frogs was part of an advanced biology course...not something orchestrated, wrongly, in the back garden area!! :)

Haven't been able to get back into any posting on the scotsm. tonite...I have to be a 'good example' to my children :/ :)

Actually, have busy work to see to as well...will see you all in ma morn if yer already in yer scratchers!

Peajay said...

Hi All,

Haven't posted much lately, been inundated with Calligraphy work for a wedding on Saturday. Funny how stress transfers onto all the people around those who are stressed. Consolation is an invitation to the wedding so all chilled now. Hope all are ok and happy.

Melanie said...

Well, it looks like the grown-up world of work and families has infringed upon our 'speak time'!! ;)

Perhaps we'll have some free time here soon, where we all can have a whirlwind of a conversation! :D

STRESS in our lives???!!!!

Peajay, posting restrictions due to people's party purchases for positively posh penmanship!!

AJ, sufferin succotash, self-sabotage for the server; Stuart studies, and saucy sayins with the Shebeen!

Myself, music, musings and messages; mediating the mayhem of the mischievous while minding the menagerie!

Anna, braving book lists, Brokeback images, brainy exams, blogging branles, and baiting AJ!

AJ Fife said...

Always wondered how you spelleg Thuffering thucotash!!??? That was really funny btw!:D

Anna, the education system is a year behind the Scottish system - therefor what you were doing in 3rd year, was actually what we covered in 2nd year!!! Does that make sense....probably not!!:D

Peajay, have you heard of the Scottish calligrapher Tom Gourdie?

Melanie said...

Good morning! How's everyone!

Thanks AJ, had some fun with that last nite! I even wrote a limerick for a Scotsm article. Can't even say it was bevy induced, just 'in the mood' ;))

anna said...

Getaway.. AJ...

You'll be telling me next you were constructing Latin verbs in Primary 1... :)

Hi Melanie.... I laughed at the funny sayings.. :D

Enjoy the wedding ... Peajay.. .not too much champagne.... oh go on then :D

Speak to y'all soon :))

Peajay said...

Hi Melanie

Heh, heh, very funny. Posh penmanship all finished now so hope to be a bit more pro-active posting wise in next few days.

AJ, Tom Gourdie was the author of the first book on Calligraphy I received as a wee thing and along with the Shaeffer Calligraphy Fountain Pen started the whole kit and caboodle of my interest. He has much to answer to including my destitution. :D

Anna, alas no Champagne (Lent and designated driver). Sucks eh!! :(

Anonymous said...

AJ, Aberfeldy's song 'Summers gone' was picked up by Diet Coke...
"'Daft wee song' earns Scots band big bucks" (Scotsman article for Sat)

anna said...

Hi all

Peajay.... sorry forgot about Lent.... champagne is overrated anyway!! :D

Well, we had a bit of good luck this week!! :D

My mum has won a holiday for 2 in Penang, Malaysia and given it to us.... so we've paid a bit extra for KK to come with us and we're all flying off for 10 days at the end of June :DD :DD

I'm still pinching myself!! :)

Mum won it in Take a Break mag ... along with £500 which she is keeping. I was a bit sceptical at first but the holiday firm rang us yesterday... and we are booked on flights from Heathrow to Kuala Lumpar and then to Penang Island.

We're staying in the 5 star Shangri La Rasa Sayang resort in Penang..... and we've got a deluxe room. They're on the web if you want to have a look.

I'm still in shock!! Have to go and see KK's head (& my boss!!) on Mon to see if we can take him out of school for at least 8 days. :) Hard luck if he says No ... we're going anyway... it'll be educational for him as well. Far East culture, Buddist temples, jungle walks etc & a fab beach and swimming pool complex!! :))

I always thought it was 'other people' who won things!! :D

AJ Fife said...

How come you use ma blog tae talk about Brokenback Mountings!!??:))

Peajay, interestingly I have a couple of books by Gourdie - one is a Scottish traditional recipe book and also a book demonstrating the noble art of calligraphy! Mrs AJ's grandad knew the man personally too!! It's a sma' world!!:))

Melanie, it's great news for Aberfeldy!! I've followed them for about 3 years and have been to several concerts - always good value, and the frontman (Riley Briggs) is a really funny guy!!

So wotcha all up to this weekend?

We were meant to go to our friends farewell, but we just had a text asking as "what happened to you?"
Unbelievably, it was last night!!!!:((( Oooops big time!! Our friends leave for Australia this Wednesday!!!!:((

The good thing though - it was not my fault!!:D

AJ Fife said...

Congrats to Anna!!!:)))

Jammy, isnae the word:))

What a boost for you Anna and what a kind Mum you have!:)

Funny thing is - you've really cheerd me up too!!!:D

anna said...

"Funny thing is - you've really cheerd me up too"

Thanks AJ... what a nice thing to say!! :))

We're all going about grinning at each other :))

I've got to get my passport away because it runs out soon .... so I'll need to get that sorted asap!! :)

Its a long flight about 12 hours from LHR to Kuala Lumpar then about an hour from KL to Penang... but we're booked on Malaysia Airways ... and they look pretty good...

We're going to stay at LHR the night before ... save the hassle of trying to get round the M25 in the rush-hour!!

Can't wait!!

Have you ever been anywhere near there? When you went to Oz?

AJ Fife said...

Anna,

We stayed in Bangkok for 5 days, bloody hot and mosquitoes the size of Stuka dive bombers!!:)

Only kidding...it was really humid tho'!!!

Is Mr A a good traveller, doen't he hanker after a shot of a 747?

anna said...

Mr A is a very good traveller... he has been to a lot of places ... but not the Far East. :)

The humidity and heat is high all year round but the rainfall is less when we are going. The monsoon is in Sep, Oct and Nov.

We were a bit restricted on when we could go... not the English summer holidays probably because of the price hikes.

Really looking forward to it tho' ... if it gets too hot we'll just have to jump in one of the swimming pools!! :)

anna said...

This is the place:

Anonymous said...

Anna, as my kids would say.....Fantabulous!!!
(fantastic/fabulous) :DD
That is so exciting!!! I'll have a look tonite after work!! :)

AJ, it's great about Aberfeldy; in the movie, 'Man of the Year', they played a KT Tunstall song in one of the scenes! It's great when these hardworking 'unknown' artists get a break!! :) (sorry about you missing your friend's party...perhaps a dinner out/take in dinner with them instead, before they leave?)

Peajay, is it grain alcohol only...off for Lent...what about Mead, made from honey??! ;))

Well, have a great Sat will peek in here after work...I'm off Sun) :)

AJ Fife said...

Well I had a wee peek at the joint Anna's staying in....it's no bad.....thunderstorms tho'.....naw, it's no for me!!!!:))

It looks fantastic ya, jammy wee so and so!!!:DD

Melanie,Peajay,

I wonder if Anna's luck will rub off on us?

AJ Fife said...

Ref Aberfeldy:

It is great news and it just shows you how brilliant my taste actually is!!!:D

Melanie said...

Thunderstorms, high humidity, and in the 30's C/90's F....sounds like Florida!!! :D

Anna, sounds like you all are going to have a great time...what a fun cultural experience, too!!!

AJ, of course you have brilliant taste...esp in gal-pal internet friends!! ;D

Peajay said...

Congrats Anna, what excellent luck.
The wedding was an thoroughly enjoyable day and an excellent time was had by all. (Who needs alcohol to have fun). The only slight cloud on the day was that my bro' decided to bleach his hair blonde spiked with purple splodges, matching eyebrows and goatee! :( As he was after 'effect' he was really disappointed when everyone (including his Mother) said how great he looked, as opposed to actually pointing out what a total tw*t he was! There's one in every family!!

Melanie said...

Hello all! How's Sunday treatin you so far?

Peajay, do you have a photo of your brother's 'adventure'...isn't he a bit old for that??!!! ;) Glad you had a nice time at the wedding...well done deflating said person's hope to stir things up!!!:D

Peajay said...

Hi Melanie
Yes we have a photo as proof of just what a total tit he is and yes at 42 he's a little mature for playing silly games.

Melanie said...

Hi Peajay, well, if you can forward me the photo...I'd love to show my kids...it may frighten them or make them chuckle, but I'm sure I can work in a life learning lesson somewhere!!! ;D

Melanie said...

in recognition of those who will be traveling soon!!!

Melanie said...

okay one more, what else am I to do with no television or interest to pick up a book this eve, and the SgtMjr is gone again, till tomorrow!...anyway...YouTube can be rather addicting!! :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vaiQyVhXm4

Melanie said...

not to be the bearer of bad news...but there's trouble on the Scotsman again...it would seem not only are all the political comments erased, so are the rather harmless ones, like for Aberfeldy.

there are a few open, like the 'stargazers for the lunar eclipse' and 'William's Kate, on the best dressed list'

wonder what happened! :/

anna said...

Hi all,

Hope everyone's well..... ?

Glad you enjoyed the wedding Peajay... your brother sounds like a character!! :D

Good You Tube ... Melanie.. I know what you mean it is a bit addictive. :)

AJ.... Looks like an OK place ... for a freebie doesn't it?

Its going to cost us £667 to take KK with us.. so I think that's pretty good. I think if we'd had to pay for it all ... it would have been getting on for £3500 to £4000!! So quite a good result!! :)

Still, won't believe it till we're there!! Hope its not a shack on the beach :(

Anything interesting on the Scotsman?

AJ Fife said...

Anna,

I hope you realise that grinning from ear to ear gives you even more wrinkles!!:D

So....Anna, Mr A will have to cut out the mother-in-law jokes, until he gets back!!:))

Not much going on at the Scotsman today! Nothing's grabbed me yet!! ;)

What did your work colleagues say about the trip?

Melanie said...

Good morn!

Anna, glad you liked the vids...I left a funny one on your Leisure comments...for the sewing circle

how's everyone's Monday so far? :)

AJ Fife said...

Hi Melanie,

Our new video link is all very well, but I really think you should out some clothes on!!!

Anonymous said...

AJ, was 'out' some clothes, a Freudian slip, perhaps ;D

AJ Fife said...

Oops again!!! Nae freudian slip up Hen!!!:)) Ya cheeky wee devil!!

When you screw up a post like that, it loses its effect completely:( Have to try harder!

Talking Bear said...

Don't be too hard on yourself, it gave me a wee chuckle!! :D

Anonymous said...

oops, see...that was me, darn the stroke of the key, before you check it all for corrections

...my computer is ever misbehaving so I'm borrowing the other one

AJ Fife said...

What a fright Melanie!!!!

Thought Talking Bear had caught us!;D

Anonymous said...

oh, yes, and we were being so terrible, too!! ;))

Anonymous said...

busy Monday for all?

looks like the Scotsman threads are back up...was it a glitch or a warning?? I'm a bit skittish after the Grail banning, and the assignments of posting names...perhaps it was just an IT problem, afterall

AJ Fife said...

Melanie,

I reckon they get a wee fright sometimes when the posts get a bit too vitriolic!! I read that one board was out of control and became very racist! Maybe they pull the plug and pick up the pieces later!

Anonymous said...

True, the threads can get pretty 'violent' sounding

time for you to go...will it be a nap on the sofa, or do you fear the Mish destroying everything...or worse, daddy waking up with marking pen drawings all over his face!!! ;D

Melanie said...

and the challenge of the most witty YouTube film finding search and share begins.....
:DD

anna said...

Hi all,

Hope you're all OK?

Well, I'm over the euphoria of the holiday.. .and I'm planning my wardrobe... what to take?

Mr A might find its going to cost a 'little' more than he initially thought!! :D

I answered you on the Camilla blog ... AJ... I know what a worry all that's been for you.. :) I bet your nails are bitten down to the quick now aren't they?

Not a lot else happening on the Scotsman today. A 'what if' story about the oil tankers in the Forth and some other drivel.

Must be a quiet week for news ... :)

Melanie said...

good morn all!

domestic duties kept me away...will have a look at what you've been up to!

Melanie said...

'It would appear a touch of defenestration has been carried oot!!!'

excellent, AJ, perfect timing!!! :D

Melanie said...

Allright...I've left a few more video clips for AJ, and our sewing circle.....I'll repent tomorrow!! ;D

Hope you've all had a nice eve...I work Thurs/Fri, and we're taking the kids to Disneyland's California Adventure on Sunday (for their birthdays) so hopefully I'll have a chance to meet up with you all for a live chat here soon!!

Peajay said...

Hi Melanie
Sorry to have missed you, hope all ok.

Melanie said...

Hi Peajay, all's well...just the busyness of the day!! I did get a moment to vent my restless energies and find some entertainment for ya'll!!! :D

AJ Fife said...

You're some wumin Melanie - Youtube addict now!!:D

Peajay said...

AJ
I don't know where she gets the time, it must be down to wearing underpants on the outside like Superwumman!! ;)

Melanie said...

Ya'll jest know, I aim ta please!!!

I'm jest concerned for the well-bein of ma internet pals...I hope to keep a smile on their faces, tis all!! ;D

Will talk with ya'll later, have to get out the door soon for an errand!!

AJ Fife said...

Peajay,

Do you think the kids complain about their mother being on the computer all day and not playing in the yard, like she's meant to!!??:DD

Melanie said...

Still haven't left, waiting on my brother...

AJ, I'm trying to be an example to my children....researching invaluable information for cultural exchange....

not to mention writing poetry...a topic not every child wishes to undertake....an example of my work can be found here...."Canadian mountain town mulls bunny crackdown"

and, look at your use of the word defenestrate the other day...you took care and patience in applying that word...a wonderful example!! :D

AJ Fife said...

Quite so Melanie, the computer can be a powerful tool for the good, when in the right hands!!!;))

Luckily I'm several thousand miles away, therefore safe from being defenestrated by Melanie!!:))

anna said...

Whatcha thowing out the window AJ? Don't throw the baby out with the bath water!! :D

Fizrolli is on another planet to the rest of us... but the Libby the scooter man he's on about is ... another Scotsman article. I've put the link on the Nazi blog for you :)

Hope everyone's OK ... any interesting blogs anywhere?

Where is your poem, Melanie? Have you got a link?

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna,

I'm ok, I think the Melster and Peajay are just fine!! The three of you seem to be contaminating ma blog space!!:)) I'll get ma own back!!:D

Not much going on in the Scotsman, although Pud is back on form in the lead football story!!

anna said...

AJ of Fife threatens "I'll get ma own back!!:D"

Whatcha gonna do then AJ? Get us in the playground after school? :D

Ach away with you ... you're all wind and watter (Geordie for water not a spelling error) :D

Anyway... hopefully be able to catch up tomorrow ... as one has been a trifle busy for the last couple of days ..... not much time to blog :(

I see the lunatics have taken over the asylum on the Nazi board....

Had fajitas for dinner again.... we're all hooked on them now :))

Melanie said...

Hi Anna, it's the story about the Canadian bunnies, I was feeling creative! :D
http://news.scotsman.com/latest_odd.cfm?id=354662007

Will check out what you've been up to on the other articles!! Speak to ya later!

Anonymous said...

Melanie said...

Hey AJ, I explained the YouTube sharing saga to the SgtMjr...so when I returned home from work today, I found that he thought he'd side with you and share his twa pence!! :))

http://youtube.com/watch?v=LRiMZC3-QZM

AJ Fife said...

Good man, I need all the help I can get, especially when dealing with the Anna and Peajay combo!!!

Peajay said...

Every one is being so quiet at the moment (except maybe AJ on my blog). Must be a busy time for us all. I have a two day craft fair this weekend and my fourth cold of the year so I hope to be generous with that too.
Hope you all (including AJ ;)) have a good weekend and enjoy some quality leisure time.

Melanie said...

Quiet Saturday for reading...am just in from errands, then perhaps outside for a bit...hope all are enjoying their day!

Melanie said...

Well, I watched two films tonite... Beowolf and Borat...go figure the psychological choice of combined genre...;))
Beowolf was okay...a bit slow...with Borat, I'm not sure if I was laughing or 'crying' more!
Have you all seen either of these??

anna said...

Hi all,

Been a bit busy this week and weekend.... will try to get back to some 'serious' blogging next week!! :D

I've not seen either of those films, Melanie.. but will probably watch them when they come on the movie channel :)

Enjoy your Sunday ....... all :)

Peajay said...

That Anna, what she really means is that we've been abandoned this week in favour of sarong, bikini and sunscreen buying for the big trip! :D

Melanie said...

Good one Peajay!!

Fess up, Anna, have you been out shopping already in preparation?

Shrek, Lanna says hello!! ;D

AJ Fife said...

Hi guys,

Sorry for my inactivity on the posting front, but I've been busy with study and visitors!!

Lanna,

Shrekkie says hello!!;))

anna said...

Hi

Anything interesting happening on the Scotsman AJ?

It seems to have crashed at the moment ... or maybe its just my server. :(

Melanie/Peajay

I'll confess to 'a bit' of holiday shopping.... yes!! :) .. but I have been working a few more hours last week than normal... spending money!!!! :))

Melanie said...

good morning all!!

was hoping for an on-call, but alas no...am off to work :/ :)

Will speak to you tomorrow, and hopefully give you a grand recap of Disney's Calif Adventure park...1st time there, believe it or not!

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna and Mel,

This is my second attempt at replying to you today!!:( Funny IT goings on!!

Not been able to find anything to comment on today Anna! Just battling away with work IT probs!!:((

Take care Melanie and enjoy yer day!!

anna said...

I couldn't find anything to comment on either AJ... and I was busy in work this afternoon... so no chance for a quick look :(

Mind you, I don't think there is that much going on at the moment.. apart from the Trident thing... which I'm not sure about. Would a lot of jobs go if it left Faslane? Would that be a good or bad thing?
I'm not very knowledgeable about the politics of it ... I'm afraid. A lot of people are getting het up about it on that blog.

Funnily enough, in his mis-spent youth ... Mr A went on a few CND marches and rallies and used to go about with Ban the Bomb symbols on the back of his jacket - underneath his flowing locks. :D

Then..... to the eternal amazement of his parents and siblings ...... he joined the RAF and transformed overnight from a long-haired, peacenik, layabout to a short-haired, hardworking, ambitious young man in uniform. :)
His Mum still marvels at the change in him ..... even, now 25 years down the line!! :))

Catch up with you soon... Melanie :D

Anonymous said...

hello all!

had a busy day at work so I'm quite tuckered out! I'll be turning in early tonite! :)

the day to Calif Adventure is on hold at the moment pending Dr D's recovery from a fever, which she promptly informed me of her 'diagnosis' upon my arrival home from work!! :D (I'm hoping it was just too much sun and not enough water, yesterday...it's been warm here, and we were outside all day Sunday for garden work)

will speak with you all soon; I miss the craic, cyber-pals!! :D

AJ Fife said...

Hi Guys,

Hope you are all well!! Is it just me or is everyone being moderated on the Scotsman!!??

I've added a couple of saucy comments today, but nothing that would be taken off!! This could be the end!!:((

Melanie said...

Hi AJ

what's going on on the Scotsman? Where have you posted?

We're not going to Calif Adventure Dr D's fever is down but she has a cold; and my teen is swamped with schoolwork assignments from her teachers ( I don't assign her work) :((
We'll just plan another day!

anna said...

Which blogs were you on to get moderated .. AJ?

I only spotted you on the James Bond one.... your post hasn't been removed off there has it?

I saw your 'test post' on one of the blogs.

AJ Fife said...

Hi Melanie,

Pesky kids with their ailments and schoolwork!!!!:)) Stopping Mom from having fun!!:D

Seriously though, I hope Dr D is ok!:)

I've only posted a couple of comments - Aston Martin in the UK section, being the main one.

I think it's just me though, Pud is posting happily on the Rangers story - stirring people up into a frenzy with sectarian bile!!! And I get banned!!!!!
How's things with you?

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna,

Yes, I tried a few test posts, but they got stopped too!!! So they must have allowed the "test post" one, as they are hardly the most offensive two words in the world!!:D

What a buch of dumb schmucks!!!

AJ Fife said...

buch=bunch

Melanie said...

Hi Anna!

AJ, Scaramouche had a 'song' removed on the Fighting for all America' so I suppose you're not the only one

part of me is acutally glad we're not going...it's to be a warm day...and these auld bones are tired from 'running' for 12 hours yesterday

Ps what time is it there?

AJ Fife said...

twelve minutes past four in the afternoon, Melanie!!

I'm waiting for a visit by my new boss - some Sqn Ldr chappie, who doesn't know his *rse from his elbow!! Aint that right Anna!!:D

PS, hope he doesn't ask me what I do all day!!!:DD

Melanie said...

so now I'm only 7 hours behind, with some extra afternoon sunlight!

I was reading your friend's remarks on the Rangers article, then the remarks about the Irish rugby player and the choking accusations....much more interesting than politics...althought the borders article is disturbing

So, I wonder if the Scotsman is being picky as to people staying on topic?

anna said...

What borders article.... Melanie?

Hope Dr D is feeling better soon... :) and the rest of you don't get the lurgy... which is what usually happens here!!

AJ... you'll have to get a new e-mail... try hotmail... thats what I did last time... then just call yourself AJ of Fife or A.J... you probably know all this already.. but just in case :D

Have fun with the Squabbling Bleeder!!

AJ Fife said...

Yes Mel, I think it's maybe a shot across the bows!! I also had a prolonged conversation with Canky last week! Discussing my itinery for the trip to Normandy and lots of other stuff too!!!:) btw, did I tell you she lives in Rouen in Normandy!!!

I don't think we mentioned Charlotte Church(topic) once!!:DD

AJ Fife said...

Anna,

I tried to enter under my old hotmail address, but it was blocked, probably due to my old Corbett Hunckers escapades!!!:))

I'll just create a brand new address, if things don't improve!!!:D

Melanie said...

Hi Anna, it's this one
http://news.scotsman.com/international.cfm?id=392262007

talking about open borders to sway the vote...although the one poster..Prinz of Whales mentioned the Irish as being involved as well? I know the Hispanics here have quite a sway in politics.

AJ, what if you accidently bump into sweet HC??!!! Actually, she's probably a great person, just set in certain opinions! :)

AJ Fife said...

900 ya beauty

Melanie said...

gotcha AJ ;D

AJ Fife said...

Well we're not going to Rouen as time is short!!:)) She might be waiting to ambush me when we're looking at pill boxes and rusty old tanks!!!:)She knows I'll be wearing a kilt!! Ma pal's kilt doesn't fit him anymore:- middle-age spread!!:D

AJ Fife said...

Hey Mel, I'm the hunnerbagger, you just remember your place....young lady!!;D

Melanie said...

the ever fight against the middle age spread...glad to hear your kilt still fits, AJ! ;))

my wonderful mid-morn walks are now curtailed by the heat...I'll be up and out earlier from now on, but this will interfere will my morn blog time...I just don't do well in the heat :((

AJ, I'll try to behave, but you know how difficult that is for me! ;D x

anna said...

Getaway AJ.. .you just bought a bigger size kilt ... :D :D

AJ Fife said...

Cheeky young pups!!;D Well...at least Mel is!!:DD

Melanie said...

umm, it's the Lanna coming out in the cheekiness, but ah don't think yer complainin all that much, AJ!! ;))

What's all the scuttlebut on the rugby 'choking' incident, as well as the Irish not playing 'fairly'??

My Kiwi friend doesn't get the internat. sports channel, so I only get to see clips of the games on Youtube :(

AJ, your NY friend is something else, with his comments...so have you worked out getting back on the Scotsman...and, fess up, do you ever respond with an alias, other than Corbett?? Don't worry, I won't kiss and tell!! ;)

I'll probably be around for your late eve...unless the SgtMjr has me slaving away in the garden!! ;))

bye for now, enjoy your eve!! :))

anna said...

I think he meant the 'young' bit ... Melanie ... he was having a wee dig at me weren't you AJ?

Naughty... OK if you didn't get a bigger size kilt, AJ... did you put some lycra in yours? Or is it now stretched so tight that there are no pleats left in it?

:D :D

Melanie.... the rugby incident is because the Irish coach has claimed that one of his players the lovely Ronan O'Gara was nearly throttled by a Scottish player on Saturday. The Scottish team have denied it and the independent judge has found no evidence to back up the Irish claim. The Scots posters now want an apology.

The score was 19 - 18 to Ireland and there were a few 'handbags' on the pitch during the match.

Mind you, if that had been England who were involved we would never have heard the end of it!! True AJ?

England managed to beat France on Sunday .... much to our delight :)

Allez, allez .. les blancs :)

Anna, I thought the 'young' might have been a slight elbow jab in your direction...but I was going to leave that one alone!!! :))

Melanie said...

Good morning all!

it's quiet here....Anna's off shopping, Peajay is off creating, and poor AJ is having to break in a new boss...what did you say, Anna, a Squabbing Bleeder?! :))

Hope all is well and you're just all busy.

Sorry I missed last nite's Bond talk with HC and JG, that would've been fun to join in! ...but my garden is the better for it!! :)

anna said...

Hi all,

Busy today... college and some other stuff (not shopping, unfortunately!! :)

I've posted on the kid's lunch box blog today but that's all. Haven't seen you anywhere today AJ... still being moderated?

Or are you trying to get your kilt on/off ? :D

You're making me feel guilty about the garden .. Melanie.. the weather has been good here this week... very Spring-like :D.... so I will have to go out and sort my garden out. Tidy up some of the winter rubbish and clear my borders!!! :)

All the lawnmowers were out last weekend... the first sound of Spring round here is not the cuckoo but the hum of loads of lawnmowers and strimmers buzzing away!! :)

Melanie said...

Hi Anna,

the garden is a must for now, because it will be sizzling soon, and I'll have retreated permanently into the air conditioning unless it's very early morn, or late eve!!

AJ's been quiet, I saw him on the tourist attraction blog...and there was a post on the 'nurse pay raise' blog...
...curiously familiar...Andy - Fifer, fife...very good post, too...AJ was that you???

I posted on the 'children's birthday party' last nite...but really haven't had the interest at the moment...it's more fun when you lot are around!! :))

AJ Fife said...

Anna,

When we first posted together, your sense of humour was almost non-existant and after the kilt jibes, I see no progress has been made!!!:DD

The moment of truth is coming up, but we have a travelling rug in the back of the car if I've overly expanded, that should do the trick!!!:)

Melanie, thank goodness for your gentleness and understanding with these matters!!;))

btw, it wasn't me on the nurses blog - although I've had a 30 year interest in nurses, that wasn't the sort of post you associate with me!!;))

Hope you're all having a great day, I'm currently writing about David I's good points!!

Melanie said...

AJ, I'm a bit rusty on David I, did any of the 'nobility' have good points??! ;)

wow, I really thought that was you on the nurses blog...so, 30 years of liking white uniforms, not to mention those blue scrubs....but never mind, you need to concentrate on your paper!! ;))

funny about your kilt/rug comment...I do wish you the best of luck...I think you're going to have a great time, all in all!! :D

anna said...

AJ said:
"When we first posted together, your sense of humour was almost non-existant and after the kilt jibes, I see no progress has been made!!!:DD"

I'm cut to the quick... AJ :D

Did you manage to see the Scotland V Australia match last night in the World Cup... you needed your sense of humour for that!! :D Mind you, it was a bit like a mouse trying to compete with an elephant in a weight-lifting competition. :D

They didn't do too badly considering who they were playing :D

Btw: I managed to pick up a copy of Trainspotting for 70p in a charity shop today :) So I'll be able to peruse it at my leisure without having to get it back to the library.

I also found an Agatha Christie first edition with a good dust cover for 20p..... I couldn't believe it...so I handed the 90p over and hurried out of the shop!! I'll be going back to that shop again!! I'm going to be scouring EBay and the on-line 2nd hand booksellers for a valuation now!! :D

Are you posting anywhere today? Or have you not got round the moderators yet? :D

Hi Melanie,

Sorry, I didn't get back to you last night..... but ended up flopping in front of the goggle box watching Master and Commander again..... Great film... and Russell Crowe in the tight trousers .... mamma mia!! :D

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna,

I was trying to stay away from the cricket subject!! "Not too bad considering" - it is the second heaviest defeat in the history of the world cup!!!:DD

Don't recognise the bufty game as a sport anyway, and Scotland have no business being involved in such an feminine game!! This conversation takes us back....eh?

I currently championing Andy Murray on the boards, but got a ticking off from Charles Wingate on the recycling blog!!:DD

As you can see the nice people at the Scotsman lifted the ban!!

anna said...

Wonder what the ban was for then, if they lifted it so quickly? Maybe, it was a glich in the system

That Charles Wingate geezer is a bit of a pompous ass isn't he?

I was having a discussion with someone (from Arizona) yesterday who informed me that the Scots played more cricket per head than the English!!! :D

Its a bit like trying to compare birds and fish... one flys and the other one doesn't. I was going to reply that if Scotland play so much why aren't they better at it then.... but that would not have been cricket!!! :))

Liked to have seen you bat against McGrath and his 80mph bowls against Scotland yesterday .... and he's not even the fastest bowler.... Does this argument ring a bell ? :D HOWZAT?

Fair play to them tho' .... Oz is an excellent team so they weren't expected to win were they?

England play New Zealand in St Lucia... we've been there its a lovely place :D

anna said...

I've just checked out your recycling story .... TCW seems to be your pal today :)

Are you trying to get yourself banned again... by going completely off topic... promoting your Andy Murray fan-club? :)

AJ Fife said...

Just testing the resolve of the Scotsman, but if you notice I mention the article in my rant!!:)) Pretty clever...eh??:D

It's probably closer than you think the cricket ratio thing!! However it doesn't alter the fact that you still have over 10 times the amount of players that Scotland has,in any given sport!! Apart from Haggis throwing and curling!!:D

Scotland certainly weren't expecting to win, especially when the best bowler (Hamilton) got whacked for 24 in the last over!! He played a test for England once!!!

I remember the Glenn McGrath salvo!!! But I probably put you in your place with my rapier-like wit!!:))

Just finished my main essay....phew!! David I was quite a guy - introduced all things Norman into Scotland, including Robert the Bruce!!!

anna said...

The amount of interest that the Scots have in cricket is reflected in that cricket board.... most of the posters seem to be Australians! The ratio thing is a bit of a blind alley... there just isn't the same interest for cricket in Scotland as there is here... look at Yorkshire they're potty about it!! :)

The thing is people play it for fun here... village greens, playing field up the road, little kids.... so its a bit bonkers to say that they play more in Scotland ..... because I've never seen anyone, play in Scotland to be honest... and none of my relations have ever shown the slightest bit of interest in it.

However, I am encouraging KK to play ... because cricket is always played in warm weather or in hot countries (if you manage to turn professional... ambitious mum!).... not like the freezing cold terraces of football matches.. or rugby .....not really an option that one.. he might get hurt.. its a very rough sort of a game!! :D So its cricket for KK :)

Good you finished your David essay... do you ever do any work?

AJ Fife said...

I was just doing the Bibliography and a bit of tidying up!!:)) I have 32 computers at my immediate dispoal, so I'm able to commandeer a couple for my 'extra duties', such as the Andy Murray promotion on the Scotsman!!:D It's now starting to wear some people down btw!!:DD

How about you? Are you still in a student mode?

anna said...

Yeah ... did another mock yesterday... got the exam next week...

There are a lot of exams with this course, but the reason for that is because they've stretched them out over the year... to save us all becoming suicidal in May/June!!

Anyway... is David I an interesting guy or a bit boring?

Have to say he doesn't sound very exciting...

Not like the baddies.... of history!! :))

AJ Fife said...

He probably was a baddie, his brothers(3 of them) all died, and that enabled David to ascend to the throne!! So that's a wee bit dodgy for a start. He let all his Norman pals come and grab land at the native landowners expense!! So that's no very nice!! He had a lot of influence on English politics too as the English court treated him as one of their own!! At least, up until he did a spot of invading!!:DD

He was certainly interesting and was probably the main reason why Scotland was never consumed by England - he established Scotland as a nation!!

Well, you did ask!!:DD

anna said...

Sounds fascinating AJ..... pity, he's not still around you could have had him instead of Wee Eck!! :)

Think you're being unfair to the cricketers btw... taking it out on them.. just because Andy Murray didn't get a headline.

Once Wimbledon gets going.... it'll be Murray, Murray, Murray all day long!! :D

AJ Fife said...

I think I've slaughtered you in my latest response young Anna!!:D

Ach, it's a bit of harmless debate - beats all the sectarian nonsense on the fitba blogs!!:)

btw Andy Murray will get torn apart by the press, come Wimbledon - you know what they're like!!:(

AJ Fife said...

"Sounds Facinating"....how come I don't think you mean that!!:DD

anna said...

I don't agree with you about the slaughtering ... AJ!!

Just because those countries don't play ... so what?.... its their loss!!

The US play in the Football World Cup but most of the US aren't interested in football, rugby or cricket.

Russia and Germany ... well I suppose they're good at shot putting and gymnastics... oh and in Germany's case they're not bad at footie!! :)

You can't beat the thwack of leather against willow .... ah the sound of summer!! :)

AJ Fife said...

Slaughtered, Darlin', slaughtered!!:)

Got to post ma essay....see ya!!:)

anna said...

Slaughtered ... my ass!! :))

Neil's got you with his question if you get back over there today!! :D

Speak to you later .... sweetie!! :D

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna,

Just to give a heads up - check oot the blondie story in the UK section!!:))

Melanie said...

Good morning all!

Had to work yest, sorry I didn't get over here

AJ, my are you baiting Anna!? :)

AJ Fife said...

Hi Mel,

Yes, I'm feeling brave, after my success of yesterday!!;))

Melanie said...

AJ, when will you recieve word on your grade....it would be interesting to read, one of these days!! :)

I answered you on the blondie, and the wine bottle one :D

AJ Fife said...

Jist waiting for the wrath of Anna!!:))

Melanie said...

Anna, where are you, AJ needs a flogging (with a wet noodle, wouldn't want to break skin!)

Speaking of R Crowe, I watched "A Good Year" the other night...wonderful and heartwarming, and yes, a chick-flick!!

AJ Fife said...

Good actor old Russell. I liked Beautiful Mind!!!

Of course Gladiator was great too and Master and Commander. Anything with sword fencing is good!!:D

I watched Kingdom of Heaven the other week (I meant to discuss it with you),and I thought it was a great film - absolutely brilliant sets. The King wearing the mask was a sensational look!! Must get an invite to one of those parties - "Eyes Wide Shut" style!!!:D

Melanie said...

AJ, I never saw Eyes...but I've heard about it!!! Naughty, lad!!!

Kingdom of Heaven is one of my favorites: the set, story, music, sword fighting, beautiful galloping horses, sexy men in chain mail and tights... :D

anna said...

AJ... I've slaughtered you!! :D

What success yesterday.... you were clutching at straws ... with your arguments about countries that play cricket .... and you know it!! :))

Have to say I was really surprised, myself, when I saw Ireland playing last night... they put up a good showing against Zimbabwee!! :D

Melanie... I don't think our AJ should be discussing hair do you? Too much ammunition for me!! :D

Melanie said...

Anna is locked and loaded!!!!

.....AJ, best grab yer keyboard and start runnin!!!!! :DD

AJ Fife said...

Melanie,

Jist did the first 100 mtrs in 35 seconds...phew!!!:D

Hi Anna!!;)

Melanie said...

:DD

am out the door for a fit and trim walk, fighting the middle age blues...etc etc :))

Might be back, AJ, before your exit stage right!! ;)

Anna, try to go easy on the lad, won't you!! ;)

anna said...

That's our AJ ... hair today gone tomorrow!!! :D

All right .... chuck? Are you hiding behind your barricades?

I've been having a look at that RBS boss backing SNP board... there's some heavyweights on there... Duncan is cut and pasting yards of SNP blurb ... does he work for them ... do you think.. as a mascot or something? :D

You 2 posted anywhere else today?

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna - he says peeking from behind his desk,

I've posted on the lesser of the two Blair/RBS chairman stories, Andy Murray, Fife Airport, women power dressing, and a few more!!!:)

Have you joined the debate on the Blair story? I'll have a wee look!!

anna said...

I can't get interested in the Blair story!!

I have to be honest ... I've never voted for Labour ..... but I did used to quite like Tony .... but I now think he's a charlatan.

I even believed the story about WMD's ... yes the propoganda got to me... or maybe it was the military training... but I was very peed off when I found out that we'd been lied to!! :(

So Tony will not get any back-up from me!!

The main reasons for not voting Labour before are .... the military background and the fact that Labour never show their face round here.... I don't even know who the Labour candidate was... he never bothered to canvass round here at all... neither did the Lib/Dem or anyone else .... its a Tory stronghold... but if the other parties can't be bothered to canvass what do they expect?

Ooh got that off my chest anyway!!

I've had 3 glasses of red wine already and its only 6.30pm. :D

anna said...

We're off to the East of England Shire Horse show tomorrow .... Melanie.... I think you'd really enjoy it!!

Lots of lovely horses to look at, Shires, Clydesdales, Suffolk Punches all the other heavy horse breeds and dressage and showjumping ..... and some very good stalls as well!! :D

Shame that Peajay won't be there, selling her jewellery, but maybe next year!! :D Or you could try for the big East Of England show Peajay.... or are the pitches a bit pricy? :(

Melanie said...

Anna! three glasses of wine, and not a typo to be found...I'm impressed!! :D

the horse show sounds wonderful!! We like the Shires and the Percherons...what fun, maybe you can post some photos!!! :)

anna said...

Good idea ... Melanie ... I could do with some new pics on my blog!! :DD

A nice horsy :D

I'll try and oblige :))

I can't find a lot to comment on at the Scotsman... the politics blogs are just the usual old blah... and some of the others are a bit boring :(

Melanie said...

Anna, I haven't commented much, only on the 'power dress' and the 'blondie' one

So, are you wearing green or orange tomorrow?! (just kidding) :D Everyone turns Shamrock here pretty much...we don't get the sectarian influence

I have my Guinness and Bass to make my Black&tans...we're heading over to a friend's house tonite and then maybe again tomorrow for a bit of a party...any excuse, right?!!! :DD

anna said...

We don't get the sectarian influence here, either Melanie.... but no-one in Cambridgeshire does St Patrick day either.

There may be a mention of it in the national press but that will be it. Its completely alien to the culture here... and I don't mean that in a nasty way. The English barely celebrate their own patron saint they certainly aren't interested in anyone elses.

Altho' this is a very small island (smaller than Calif?) its surprising how many people don't travel around it. A lot of people will never have visited Ireland, Scotland or Wales and consider them to be foreign countries..... but they have probably been to Spain, the Canaries and the Greek Islands.

I've said it before but when it all boils down to it the English are every bit as parochial as the Scots......... maybe more so in some places. :(

Maybe, Americans celebrate it more because they are more interested in their roots in the old country... do you think that is true?

anna said...

Most English people would never understand the orange and green thing either.

They really wouldn't know what you are talking about. There are no orange marches in this part of the world and it is not known about....or only as something that causes trouble in Northern Ireland!

The thing is the Battle of the Boyne happened in Ireland .... and did not impact on England itself.

I'm not sure if I'm putting this very well but the only parts of England where the orange/green thing would be known about would be those places where the Irish settled .... i.e. Liverpool and parts of Manchester and maybe Leeds in Yorkshire... but I don't think they have orange marches in any of those cities.

Melanie said...

Anna, you've explained clearly...my Irish friend who spent much of his life in London said, that in Galway, they usually just went to mass and had a quiet get together with fam etc

Here, I think the festiveness was formed from nostalgia and thoughts of the homeland... With songs like "when Irish eyes are smiling" etc

People here also use Cindo de Mayo (5th of May) as an excuse for a party...it's a Mexican holiday

...of course the Americans take it to the extreme, like with St Paddy's and green beer, etc (I'm not that extreme, though!) :))

Peajay said...

Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh!
St Patrick's Day blessings on you.

Hope all are well, and usual apologies for lack of participation. I have gained an outlet who will sell (sale or return) my jewellery but I have to merchandise the display cabinet etc so have had a manic week.

Melanie said...

... had a nice evening with Mr Bond tonite...ooh la la!! Well, it's off to ma scratcher with sweet dreams of Casino Royale, blondes on the shore, and shaken not stirred!! :D

Enjoy your Monday...will catch up with ya later!! :))

Peajay, thanks for the St Paddy's greeting...had a quiet day/eve with the fam instead of the party...had to work today, and didn't want a green beer heavy head!!! ;)) Congrats on the outlet!

AJ Fife said...

Anna,

"Scottish friend" - I'm touched :)

How was mother's day for you?

Peajay,

Sounds like things are moving in the right direction for you - well done and good luck!!:)

Melanie,

Did Mr Bond do the trick for you? How was Mothers Day for you? Do you do Mother's day in the States? Mind you, you guys probably invented it!!:D

anna said...

Hi all

Had a good weekend ... Sat at the Shire Horse show... very nice day out .. we all enjoyed ourselves. Managed to get some nice pics ... so will post them on my blog soon. :D

The new Bond ... Melanie... I've not seen it yet.. so I'm not sure if I fancy Daniel Craig or not... I don't normally go for blond men.. but I think, once I've seen the film, I might make an exception in his case!! :))

Congrats on your new outlet Peajay.. hope its a success for you :)

AJ.... did you notice I gave you the credit for the fajitas on the food blog ? :D

They are rapidly becoming a staple in this house... but they are very tasty and so quick :)

Had to sort a couple of mad people out on the Bannockburn blog yesterday.. the lets blame everything on the English brigade.... the sad muppets that they are, eulogising over a 700 year old battle and then thinking its all a plot by the English today to destroy 'their heritage'.... like we could be bothered!! :D

What you been up to?

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna,

My one and only post at the weekend, was on that thread - the Gallipoli example!!

Sometimes it's embarrassing, the comments board, some of the people are serious about the conspiracy theories!!:(

anna said...

Yes, I read your comment about the Gallipoli battlefield... I never knew that the Turks had decreed it would be kept as a perpetual memorial. Its good to know that they have tho' :))

The problem with England and Scotland tho' is that there were so many battles fought here .. Normans, Scottish Wars, War of the Roses, English Civil War... that just about everywhere is an old battlefield. I suppose they can only really look after the 'important' ones.

Naseby is very close to where Mr A's family live .. so we know all about the protests that went on when they decided to put the A14 thro' the battlefield - we signed the petitions but didn't tie ourselves to a tree or anything :D

Mainly due to the hositility it caused, locally, the road was moved further over so that it only goes over a corner of the field .. I always wondered if that was the original plan and they never had any intention of cutting the battlefield in half.... but just did a 'worst-case scenario' to get the lesser of 2 evils through!

They do civil war reconstructions there and its a 'nice little earner' for local tourism... another reason why they didn't want it spoiled.

AJ Fife said...

Anna,

Culloden was disected for a long time by the main trunk road!!! So this isn't a new phenonomena!! Interesting, your point about the worst case scenario!! I really could believe that type of skullduggery was used!!:(

Gallipoli is an amazing place, the Turks take the same amount of care over the Expeditionary Force areas as their own. Mustapha Kemal (Ataturk), sanctioned this when he was leader of the country!! Amazing guy, old Mustapha!!

We could really learn a lot from people like him!

Melanie said...

good afternoon for you all!!!

and Happy Mother's Day, Anna! Ours isn't until mid-May...and I'm not sure who invented it...probably a Scot transplanted over here!! ;))

Just in from a walk so I haven't read anything...are you blogging anywhere interesting, at the moment?!

AJ Fife said...

Hi Melanie,

Long time no post!!:))

Nothing doing on the Scotsman today, posted on the UK food story, but nothing exciting!!

My opportunities were minimal at the weekend - Mish Mash on Saturday and Mrs AJ + the Dragon in Knickers(mother-in-law) on Sunday!!!:D However, everything went well and everyone is happy!!!:))

How about you?

AJ Fife said...

btw, that should've read - "opportunities to post were minimal"!!!:D

Melanie said...

Hi AJ,

I haven't posted anywhere, the articles seem tiresome with all the negative this or that...I liked your and Anna's posts on the food blog...made me think of what to cook for dinner! :))

Sat was 'hanging out' with the fam, went for a horse ride with the teen...Sun was a work day

your dragon mum sounds like a terror!! Is she very 'authoritive'?!! ;))

Melanie said...

I'm glad not All your opportunities were minimal, AJ! ;)

AJ Fife said...

My, you're a saucy wee minx this morning Mel!!!:D

Melanie said...

ah cannae help it, AJ!! :DD

AJ, where was the Gallipoli article?

AJ Fife said...

There wasn't a Gallipoli article Melanie. It was a story about a housing development being built on part of the Bannockburn battlefield. I was drawing a comparison with Gallipoli and the Turkish view of their own heritage. Just stating that we could learn something from them!!

Melanie said...

okay, that makes sense...yes, I read your comment in that article

It's hard to read thru to the facts with some of these articles...

there was a comment by Heather fae the hills re the Earl of Mansfield, and him not lettin her heat her house with a fireplace, yet her electricity was cut off,so she can't have heat at all?....do not tenants have certain rights???

AJ Fife said...

Methinks Heather "overgilds the lilly"!!! She lays it on pretty think sometimes -possibly in a humerous way - and if half the stuff was true, the Earl would've been locked up long ago!!!:)

I've offered my support in the past to Heather!!

Here is what I understand her current situation to be:-

1. Roof of her house has massive holes in it! Walls are perilously close to collapse!!
2. She is currently 8 mth pregmant and has three other children!
3. She is 47 years of age!
4. No money
5. No electricity
6 Earl of Mansfield is conducting the ancient tradition of kicking serfdom when it's doon!!

Melanie said...

I wondered at her age, and pregnant, but it's been know to happen!
and....I thought, by her comments, the Lairds were let loose again to see to the detriment of their cannon fodder tenants, at will!! ;)) ...although I do know, Landlords can be underhanded with things

AJ Fife said...

Oops, jist noticed 'pregmamt'!!!:))

People can have a rough ride, but remember she has a computer and is on the Scotsman all day - she claims to be a tennant farmer!!! I hope she is who she says she is, but I have my doubts!! I wonder if Anna has noticed that!

Melanie said...

Anna, I prefer brunettes over blondes...but you do have to appreciate Daniel Craig's effort at physical fitness; I surely was!!! :D

Of course, I kept elbowing the SgtMjr as he was making comments over the brunettes in the film!! :D

Melanie said...

It's so hard to really know if people are who they say they are...you just have to watch their consistency and content, I suppose...makes it challenging...to really trust what is being said

anna said...

Melanie.... I've just remembered that I do like some blond men... Brad Pitt and the young Robert Redford ... (the Great Gatsby... yum, yum)

Heather .. 47 ... barefoot and pregnant... she's funny and quite witty sometimes... but I think she's over-egging the pudding occasionally. The Earl of wotsit would never get away with all that.... she does have some rights if she's one of his tenants as she claims.

anna said...

I was spoilt yesterday, Melanie... KK made me 3 cards, a little plate thing that he'd painted at Cubs and a fridge magnet in the shape of a butterfly :)

I also got breakfast in bed .. soft boiled egg and toast soldiers :) KK looked so pleased with himself when he brought it all in.... Mr A had to help him a bit ... :)

Melanie said...

Hi guys, have to step out a moment for some kid dental appts....will be on later for your eve, if you're around!! bye for now! :)

Melanie said...

Alas, crickets abound....understandably so 'cause we can't always be out on the playground!! :D

Hope yer all surviving the busyness...stay warm!! and will speak with ya later!!

anna said...

Hi AJ ... saw you keeping your stats on the SNP blog. There are a lot of people in favour of Scottish independence at this site as well:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?xml=/opinion/2007/03/20/do2001.xml

Looks like everyone's a winner!! :D

AJ Fife said...

Hi Anna and Melanie,

Didn't realise you liked cricket Melanie!!:))

Anna, I had a look at the comments there earlier!! Got to say the posters on the Telegraph make us look like a bunch of nambie pambies! :) Do you think the resentment stems from the feeling of being rejected!! Wee Eck's piece was pretty moderate and reasoned, also it was in no way offensive!!

Interesting tho'!!

btw, I was hoping someone would have checked the stats, so I could have admitted to making them up...just like a proper politician!! :D

anna said...

I think the resentment comes from being ruled by the Scottish Raj ... to be honest AJ. I've heard more moans about it lately.... especially since the Sun and other tabloids ran with the headlines last week about cancer drugs that are available in Scotland but not in England.... that even raised a few hackles in the Sunday Times.

The thing is people here see Scottish Labour as bending over backwards to court the Scottish voter to the detriment of England. This, in my opinion, was bound to happen after devolution... when the English were ignored.

I think we're a fairly tolerant lot but ... the worm will turn!! :D The bit that Alex wrote about England being able to go it alone and the oil thing seems to have got up people's noses... which I think he intended to do.

It can't have been comfortable reading for a Scotsperson... especially a Unionist .. but then, some of the posters on the Scotsman can get a bit rabid.

Anyway, come what may..... I'll still blog with you!! :D

anna said...

I wouldn't trust the stats on the Scotsman board ... I bet there is a lot of people making up names and doubling up on there!! :D

Melanie said...

as I posted on the couch potato blog....there are three kinds of lies...

black ones, white ones, and statistics!! :)

AJ Fife said...

I'll always be a blogger with Joanna Cambs.!:) maybe the State won't allow cross-blogging!!!???:D

Funny you should say that, I've often thought the Scotsman staff make up a lot of the postings - you get a lot of one-off posts!! Would you go through the nausea of registering for a one word comment and a funny name!!?? I reckon the staff can log on as whoever and whenever they like!!

AJ Fife said...

Melanie,

I meant to ask you - is Indian Wells near you?

Melanie said...

Indian Wells is about 2hours south-east of here, near Palm Springs...why? thinking of taking a holiday!! ;)

You wonder what shenanigans the Sc. staff can get up to....just to mess with people, or alter/affect thread points of view/opinion...kind of like one big psychological experiment on swaying public thoughts, etc....ooh, do I sound like a conspir. theorist?? ;)

AJ Fife said...

Indian Wells is where Andy Murray was playing tennis last week. I knew it was South CA and in the desert. 2hrs isn't far in Californian terms!!!

Melanie said...

2 hours is sometimes what some people here commute to work, daily!

The SgtMjr was down in the lower part of LA County one work day; with traffic, it took him 4hrs to get home :(

Are you hinting I should have been there to cheer him on!!! ;)

anna said...

I've put 2 posts on the Telegraph blog.... as Anna... but I notice there is another Anna on there (how dare she!!).

The usurper's posts is about the Queen and other royals post the bust-up of the Union!

Mine are quoting the poem by G K Chesterton "we are the English people and we have not spoken yet"..... just to rally the troops :D

And also one to a K McLaughlin in response to his indignant post about all the anti-Scottish bile...I pointed him in the direction of the Scotsman for some anti-English bile :D !!

There are a lot of people getting worked up on both websites!! Are the Scotsman and the Telegraph owned by the same multi-media corporation?

Why do people trust politicians so much? I don't trust any of them.. they're all looking out for No1!! Wonder how much Alex S. got paid for his article in the Torygraph!!
:(

Melanie said...

Anna, right about politicians...
'how do you know a politican's lying...they open their mouth'!!! :)

Haven't looked at anything political...have had my fill of it at the moment...I understand the furvor on your end, though, with the May elections nearing

Are you working on those horse photos for us yet??! ;)

I'm still waiting for photos of AJ doing the doggy doo dodge dance in Milan!!! :D

anna said...

Horse photos on my blog now ..... Melanie:D

The May elections are only taking place in Scotland.. so it will be interesting to see what happens. :)

Peajay said...

Hi all, nearly finished with the outlet prep so thought I'd see how ya'll are. Thanks for all your best wishes.
Loved the photo's Anna.
Melanie, it has been known to take 4 hours to drive the twenty miles home from London, traffic! Don't ya love it!!

Melanie said...

Hi Peajay,
I figured you would have similiar traffic, but that's pretty bad!!!

I don't know what you mean AJ.... do you think I resemble that remark? :D

Yet another exam this morning... what a panic this one was... I hadn't even started on the 4th question when she said 15 mins left!! :(

So ... I really had to rush it ... the keyboard was on fire... and I never got to check it .. so I'm not feeling too happy about it! :(

Still, the rest of it seemed OK ... but I think I might have waffled on a bit at one point... we'll see what happens.

Anything good on the Scotsman .... has war been declared between Scotland and England yet? :D

I see Brown's going to tax 4x4's .... a friend of mine at college is more than a bit upset... she was fuming!! Mind you, I don't really know why she needs it ..... but I just nodded sympathetically and agreed that it was awful of Gordie to pick on the 'Chelsea Tractors'. :)

I've been 'active on the political side of things - I keep asking AM if he is really Andrew Marr, y'know the BBC reporter wi the big lugs!!!:))

Aye the 4x4 issue - I reckon 75% of those things are unecessary in this country!! Wotcha think?

I saw you... has he replied yet? I was wondering the other day if AM was a she...

What's happened to JG .. haven't seen her on the boards for a while ... I hope she's not been banned.

I think Duncan might have been banned because he keeps spamming the boards with SNP manifesto.... like anyone is going to sit and read it!! :D

I agree with you about the 4x4's. You see loads on the 'school run' round here and they're not people from farms or anything... they have them as status symbols.

Plus most of the people that drive them think they own the road and never give way.... Tax 'em!!! :D

Unfortunatly, the people that do need them .. like farmers will have to pay the tax as well......... but then, I've never seen a farmer on a bike and the ones round here seem to be fairly loaded.. so tough luck!

Hello all!

AJ, I'm surprised you didn't leave a horsey comment as well! ;)

Anna, you seem the type that can keep it together under pressure...I wouldn't be surprised if the last of your essay was just as excellent!!

I just used my 4x4 option last nite...it was raining and I had to back the truck up a steep hill...but I agree, mothers don't need 4x4s to take kiddies to school and football matches!!

...the farmers should be given an exemption...but that would mean less gov funds for wasteful spending!! ;))

have had/continue to have a busy morn...will have to catch up with you all later!!!

Hi Melanie,

Didn't want to start talking dirrty!!!:))I leave the roughtalk to you girls, you're much better at it!!;))

The 4x4's - quite right tax em!!!:D The farmers run all their vehicles on the cheap 'pink' diesel - so they're not complainin'
Tory voters anyway!!:D

Spoke with JG on the English accent blog last night - just briefly though! She's a old-age student, like us Anna! :DD
